#1 of The Disappearance

This is a short story I wrote a long time ago, back when I was 14 years old. I re-read it and saw some openings for improvement and decided to rewrite it and make it not only better but longer. I also plan to make a Chapter 2 to it, maybe a Chapter 3. I don't know. If people enjoy this revised version of the story, I'll post the original story. Hope you guys enjoy!

((PLEASE keep in mind that this rewritten version is much different from the original and only states some the same events, explained with more details. The name Kevin Night and Luke the dog are a part of the original, however, the names of the ex-wife and the daughter were added. Kevin Night's story was originally VERY short and written with very little detail. I wanted to improve it. This is entirely fictional and made by me. Any names and events were created with pure fiction.))

CHAPTER 1: KEVIN NIGHT

It was a Friday night, I just got home from the SkyHour Nightclub at around 1:43 a.m. I was out with my friends. We may have had a few too many drinks, yes. But I know what I saw. I was asleep in my bed when I was woken up by a strange knock at my front door. I got out of my bed and rubbed my eyes while walking to the door; meanwhile, I kept thinking, "Who the hell is knocking at my door this late?? Isn't the community's gates locked up right now?" As I got to the door, I leaned over and looked out my peephole. No one. So I opened up my door and shouted, "Hello??" And in return, no answer. I decided to head back to bed.

A little later, I felt a rush of cold air and opened my eyes, then sat up. Luke, my dog, woke up as well and started barking at the bedroom door.

"What is it, boy?" I asked.

As I turned my gaze towards the bedroom door, which was wide open as it normally is, I saw this strange mist, almost like a smoke machine they use at clubs, just flowing around. I felt frozen like I couldn't move. I know I was still heavily drunk, but I know I wasn't dreaming. What I am seeing is definitely real because I could feel it. The cloudy mist stayed around for a little longer before it rushed at me, phasing through my body with a loud whoosh before it disappeared. I placed my hand on my chest and coughed, my entire body feeling numb and cold. That's all I remember.

A week has passed and it's been extra quiet since that night. I've decided to keep a journal to record all my thoughts and record the events as they happened. Of course, not all has been peaceful... My ex-wife and my daughter Sarah were planning to come over for a visit. I had to get things ready.

As I was cleaning, I felt a rush of cold run right past me. I recognized this feeling immediately. Out of nowhere, I heard rattling coming from my kitchen cabinets. As I turned around, I saw the cabinets open up and dishes started flying at me. Plates, cups, silverware. Everything. I was able to duck behind the kitchen island and hid until it was over...

After a couple of minutes, I heard the woosh sound again and looked around. Shattered glass and ceramics were scattered around the floor. After these two strange events, I decided to look into the history of the house. Nothing. No sign of any tragedies or anything. The only strange thing was the unsolved disappearance of a resident that lived in the house 10 years ago. Robert Walker. A 34-year-old male who moved to the US from the United Kingdom. It was almost as if he had simply vanished. No signs of relatives or anything.

A few days went by. A silver car pulled up into the driveway and out stepped an adult woman, and on the other side, a young girl who looked like the age 15. This was Kevin's ex-wife and daughter Sarah here for the visit they had planned. When they got up to the door, his ex-wife Tasha had knocked on the door.

"Kevin, open on up! It's Tasha and Sarah!" She shouted.

"Surely he hadn't forgotten that the visit was today..." Tasha thought to herself. With no answer, she knocked again.

"Dad! Come on, open the door!" His daughter shouted.

Tasha scoffed and turned around. As she started to walk away, a dog could be heard barking and running up to the door. "LUKE!!" Sarah shouted with excitement. Luke was heard behind the door, whimpering and barking. "DAD!" Sarah shouted once more, only louder as she grabbed the doorknob and twisted it, the door swinging open and causing Sarah to fly forward and fall on the ground. Luke ran over to her and started licking her. "Hey, boy! I missed you, too!" Sarah said with a giggle. Her mom walked in and looked around with a concerned look on her face...

"Something's not right." Tasha pointed out, "Your father would never leave his door unlocked like this.."

Sarah and her mom looked all around the house. No sign of Kevin. However, Sarah noticed the window in her father's bedroom was wide open. "MOM!" Sarah shouted, causing Tasha to rush to her daughter, noticing the window...

"Did something happen to Dad?" Sarah asked with a worried tone, looking up at her mom.

"I don't know, sweetie." Tasha claimed, "But something is definitely wrong."

Having said that, Tasha pulled out her cell phone and dialed 911. Tasha walked into the other room while Sarah noticed Luke run over to the bed and laid down next to a journal, barking. Sarah walked over and picked up the Journal before opening it.

"This is Dad's handwriting," she stated in a quiet tone.

Ten minutes later, the police showed up.

"Sarah! I need you to come out here to help me talk to the police!" her mom shouted.

"Coming!" Sarah replied.

Sarah put the journal in her backpack. She couldn't finish reading it all since there was so much, but she knew the police wouldn't believe a word of it if they read it. Besides, if her dad was really gone, it's the only thing she would have to remember him by.

Sarah ran outside, with Luke following her. While answering the police's questions, officers were searching the house for clues.

What happened to Kevin Night? With no new evidence other than it looking like he had just up and left in the middle of the night, the police had to close the case. Sarah, on the other hand, decided to start her own investigation.....

To Be Continued.
