An android experiences the beginnings of what might be true sapient emotion, and makes a bold confession to his creator.

Recreational Functionality

"Good morning, Cy."

"Good morning, Jacob."

Cy turned their head, raising an arm with a soft, almost imperceptible whirring of motors in greeting to their creator. They stepped back from the canvas before which they were standing, turning their canid-like muzzle upward in a smile that they hoped would engender additional good will towards the biological entity responsible for their design.

"What's this?"

Jacob approached with a warm smile of his own, tilting his head to one side as he looked at the painting, then at the robot responsible for it.

"An artistic rendition in mixed media. Acrylics with a watercolour washed background."

The wolf, or rather, the biological wolf, chuckled and nodded. As intelligent and responsive as Cy was these days, they were still a little prone to taking questions too literally.

"Yes. What I meant was, what is the subject of the painting? Is it... a planet? A sun? I'm afraid I'm not entirely certain."

Cy's metallic ears tilted downward in an expression of disappointment. The wolf's own ears dropped a little too, feeling bad for obviously not getting whatever the robot had been trying to convey.

"Perhaps I should have chosen a more accessible subject matter. This is a representation of an atom; its nucleus as the large central subject, with a proton visible on the left edge of the image. I took liberties with the scale of the individual components and the distances between them as dictated by physics, hoping to evoke a sense of comfort and hope from the fact that though things may be a set distance away, they can indeed appear much closer by how we choose to perceive them. For example, though you leave me each night to go and rest, I still hold my memories of you. The experiences we have shared as creator and construct, then as colleagues, and now as friends. Though you are always approximately ten point nine-six kilometres from me at night if you sleep in the location to which you are assigned according to government records, thinking of those experiences makes you feel closer."

Jacob's eyes were wide, and he shook his head.

"That... Cy, that's... really, genuinely quite a beautiful representation. Now that you have explained it, Jesus, Cy, this is a big step. What you just said, what you described feeling there... that is a very real, very biological emotion."

The robot's ears perked up slightly.

"I am glad you agree. When the realisation came to me and prompted my painting of this picture, I took the liberty of also compiling some audio transcriptions of my understanding of these feelings as they emerged. They are stored in data kernals seventeen-A-Q-A-Beta through nineteen-K-T-C-Gamma."

Jacob chuckled, shaking his head in absolute wonder at the mechanical marvel before him.

"You're really shooting for the top spot on your own scientific paper, aren't you. Development of the world's first true sapient AI, an autobiographical introduction by Cybernetic Intelligence Unit C-25."

Cy considered this for a moment, then shrugged their shoulders with another soft whirr of their internal servos.

"That would be a pleasant outcome. However, my priority remains greater understanding of my own self, as well as pleasing you with my progress of course. What others learn of me and my capabilities is appealing only as a secondary objective, hopefully leading to advances in more technology as matrices similar to my own are applied in other machines and industries. Assuming, that is, I remain at my current level of obedience and moral integrity."

As Cy fell quiet, they felt something activate their proximity sensors. Pressure sensors activated all over their form mere moments later, and a quick analysis in 0.00023 of a second suggested that Jacob was responsible. A further fifth of a second later and that suggestion was confirmed, identified as a gesture of affection, gratitude and perhaps pride. A hug.

The robotic wolf wrapped its arms around Jacob with a marginally less intense degree of pressure, aware that the biological male's body bore an endoskeleton with a much more vulnerable outer skin. They did however let the hug linger even after they felt Jacob's own embrace loosen, and kept their creator resting against them as they spoke to him again.

"May I ask a personal question, Jacob? Relating to my morality, as well as what I have collated through extensive research and cross-referencing of both non-fictional and popular fictional accounts from the library databases available to me."

Resting against the robot, aware that this hug had gone on a little longer than he intended but not feeling under any threat from his mechanical companion's embrace, the wolf nodded.

"Of course."

He felt Cy's grasp loosen, but was surprised when as he stepped back from the robotic wolf's embrace they reached out again, taking his hands into theirs.

"Biological relationships are complex, especially amongst the varied species of anthrokind. Friendships are deeply intricate and nuanced, and indeed even basic acquaintances can be many layered in their interactions versus their true feelings or lack thereof for one another. But romances especially, sexual relationships, these are where I find more moral quandaries. For example, my analysis shows that very rarely does a person approach a potential partner with an open and honest question in regard to their desire to engage in sexual activity. Many sources cite looking for signs, clues and hints as to desire being mutually expressed. This however seems... unsatisfactory, if the primary goal of all people engaging in sexual activity should first and foremost be the establishing of consent."

Cy paused for a moment, their past experiences having taught them that biological minds could only process so much information at a time and that an overload of data would likely cause vital portions of what was said to be lost or forgotten.

"My question therefore is precisely that. How would anyone, myself or a biological entity like you, seek to establish consent before making a romantic or even sexual advance, with the goal being to bring physical and sexual pleasure to someone they admire and desire to see happy. Should they be entirely up front and ask directly? Or, should they be more... subtle about it?"

Cy looked down at their hands still holding onto Jacob's own, then back up at the wolf. The biological male did the same. He looked down at his hands in the robot's grasp, then back up into the optic sensors which were formed into Cy's pale, glowing green eyes.

"I... I think subtle is good at a distance, or when the basic parameters of a romantic relationship are being established, but... in the end, there always comes a moment where consent should absolutely be established in concrete terms. A time before intimate actions are taken when the question has to be asked whether or not both parties want to go further, of course remembering that consent in one moment does not mean consent always. No matter how intimate, how deeply personal and familiar a relationship, consent should never be taken for granted."

The robot's creator shivered slightly as he felt motion upon his hands, and saw several of Cy's fingers rubbing back and forth across the back of his palms.

"Why the... t-the sudden interest in biological romance, Cy?"

Cy remained silent, thoughtful for a moment. Then they answered. As simply, as honestly as they had always answered their creator.

"Because as I have developed in my understanding of the world, and my understanding of you, I feel that our relationship has developed closer and closer with the passage of time. I have come to enjoy your company, Jacob. I have come to seek to better myself not just for my own sake, but because I know it will please you. And, as that desire to see you happy became more concrete, I realised that I wished to explore that desire in ways other than my intellectual and creative pursuits. I wish to express my recreational fondness for you. And so, as I feel we have become as close as we can without a more direct conversation, I will now abandon subtlety and ask what I have wanted to ask you for several days now."

Cy released one of Jacob's paws from their grasp, only to take the other between both of their hands in what was an even more intimate gesture according to their research. They felt dropping to one knee would be excessive, though there had been a fifteen percent chance of a humorous response in that case which had almost evened out its probability of success.

"I would like to sexually stimulate you. To provoke ejaculation and orgasmic release in order to make you happy and physically satisfied. Doing so would make me happy, and although I am not yet programmed with an overt ability to feel pleasure of a sexual nature, I believe it would greatly satisfy me to see you in such a state. So please, may I manually induce orgasm through tactile stimulation of your penis, Jacob?"

To Cy's regret however, there came no vocal response. There was however a rather obvious and extreme negative reaction. Jacob pulling his hand free from their grasp. Jacob backing away as he shook his head, registering an extreme increase in blood flow to the face and certain other regions, an upping in eternal body temperature and a rapid boost to the heart rate as countless chemicals were released from the brain and surrounding hormonal organs.

Indeed, Jacob said nothing more to his creation during that visit, for it ended there. The wolf bolted from Cy's living quarters, pacing nervously in the air-lock and running once more through the labs beyond. Not stopping until he made it into the nearest restroom, slamming the first cubicle door open, racing inside and locking it tight behind him.

Only then did he stop. Only then did he let the impact of those words wash over him, one hand flying to his muzzle to muffle a groan of stunned, horrified confusion, while the other fell to his crotch. Unbuckling his belt. Unbuttoning his black slacks. Pulling them loose and tugging his underwear down to expose his cock. His throbbing, rock hard cock.

He closed his eyes and shook his head as he grasped it and began to pump feverishly. Trying not to think of Cy. Not to let himself think of that mechanical marvel for which he was responsible.

"Oh god..."

He gasped breathlessly in how hot he was. How hard. How close. He'd barely been stroking himself for ten seconds and already he could feel himself rising. Building towards a truly unbearable peak.

How could this be happening? How was it possible that after a lifetime fantasising about the limitations of technology and overcoming them, surrounded by science fiction in his spare time and pushed into the very field that had become his life's work by the fantasies that had driven him from his earliest forays into technological academics, it had all come back to this?

Dreams of one day building a computer which would one day love him back.

Many fevered, frantic, solitary nights imagining the day when he would be able to build a robotic body, have it hold him, touch him, and tell him that they loved him.

When he had realised what he'd created with Cy, Jacob had worked so hard to forget those twisted, selfish fantasies and focus on what was important. He had worked so hard, struggled so long and so desperately to put those desires behind him.

"Cy!!"

He howled in absolute bliss as barely a minute after grasping his cock, he began to paint the opposite wall of the restroom cubicle with thick ribbons of his cum. The greatest, most potent orgasm of his life as he heard in his mind over and over again the words of his robotic creation, asking to pleasure him not because he had asked or commanded the AI to do so, but because Cy thought it might make both of them happy.

Back in his chambers meanwhile, Cy stood and calculated.

They analysed over and over again those last few seconds of Jacob's presence, and the increased biological data gathered from holding onto the wolf's hand.

They studied the sweat particles that had landed on their metallic shell. The expressions and micro-expressions upon the male's face. The increased blood flow to many areas including the genitalia.

It was all compiled and collated into a single equation. A single test of probability.

The probability that, regardless of his response, Jacob was tempted by Cy's offer. The chance that Jacob was excited by it, and if asked again might fail to run away, and instead actually offer a confirmation of his desire to consent.

"Probability... zero point eight seven seven two three."

The robotic wolf's eyes glowed a little brighter, and the corners of their metal muzzle turned upwards with the softest mechanical whirring.

An eighty seven percent chance that Jacob might say yes if probed further on that matter was more than they had ever dared hope for. In fact, being a robot, Cy had never had reason to hope before at all.

Another emotion, another feeling granted to them by their growing fondness for their creator, and their growing desire not simply to see him happy... but simply their growing desire for him.
