~~~~~~~~~ June's hips swayed from side to side as she made her way through the crowded bar. There was a haze in the air that dimmed the dusty lighting, giving the patrons a washed out sort of look. She sauntered around a table of caribou. Construction workers fresh off the job site judging by the hard hats hanging off the backs of their chairs and the all around dirty, dusty demeanor of the crew. She could feel their eyes upon her backside, soaking in her curves and the way her short tail flicked to and fro with each step.
She knew she looked good, she always looked good and doubly so tonight. She was wearing her husband's favorite dress, the scarlet satin hugged every curve and left nothing to the imagination. Harry would be disappointed that he didn't get to see her wearing it tonight, but tonight wasn't for him. Tonight was all about her and she was hungry for the hunt.
A smile lit up her face as she finally caught sight of her girlfriends. Giselle the gazelle was leaning on the table, her hand in the air waving at June. June picked up the pace, gracefully making her way to the table.
"About time you showed up." said Kora. The lioness glanced up from her mug.
"We were starting to wonder if we were at the wrong place." added Giselle.
"Oh shush, I'm barely late at all. I ran into someone in the parking lot. Real nice guy, just not my type. You know how it is." said Jane as she slid into the booth, placing her handbag between her feet. She raised a hand and gave a quick nod to the server. "So, what have I missed?"
"Not much. Leon is out of town on business for the week, so it's been pleasantly quiet." said Kora before tipping her head back and downing the dregs in her mug. With a satisfied sigh she set the mug back down and added, "You should come by tomorrow, watch a movie or something."
"That sounds like a nice idea, I think I will" said June. She smiled as the server approached their table. "Hi, hun, I'll have a Rum Runner"
"Refill." Said Kora as she raised her mug.
"Sure thing, I'll be right back, ladies." The server stuffed her pencil back into her pouch and then turned to leave.
"Well I just got off a 14 hour shift and I am utterly exhausted."
"That's your own fault for going into nursing, Giselle. I warned you that it wasn't worth the pay" said June as she scanned her eyes over the nearby tables.
"What are you so dressed up for anyway, June?" asked Kora, glaring at June through narrowed eyes. Giselle looked the hippo over as though seeing her for the first time tonight.
Giselle gasped, "No, no you are not. Not tonight, June!"
"Oh shush," June waved the back of her hand towards the two women.
"Harry is going to kill you!" Giselle frantically whispered. Kora crossed her arms and sat back in the seat.
"You just don't learn do you? Well, what are you looking for tonight?" she purred.
"No, shush, stop encouraging her!" groaned Giselle. "She gets into plenty of trouble all on her own without you helping her."
Kora shrugged, "She's going to do it whether we help her or not. Might as well have fun with it. So, what's it going to be tonight? In the mood for venison?" she asked as she tilted her head towards the table of caribou.
June shook her head, "No, too easy."
"Oh ho," Kora raised an eyebrow. "Looking for a hunt tonight then."
Giselle put her hand over her eyes. "What ended up happening with the last one you took home, the otter?"
"Hmm? Oh, well as far as I know he made it to the river and then swam off. Harry was in a right foul mood so I'm pretty sure he didn't catch him."
Giselle looked positively green. Kora pointed to a rhino up at the bar. "What about him? Business suit, so he probably makes good money. Seems to be alone."
June looked him up and down. He was sharply dressed, Kora had a point, but she could see the tale-tell signs of graying around his horns. "Not young enough. I may as well just go home and sleep with Harry."
"Why are you even still married to him? Seems like you're out prowling around for a new piece of ass every weekend." Kora grinned as the server set down a full mug in front of her. She grasped it with both paws, tipped it back and greedily took a swig. June looked on in disgust as Kora licked the last remnants of foam from her lips.
"Harry and I are still very much in love, hun. Love and lust are two very different things and I have an appetite that no individual man will ever be able to sate." June leaned against the back of the booth, closed her eyes and sighed, "Nothing beats the thrill of the hunt." Kora locked eyes with Giselle and gave a resigned shake of her head. "Besides," June continued, "as big of an act as Harry puts on each time, I know he enjoys being able to reclaim what he feels is rightfully his."
"Don't you... you know, feel bad about what happens to these guys you bring home?"
June's tail twitched in irritation as she tilted her head to stare at Giselle. "It's a dog-eat-dog world, Giselle. We're all just doing what we have to do to get some sort of happiness out of this city. Besides," she cast her gaze out over the bar, "most of them are in and out before Harry even realizes it anyway. Only the unlucky ones get caught." She pulled her handbag out from under her seat, slid out of the booth and pushed herself up from the edge of the table. "If you'll excuse me." She tossed the strap of her handbag over her shoulder and flipped her hair back.
She could feel the eyes of almost every guy glued to her backside as she made her way to the bar counter. Reaching an empty stool, she turned it around so that the back was against the bar. She hiked her dress up just enough to allow her to slid up onto the stool, legs spread so she could straddle the backrest, her tail swishing slowly over the front of the seat. She could practically feel the heat smoldering from the eyes of the nearby patrons, hungrily taking in the sight of her now exposed upper thighs, teasing the view they so desperately wanted. She signaled to the bar keeper.
"I'll take another Rum Runner, please." The bar keeper nodded, wiping down the counter in front of her with a damp rag.
"Sure thing, Miss." he said as he stashed the rag back beneath the counter.
June turned slightly to regard the young alligator sitting beside her. His olive colored scales reflected the dim overhead light, casting a translucent sheen over his exposed hide. His muscles rippled underneath his thin cotton t-shirt with every move he made. He was young, early 20's at best and obviously cared a great deal about his body. He moved with the easy grace of someone used to reigning in their strength.
June cleared her throat. "Sorry to bother you, sir, but I must know. Are you a dancer by any chance?"
The alligator turned towards her, with an eyebrow raised. He regarded her silently for a moment. June felt the desire to shift in her seat under his scrutiny. Stay still, confidence is key, she reminded herself. A slight smile broke out upon the gator's face, clearly showing the sharp dazzling teeth.
"I have been known to... perform," he answered. "Why do you ask?"
"Just a hunch," she hastily replied. "My name is June, by the way. Pleasure to meet you, I don't think I've seen you around here before."
"Hmm, I go by Andrien. I live fairly close by, though I usually frequent a different bar." He took a drink from his beer. "Had a bit of a falling out with a fellow there last week though. Thought I'd give this one a try for a change."
"Well I'm glad you came here tonight then." June smiled. "Would have made for a rather boring evening otherwise." She leaned back as though to stretch, allowing her dress to inch up just a bit more.
Andrien's eyes darted down to the hem that was now barely covering her. "I suppose you're here looking for... entertainment then?" He dragged his eyes back up her body and then turned to the television behind the bar.
June cast him a curious look. Most of the men she went after tended not to play hard to get, but if Andrien wanted to play then so be it. "Isn't everyone?" she asked as she leaned closer to him.
His eyes were still locked onto the tv as he watched a recording of a car chase on the local news station. June placed her hand upon his thigh, she could feel him tense beneath her touch as a blush spread up his neck. He cleared his throat and turned back towards her.
"I'm flattered, truly," he uttered through a slight smile. "but I fear you aren't quite my type." June snatched her hand back as though burnt. Andrien laughed slightly. "Please, don't take offense. I suppose I was rather... vague earlier." He smiled. Rolling his shoulders, he leaned back on his stool. "I'm an exotic dancer at the Cockpit down the street."
"Oh, OH!" June laughed. "Sorry to have wasted your time."
"Oh not at all," he tipped his head forward. "It was... entertaining." He smiled as he turned back to the tv. June sighed and looked around. She could always go after one of those caribou, but that wasn't really what she was wanting tonight. She slowly scanned the bar, her eyes settling at the end of the counter where a young wolf sat, hunched over.
Odd, he must have come in while she was talking with the alligator because she certainly didn't remember seeing him earlier. He was young, probably even younger than Andrien, and certainly looked a bit rough around the edges.
He seemed to have had a rough night so far, probably one of many judging from the state of him. Even so, he was still handsome. She watched as he drummed his claws upon the counter as he placed his order with the bar keeper. He kept his head low, as though weary.
Curiosity nagged at June's insides. Usually she didn't much care to get to know her partners. They tended not to be around for very long, so what was the point? Yet here she was, thoroughly intrigued by this young wolf. She slid off her stool, straightened her dress and slung her handbag back over her shoulder.
As she began to make her way over towards the far end of the counter she felt fingers close around her wrist. "Excuse me, miss." came a grumbled voice from behind her. "Can I buy you a drink?"
June turned to face the stout grizzly that had ensnared her as she had passed by his table. She twisted her arm free and grimaced as she said, "No thank you." As she turned back towards the wolf she caught sight of the grizzly's friend patting him reassuringly on the shoulder.
She picked up her pace to avoid any further hold ups. The later in the evening, the grabbier the patrons tended to get. She confidently placed a hand on the back of the wolf's stool as she swung into the empty seat beside him. She set her bag underneath her stool and glanced at the small shot glass before the wolf. She leaned over, smiled and said, "May I buy you a drink?"
