"It's good to be the king"

I found what my master said to most unusual, that what I did next happened almost involuntarily. I shifted my robe slightly, revealing the boxer shorts that had been my only clothing while at the pet shop. While doing this I said, "Aren't you forgetting something master." Returning to conscious thought I found myself not believing what I had just done. The fact that I referred to Entei as master did not bother me, as I had done so for over a week. What bothered me was the fact I had reminded him of that law I found so annoying. While kicking myself for not acting in my best interest, I heard a light chuckle from my master. He stated that that law only applied while I had nothing else to wear. Since I now had a good summer robe this was no longer necessary. With this done, he made several preparations, and departed for his brother's house where he would introduce me to the rest of his family.

While flying to our destination, Master sensed that I was uneasy about meeting more like him, since I had only just warmed to my master. He reassured me that I would find plenty of welcome among his family. His mother and younger sister both thought pets were the cutest, so he advised me to just relax and enjoy their attention. His father had kept a terran when he was younger, so my company would be nostalgic for him. As for his younger brother, while his interest was primarily in centurans, he would still enjoy my company. With this we arrived at his brothers house, which while the same size as Masters house, was of what could be called the neo-classical style as opposed to the log cabin style of my masters house.

He entered the foyer with yours truly on his right arm. The room had a large central area with a ceiling so high that even one as tall as my master would have plenty of overhead. Two curved staircases on each side flanked this central area. Between these were the ones I was to meet. On the far right was his father, who looked very much like my master with the exception of several grey chevron shaped pelages on his face and the fact he was slightly taller. To the left was his mother, who was about the same height as my master and like him had pure white fur. Next to her was Entei's younger sister who in human years would be roughly 12 years old. Finally on the far left was his brother Fenris who had red delta shaped pelages on his face. In his arms was a familiar face, the centauran I had befriended so many weeks earlier. He was dressed in the same manner as I was with a collar and robe that matched his masters.

After pleasantries and introductions were exchanged, his mother and sister took interest in me almost immediately. Having handed me over to them they took turns holding me, playing with my hair, and asking all manner of questions of me. While I found their attention bothersome, I took masters advice and soon found myself relaxing in their arms thinking, "It's good to be the king."

With this out of the way we proceeded to enjoy a dinner that had been prepared for the occasion. I found myself sitting between Fenris and his father. While both struck up conversations with me, most questions came from the father of the two. He described the pet terran he had kept over 200 years ago. From what he told me his pet was very similar to myself with the exception of the fact that his hair was slightly longer than mine. While at first his presence was nerve racking, his pleasant manner quickly put me at ease.

With dinner out of the way the others retired to the living room, upon which I struck up a conversation with Sodar. I first asked him whether his master had given him a new name. He mentioned that Fenris liked his original name so much the he decided to keep it. After giving him my name we moved on to comparing our masters. From what Sodar told me of him, Fenris sounded very much like me Master. Of course since they were brothers, I guess that is to be expected. In any case both he and I had spent many a lazy evening with our respective master asking questions of the Arc Empire and answering questions of our own cultures. Fenris, like Entei, knew the likes of Sodar and rewarded him accordingly. The robe his master had given him was like mine except it was a dark green with elaborate scroll embroidery. While looking at his collar, that was identical to mine he mentioned something about it that my Master must have over looked. The lining was cloned from a sample of the respective masters fur. His master had told him that this served two purposes. First on a species such as myself, it made the collar more comfortable. Secondly in both of our cases the fur was a symbolic presence of our masters, which would always be with us.

After this he pulled out a deck of playing cards and asked what games I liked. We spent the rest of the evening playing various games starting with poker and blackjack and ending with a variant of rummy that I had often played with my grandfather. The evening passed quickly and when my Master returned and said it was time to leave I was quite reluctant to. He assured me that I would be seeing Sodar again and with this the two of us said our goodbyes and my Master and I left for home.
