The next morning, Gideon sat up in his bed, stretching a bit before climbing up out of it. Gathering up some of his clothes from his dresser, the fox headed for the bathroom for his shower. Several minutes later, the fox emerged, refreshed and clean, and made his way downstairs. As he entered the living room, he saw his mother watching the news and his father looking at a newspaper. "Mornin' Mama. Mornin' Papa."

Tyler looked up from his paper with a smile. "Mornin'. Did ya sleep alright, Gid?"

"Ah slept pretty good," he replied. "Tryin' ta decide on what Ah wanna do today. Ah might go over ta Travis' place ta hang out fer a bit. Ah think Ah'm gonna probably go next door first though, so Ah can introduce mahself ta the new neighbors."

Amanda turned to look at the kit. "I think that's a wonderful idea, sweetie. And I'm sure they'd love to meet you."

Gideon nodded. "Ah'm gonna make mahself some cereal first, then Ah'll head over there."

Tyler chuckled. "Go on then."

Gideon nodded and made his way into the kitchen, pulling a box of cereal down from one of the cabinets. He sat down once he got the bowl of cereal and began eating. As he ate, his cell gave a text notification and he pulled it out.

The text was from Travis. "Hey. Dad just left to head to the clinic. If you wanna come over later, I'm probably just gonna stay at the house."

Gideon texted back. "I'll be there after I say hello to the neighbors. Mama said they're foxes like me, so I wanna meet 'em."

A reply came back from the ferret. "Good plan. See you later?"

"Yup. See ya, Travis." Gideon slid his phone back into his pocket and resumed eating. When he finished, he stood, rinsed his bowl and spoon, and put them in the dishwasher. He then made his way back into the living room.

"Full now, Gid," his dad asked.

"Fer the time bein', yeah." Gideon walked over to his mother and father, hugging them both. "Ah'm gonna go next door now."

Amanda looked at him and nodded. "Go ahead. Just be your usual sweet self, and I'm sure they'll love you."

Gideon nodded. "Ah will, Mama. Love ya."

"We love you too, Gideon," Amanda replied.

Gideon then headed for the door, opening it and stepping outside, feeling a gentle breeze hit his fur. He walked to the end of the street, crossing at the crosswalk, before making his way over to the door and knocking.

"One moment," came a female's voice from behind the door. A few seconds later, the door opened and a female fox was seen, wearing a light purple dress. "Oh! Hello there, young man."

"Hello, ma'am. Ah'm sorry if Ah'm interruptin' somethin'."

The female shook her head. "Not at all. How can I help you?"

"Mah name's Gideon Grey, ma'am. Ah saw yer movin' van last night, and Ah just wanted ta introduce mahself."

"Well, thank you, Gideon," the female said, as a smile formed on her face. "I'm Ada Cooper, and it's a pleasure to meet you."

"The pleasure's mine, Mrs. Cooper," the young kit replied.

Ada stepped aside. "Would you like to come in? My son Alizar is playing games in the living room, if you'd like to say hello."

"Ah'd like that. Thank ya," Gideon stepped in.

Ada closed the door and led Gideon into the living room, where a young fox, looking to be about thirteen was seen playing a game, while sitting on the floor near the TV. "Alizar? There's someone here to meet you, sweetie."

The fox paused the game he was playing and stood, putting the controller down and walking over to where Gideon and Ada were. The kit had a bit of a belly on him, much like Gideon's, but a bit bigger. "Hey."

"Hey there, Alizar. Nice ta meet ya. Ah'm Gideon Grey," he replied, offering his paw.

Alizar took the paw and shook it. "Nice to meet you too," he said.

"What game were ya playin'," Gideon asked.

"Oh! Heh... just a racing game is all," Alizar replied. "Wanna play?"

"Ah'd like that. Ah'm not the best at 'em, but Ah still enjoy 'em," Gideon told him.

Alizar nodded and walked over to where he was sitting, grabbing the controller again. He then indicated another one, which Gideon then picked up after sitting down. Alizar then backed out of the race, switching over to two player mode. "You wanna pick the first track?"

Gideon chuckled. "Sure, why not?" Gideon looked through the tracks and settled on one that appeared to be along a beach. "Okay if we start here?"

Alizar nodded. "Fine with me." He then started up the track. It didn't take long before the older kit pulled into the lead.

Gideon was able to keep up, but never managed to get past him, finishing the race about ten seconds behind. "Dang..."

"I've had a lot of practice with the game," Alizar told him.

"Ah see that," Gideon replied. "Pick another one. Ah'll beat ya eventually."

Alizar chuckled. He then started up a mountainside track.

As that race began, Gideon still found that he was having trouble with the track, but noticed that Alizar seemed to have trouble with it too, as the younger kit was able to pull ahead more than once through the course of the race.

Alizar and Gideon had a much closer race that time. Alizar still won but it was only by about a second.

"Almost had ya that time," Gideon replied with a smirk.

"Wanna do that one again," Alizar asked.

Gideon shrugged. "Sure. Why not."

Alizar nodded and started up the race again. He had just as much trouble with it this time, and this time it resulted in Gideon winning the race.

"Told ya I'd beat ya if we kept playin'," Gideon remarked with a smirk.

"Yeah, ya did," Alizar replied. "Let's try another one."

Gideon nodded and turned his attention back to the game.

The two of them played on various courses for quite some time. Their playing was only interrupted when the front door was heard opening, and the sound of an older male was heard.

"I'm home," the male's voice called out.

Alizar paused the game. "Hang on a sec, Gideon." He then stood and walked over to the older male, another fox. "Hey dad."

The fox smiled and ruffled Alizar's headfur. "Hey. You keeping out of trouble?"

Alizar snickered. "Just racing with a new friend." He indicated Gideon.

Gideon then stood and walked over, offering his paw. "Mah name's Gideon, sir. Gideon Grey. Ah live just across the street."

The elder fox took his paw and shook it. "It's very nice to meet you, young man. I'm Alton."

"Nice ta meet ya too, sir," Gideon replied.

"Glad to see you've made a new friend already," Alton remarked as he turned back to his son.

Right then, Gideon looked toward a clock on the wall. "Dang... Ah didn't realize how long we've been racin'."

"You gotta go, Gideon," Alizar asked.

"Nah, but Ah need ta give mah Mama and Papa a call at least, ta let 'em know Ah'm still over here."

Alizar nodded. "Go ahead."

Gideon pulled his cell from his pocket and called his house.

Amanda's voice was heard on the other end. "Everything okay, Gideon?"

"Ah'm fine, Mama. Just callin' ta check in. Ah lost track of time playin' games with Alizar."

"Having a good time then," Amanda asked.

"Ah am. He's a lot of fun ta hang out with," Gid told her.

"That's wonderful," she gave a soft chuckle. "Thank you for checking in. You go ahead and go back to your friend. Have fun."

"Okay, Mama. Love ya," Gideon replied.

"Love you too. Bye, sweetie."

"Bye, Mama." Gideon then hung up, turning to look back toward Alizar, who was sitting on the floor waiting. He walked over and sat back down.

"Everything alright," Alizar asked him.

"Yeah. Mama just said fer me ta have fun."

"Well then, did you wanna continue?"

Gideon nodded. "Sure. Ah wanna beat ya again."

Alizar gave a laugh. "We'll see about that, Gid."

With that, the two of them went right back to the video game. Though Alizar did win a few at the start, it seemed Gideon was getting the hang of things too, as he started winning the races much more frequently.

Sometime later, the voice of Alizar's father was heard. "Boys, are you hungry?"

Alizar paused the race the two boys were on, looking to his father. "I can always eat, Dad. You know that."

"Ah wouldn't mind somethin' ta eat mahself, sir," Gideon added.

Alton chuckled. "Go on in the kitchen then. Made some burgers for you boys."

Right then, Alizar's belly gave a loud growl. "Heh... Sounds good, Dad." He then stood. "Thanks."

The two kits made their way into the kitchen to see a platter with some burger patties on it as well as several buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and several different condiments. They then started putting together their burgers.

While doing so, Gideon's cell rang. He looked at the display, chuckled, then answered it. "Hey, Travis!"

"Hey. You still busy with your neighbors," the ferret asked.

"Ah was racin' with their son, Alizar. Ah'm sittin' down ta some lunch," Gideon told him.

"Oh! Heh... Sorry for interrupting then," Travis replied.

"Nah. It's okay."

Alizar gave Gideon a nudge then.

"Uhh... hang on a sec, Travis." He then looked to Alizar. "Yeah?"

"You can invite him over if you want. I don't think mom and dad will mind. As you already found out, they want me meeting other furs anyway."

"Oh! Yeah, okay." He returned his attention to the phone. "Alizar said you could come over if ya wanted ta."

"Uhh... Yeah, okay. Be there in a few minutes then," Travis remarked.

"Alright. See ya when ya get here. Bye fer now."

"Bye, Gid." Travis then hung up.

Gideon pocketed his phone again. "Ya sure ya won't get in trouble?"

Alizar shook his head. "It's fine, Gideon. Really. I could always use another friend."

"Well, if yer sure..." He turned his attention back to the food, finishing assembling his burger before taking a big bite out of it. "Mmm."

"Glad you approve, Gideon," came Alton's voice again.

"It's very good, sir. Thank ya," Gideon smiled.

"You're very welcome," Alton replied.

"I invited another of his friends over, Dad," Alizar told him, after finishing a bite.

"That's fine. I made plenty of burgers anyway."

Alizar nodded. He then turned to Gideon. "See?"

Gideon swallowed another bite of burger and nodded.

Alton chuckled as well, making his way back into the living room. As he did, there was a knock on the door. When he opened it, Travis was standing there. "Hello, young man."

"Hello, sir," the ferret said.

"Guessing you're Gideon's friend then?"

He nodded. "Yes, sir. Travis Bailey."

"Well then, Travis, please come in. Gideon is in the kitchen. You're welcome to a burger, if you'd like."

Travis nodded. "Thank you, sir." He stepped inside.

"You're quite welcome, Travis. Kitchen's right in here." He gestured toward it.

Travis headed toward it. When he did, he saw Gideon and waved. "Hey, Gid."

Gideon just waved because his mouth was full.

Alizar looked to Travis. "Hey. I'm Alizar."

"Nice to meet you, Alizar. Thanks for having me over."

"You're welcome," the kit replied. "Go ahead. Make yourself a burger."

Travis nodded and started putting together a burger before taking a bite of it. "Delicious."

"Alton is a very good cook," came the voice of Ada.

"I can tell," Travis said after swallowing the bite. "And hello, ma'am."

"Hello there. Travis, was it?"

He nodded. "That's right, ma'am."

"My my... You and your friend are so polite," the female remarked.

Gideon looked to Ada. "Travis and Ah have both been taught ta be respectful and kind ta someone who has invited us into their home."

"I see," Ada replied. "Well, you and your friend Travis are welcome here anytime."

"Thank ya very much," Gideon said after finishing the burger he was working on. "Very kind of ya."

"Oh, it's my pleasure, young man." She walked over to the fridge, opening it up and pouring herself some tea. "By the way, if either of you are thirsty, we have tea and a couple different sodas."

"Thank ya, ma'am. I'm fine fer now," Gideon commented.

"Me too, but thank you," Travis added.

Ada took a sip of tea and nodded.

Once the three of them had finished their burgers, Gideon, Travis and Alizar headed back into the living room.

"Your parents are really nice, Alizar," Travis commented as they sat down.

The older kit nodded. "They take good care of me."

"Well, we try to anyway," Alton remarked as he entered the living room. He then walked over, sitting down in a recliner.

"What do you mean, sir," Travis asked.

Alizar looked at Travis. "I'm adopted."

Both Gideon and Travis looked at each other then looked at Alizar.

"That's okay," Gideon commented. "What's important is that they love ya, and take care of ya."

"And they do. Like I said, they've taken very good care of me. They have since the day they adopted me a couple years ago."

Gideon nodded. "That's good ta hear. And by the looks of things, yer pretty happy here too."

Alizar nodded. "I am. I spent quite a long time in an orphanage before they adopted me, and since then, I feel like I have a family again. I feel loved and cared about."

"We moved here because some friends of ours live around here," Alton told them.

"Well, that's not the ONLY reason," Alizar chimed in. "But it's a big one."

"Hey, if it means Ah have a new friend ta hang out with, Ah'm glad fer it," Gideon commented. "Ah've been havin a lot of fun hangin' out with ya today, Alizar."

"Speaking of which, you feel like playing some more games? We can take turns with the races. Loser swaps out?" Alizar looked to Gideon.

"Ah'm okay with that. Though, Ah think since Ah've been racin' with ya since Ah got here, Ah'll let Travis go first." Gideon then turned to Travis. "Maybe you'll have better luck with racin' him. Yer always winnin' when we play at yer house."

Travis snickered then nodded. "Alright, sure. Why not? I left a text message to let dad know where I was, so I'm free to stick around until he gets home..." He then looked to Alton and Ada. "Provided that's alright with the two of you, of course."

"Certainly, Travis. You're welcome to stay as long as you'd like," Ada told him.

"Thank you, ma'am." Travis turned to Alizar. "Let's race."

With that, Alizar and Travis turned their attention to the game and a race was picked. Unlike with Gideon's first race, Travis was able to keep up with and eventually pass Alizar. Several times during the race, the two went back and forth. Eventually, the race finished with Travis winning.

"Ah knew you'd beat him." Gideon smiled. He then looked at Alizar. "He's the reason Ah always have trouble with 'em. He kicks mah butt all the time with 'em."

Alizar snickered. "Well then, I guess I'm giving up the controller. Here ya go, Gideon. Guess I'll just wait until the next race ends and take it back from you."

"We'll see who yer takin' the controller from. Ah ain't givin' it up without a fight."

"Well then, Gid..." Travis turned to the TV. "Pick your race."

Gideon did exactly that and the two started their race. As they raced, Travis pulled into an early lead, but, primarily because of the time he'd spent racing with Alizar, the fox quickly caught up and passed the ferret, having done so only seconds before crossing the finish line. "Ah can't believe Ah actually beat ya..."

"I can... you were over here all morning," Travis commented. "You had more time to learn the tracks to this game. That's kinda how I always ended up beating you. With me having the game at my house, I spend a lot of time practicing on the tracks."

"Ah guess that makes sense," Gideon commented.

"Anyway, I guess I'm passing the controller off this time," Travis said, handing it to Alizar.

The racing continued for several hours, trading off as they lost, before the boys were interrupted by Travis' cell going off. Pausing the race they were on, Travis then answered it, seeing it was from his dad. "Hey dad."

"Hey. You having fun with your new friend," Charles asked him.

"Yeah. Are you home already?"

"Already? Travis, I told you I'd be home around six tonight," Charles' voice replied.

Travis then looked up at the clock, seeing the time was about six fifteen. "Wow... Heh.. Guess I lost track of time."

Charles laughed. "No big deal. I brought pizza, assuming you haven't had dinner yet."

"Mmm..." Travis rubbed his belly. "Pizza sounds good, Dad. I'll head home."

"Heh, alright, kiddo. But remember to thank Alizar and his parents for letting you stay."

"I will. Love you."

"Love you too, kiddo. See you when you get home. Bye."

Travis then hung up. "I need to get going. Dad brought pizza home." He then turned to look to Ada and Alton, who had been watching the boys racing. "Thank you for having me over, Mr and Mrs Cooper."

"It was a pleasure having you, Travis," Ada replied. "Best get going. Don't want to keep your father waiting."

"No, ma'am. I don't. Have a good night." He then turned to Alizar. "And thank you for letting me race with you, Alizar. That was fun."

Alizar chuckled. "Yeah. It was. See you later, Travis."

Gideon looked to Alizar. "Ah think Ah should probably head home myself. Ah dunno when Mama and Papa are gonna have dinner ready."

Alizar nodded. "Maybe the three of us can hang out again tomorrow."

"I wouldn't mind," the ferret told him.

"Ah'd be okay with that mahself." Gideon turned to the two elder foxes. "And thank ya fer havin' me, and fer lettin' me play games with yer son. Ah hope ya both have a nice night. Oh, and Alizar?"

The kit looked to him. "Yeah, Gid?"

"This was a lot of fun. Ah'll see ya tomorrow?"

Alizar nodded. "Count on it, Gideon. Good night."

"G'night." Gideon commented as he and Travis both left.

Travis then walked Gideon back across the street, giving him a hug. "See you tomorrow."

"Yup. Now go on. Scoot. Go enjoy yer pizza." The fox made shooing motions and watched as his ferret friend walked down the street, only going inside to have his own dinner after Travis was out of sight.
