This is how Michael became a werewolf learnt that not all people are so judgmental and fearful of his gifts. He make s a new friend how gives him and early birthday present.

Hope it isn't to awful!! And all comments and ANY advice would be greatly received (might not comment straight back RL is a little crazy at the moment but i will try my best!)

Thank you so much for looking anyway!!!!

The last of Both - Once bitten forever changed part 1

It had been several weeks since I witnessed the death of my mother and father. I had managed to find a safe place to set up a small camp by the edge of a large river. I was extremely grateful that I had learned how to survive from my mother and father, from hunting to being able to make my own shelter and fire and for the first time I felt that I was safe.

It was late in the morning and I was practising some of my water techniques by the edge of the river, it had be raining for a couple of days and the river was close to bursting its banks, as I tried to concentrate on moving the water and freezing it, my concentration was broken when I heard screams and lots of splashing coming from the river.

I saw a young female wolf thrashing around in the water in sheer terror. I was frozen in place watching the poor girl trying to stay above the water not knowing what to do. It wasn't until I saw her disappear under the water that I went to move.

I jumped from the river bank onto the water freezing it with each step giving me enough buoyancy to push off from like stepping stones. I ran freezing more water with each step trying to see if the girl had come back up. Seeing that she hadn't I dived into the icy cold water were she went under.

I opened my eyes to look for her but the shear cold stung too much for me to see properly, I swam back to the surface to see if I could find her, the fierce current was strong as it carried me along. I heard coughing and splashing to my right, I quickly turned to see her slip below the water again.

I dived and forced my eyes open into the stinging swirling gloom. I swam down to catch her arms in my hands and kicked the water as hard as I could to reach the surface, I pulled her head out of the water and swam back to the river bank using all the power I had to pull and push the water around us to stop us from being dragged under and away.

I pulled her out of the water, laid her on her back and placed both hands above her chest. Concentrating on the water in her lungs I pulled the water out of her through her mouth with a simple twist and flick of my hands.

I moved my ear to her mouth to see if she was breathing, I heard nothing. Moving my mouth to come to hers and gave her CPR, I found it hard to keep the air from escaping from her muzzle. It took one or two tries but she started to cough and splutter.

Her eyes shoot open, she tried to get up but I stopped her by putting my hands on her shoulders, she was starting to panic and trying get free but I kept hold of her because I didn't want her hurting herself further. I suddenly felt her sharp teeth wrap around my right forearm and sinking deep into my flesh.

I winced at the pain but did not let go of her, she released her grip on my arm seeing that I didn't let go of her.

"Ssssshhhhh ssssshhhhh I don't want to hurt you! It's okay just calm down" I said as I looked into her golden brown eyes with all honesty.

Her breathing slowed and she stopped moving as she looked into my eyes. I could see her eye lids trying to shut as the stress and the events of what had just happened caught up with her and forced her into sleep.

Fortunately we were not far from my camp, I moved my hands over her body and pulled the water from out of her coat and cloths, I then did the same with my sodden clothes. I tore off a strip of my shirt and tightly wrapped it around the bite and carried her to my camp.

I laid her on my bed of moss and fern leaves, then covered her with a large dire pelt to keep her warm. She wore a light blue loin cloth and a blue and green tabard. She was so very beautiful with her soft grey fur with a rich amber tinge to the ends of each hair. Her ears where a bit big for her head but I guessed that she would grow into them but it did make her all the more cuter.

I must have been staring at her a long time because before I realized it the fire had started to die down. I shook my head to get myself to concentrate on sorting out the food and camp. Busying myself while she slept with tidying, feeding the fire and cooking some rabbits that I had manage to get that morning. I would check every now and then to see if she was ok.

I was in middle of cooking the rabbits on a spit over the fire when she started to move and groan.

"Hello, how are you felling?" I asked concernedly.

Her eyes shot open upon hearing my voice and sat up quickly "Who are you and what do you want" she asked with a scared look on her face and tone to her young voice.

"My name is Michael. I saved you from the river and I was just wondered if you're ok" I said with a slight smile on my face.

She looked at me with great suspicion as she looked me over with her brilliant golden- brown eyes, and said nothing as she did so.

"Would you like something to eat or drink" I asked in a soft caring voice. She slowly gave me a light nod of her head but her eyes never left mine.

I slowly got to my feet and walked to the fire, which was between us, and took one of the rabbits that had be roasting over the small fire and put it onto a large leaf to act as plate and handed it to her but she wouldn't take it. So I moved around the fire slowly and put it on the end of the moss bed and went back to where I was sitting earlier.

She watched me the whole time. She looked at the roasted rabbit with hunger but she did not take it.

"Don't worry I haven't done anything to it apart from skin, gut and cook it. I promise! Would you like a drink of water?"

She looked at me and then the rabbit, slowly her hunger won over her fears and slowly took the rabbit and took a good smell and a small test bite to make sure that it was ok to eat. It brought a smile to my face when she started to eat the rabbit with great care. She started to eat more when nothing happened as she grew in confidence and started to eat her food with hunger.

She had finished the rabbit in record time and looked back to me with a thankful and pleased look but she was still very weary.

"Would you like some water?"

"Yes please" she said in a shy tone and with a small nod.

I picked up a small blow made of ice, which I had made to keep some water in for a short time and handed to her, when she held it she gave me a funny look as if saying "what the hell is this?", she gave it a good look and then took a small sip as a test and then took a large drink as nothing was happening that shouldn't, then give is back to me.

When I had put the bowl down in its place and turned around to sit when she asked a question that I didn't expect but most off all didn't know the answer to. "Why did you save me and why are you being so nice to me?" she asked with a confused but thankful voice.

It took me a little while to think of a good answer "You looked like you needed some help and ............. it's nice to be nice, if you know what I mean" I said with a slight laugh scratching the back of my head.

"But why? Nobody outside my home is nice to me or others like me."

"What do mean nobody, why are they not nice to you?"

"I think it's because they don't understand me or know me so they fear or hate me." What she said reminded me the way that others had looked at me, mum and dad when we tried to help them.

"I'm sorry, I know what you mean if it helps."

"What do you mean?"

"Well as far as I know there are not many people like me and I am in a way different from others like me"

"Really, I've never seen anything like you before, what are you? And what do you mean that your different from others like you?" she had a cute and confused look across her sweet face.

I laughed lightly "I'm a human and I'm different in that I can do things that others can't, if you know what I mean" I replied.

"Oh ........... Ok"

"So what's your name and how did you get into trouble in the river" I asked trying to move the subject away from me.

"My name is Tanya, I was standing by the river bank watching the water when the bank gave way and I fell in ...... OH NO! They will be worried sick about me" she tried getting up quickly but yelped and fell back down to the bed as she held her left ankle in her hands.

I quickly rushed over to her "what's the matter, what hurts?"

"My ankle" she replied with a whimper.

I moved down to her ankle and gave it a look over "ok it just a sprain you haven't broken anything, this might tingle but don't worry I don't want to hurt you ok?"

I concentrated on the water around me and bringing it to my hands, water arose from the wet earth, off the leaves from the surrounding plants and gathered around my hands, when I had enough I placed my hands either side of her ankle and concentrated on moving the water and releasing my energy around the injured area and healing the damaged tissues.

It took a minute or two before I was satisfied that I had done the job. I pulled the water away from her ankle and flicked it away. I looked up into her face and was caught in her golden brown eyes as she looked at me with a confused but amazed expression on her young beautiful face.

"How did you do that" she asked still looking into my eyes and lightly flexing her leg and foot.

I was lost in her eyes not doing anything but just looking into those wondrous eyes, "I ....I.... just concentrate on the water and move it about that's all" I managed to blurt out while still looking into her eyes.

"Oh no the fire" she said snapping out of my daze and quickly looking to the fire.

"Damn it!" I must have flicked the water onto the fire when I had finished healing her ankle. I quickly moved over to the fire so see if it could be saved, but the wood was soaked and out.

I quickly started looking for dry wood and tinder to make a new fire with but it was all wet from the recent rains, I tried to pull as much water as possible out of the wood but I needed them bone dry but they were just to damp.

I looked up at the sky, it would be dark and cold soon "Damn it" I cursed as I ran my hand through my hair.

"Is there any way that you can make a fire without friction?" she asked.

This got me thinking about what my mum and dad said, that I could use the other elements even fire. I had been thinking about seeing if could but never had the opportunity to, but I guess I could give it a go.

"There might be but I don't know if I can, but I can try" I said while still thinking hard.

"How, and what do mean if you can?" she asked with a bewildered tone.

"You'll see" is all I said as I stretched out my right arm and facing my palm up to the darkening sky.

I concentrated on the energy around my hand and instead of the cool fluidity of water I thought of the heat and the glow of fire, forcing the energy to compress and heat up. I could feel my hand and arm starting to cramp up but I concentrated on the heat and the energy of fire.

I looked at my hand willing it to show any signs of fire. The pain in my arm was starting to get worse as the bite I had received was starting to bleed slightly. I could see something like sparks forming over my hand, so I concentrated harder on the heat and the ferocity of fire.

I jumped and shrieked a little as a small ball of fire erupted into the air above my hand. I stared at the small ball fire with great shock and relief, as I looked at the ball of fire with great interest and excitement it grew larger and larger, I started to panic as I could feel the heat and flames getting out of control but all I could do was look at the burning ball as it got bigger.

"Calm down and slow your breathing!" was all that Tanya said as she looked at me with a slight hint of fear.

"What......how.........what" was all I could say as I look from the raging ball of flames to her and back.

"Take deep slow breaths and calm down. Fire techniques are connected to your emotions and breathing" was her reply as she moved away a little.

I looked at the burning mass and concentrated on breathing and trying to calm down, it took a bit of effort, but as I managed to take deep calming breaths I could see the ball of fire getting smaller to a more manageable size and heat.

As I took each breath I could see the fire pulse with each breath, I must have been watching the fire a while, for Tanya had moved to the old fire, she picked up some of the damp wood and held one end in the ball of fire, it took a bit longer than normal but the wood started to burn, she put it in the fire pit and put some more wood on it to keep it going.

"Ok now hold your breath and close you hand" she stated in a nice soft, soothing tone.

I held my breath and closed my hand watching the ball of fire flicker and disappear. I looked at the space above my hand with disbelief and relief then looked up at Tanya with a look of utter confusion.

"How ........how do you know that" I asked as a looked at her in a new light.

"My father is a fire elemental, that's how I knew what to do" she said. She blushed a little from what I could see under her fur because I just stared at her a little dumb struck.

"Wow .............um thank you that was just ....well....different for me if you know what I mean. Well I guess you know what I mean when I said that I'm different from others like me" I said looking very embarrassed.

"Yes I guess I do" she gave a small laugh which helped to defuse the awkwardness of the moment.

"Would you be able to help me get some water from the river" I asked trying to change the subject.

"Yeah sure but don't we need something to carry the water in?"

"I can make some bowls out of ice when we get there" I replied.

We set off to the river in silence as I didn't want to make things awkward again. When we got to the river I made two good sized bowls and filled them with water using water techniques. Tanya just watched me with great interest, which brought a smile to my face.

We both picked up a bowl and walked back the camp in silences again, we placed the bowls down far enough away from fire so they wouldn't melt. The fire was going well now and I put some more wood on to keep it happy. I sat down on the bed and was shocked to find Tanya sit right next me.

"So what do we do now" she asked. I could tell she was a little board.

"Well most nights I would practice my water skills, would you like to watch?"

"Yeah that sounds fun" she said excitedly.

"Ok" I said as I stood up and picked up one of the bowls and moved a little ways away from Tanya and the fire.

I placed the bowl in front of me, took a deep breath, and pulled the water out of the bowl. Moving my arms around in a soft calm motions as water moved around as I wished, flicking it to and fro like a whip around me and ball it up and casting it away from to be pulled back quickly with a flick of my wrist.

I managed to catch one or two glimpses of Tanya's face she, had a mix of amazement and wonder on her beautiful face. This made me smile and started to do a lot more movements and techniques with the water as I started to move around the camp slowly and skilful taking each step with great care and grace as if I myself was water moving in smooth fluid motions. I was showing off a little but it was fun.

I made a pole out ice and froze one end in the ground, stepping back I using the remaining water to slash through it repeatedly, before the ice could hit the ground I liquefied it and made another pole and then sliced it into many bits. I did this repeatedly until I could feel myself getting tired. When I was finished I pulled the water and ice to my hands and sent it all back to the bowl.

"Wow that was amazing" Tanya exclaimed excitedly.

"Thank you very much! It's nice to have someone to show it to" I said with a big smile.

I heard a twig snap behind me "well that was amazing wasn't it" I heard someone say, and quickly spun around and stopped dead when I saw a humongous wolf only about ten feet away, staring directly at me. He was at least three feet taller than me. I was at least 5'1 and he was built like a tree, and those eyes. It was if he was trying to see into my soul.

He gave a deep chuckle and started to walk towards me. I was scared witless but my instincts kicked in, I quickly spun around gathering all the water I could and sending a torrent of water to crash into the large wolf. Forcing him back against a tree, I then clenched my hands, freezing the water around him and freezing him to the tree stopping him from moving or getting to me but still able to breathe.

"What the hell! Let me go you little freak" he yelled angrily at being beaten by a little human.

"He's not a freak he's water elemental" came a deep voice from the other side of the camp.

I quickly turned to see a larger wolf standing about 14 feet away from Tanya, I ran in front of Tanya collecting water around my hands at the same time to protect her from the other wolf, I got in a stance in which I could protect me and Tanya.

"It has been a long time since I have seen a water elemental let alone a human at that" he looked at me with great interest and I didn't like it.

"He's not just a water elemental, he can do fire as well like you daddy" Tanya said in excited voice.

That last word made my head snap around and stare at Tanya "that's your dad!?! But he's so .........BIG" I exclaim turning my head to look at the big wolf then back to Tanya who was only about 3 or 4 inches taller than me at the most, but she was still small compared to her father.

"Yep that's my dad, and it's ok he won't hurt you" she said putting her paw on my shoulder as she looked into my eyes.

I could see that there wasn't any lie behind those soft gold orbs, I got up from my stance but I still kept the water around my hands just to be on the safe side. She moved past me and ran towards the large wolf and gave him a hug. That made me feel a little safer but also seeing them and the love for each other reminded me about losing my mum and dad, the water fell from my hands as it started to try and well up from my eyes.

"Tanya I've been worried sick, we've looking for you all day, what happened?" he asked crouching down to look into her eyes.

"I was standing on the edge of the river bank when it gave way, I tried to swim but the water was too strong, then Michael saved me and brought me here" she said with a big smile.

"Is that so, thank so you very much Michael for save my silly little pup" he said as he looked up from Tanya. During this my left had come to rest on me right arm where I had been bitten and rubbing it gently as it had start to hurt.

"What happened to your arm and where are you parents?" he asked as he gave me a concerned look.

"It was an accident but Tanya bit my arm as I held her down to stop her from running off and hurting herself further when I saved her and ............ and both my parents died nearly a month ago" was all could say as tears began to flow as I tried to wipe them away.

Tanya gave a concerned look to her father who looked at me with the same expression. I could hear grunting and breathing and quickly remembered the wolf I had frozen to the tree.I walked back the wolf who was trying to get free, all the while trying to hide my tears I pulled the frozen water off from around him.

"Sorry" was all I managed to say as I looked away from the shocked wolf.

I went back to the camp and sat on my bed still trying to fight back the tears as I remembered my mother and father, but most of all I was sad that I would have to say good bye to my first friend and the first person that I have seen in a long time, for I knew that she was going to go back to her family and I would be on my own again.

I could feel their eyes on me, but I was to caught up in trying not to cry that I did not feel Tanya sit next to me. It wasn't until she spoke that I realized that she was there and her father and the other wolf had moved towards us.

"I'm sorry I bit you I didn't mean to" she said.

"It's not that. It's just that I am going to be all on my own again because you are going back to your family and mine are dead" was all I could say before I burst into tears.

"Dad can he come and live with us? Please" she pleaded as she looked from me to her father.

"He as to come with us" her father stated.

"What? Why do I have to come with you?" I asked. I was confused with what he said "why would you want me to live with you? I am a human and you're a wolf" my mind was trying to think of the answers but came up with nothing.

"The reason why is that you saved my daughter, you're an elemental like me and most of all is because you will be wolf soon"

"What do you mean I 'will be a wolf soon'? I'm a human and will always be" and now I was confused.

"We are not normal wolves, we are able to change humans into wolves like us by biting them and by doing so we pass on a gift that only humans can truly receive, but we don't go around biting humans just for the fun of it." He gave me warm and comforting look.

"what do you mean?" I was still trying to work out what he was talking about.

" Werewolves and humans have coexisted and looked after each other for thousands of years, we healed, care and helped each other in any way we could. Some humans and werewolves are able to manipulate one of the four great elements, like you and me, but sometimes if a human was dying of an illness or an injury a werewolf would bite them to save their life or if a human and a werewolf fell in love with each other, the werewolf would bite their lover out of love and pass on the gift" he stated calmly.

This was a very strange and confusing concept to take in, but in some way it made some sense "So werewolves need humans to live and to survive as a species?"

"Yes and no. We are able to pass on a gift of a longer and stronger life for humans in there forms, be it there human form or their werewolf form, but werewolves are able to have children so we do not need humans to survive as a species. A human that has been bitten by a werewolf out of love or has been bitten by accident are able to change from their human form to their werewolf form at will after their first change. But if a werewolf couple have offspring, those offspring are pure werewolves and do not have a human form"

For some strange reason it all made sense to me I think "So if a werewolf bites a human, the human will be able to change from a human to a werewolf and back but if you were born a werewolf you stay a werewolf, so does that mean that I will become werewolf" I asked Tanya's father.

He looked at me with a little bit of shock "Yes it does, you seem to be quite clever in that you managed to understand and grasp what I was saying, if you don't mind me asking how old are you Michael?"

I blushed a little when he said I was clever. I was bright but I wouldn't say clever.

I had to think about how old I was for a while "I will be 13 on the next full moon I think because I was born on the 8th full moon after the shortest day almost 13 years ago. So yeah 13 on the next full moon and I think that's in about three days time" I asked looking up to the dark sky to see the moon just peaking above the trees as I wiped the last of tears away as I began to think about my parents again.

"Well it looks like Tanya gave you your present early then" said the wolf that I froze to the tree with a chuckle and pointed to my arm.

I looked at my arm and thought to myself that how could something so simple as a bite could be so complicated at the same time. I looked up at Tanya and then to the two bigger wolves to see them looking at me with their glowing eyes in the dark around the fire. Their eyes worried me a little, but they seemed to be nice so I guess I could trust them.

I walked over to Tanya's father and put out my hand and said in a clear voice "Hello my name is Michael nice to meat you." my mother and father had always tort me to be polite.

He chucked warmly and took my hand i his and lightly shook it with a slight smile, my god his hands were big.

"Hello my name is Fenic, I am the alpha of the Fire pack and this is my beta Neak" he said pointing to the other large wolf and releasing his grip on my hand. I put out my hand to Neak and he shook it softly.

"Sorry for freezing you to a tree" I said as I tried not to look too embarrassed.

"Don't worry about" he said giving me warm smile, which I found a little odd coming from the big wolf.

I looked back at Tanya who was walking towards me with a smile. She stood right next to me still smiling as if she knew something I didn't which was probably true.

"So are you going to come with us" she inquired while again looking into my eyes.

"Do I have much choice as three against one doesn't seem that fair" I stated as I look to each of them with a soft smile, with that she gave me a big hug, which I was not expecting but quickly returned.

"So how far is your home" I asked looking at them all.

"It's about a two hour run north along the river and we should get going the others will be worried not to mention your mother Tanya" Fenic said giving me and Tanya a smile.

He turned around and started walking north with Neak and Tanya following. I looked back at my camp which was my home for a short time and then to my arm, wondering what the future will bring my way.

"Michael are you coming" Tanya called out to me from the river.

Taking one last look at my old home and thinking about what my new home might be like, "yeah I'm coming" I called back turning and running to catch up to them.

We ran for a long time in the light of the moon. They were able to see much more in the dark than me as I kept tripping and stumbling on roots on the uneven ground. I cursed myself for showing off to Tanya earlier because it took a lot out of me but I tried to keep up as best I could. That is until I fell for the last time on that life changing day.
