#3 of Hatchlings

A Story of a family of a dragon

'You guys all set?' Dehious asked. 'Yes.' Said his mate, and the hatchlings, paying no mind, just continued to wrestle with each other. 'Ok! Let's go!' Dehious said enthusiastically, and turned to the hatchlings. 'Tasin? Lee? Edward? Green? Let's go!' he said, and broke up the ongoing wrestle. They whined, as usual when they got broken up, but obeyed their father and climbed up on top of their parents. The family soon got moving.

'So where are we going again? You haven't told me.' Aidey questioned. Dehious didn't tell her or anyone about that matter. He knew Aidey hadn't seen the ocean for a long time, and he wanted to surprise her. And the hatchlings didn't see the ocean since they were born. So this was probably going to be a great time. 'You'll see when we get there.' Dehious said, smirking. Aidey huffed. What was with all this secrecy?

They followed the wind, and about 4 hours later and a few short rests for the hatchlings, they were at their destination. Dehious laughed at his mate's reaction. 'The ocean was this close?' She exclaimed. 'I can't believe it! How did you know about this place?' 'I asked a co-worker at the dealership. Not many know about this place, except for a few who always comes here.' 'I should've known we were going to the beach when you started to pack snacks and the mat...' 'Yup.' 'Did we bring any water, though? I don't think I've seen you pack water.'

'...Crap.'

So the family went to the near store to buy some water. While Dehious was looking for the cheapest bottles of water he could find, Aidey continuously teased and poked him about him being clumsy. While his mate was continuing to tease him, he checked out of the store and the family headed once again to the beach. The couple let their bags down under a tree and walked over to the water. The hatchlings followed, but stopped and looked at the water uneasily. Obviously, they were afraid, seeing the ocean for the first time.

'Come on, Tasin and Edward! Let's play! Don't be afraid of the ocean!' Dehious yelled. The two looked at the ocean uneasily, but then a look of 'Fuck it' crossed Tasin's face, and she literally jumped into the water. With instinct, she swam towards her father. Edward soon followed after. Dehious looked at Lee and Green, and looking back and forth at their siblings and father, they followed as well.

Dehious and Aidey waited until their hatchlings were swimming well enough, and when they were, splashed at them. Tasin growled, while Edward and Green looked surprised, and Lee whined. The parents laughed at them. But the laughter was short-lived as Tasin swam over to them and splashed water at their faces. Now it was the parents' turn to look stunned while Tasin squeak-laughed. 'Oh, it's on!' Dehious growled playfully, while Aidey smirked deviously beside him.

And so the 'get each other as wet as possible' contest started. The Tasin, Edward, Lee, and Green teamed up, and the parents teamed up with each other. The two teams poured as much water as they can to the other, and soon both were soaked in the salty water. The parents stopped when they saw their hatchlings starting to tire out. 'Come on, kids.' Aidey said, and started to wade out of the water. Dehious followed behind the kids, making sure that none of them were getting too exhausted or getting out of the line. Surprisingly, none of the hatchlings whined this time. Apparently they really did get exhausted.

Once they were out of the water, Aidey rummaged through the snacks Dehious brought while the family shook off the water, and pulled out some beef jerkies. At the sight of the jerkies, before Aidey had any time to react, they jumped up and snatched the jerkies in her paws. Aidey got surprised at the sudden action, and Dehious, seeing her reaction, laughed out loud. To which Aidey shot a death glare, of course. Dehious stopped laughing as soon as he met her eyes, gulped, and quickly rummaged through the bag and pulled out the bottles of water. He opened one in front of the hatchlings, and passed one to his mate while he himself opened one. He gulped down the water. He was thirsty from all the action, after all.

Tasin, Green, Edward and Lee chomped down on the jerkies, and gulped down the water. Of course after that, they got sleepy once again. They curled up on each other, and soon were fast asleep. 'They really are growing, aren't they?' Dehious said, looking at the kids. 'Yeah. They've got quite big in the last few months. I hope they would soon fly, though. They're really getting heavy now.' 'Agreed.' Then Dehious walked back to the bag again and rummaged through it once more. 'Aha!' he exclaimed when he found what he was looking for. He pulled out the item, which revealed to be iced beer, which has melted, but not all the way, making it ice-cold beer. 'Want some?' He said, offering a bottle. 'Why yes!' Aidey said enthusiastically, accepting the bottle. She pulled the lid off when a thought hit her. 'Wait. So you remembered to ice these beer while you didn't remember to pack up any water?' She exclaimed. Dehious looked surprised, in the middle of drinking his beer, then looked at her with wide, innocent eyes, which didn't faze his mate one bit.

'Umm... Yes..?' Dehious said uneasily, after he downed the bottle in one gulp. 'You have just got to be kidding me...' Aidey said, facepalming. 'Apparently I'm a mate to someone who remembers to pack beers but not water...' 'Hey, but you like alcohol too, so I don't think that's fair? You getting drunk was how we met up, right?' 'You really have to bring that up? You know I can't refute to that!' 'That's exactly the point.' Dehious said, grinning widely. 'Urgh.' Aidey said, facepalming once again. 'You're never going to let that down, are you?' she asked. 'Nope. Not until you hate alcohol, which I'm sure will never happen in a million years.' Dehious said, still grinning deviously. 'Anyways, want another bottle?'

~~~~~~~~
The sun was setting now. The hatchlings woke up after their parents both had downed 4 bottles, and either started digging in the sand or ran over into the ocean to play again. While Aidey played with Lee and Tasin in the water, Dehious played with Green and Edward, helping them build a dam near the water. Once, Tasin was out of the water, and sniffed at the empty bottles of beer and tried to drink it. Of course the parents were freaked out and quickly took the bottle away from her, which caused her whine in disappointment. Lee somehow managed to bury himself in the sand, and whined, to which Tasin ran over and poured more sand on top of him. And all the while, Dehious, who was supposed to look after them, was sleeping under the sun.
'It was a long day, wasn't it?' Dehious asked, to his mate who was flying beside him. 'Still, I had fun. You? I'm pretty sure the kids had fun as well. I've never seen them so energetic!' 'It was good for me, too. Yeah. I'm pretty sure they had fun as well. We're going to come here often, right?' 'Well, as long as the weather is good and you and the hatchlings are up for it...' Dehious said. They could now see their house not too far away. They soon landed in their front yard, and the hatchlings climbed down their parents and walked towards the door, yawning. The parents were tired as well, but they still helped their kids wash themselves, then washed themselves, as well. 'Hey, do you mind if I go out? I have an appointment with my friends.' Dehious said, after they'd done dealing with the aftermath. 'Friends? You never mentioned them to me. Which kinds of friends are they?' Aidey asked, curious. 'Well, my old friends from my high school years and dragons who lived near me when we weren't still mates. They're good friends. We just don't see each other a lot, that's all.' 'Well, if that's the case, yeah. It's your day after all.' Aidey said, to which Dehious yelped in happiness and nuzzled his mate. 'Love you! I'll see you later!' he said, and almost literally ran out the house. 'Just don't be too late!' Aidey yelled after her mate, but the front door was already closing and she could hear him flapping away. 'Hopefully he doesn't get into trouble...' she said to herself, and went to the couch and started listening to music.
It was well past midnight when Dehious stumbled into the door. Normally, Aidey would've been pissed at him for coming home so late, but it was her mate's day, so she decided to forgive him. 'Whhy aren't YOu sleeeeping, my looove?' Dehious slurred. 'Waiting for you, of course.' Aidey said, half laughing and half serious. 'You drank a lot, I see.' She added, scanning her mate. 'Nooo. I diiid nottt.' Her mate slurred. Then he stumbled over to her and suddenely nuzzled her and wrapped his wing around her. 'III lovee yooou.' He slurred. Aidey's face wrinkled at the alcoholic smell from her mate, but didn't mention it. 'You looove me too, righhht?' Her mate added. 'Of course, I do, Dehious.' Aidey said. 'But I think you should sleep. You're quite drunk.' 'Can III Just Have another beeer?' Dehious asked. Aidey thought for a minute. It was his day, sure, but he was already quite drunk. 'Sorry, love. No can do. You're already drunk, and I really think you should go to sleep.' She answered. 'NOOOO! But I waaant anotherr drinkkk... Pretty Pleaseee?' Dehious said, trying to make puppy eyes for her. He failed quite miserably at that, as he was so drunk that he couldn't move his muscles properly. Also, that made Aidey laugh her ass off. 'Come. Let's get you to bed.' She said, finally being able to stop her laughter. 'Noooooo...' Dehious said, and sat down. 'Not until I get another drinkkkk.' Then he pouted.
Aidey sighed. 'So this is what they say...' she thought. 'About having another hatchling in your hands when you marry...' She pushed her mate up, and pushed him into their room and on their bed. 'Now, be a good dragon and go to sleep.' Aidey ordered, a third of her wanthing to laugh, another wanting to be angry, and the last kind of doubting her decision of giving her mate his day. 'Nooooo...' Her mate said, but soon enough, he was sprawled on his bed, snoring away. 'At least he's asleep...' She thought, and turned off the lights in the house and curled up next to her mate. 'Hopefully he won't be so hungover tomorrow...'
Oh, how she was wrong.
