Journey to Another World 5 Ch. 8 * * *

(FLAHSBACK)

  • * * *You want to give me a name?* Asked the Mismagius as we sat down in the café at the Pokemon center the morning after we'd finished our intensive training session with each other. *I do not understand. I thought that trainers only named their Pokemon when we were truly their Pokemon, not when they planned on releasing it sometime down the road. Does that not put a deep bond between the trainer and said Pokemon?" She looked around the table at all the girls that were eating but had stopped to listen to her talk. *I do not think that that is such a good idea. You will grow to attached to me, and be reluctant to let me go when the time comes.* I looked around the table at some of the others, as if taking in what she had said and thinking hard about it (especially at Rena who sat next to me). "That may be true, but I think that giving someone a name is a very personal/special thing," I said as I swept my arm across the table. "It give the individual a sense of individuality against the rest of their kind. Not so much that they are singled out, just...special. You see, all my girls are special to me and they too are very special. Especially some who's quirks are just fun to see," I said as I looked over to Undine who was chewing her food with a bit of disgust at the far end of the table. 'She probably still prefers those Poffins over any regular Pokemon food.' I was stopped in my train of thoughts when both Rena and Jenavee leaned in close and gave me a kiss to either of my cheeks. "_ Thank you Donovin. That was sweat what you just said about us ," Rena said as she pulled away from giving me the peck on the cheek, then began to nuzzle into my shoulder. "_And oh so true," Jenavee said as well, then she too leaned up against my shoulder as I could see her rub her stomach. "Though you might think that each of us is special, we view you with just as much care as you do to us." Kit barked in her two cents as well, which got pretty much everybody to laugh pretty hard (though it was lost to me as I still couldn't understand Pokemon speech). I looked around the table at everybody, but nobody was willing to translate for me, so I turned back to our flying ghost. "Though that isn't the only reason that I'd like to give you a name," I told her which got her to wipe away the few tears that were in her eyes. (Author: Alright. If you must know what Kit said, it was 'Some more than others'.) *And that would be?* She asked as everybody dried their eyes and returned to eating their breakfasts. "To confuse our opponents," I said simply as I took a long drink of the blue juice that I had ordered with my breakfast of pancakes. I looked up and could see a confused look on each of their faces, as if asking for a definition. I set down my glass and nodded, "If we were to come up against a trainer and called out what you were. He'd know instantly what Pokemon would be good to use against you," I said as each of the girls looked at another. "Or simply. They could call out an electric type for a Milotic, water to a Ninetails, dark for a Gardevoir, or a ghost type to a Lucario," I explained as each of the girls finally nodded in understanding. All the girls started to chat amongst themselves but I kept my gaze on the Mismagius that was still floating opposite Undine at the other end of the table. She had a look that said that she was deep in thought as she had her head lowered and a hand on her chin. *I guess I can see what you are talking about. Though I do have to say that I like your first explanation of giving me a name, rather than the second,* She said as Jenavee helped translate again. Mismagius slowly raised her head up and gave me a nod. *Alright then. I will allow you to give me a name, but it had better be a good one because if you even think for one second that I will...* "Samantha." I said interrupting her. *What?* "Your name. Samantha, Sam for short if you prefer," All the girls turned to look at me, then turned to the Mismagius. She slowly dropped her head again and began to mumble the name under her tongue, as if seeing how it sounded/tasted to her. She eventually raised her head to me and gave me a quizzical look. *It does not sound like a bad name. Is their a reason why you choose that name, to name me?* I smirked to her. "As a matter of a fact, yes," I thought over my answer very carefully. 'Should I tell her it was from an old TV program that I really liked when I was younger?' "It was the name of a very skilled Sorceress from a story of sorts, that I really liked when I was younger," I crossed my arms and looked towards the ceiling. "Though I do have to admit that it was one of three names that I had in mind." I looked down at her. "The other two were, Polgara or Morgana, but they didn't seem to fit you that well, as they were not as caring as I saw you were when you were with your son." I could see her face slightly droop a little as she was probably thinking about her son and what her absence from him was probably doing to him. Her head quickly shot up and looked directly into my eyes. *Alright then. Now that I have a name, should it not be time to get started on planning on how we are to defeat that gym leader.* I couldn't help but smile at that. "Of course, but not here. There are to many ears around here and I don't want one of those prying ears to be one of the ones from the gym. If you get my drift," There came a resounding nod or confirmation from each of the girls. So when we all finished our breakfasts, we all headed back out to where we had been training the day previous and I explained the strategy that I'd come up with during breakfast. * * *

(Flash forward)

  • * * Water seemed to drip from every part of me that could drip, as I stood up from pulling myself out of the gym's watery floor. Both the sailor and Kit were absolutely loving the way I looked as they both were laughing quite merrily to themselves. "You should see yourself. You look like a drowned Zigzagoon," The sailor said to himself as he pointed at me with laughter obviously in his voice. I knew that Kit would have obviously said something just as humiliating, but I just gave her a look of, 'Just wait until I get you back to the center'. 'I've got some pretty nasty ideas on what I'm going to do to you once we get back to the Pokemon Center tonight.' I thought the second part to myself as I quickly spread myself out and began to shake. Once the majority of the water that was soaking my cloths was shaken off, I wrung out a little more from the sleeves and the bottom and back of the shirt, but I could still feel quite a bit of dampness still left in my pats and such that I couldn't get rid of right then. "Alright. I think everybody's had their fun," I said as I shook a leg (literally) or two and looked towards Wake. "Now I think it's time to take on the real reason that we're here." Kit slowly walked over and sat down next to me as we looked across the platform at the massive body builder who, though had a Mexican wrestlers mask on, looked like an American version of a Mexican wrestler. His mask looked like the middle of a peace sign with two silver wings that wrapped around his head, golden boots with no laces (probably latex), blue pants that had black mesh sides on the thighs with a gold belt which came up to just underneath his navel, and finally gold wrist guards that had a blue band at the top. Now that I was seeing this guy a little closer up, he really did resemble Sid from the Full Metal Alchemist series, that is if he were to actually put on such an outfit. Just then the water started to rise and I looked behind me to see that the sailor that we'd just fought was now standing on the switch raise the water level to it's highest. "Their you go kid. Now you can cross that last bridge and get to wake," He said as he walked over to me, only to slap his hand down on my shoulder. "Though you should take care. Wake's a bit of a power-house when it comes to battles." (In short, he uses some pretty strong Pokemon and uses their strength to battle.) I gave the man a nod and recalled Kit to her ball. "Thanks for the info," I said to him as I looked over my shoulder to him to give him a thumbs up. "I'll make sure to take full advantage of that." I then turned and started across the two last platforms to stand before Wake. "WELCOME TO PASTORIA CITY GYM! THE NAMES CRASHER WAKE AND I GRACIOUSLY ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THE FEN BADGE!" He yelled to me, which got my ears to ring. 'Macho bod to match an overly macho personality.' I thought as I stuck a finger into my ear to try to squeak it around in there to try and stop the ringing. 'Everything about this guy practically screams strength.' "I CRASHER WAKE, AM THE EMBODYMENT OF THE SEA AND SHALL SHOW YOU NO MERCY IF YOU TAKE THE SEA FOR GRANTED!" He yelled, (making my other ear start to ring) again as he pulled off a Pokeball and aimed it right at me. He didn't waist a moment as he threw the ball out and out erupted...a Gyaradose. I looked at the overly large serpent and looked back to the stands. I knew that an electric attack would make quick work of such a large opponent, but Jenavee was in no condition to fight. So reached back to my belt I thought for a moment then a smirk quickly spread across my face. "Very well then. Since your starting out with a large type, then I too shall be glad to match it. Come on out Undine and shine." I say as I too throw out a Pokeball which popped open and released my Milotic. Undine didn't waist any time as she brought around her tail around to cover part of her face, as she turned on the allure and gave an innocent little cry. The effect was instantaneous, as the Gyaradose was not expecting this, and fell to the floor with it's eyes slightly glazed over and it's mouth wide open with it's tongue sticking out to one side of it's enormous mouth. I remember what my grandfather once told me, 'When chopping down a tree, don't start with the side with all the knots. Go after the side that's been left weakened by the elements.' Or in other words, since this Gyaradose only concentrates on it's battles, it leaves it's heart wide open to attack. Either that or Wake's Gyaradose hadn't seen a breeder in quite some time. "What the...what did you do to my Gyaradose?!" Wake demanded as the serpent started to circle Undine and she just giggled. "Gyaradose, shake it off and use Bite!" He yelled, only it didn't have the desired effect as the Gyaradose would give little love nips to Undine here and there as he continued to circle her. 'I am getting tired of this. Are we going to finish this up Donovin?' I heard Jenavee say, but when I turned to look at her she was pointing at Undine who had a look of annoyance when I turned and looked back at her. "Go right ahead Undine." I said which Undine happily smiled. She said something to the Gyaradose (to which he nodded) and large blue serpent quickly jumped over and into the large pool. Undine of course didn't join him though as she brought her tail around and started swirling it in the water. When the Gyaradose came back up from the water he could see that Undine hadn't joined him and cocked his head to the side in confusion. "Alright Undine, use Twister and follow it up with Ice Beam!" I yelled. "What are you doing Gyaradose?! Get out of the water before..." But it was to late and Gyaradose wasn't heeding any of Wake's commands/words. Just like I'd hoped, the Twister had a different effect when it was in the water. Effectively turning it into a cyclone and at that, sucking up vast amounts of water. Once they cyclone had enough water, Undine pushed it out to the Gyaradose which was still looking on in confusion. Though once it realized what was truly going on, it was to late as the cyclone sucked him up from the base of the cyclone and started to spin him inside of it. Once the whole body of the Gyaradose was within the cyclone (spinning around and around making it incredibly dizzy as well as a little sick), Undine raised up her head and opened her mouth so that small white bead was showing right in the middle of her mouth. Like a bolt of lightning, a white bolt shot out of her mouth and collided with the swirling vortex. Instantly freezing the whole thing, along with the dizzy, confused, and shocked Gyaradose. "Gyaradose is unable to battle." I heard somebody say. Quickly looking around, I finally spotted a judge who had shown up at some point to officiate the match. When I turned back to the battle, I could see that Wake had a very upset look on his face. Undine came over to me then and slowly wrapped herself around me, then lowered her head to my shoulder. "That was a little close." She whispered to me. "I don't want to think what that..." She looked up to the ceiling then chuckled. "Thanks Jenavee." She then lay her head back onto my shoulder. "That...Horn Dog, would have done to me if you hand not said something soon." My eyes went wide as I knew that she didn't know what that word actually meant. I looked back to the stands to see both Rena and Jenavee giggling to themselves as Jenavee must have told Rena about the word that she said to Undine, then waved a pinky at me which got both the girls to start laughing again. 'Damn, she's gotten sneaky about that. I've go to learn how to keep her out of my head one of these days before she gets into some of the darker stuff.' "If it would not be to much to ask. I would like to rest for a bit." Undine said as I looked up to her and could see the mental strain on her from all the previous battle against the others trainers in the gym. "Even goddesses like myself need to rest from time to time." "You did a wonderful job Undine. Now it's time for a good long rest." I said as I pulled off her ball and recalled her to it. When I was about ready to pull off my next selection, I looked back over the field and saw that Wake was just standing on the other side of the field. "You remind me of the sea." He said as he gave me a smirk. I simply raised an eyebrow at him. "Is that so, and why's that?" "The sea at times can be a cruel mistress, but at others...like how your Milotic defeated my Gyaradose, she can be as gentle or tricky as a lover." He said as he threw back his head and laughed. Only to abruptly stop and stare across the platform to me. "Now call out your next choice so that we can get started with the second of our three part match." I looked around the field but didn't see a released Pokemon from Wake. "You first." I said as I continued to look around the field at anything that would help me in the next challenge. "I've already called out my second." He pointed it towards the water. "You were just to caught up with dealing with your Milotic to notice. 'Damn. Another amateur mistake.' I thought as I strained my eyes to try and see past the settling water to whatever his second Pokemon was. 'Obviously it's another water type, and probably a fish as it doesn't seem to be moving around down there. Better not make another amateur mistake like before... "Ok Samantha. It's time to take the stage." A part of my shadow quickly scooted across the ground and stayed right before the water's edge. "Now go and hide within the ice until we find out what we're dealing with here." The shadow circled around me or a moment, before it shot off across the water and then into the recently vacated Gyaradose icicle. "Hmm. A very interesting tactic. Though pointless as now your Pokemon can't attack mine." He pointed his hand towards the icicle, "Quickly Floatzel, use Sonic Boom to cut away at that ice." With that the water weasel leapt out of the water and started thrashing it's tail around. The weasel's tail increased it's speed until it was engulfed with a white cloud, then spun towards the ice. Once the attack hit the ice, it acted like a sharp knife and started cutting away at the ice. Slowly but surely taking chunks out of it, and bringing it that much closer to the mysterious Pokemon within. "Though I may not know what type of Pokemon you sent out into that ice. It wont matter for long as my Floatzel will cut it to ribbons when there is no more ice to protect it." With less and less ice to displace the water, the ice encasing Samantha began to slowly dip beneath the water. "Lets see how your Pokemon likes the depths." He smiled. "Floatzel, take the rest of the ice to the bottom and use Bite to break through." The Floatzel gave a quick nod the proceeded to drag it down under the surface. "WHAT? NO...DON'T DO THAT. ANYTHING BUT..." I smirked. "Gotcha." Wake didn't have a chance to respond as their came a great flash from under the water and then nothing. Without warning the Floatzel shot out of the water and landed back on our platform and started to dance around in a confused/drunk state. "WHAT? Confusion...but how?" "Samantha. Come on up and use Shadow Ball to your hearts content." The room started to grow a little cold as Samantha slowly rose out from under the surface of the water. With an evil cackle, she spread out her arms/cloak and Shadow Balls quickly began to form. Once they were of a proper size she threw them at the confused weasel, which quickly exploded on contact. Though most hit at first, it began to become difficult to tell a hit from a miss, as a dark cloud started to form from the explosions. "Floatzel are you ok?" Wake yelled. Without warning the weasel shout out of the cloud, using a Aqua Jet attack that quickly hit Samantha in the stomach and then pushed her to the platform. There was hardly anything that Samantha could do, as she wasn't given the chance to recover as the Floatzel began to use it's Bite attack on her. 'Donovin. You have to do something. She is getting hurt out there!' Jenavee yelled at me from the stands. That seemed to snap me out of my stupor and I was back in the fight. "SAM, FADE BACK INTO THE PLATFORM!" I yelled which she promptly did, so now the weasel was standing over nothing but a black spot underneath it. I didn't need to tell her anything else as she was already pretty pissed at being so scraped up. Just behind the weasel, the spot reformed and a set of menacing claws came out of the ground. "Floatzel! Behind you!" Wake yelled which caused the Floatzel to fully jump around only to put it's face right into the waiting Shadow Claws. The claws quickly went to work, scratching up the Floatzel's face, and dealing it a heavy amount of damage. Eventually the damage from the claws proved to much and the Floatzel fell to it's stomach with the usual swirl like eyes. Signaling it's defeat and unconsciousness. Samantha came out from the ground to give the weasel a scowl then floated over to me. She was almost there when her own wounds proved to much for her and she fell out of her levitation, right into my awaiting arms. *Did I do it? Did I defeat that Floatzel?* I gave her a smirk and nodded to her. "You did wonderful, Samantha. Now you take a good long rest and leave the rest up to us." I said as I gave her a quick hug then recalled her to her ball while hugging her. Once she was safely within her ball, I looked up to see Wake just recall his own Pokemon. "And just like the sea, you have proven to be a mystery, like what the depths contain just under he surface." He smiled as he pulled off his third Pokeball. "This is my last Pokemon and last hope in defeating you. So if you're able to defeat my last Pokemon, then you will have earned the right to have the Fen Badge. Now, prepare yourself." He said as he threw out his last Pokeball to the platform. What came out must have been a bit of a joke, because the last Pokemon looked fairly...stupid. Pulling out my Pokedex I looked up the strange Pokemon. "Quagsire, the water/ground Pokemon and the evolved form of Wooper. It has a sluggish like nature. It lies at the river's bottom, waiting for prey to stray into it's mouth." 'Water and ground...that's not good. Both types are strong against fire types, which will put Kit at a major disadvantage.' I looked behind me on my belt and contemplated my options. 'Undine is so mentally fatigued that she's probably used up all her PP (Author: Oh quit snickering. It's in the game after all.) for all her moves and Samantha is pretty badly hurt from that last battle.' I looked towards the stands. 'Yet again, I wish that Jenavee was here. Her magical leaf attack would have been perfect for battling this type of Pokemon.' I shook my head. 'I've got to stop thinking about that. Since I can't use her, I've just got to put those thoughts out of my mind and concentrate on the battle.' So pulling off Kit's ball, I released her next to me. "A very interesting choice to take on my Quagsire." Wake said as he smiled to me. "My Quagsire vs. your Shinny Ninetails. This shouldn't take to long. Quagsire, get ready for this." The thing didn't even acknowledge him as it waddled a little more closer to us then gave out it's name quite slowly. I knelt down and placed my right arm around Kit's shoulders and pulled her in close. "Are you sure that your up to this Kit?" I asked her as she turned to me and gave me a lick to my cheek, as if to reassure me. "You know that your going up against, not only a water type but a ground type as well." I looked over to the Quagsire and smirked. "Though he may have two advantages over you, you still have one." She looked up to me. "That Quagsire has a sluggish nature, so I think the best thing would be to keep ahead of it with speed and accuracy." "Wait a minute. Are you truly serious about sending out a fire type against a ground and water type, like my Quagsire?" Wake asked as one of his eyebrows slowly rose in suspicion. Almost like he was contemplating what sort of surprises this trainers Ninetails knew since each of the others had caught his Pokemon by surprise. I stood up next to Kit and gave him a quick nod. "Unlike most fire types, Kit is special. For the last several days, she's been training with my Milotic, Undine." I looked down at her as she looked up at me, and we both gave each other a smile. Turning to look back at Wake I gave him a hard look. "Did you honestly think that I'd be that dumb to send Kit into a fight that I knew that she couldn't win?" And just like that she shot out from my side and quickly closed the gap between her and the Quagsire. "Quagsire, use Mud Shot." It all happened in two short moments. The Quagsire lifted it's head back while saying the first part of it's name, then when it thrust it's head forward to shoot out the mud blobs it said the second part of it's name in a shout. (Quag 'Intake of air for the shot'.....Sire 'Expel the shots of mud from it's sacks within it's mouth') It was almost like watching someone dancing on a hot tin plate, as Kit would constantly run towards the Pokemon but continuously bounce from one spot to the next, in attempt to dodge the attacks. Though few actually did score, many of the shots didn't and that reminded me of a show about some automatic sub-machine guns (squeeze and pray as it were). The reason because, the shots were very spread out and didn't look to truly be aimed at Kit. Once Kit go in close though, she spun on her front paws and brought around her tail which quickly solidified into one silver mass and hit the Quagsire like an aluminum bat to the gut. The Quagsire was still shooting out mud so couldn't actually stop in mid attack, so took the attack without protest. The Quagsire quickly skidded across the field and came to a stop a little distance in front of Wake. It lay there for a moment before lifting it's head up and the look in it's eyes told it all. They were saying that it surely didn't expect a fire type to put up much of a fight and an easy win (boy, was that the wrong impression). "An impressive hit, for sure." Wake said as his Quagsire got back to it's feet. "And just like the rest of your team, we can't take this one for granted either." He nodded and Quagsire mimicked. "But lets see how you handle this." He pointed at Quagsire. "Into the water Quagsire." Without a second to hesitate, the Quagsire leapt into the water on the side of the platform and hid beneath the surface. I looked at the quickly fading water Pokemon and the big smirk that was slowly spreading across his face. 'Damn it all to...' I cursed under my breath. 'It would be a good time to switch...' I quickly shook my head to dispel the thought of switching out Pokemon and started thinking of how I was going to turn the situation to my advantage. 'Ok, now think. You have a fire type that can't go into the water to chase after that water type, because that would be just plain suicide. So if I can't get Kit to the Quagsire, then I'll have to get it to come to...' I didn't get a chance to finish that thought as a high powered shot came out of the water towards Kit. "KIT, DUCK!" I yelled. Unfortunately my warning didn't come fast enough and Kit got hit just under her chin which threw her head back and I could easily hear her neck give off an audible pop sound. The shot continued until Kit was thrown backwards over her tails and landed on her back, in from of me. I quickly knelt down to check her out, but didn't need to as I could hear her growl deeply. She quickly leapt to her feet (which put her right on the edge of the platform) and launched a Flamethrower attack right where the water had been shot out from. The exchange never seemed to end as a shot would come out from some random spot from under the waters surface, Kit would be hit somewhere that would make her even more mad, and she would launch a Flamethrower in retaliation. Finally I'd had enough as she was now started to really show the signs of nearing her passing out point, but stopped when I noticed something. The water was starting to boil and the water that was shooting out from the water's surface from the Quagsire was starting to look more and more like it was coming from one of those 25cent water guns. I watch the bubbles slowly start to increase in frequency until my elementary school science kicked in. (Author: Alright everybody. Can you answer this question. How do you kill a frog with ordinary water? No, the water isn't frozen. No, you don't keep pouring it down it's throat. Yes you could drown it, but that'd take forever. And no, you don't drop it into a boiling pot of water, as the frog would just jump out of it. Give up? You slowly bring the water to a boil) "Oh god!" I quickly shoved Kit back, which got to immediately stop shooting her Flamethrower into the water, and dove in. "What in the world do you think your doing. Your interrupting the battle." Wake said as he walked over to the edge of his platform, but quickly backed away while covering his face with his forearm. "Oh god." He quickly pointed to the referee that was standing not far away. "This match is over, we now have an emergency on our hands." The referee's eyes went wide as he started looking about for the emergency. "We need three wooden tubs in here, NOW! Fill them all with water but have one cold, the second room temp, and the third to hot." The referee just stood there on his podium in confusion for a moment longer until... "NOW!" Wake yelled, which got the referee to fall of his podium and quickly grab several trainers to fill the gym leaders wishes. Wake turned back to the water and looked down at the bubbling surface. "I just hope that we can get them out of there before they boil."
