Only the small part of A long story to come ^^ enjoy

Jack was walking home. It had been a long day for him. As he put his hands in the pockets of his jeans and let out a long breath, Jack wondered if life would ever change. Everyday seemed to be a faded copy of the day before, just as meaningless as the last.

Jack was a kitsune, as his family was, and the family before that was, and as the family before that was, and so on. Though this was normal, as species usually didn't mix and when they did, it was looked down upon. Jack thought it was a little stupid, but also knew that he could never undue centuries of tradition; Nonverbal rules no one had to speak for them to be known by all.

Almost his whole family had bright white fur, but he had silver-like fur turning to black at the tips of his ears and tail. Normally kitsune were known for being large, tall, and proud; someone people looked up too! He certainly didn't have anyone looking up to him. He was the shortest in his class, easily going unnoticed. He had beautiful green eyes, but some people had never even seen them because he avoided eye contact as much as possible with everyone. He was very shy and didn't have any friends he talked with. Everyone thought he was nice and had nothing bad to say except Jack avoided everyone and no one ran after him.

He lived with his mother and was attending the school in their small town. Jack had few fuzzy memories of his father before he disappeared when he was still a kit. His mother always had stories about him, all making him an amazing hero of godly proportions, even saving her life! But every time Jack asked where he was, his mother would cry, so Jack learned to avoid that topic.

Jack strongly shook his head, as if he could remove the thought from his head by force. He went back to his thoughts of change; anything would be nice, even something trivial like a new hairstyle.

Jack was thinking of styling the fur on his head somehow when his ear twitched and he froze in place. His widen eyes darted around as he listened intently. He was sure that he had heard som-

"HELP!!!"

The plea sounded like it came from a woman a few blocks away. He didn't bother thinking, someone was in trouble and he might be able to help. He sprinted, going as fast as he could. As he neared the place where he had heard the cry, he saw a large, pitch black wolf holding a fox with one hand holding her wrists above her heads and the other now over her mouth.

Jack, without any thought, yelled out at the assailant, "Let her go!!"

The wolf quickly turned, snarling, and demanded, "What the hell did you say you runt!"

Jack gulped audibly and said again with much less force behind it, "I s-said l-let her g-go..."

The wolf laughed darkly, looked back at the fox, and said, "Look love," forcing her to look at the small kitsune, "it's your hero, running to your rescue!" gesturing to Jack. "Let's see how brave he is," baring his teeth, "once you don't look so pretty." Her eyes shoot open in fear and she screamed under his hand. He held her firmly under his hand and slowly leaned in to her neck, opening his deathly jaws the whole way.

Jack tightened his hands into tight fists, with his arms pressed into his side, his head down, and eyes wide open trying to think of a way to stop this monster. He had to do something and he had to do it quickly. No he had to do it NOW or she would have her throat ripped out in front of him. He was trembling. He was SCARED. She was going to die. She was going to die because of HIM. If he could only move!

He closed his eyes tight and then...... it was over. Something was different. He heard crying. He waited for the horrid sounds of the wolf biting into her......... but it didn't come.

He slowly opened his eyes to find things weren't as they should be. He was standing in the same spot he was sure. He hadn't moved. But in front of him the fox had slumped down against the wall and was crying into her hands. He slowly turned his head and saw the wolf.

He wasn't standing up.... Didn't look threatening......h-he....he was dead.

Jack stood there for several minutes in pure shook, before he ran over to the fox. Before, he didn't have time to look at her properly. Now could see she was only a little taller than he was and likely just a year older. She was faded red (close to, but not, pink) with a patch of white starting in the middle of her collar bone and disappearing into her shirt. She was quite beautiful in fact.

Jack knelt next to her, hugged her and started to apologize saying, "I-I'm so s-sorry, I couldn't m-move. I wanted to b-but I-"

She hushed him, put her arms around him and whispered in his ear, "You saved my life. Stop saying sorry."

He looked up into her shinning blue eyes, still wet with tears, simply nodded, and put his head back down. They sat like that for a while. Both still in shock from the previous events.

Hours passed but neither noticed. Just happy the other was there. And that they were still there. But it started to turn to dusk and, although they didn't wish too, they knew they had to go home.

They stood up and brushed themselves off. She turned to start walking when Jack suddenly said, "I have two questions. First how did you stop that wolf?" She just stared for a second looking confused. "Me?" she asked, "I didn't do anything. . . . . .You saved me."

Jack cocked his head and said, "How? I never moved. I looked down, shut my eyes, and then.....he was dead."

She replied, "It had to be you, I had my eyes shut tight. Just as his teeth touched my neck," She flinched at the memory, "You yelled, 'Stop!'. Then He was launched away from me. Then I slid down the wall and you came over and started apologizing."

Jack shook his head. "That's not possible. He was so big.... I don't think I could move him, much less lift off the ground."

The fox sighed, "I don't know how you did it. But you saved my life," she smiled, "I know it."

Jack smiled back at her before he went over to the wolf's limp body. He looked closely at the wolf's shoulder. It was burnt to a darker shade of black.

Jack thought he knew how the wolf had died, but it was strange. It looked as if he had been hit by lightning. He looked up but didn't see any clouds. It didn't seem possible, but it would explain where he was and the state of him.

Jack said nothing of discoveries and went back to the fox. She asked, "What were you looking for." Jack Responded, "I wanted to check something. But anyway I have to ask my second question.

She looked at him and smiled and asked cutely, "And what would that be?"

Jack asked her, "I never caught your name?" and realizing he had said his he added, "Mine is Jack by the way." and smiled.

She replied, "Okay, Jack, I'll tell you if you let me give you a present for saving me."

He quickly agreed. She added, "Put out your hands and close your eyes." Which he did.

The mysterious fox leaned in and kissed him quickly on the mouth. Long enough so he could enjoy it but not long enough for him to return it. She said, "That's for saving my life, my hero." She giggled, turned, began to run off.

Jack smiled feeling pretty good but suddenly turned towards where she was running and yelled after her, "Hey! You didn't tell me your name!"

She turned around and yelled, "It's Amber! Don't forget it!!" And with that she was gone.

He stood there in a perfect state of bliss. He had never felt this way before about someone. He thought.... Maybe he was....possibly ... probably . . . in. . . . Love.
