A Story of a troubled dragon shifter.

So for the next two days, Rhy thought about what Joeri offered him. Yes, it would be better than living in a cave, but... Joeri didn't know about his gun, or stacks of alcohol, or such. Those would definitely bring a turmoil if he brought them to Joeri's house. He was pretty sure they had to be registered, but wasn't, so it was pretty sure those items won't be welcomed. And they were in some ways, his ways to get rid of stress. Sure, he had books, but books alone couldn't rid him of all the stress he gets on a usual basis. He really didn't want to give up his machine gun and his barrels of alcohol. Plus, he probably wouldn't be able to go out whenever he liked to fly as he would be living in another person's home. That and he would be risking his cover if they knew about it. If his professor Ravison hadn't started a rumor that is.

'God damnit...' Rhy swore under his breath. 'Now how am I going to explain that I'm not going without offending Joeri?' He didn't know about her a lot, but he from what knew that Joeri was going to argue that living alone wasn't a good idea for sure. And he really didn't want to have an argument with her. She was like the only one he felt like his friend, though it always troubled him when she thanked him, and so he really didn't want one. But he wasn't going to go live with Joeri, as that was a done matter, and that meant there was no avoiding the argument. He looked at the sun. Probably time to go if he wanted to make it for his promise. 'God damnit...' he growled, launched himself into the air, and began to fly.

He landed on the same spot as last time, started to make his way towards town. He had no idea that Joeri or by that means, that any of his colleges lived this close to where he lived. His cave only had one, ONE town, which wasn't even big at all, and Joeri lived there! What was the odds of her living here, and could there be any more? He hoped not. He shifted to his human form, and started to walk into town. Soon he saw Joeri waiting for him at the exact side of road they met a few days ago. 'You made up for your promise, I see.' Joeri stated, when Rhy walked up to her and nodded his head. 'I did give you my word, didn't I?' Rhy said. 'Yes, you did, and I'm glad you made up for it.' Joeri answered. 'So, did you consider about my offer? I told my parents, and I've got permission from my parents. I'd say that they were happy about it, if not excited.' Joeri said, hope in her eyes. 'About that...' Rhy started. But he didn't have a chance to talk as Joeri cut him off immediately. 'That means yes, right?' She said excitedly. Then she proceeded by grabbing his arm and pulling him. 'It's this way!' she exclaimed excitedly. Rhy, caught off guard, was just dragged along by Joeri, who appeared to be very enthusiastic to have him with her. Caught off guard, Rhy was just dragged along until they stopped in front of a small, but cozy looking wooden house. It looked a bit old, but it looked like the house was in good hands, as it had an antique look to it. 'Wow. Your house looks beautiful...' Rhy said unconsciously. 'It looks old, doesn't it?' Joeri said, enthusiastically. 'Just wait here. I'll go get my parents. They'll be really happy!' she said. 'Yes, about that...' Rhy started again, but Joeri was already opening the door and running in. 'For fuck sakes...' Rhy grumbled.

Her parents came out as soon as they heard the news, the news Joeri thought of, and walked out the door. As soon as Rhy saw them, he swore: 'Crap' under his breath. The two adults looked so happy to see him! And he still wasn't going to live with them. He haven't changed his mind yet. And now Joeri made it all harder for him to explain by bringing her parents in. 'Hello! You must be Rhy Quan! It's so good to meet you! I'm Unicy.' the female of the two, Joeri's mother, greeted him. She looked so happy to see him. 'Great. Now it's going to be even harder to get out of this...' Rhy thought. But he kept a straight face. He didn't want to make a bad impression on his 'kind of only' friend's parents on the first meeting. He didn't want to lose his friend, as much as he liked the solitude. 'Hi.' The man beside her, greeted him. 'And that must be Joeri's father.' Rhy thought, as he nodded at him politely. 'Come in, come in!' Unicy said excitedly. Rhy tried to object and say that this was all just a big misunderstanding, but before he can take any act himself, Joeri was already grabbing his arm and pulling him in. Before he knew it, he was already through the door, while Joeri was chattering excitedly beside him, not having a clue of what Rhy was thinking.

The group urged Rhy, who was almost literally getting dragged along the way, to sit in one of the chairs in the living room. 'I'll get you some refreshments.' Unicy said, as soon as Rhy seated himself. 'I hear you're a friend of Joeri.' Joeri's father started. 'And I know you parents saved our lives, so I must say; Thank you.' 'Umm... You know this all wouldn't have happened if my parents weren't in the Devil's Partners in the first place. But I guess it'll be rude not to accept it, so thanks..?' Rhy said, which kind of caught Joeri and her father off guard. 'But your parents saved my parents' lives! I am grateful for it, and I think you should be proud of yourself for your parents saving so much lives!' Joeri stammered. 'And that doesn't change the fact that my parents were a part of the group.' Rhy said, trying to stabilize himself. All the guilt and anger and other emotions were climbing up again. 'I don't want to think about it.' he stoned. Others shut up at that. Joeri started to stammer something, but a glare from her father shut her up for sure. When Joeri's mother came back with the refreshments she promised, she immediately noticed the mood change in the room. 'What happened? Is something wrong?' She asked. 'Just don't say anything about my parents, please.' Rhy stoned again. 'O..k..?' Unicy said uneasily. She put down the platter on the tea table in the middle of them. 'So I hear you're going to live with us?' She asked, hoping to ease up the tension. 'No. That's not true.' Rhy answered, trying not to be stiff. He was trying to swallow the pain again. 'I was about to tell you this was all just a misunderstanding. My apologies.' He said, then stood up. 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience. But I don't think it'll work. But thanks for the offer.' Rhy turned, and walked out of the house, while the family behind was trying to comprehend what they've just heard.

Rhy was continuing to walk down the street, hoping he could get to the forest soon and change into his other form. That small talk had made his mind more clogged up than ever. All was a fucking mess. 'Damn my life...' Rhy thought, and turned the last corner that led him out of the town. He changed into his other form, and was just about to fly away when something came running out of the bushes. 'Rh... eeek!' He looked at the thing... person who came out of the bushes, and was not surprised to see Joeri. 'Of course...' Rhy thought, and looked at his friend. He thought... he hoped they were still friends, though. He approached Joeri, who looked at him with fear and fell, trying to walk back, then crawled away from him. 'What do you want?' Rhy growled in a low voice. 'I... I... Please don't kill me!' Joeri yelled in fear. Rhy snorted. Well, at least she didn't know that he was a dragon. He just turned away from her, and walked into the woods. When he thought he was far away, Rhy opened his wings and leapt into the sky.

Landing heavily, Rhy went into his cave and looked for the pack of cigarettes. Not only was all his emotions coming up, but he hadn't had one for a few hours, and now he really wanted one. Yes, it would be bad for his health, but he didn't care. He literally didn't know if he would live the next day anyways. Might as well do whatever pleased him. Pulling out one cigarette from the pack, he lit it up and took a drag. Nicotine worked its magic in a few seconds, sharpening his vision and letting his stress go. The cigarette soon burnt near the filter, so he stomped on the cigarette butt, and put it in the ashtray. He picked up another one, lit it, and looked at the books. A book would be nice. Yes. It would help him out of his emotional ditch.

After a few chapters and a few cigarettes, he looked up from his book and looked at the mouth of the cave where he could see the nice view outside. The sky was glowing orange, indicating that night would come soon. Either he read extremely slowly, or the chapters were long, or he used a lot of time meeting up with Joeri. He closed his book, and went for a glass of wine he always had. He walked out and sat on the edge of the entrance, and just took his time to look at the beautiful sunset. It had been some time since he last saw it, though he literally could see it every evening.

It was just as he remembered. Beautiful.

He wished that this moment could last forever. Everything was so peaceful, and beautiful. He could see the sun slowly setting towards the horizon. Enjoying his drink, which wasn't often as he often drank for the hell of it, he watched the sun go down.
