Part 16 - A Steady Recovery

It's been a few days now since the incident at school. The huge slimy thing that I defeated bare-handed. Mom had taken me to the hospital to find out if I were going to be alright. To her surprise, and mine, I had no major injuries except for a few bruises and I would be able to go to school in just a week. They told me I would just have to rest some to let the exhaustion get out of me and get some energy from resting. And so I did. It's been 5 days now, and I'm bored to death. I'm not allowed to move from my room and I have to stay in bed from my mom. All I could think of was what was going to happen to Silver now. I haven't seen him since the incident. My recovery was going well and it was surprisingly fast. I would've been really happy if I could see him now and then, but he hasn't shown his face here since I got the incident. I'm pretty sure my mom blames him for what happened. I'm a little worried, as I know they like eachother, that this little incident will ruin everything. It's past 4:35 pm now and I really had to go, but I didn't want mom to nag my ears off, so I was going to ask her first. As I neared my door I heard shouting and honestly ... I got scared. My mom's voice rose all the way up to my room and I heard what she yelled very clearly.

"Look! I don't care! Razor got hurt and I don't want him to go through with these classes!" Elena yelled.

"It's bad enough! He's lucky that he doesn't have any serious injuries."

At this point, I got really scared. I pretty much could guess who she was talking to.

"I know you know. He won't attend the classes anymore Silver. That's final." she told him before hanging up the phone.

I looked down knowing it'd be a hard task to make her allow me to join FE again. I was going to try whether she liked it or not. I love FE and I don't want to stop attending those classes. I knew in my heart, it's what I really want. To be able to get stronger ... and protect the ones dear to me. After waiting a few minutes, I went out of my room and headed into the bathroom. I did what I needed to do and left the bathroom to find my mom standing in front of me with a rather angry look. I just blinked and stared at her.

"Um ... hi mom." I said hesitantly.

"Razor, why are you out of bed?" she asked rather annoyed.

"What? I'm not allowed to use the bathroom anymore?" I said annoyed myself.

"Mom, I'm fine! How many times do I have to tell you?"

She sighed and closed her eyes heading downstairs again. I could tell she didn't like it that I told her I was fine in the way I did, but I have to get her to understand that I'm not weak and that I heal fast. Watching her go downstairs, head lowered, I felt guilty as I knew she got hurt by the way I spoke to her. Sighing I followed her downstairs and found her sitting on the couch. I went up to her and sat down next to her. Looking from the corner of my eye, I saw her with a sad look and there were signs of tears coming down from her face. All I could do at this point, was trying to calm her down and make her understand.

"Mom ... look, I'm sorry for how I spoke to you, but you got to understand that I'm different than most people." I started.

"I'm not just a wolf, I'm a werewolf mom ... I heal fast."

"I know Razor ... I just don't like you getting hurt." She replied.

"Everytime you get hurt, I get scared that I might lose you."

"That's why I don't want you to go on with these FE classes."

"But mom ..." I tried speaking.

"No buts Razor ... I made my decision." she said.

"You're not attending them anymore ... even if I have to force you not to take them."

"You can't force me!" I yelled.

"I ... I like FE! You can't make me stop taking them!"

"I will follow the courses through to the end! I want to follow them, I want to be able to protect those I care about ... including you."

"Can't you understand? I lost both of my parents cause I couldn't protect them! I ... I don't ... want the same thing to happen again ..."

By now I had my head lowered and tears were running off my cheek. I had lost most I had cared about ... my parents and my little brother. They meant the world to me and then all on one day, I lost them all. I wanted to prevent something similar happening to this family as well.

"I don't want to be all alone again mom ..." I sobbed.

"If I ... lose everything again ... I ..."

"I'd break ..."

My eyes remained closed when I felt mom hug me tight and all I could do was hug her back. I could only hope I managed to convince her that I wanted to go on to protect everyone I hold dear to my heart.

"Razor ... do those classes mean so much to you?" mom asked still hugging me.

"Are you really willing to risk getting hurt so you can be strong?"

"Yes mom, I really will sacrifice my own body if I could use it to protect the ones I love." I replied.

"... ... Fine then ... I'll let you continue with the classes." she sighed.

In my mind I jumped a hole in the ceiling when I heard her say I could continue with the course.

"Really?!" I yelled out of happiness.

"Yes ... on condition." she said seriously.

"Condition? Which one?" I asked tilting my head.

"That you promise me that you'll be careful." she said wiping away a tear.

"That you won't do anything that could risk your life being ended.

"I promise mom. I'll be careful." I said smiling slightly.

I held my mom for just a little longer before giving her a kiss on the cheek.

One week later

It's been yet another week, and I'm finally back at school. Couldn't care less about the other classes I had first on this Tuesday morning, all I cared about was FE class ... again. Walking around, I saw many people looking at me, probably wondering how the heck I recovered so fast. I couldn't care less what they thought, my mind was focused on learning what I could from FE today, so I could practise it and get to be a great fighter. A fighter ... that can protect people. I spent half of the day with Anna and Elize, studying and talking about what I missed during the past 2 weeks. They helped me with my books and tests and I passed pretty much everything they sent at me. Then finally, the hour I had waited for, FE was right now.

"Welcome back everyone, I hope you remember what we did last time, as ... we're going to continue with ..." Silver started and stopped.

"Razor ... you're ... back."

"Yea, I am." I replied.

"Surprised?"

"Yea I am, I thought your mom told you and me that you wouldn't be attending my classes anymore." he said.

"I managed to convince her to let me stay in the course." I answered.

"Well, it's great to have you back." he said smiling.

I merely smiled back and got ready for anything he would teach.

I was confident in myself, confident ... and happy. I could be with the greatest guy I ever met again and I would learn anything from him. I wasn't going to let wounds slow me down, I wouldn't let illness drag me down to the hospital, I wouldn't even let death stop me in my tracks! I ... I would continue ... continue my life to protect those I care about. That ... was my determination, my internal source of power.

I listened carefully to what Silver said about the exercises we were doing and managed to follow everything we did. Even though I missed 2 weeks of FE classes, I still learned everything faster than any of the other students, except Anna, she still learned faster as she did the exercises 2 weeks ago as well.

Class ended too fast again, and I was slightly disappointed as I didn't want it to end just yet.

Before I managed to leave the room, Silver called me.

"Hey Razor, hold on." he said.

"Hm? What's wrong Silver?" I asked.

"Nothing's wrong, it's just ..." he started.

"... well ... are you sure you'll continue my classes? Won't your mom be mad about it?"

"She won't, I convinced her to let me continue." I replied.

"No worries Silver, I'll be fine and I am going to continue."

"I ... see." he smiled.

"Very well, although I should say, be careful."

"The exercises we're going to do from now on are much more difficult than any you've done in the past. And you might want to put a bandage on that cut on your arm."

I looked at my arm and noticed that it indeed was bleeding.

"Hm, didn't even notice that." I said.

"And about the exercises, don't worry. I could keep up with anything you just taught even though I missed 2 weeks."

Silver smiled at me and nodded.

I then closed my eyes and just thought about how everything I learn here could and would protect my new family and friends, I didn't want to die before I could keep them safe.

Right in front of Silver the cut on my arm started to heal, a miracle he would call it, and I didn't even notice the wound healing.

"You ... really are amazing Razor." he said closing his eyes.

"Huh? How so?" I asked tilting my head.

He didn't reply but simply pointed at where the wound was just moments ago.

"Wow. Wasn't there a wound here just a little while ago?" I asked.

"Indeed there was, you just plain heal too fast." he laughed.

I smiled and nodded.

"Well I did recover from my terrible beating in just 2 weeks." I said confident.

"What could a cut do?"

"Right ... well, you'd better get to your next class, don't wanna be too late so you have to catch up on classes again." he said.

"Right away! See you after school Silver!" I yelled running out.

I was happy, happy to be back, and for one thing ... Happy to be a werewolf.

Compared to the rumours and legends of the savage werewolves, I am nothing like them.

Even my dad did not compare to them. Me and my dad, we ... were never lost and always remained calm, never losing control. Never on a hunger for blood, always being like others, eating like others, living like others, even had the same habits.

School kept going on and on and finally it ended after another 3 long boring hours.

I waved goodbye to Anna and Elize and went towards the street when Silver pulled up his car next to the pavement.

"Need a ride home Razor?" Silver asked.

"A ride with you? How can I say no to that!" I yelled happily.

I got in his car and he drove me home.

"Razor ... promise me you'll be careful." Silver suddenly said.

"Huh? Of course I'll be careful. I promised mom too. So ... yeah, I promise Silver." I replied.

"Thanks Razor ..." he said closing his eyes a little bit.
