PART 3

That night Leo had a strange dream. He dreamed that he was alone in pitch black room. It was cold and dark, and the young wolf felt isolated, as if he was the last fur one earth. Then from out of the darkness, stepped a tall lioness with dove like wings on her back. Her fur was ice white and she seemed to have a glow coming from her.

_The glow made it hard for Leo to see her face. _

She slowly approached Leo and scooped him up into her warm arms before she carried him out of the room.

ANGEL: "Your safe with me, little one."

INT-bedroom, morning

As Leo slowly awoke, the first thing that came into his vision was Angel's pretty face smiling back down at him. Angel wore a dark purple dress and brown sandals on her feet.

ANGEL: Good morning Leo, how did you sleep last night?

LEO: I slept like a log, Miss Angel. By the way what time is it?

ANGEL: It's about 8 o'clock. Would you like to lie in for a bit or would you like some breakfast?

LEO: "I'd love some breakfast."

ANGEL: "Breakfast it is then, hun. Oh, and by the way here are some clothes."

The lioness places Leo's jeans (which she has washed and ironed) and a baggy blue t-shirt on the end of the bed for him.

ANGEL: I'll be downstairs in the kitchen.

Angel ruffles Leo's head-fur before she makes her way out of the bedroom.

Leo slowly gets out of bed and puts on the clothes before he makes his way down to the kitchen. He enters the kitchen to find Angel sitting at the table.

ANGEL: It's great to see that you're up. Any preferences for breakfast?

LEO: I honestly don't mind.

_ANGEL: "Well then, how about some scrambled eggs and pancakes?" _

Leo feels his mouth begin to water and his stomach growl.

LEO: "Yes please. Eggs and pancakes are my favourite."

ANGEL: "I best get them ready for you. Besides a good breakfast will get your strength up. Oh, I almost forgot."

The lioness places a glass of orange juice down on the table, which Leo happily accepts. Angel then gets to work cooking the breakfast, humming whilst she does so.

Several minutes later breakfast is ready. Angel scoops the food onto two plates before she sits down beside Leo. Both canine and feline begin to tuck into their breakfast.

LEO: "These eggs are great. This is officially one of the nicest breakfasts I've eaten in my life. Thank you very much for this."

ANGEL: "Your welcome, love."

LEO: "My mum rarely makes breakfast."

For a moment Leo looks as though he's about to cry, but he shakes his head and forces a smile on his muzzle. Angel places a paw on his shoulder.

_ANGEL: "It's ok Leo. I understand that this isn't easy for you. Just try and stay strong." _

LEO: "You know, for this nice breakfast I ought to pay you back somehow."

_ANGEL: "Oh, there's no need for that love. I accept your gratitude and besides I believe that goodness is its own reward." _

_Once their breakfast is finished, the two head into the living room and settle themselves down on the couch. Angel switches on the TV to a news channel before she notices her phone buzz with a text message. _

ANGEL: "The police will be hear shortly. They're going to be giving you another interview."

LEO: "I see."

ANGEL: "Do you feel nervous?"

LEO: "A little but I'll live."

_The two of them sit in silence for the next 10 minutes, until there is a knock at the door. Angel gets up and exits the room to let the police inside. _

Soon Leo is greeted by Officer Barker and Selina as well as a female kangaroo, who is dressed like a business woman.

BARKER: "Good morning lad. How are you feeling today?"

LEO: "I feel much better than I felt yesterday."

BARKER: "That's good to know. Anyhow, Lacey hear is from social services. She going to be interviewing you today."

The kangaroo woman smiled and waved at Leo. The young wolf smiles slightly and gives Lacey a polite wave back.

SELINA: "In the meantime, where going to be having a word with Angel in the kitchen."

LEO: "Officer, what's happening to my mother and Charlie?"

BARKER: "Oh their both in custody as we speak. They are awaiting trial for drug position and money laundering. If we can charge for child abuse as well, then they could be looking at decades behind bars with no chance of parole."

LEO: "Sounds brilliant. I hope those areseholes get what's coming to them."

_Angel, Officer Barker and Selina leave the living room. Lacey settles herself down on the couch next to Leo before she retrieves a note pad from her bag. _

_ LACEY: "Are you feeling comfortable young man?"_

LEO: "I am."

LACEY: "Good. Would you be able to recall certain events that occurred months ago?"

_LEO: "I should be able to." _

LACEY: "Think back to all the times your careers physically hurt you. Or even times they threatened you or done drugs. I know this may not be easy for you, but we need as much information from you as we can. What you tell us, can be used to help prosecute your careers."

LEO: "Where should begin?"

LACEY: "If you can, why don't you think back to the first time they acted aggressive to you?"

_ ******** _

Leo spent a good two hours informing the kangaroo about all the unpleasant incidents that had occurred over the past several months.

_At one-point Lacey looked as though she'd cry, but she was able to retain herself. _

LACEY: "You've done very well telling me what occurred. I think you've been very brave. For now, I think this is enough."

LEO: "So what happens next?"

LACEY: "Earlier I made some arrangements. Later today someone will come here, and they'll take you to Berry Side orphanage. There's no need to worry as Berry Side is nothing like what Charlie has said."

LEO: "That's a relief!"

LACEY: "Now let's see Angel and the others shall we."

Leo nods before he follows Lacey into the kitchen, where Angel and the two officers are finishing a conversation at the table.

_BARKER: "How did your interview go lad?" _

LEO: "It went alright."

BARKER: "That's good to know. Anyhow, we must be off now as duty calls, but hopefully I'll see you again. I wish you best of luck out there, kid."

_Lacey and the two officers bid Leo fare ware, before they leave. Leo is now alone in the kitchen with Angel. _

ANGEL: "Before that fur from Berry Side gets hear, how about some lunch Leo?"

LEO: "What is for lunch?"

ANGEL: "How dose homemade pizza sound?"

LEO: "Sounds great!"

_ ******** _

INT-LIVING ROOM- AFTERNOON

Leo follows Angel into her living room, before they both settle down next to each other on a comfy brown arm chair.

LEO: "That was a great homemade pizza miss Angel. It's probably one of the nicest pizza's I've eaten in my life."

ANGEL: "Why thank you. My parents taught me how to cook all nice sorts of things. Now what would you like to do?"

LEO: "I honestly can't think of anything."

ANGEL: "Maybe we could watch a film or something?"

_LEO: "That sounds like fun. What can we watch?" _

ANGEL: "Anything of your choice sweetheart. Well so long as it's not rated a 15 or an 18."

Leo gets up from the arm chair and makes his way over to a large shelf that is clustered with rows upon rows of DVDs. Many of these DVDs consist of animation, comedies, horrors, boxsets series and several educational ones. Leo spends a good several minutes scanning the shelf before he picks out two of his favourite films of all time. The Lion King and Tarzan.

He then returns to the arm chair.

ANGEL: "Hey good choices Leo, the Lion king is great film. It's based on true events you know. How my ancestors lived."

LEO: "Sure, I already knew that. By the way you don't think I'm too old for watching Disney movies?"

ANGEL: "Of course, not love. Your, never too old for them."

She then takes the Lion King dvd, from Leo and inserts the disk in the DVD player.

_As the advertisements play, Angel goes into the kitchen and fills up a plastic bowl with salted popcorn from a packet. Next Angel pours out two glasses of Coke, for her and Leo before she returns to the living room with their snacks. Placing the snacks onto a coffee table, the lioness settles herself beside Leo, just as the film begins. _

When the film reached the stampede scene, Angel noticed Leo looking quite worried. To Leo's surprise Angel fast forwards the film to the scene to where Simba runs away from the pride lands.

LEO: "Thanks, I don't really like that scene."

ANGEL: "Neither do I."

She places a paw reassuringly on his shoulder and smiles at him.

Leo smiles back.

Once the lion king is finished, they then watch Tarzan.

LEO: "I really like this film. Especially since Tarzan is a wolf just like me and one of my good friends is a gorilla, just like Terk and Kala."

ANGEL: "That's good reasoning there, child."

_ Half way through the film Leo begins to feel drowsily. He lets out a cute little yawn and rests his head on Angels shoulder. Angel pauses the film, before she places her arm around Leo and wraps her tail around his waist._

ANGEL: "Have a little nap dear. It'll make you feel better."

Leo omits another small yawn and within minutes is sound asleep. Angel smiles as she watches the wolf cub slumber.

ANGEL:

(thinks to herself)

"He looks so adorable when he's asleep. He's one of the cutest wolf cubs I've seen in my life."

Half an hour passes, and Leo slowly awakes. He rubs his eyes and slowly begins to observe his surroundings.

ANGEL: "How did you sleep love?"

LEO: "I slept like a log mum. Sorry, I mean miss Angel..."

The lioness looks stunned almost as if she's seen a ghost. She then looks as though she's about to burst into tears.

LEO: "Oh God no. I'm sorry I said that."

He backs away from the stunned lioness. However, she pulls him into a warm embrace. The lioness is now smiling back at him, and she has tears in her eyes.

ANGEL: "It's okay honey, your more welcome to call me mum any time you like."

LEO: "Thank you, mum."

_The young wolf begins to feel tears of joy come to his eyes as he embraces the feline. _

_Leo acknowledges that nothing lasts forever, so he will make the most of every second, of this beautiful moment. _

Leo and Angel are both startled by loud knock coming from the door.

ANGEL:

_(Sights) _

"That must be someone from Berry Side."

_Her hazel eyes have a glint of sadness to them. Leo also looks quite upset as well. _

LEO: "I sure am goanna miss you, mum. Your one of the nicest felines I've met in my life."

ANGEL: "I'm going to miss you as well child, but I promise that I'll visit you, first chance I get."

The lioness strokes the back of Leo's head before she gets up from the couch and leaves the room to answer the door. Leo begins to feel his eye's flood with tears and he begins to shake slightly.

Angel and slender red vixen woman enter the living room and approach Leo.

VIXEN: "Why hello, little one."

LEO: "Um, hi miss."

VIXEN: "My name Julia and your name is Leonardo, right? Unless you prefer Leo instead?"

LEO: "I kinda prefer Leo."

JULIA: "Well Leo, I'm here to take you to Berry Side. There's no need for you to feel worried because at Berry Side, we take good care of our cubs. We make sure that they aren't being picked on or left out and we do are best to help them get adopted."

LEO: "That's good to know. Before I go, can I say good bye to Angel?"

JULIA: "Of course, you can love."

_Leo slowly approaches the lioness, who kneels so she is his height. _

_ LEO:_

(gulps back a sob)

"Well, good bye Miss Angel"

ANGEL:

"Good bye Leo."

Angel wipes a tear away from her eye, before she embraces the young wolf boy. Both canine and feline, stay in each other's arms for a good 2 minutes, before Leo slowly breaks away from the lion's grasp.

LEO:

(mutters)

"Nothing lasts forever."

Julia holds out her paw to Leo, which he firmly grips onto before she leads him to the front door. Leo glances back at Angel who is biting her lower lip.

ANGEL:

(Sniffs)

"I'm going to miss that boy."

As Julia leads Leo down along the pavement to her car, she notices tears flooding down Leo's face.

LEO:

(Sobbing)

"I can't be like this. I've got to be strong."

Julia lifts Leo up into her arms and holds him close to her.

_"It's ok kid, you let it out. I can't imagen what you've been through." _

Leo continues to sob as the vixen woman holds him in her arms.

_TEXT: 4 Days later....... _

INT Berry side orphanage, afternoon

_Alicia: "None of this is your fault Leo. You were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. You were caught in cross fire of your carers reckless behaviour. _

Leo sit's inside a small office, on a comfy leather sofa. He is facing a female polar bear, who sits beside him. The polar bears name is Alicia and she is counsellor who works at the orphanage.

Leo: "I know. I just wish that I'd got away earlier and told someone about the abuse."

_Alicia smiles reassuringly at him. _

Alicia: "You did the right thing in the end and that's what matters. I've heard cases of adults involved in similar situations to you. They've been trapped in abusive relationships and they have a hard time coming forward as usually they have no one to go to."

The bears reassuring words make Leo smile slightly.

Just then there is a knock on the door.

Alicia: "come in."

In walks a female falcon by the name of Hazel. She looks rather cheerful and quite excited.

Alicia: "Why hello there, Hazel."

Hazel: "Hi Alicia, are you finished with Leo?"

Alicia: "Sure, he's all yours."

The falcon slowly approaches Leo, with a warm smile on her beak.

Hazel: "Leo, I have some great news for you. Someone is offering to adopt you."

_The young wolf cub is astounded. He can hardly believe his ears but in a good way. After only 4 days of staying at the Orphanage someone wants to adopt him. _

Leo: "who might that be?"

Hazel: "You'll see little one."

Taking his paw, Hazel leads Leo out of the office and into a room.

_As Leo enters the room and observes his soundings, he lets out a small gasp of joy. He has seen Angel who is seated on a chair. _

Angel: "Why hello Leo. I'm sure Hazel has told you about my proposal to adopt you."

Leo: "She has!"

Leo begins to feel his eyes flood with tears of joy.

Angel: "What do you say to that child? You can take your time on deciding."

Suddenly Leo runs over to Angel and hugs her, burring his head into her chest. He begins to sob loudly. In response Angel warps her arms around his back and begins to rock Leo back and forth, hushing him.

Hazel: "I.. um best give you two a moment alone."

_Hazel exits the room, whilst the feline and canine embrace. _

_ ****************_

Several hours later

_ INT- Bathroom, night time_

_ Leo sits in the bathtub filled with water, as Angel sits beside the tub on a stool_

_ and gently washes leo's back with a soft sponge. Leos sits still and stays silent,_

_ while Angel hums a tune._

_ LEO:_

_ "What's that?"_

_ ANGEL:_

_ "What's what, dear?"_

_ LEO:_

_ "That song you're humming"_

_ ANGEL:_

_ "oh, it's just something my mother_

_ used to sing to me when She used to_

_ give me and my sister a bath, when I was_

_ about your age."_

_ LEO:_

_ "It's really nice. Mum never sang to me ever."_

_ ANGEL:_

_ "I can sing to you anytime you want, Leo. Anytime."_

_ Leo smiles slightly._

_ LEO:_

_ "I'd like that"_

_ Angel continues to hum and then starts to soak the sponge _

_ in soapy suds as she then washes the top of leo's head._

_ ANGEL:_

_ "Close your eyes, hun."_

_ Leo closes his eyes as Angel scrubs the soap into Leo's _head fur.

_ After Angel is finished soaping up Leo's head, she then takes a small bowl of clean water and rinses the soap out of his fur._

_ ANGEL:_

_ "Are you ready to get out?"_

_ Leo nods and gets out slowly from the bath tub._

_ Angel takes a warm towel and dry's him off from top to bottom._

_ Leo smiles at Angel as she wipes him dry. Angel looks at Leo and_

_ smiles back. Leo then begins to sob._

_ ANGEL:_

_ "What's wrong, little one?"_

_ Leo suddenly wraps his arms around Angel and hugging her as tight as he can_

_ Whilst crying in her chest. Angel hugs Leo back and wraps her tail around his_

_ waist. She licks the top of his head and strokes the back of his head._

Angel then gently picks Leo up and settles herself down on the stool. Humming her tune, the lioness begins to rock Leo back and forth.

Several minutes go by and Leo has stopped his crying.

ANGEL: Are you feeling better now sweet heart?

LEO:

(sniffs)

I'm feeling a lot better now. Could you kiss me?

ANGEL: Of course, child.

Angel plants a kiss on his forehead and then both of his checks, making Leo blush slightly.

ANGEL: Your more than welcome to ask me for a kiss any time you like. Now let's get you to bed, eh? I'll tuck you in and I'll read to you for a bit.

LEO: That sounds good. Could you read to me the story from Tales of the Animal kingdom? It's the story about the wolf knight and the feline angel?

ANGEL: "Sure thing. That story happens to be one of my favourites."

Angel takes hold of Leo's paw and leads him out of the bathroom.

TEXT: 2 weeks later.....

_ INT- Leo's new bedroom, night time_

_The walls of his bedroom are decorated, with various anime and super hero posters. His shelves are clusters with lego Star Wars and bathound sets, that Angel brought him. _

_Leo's lays awake on his bed. Despite the bed is comfortable, Leo can't sleep. He's still getting use to his surroundings of his new home. Besides he feels safer sleeping next to his new mother. _

_Leo gets up from his bed and makes his way to Angels room. _

_Appearance wise Leo has also changed. He has put on more weight thanks to regular meals Angel has fed him. His fur has become lighter and silkier, due to regular baths and showers. _

INT- Angel's bedroom

Angel lays in her bed, sitting up against a pillow. She is reading a detective novel.

The moment Angel sees the young wolf approaching her bed, a warm smile appears on her muzzle.

Angel: "Why hello child. Are you having trouble sleeping?"

Leo: "Yeah kinda."

Angel: "Oh never mind, love. You can sleep next to me, tonight."

Leo: "Really? Thank you, mum."

Leo clambers into the bed, before Angel holds him close to her: resting his head on her shoulder and wrapping her arms around him.

Leo is instantly filled with feelings of joy and warmness.

Not long ago, Leo had begun referring to the lioness as "mum." For Angel, whenever Leo called her "mum" or "mother" it warmed her heart.

Leo had a long road ahead of him for recovery but recognising Angel as a mother figure was a step in the right direction. It would help him move on from his past demons.

Leo: "Are you fine with me sleeping next to you? I'm not too old for this am I?"

Angel: "I don't mind at all, there were plenty of times when I slept in with my parents when I was around your age. Besides, I'm just happy to be a mother again."

Leo: "If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean?"

For a moment Angel looks very upset, before she then takes a deep breath.

Angel: "I ought to tell you at some point about my son. His name was Oscar...."

Leo: "Oh god. What happened to him?"

Angel: "This all happened about 10 years ago whilst I was at uni."

The feline takes a deep breath.

Angel: "I ended up getting pregnant, after a one-night fling with some lion. However, when I found out that I was pregnant, I was over joyed and my family where very supportive of it as well. You see at some point I wanted to be a mother."

Tears begin to spill down Angels cheeks.

Angel: "I lost him..... He was born premature.... He only lived for a few days..."

Leo feeling tears come to his eyes.

Leo: "I'm really sorry to hear that....."

Angel: "But it's okay, Oscar is somewhere peaceful now. Besides I have you to raise as my son."

With her warm words, Leo's sorrow begins to fade. But still a question lingers on his mind.

Leo: "As my mother, you're not going to....."

The young wolf can't bring out the words.

Angel: "you can tell me anything hun."

She now is smiling at him.

Leo: "You're not going to start taking drugs and drinking, like Kate my old mum did? Sorry I...."

Angel: "Oh sweet heart, there is no need for an apology. You have every right to know. I haven't drank in years, neither have I taken any substances."

That was all Leo needed to hear. She smiles reassuringly at Leo, who lets out a small yawn. Angel begins to hum as she him holds him close to her. In a short amount of time Leo is sound asleep.

Angel: "Sleep well my son. You weren't dead, you were just lost."

She kisses him on the forehead before she drifts into a peaceful slumber.

Both mother and son sleep peacefully beside each other happy and content.
