#7 of Joey's New School

Pain... Guilt... Regret... All of these things went through his head. How could he have done that to him? His love was always so innocent, never looking at anyone else. He had done it now. What was Joey feeling now; alone, betrayed, or in the depths of hell? We had been together for such a short time, but it had felt like an eternity. Maybe this was what it was like to have a soul mate? But he didn't deserve a soul mate. He had broken Joey's trust by cheating on him, whether it was intentional or not.

He could have stopped Jerry immediately, no, he should have. The pleasure was nothing compared to the depth of regret he felt now. If he could not have Joey back what was there to live for? He had lived more in that short week than in his entire life. Just being with Joey was pure ecstasy.

Nick made a decision then and there. He would find Joey and convince him to give him another chance. If Joey refused then he would never bother Joey again. He didn't want to inflict pain on him anymore, and he was sure if Joey felt anything about him that his presence would just be troublesome. It's been two days since Joey had ran off, but Nick didn't lose hope, he knew it would take time to get over the pain. Though missing school worried Nick, he hoped he would come back or at least return home where they could talk about what happened, so he waited.

*************************************************************************************

Joey opened his eyes slowly, not remembering where he was. He was not home, that much was for certain. The room he occupied was furnished quite lavishly. The bed he rested on, had a very nice Victorian style canopy with the curtains drawn all the way around. Privacy seemed good as Joey slowly started to think about what had happened last night. Remembering what had happened seemed to hurt his mind further, so he let it slowly seep into his mind. Quick flashes showed him his boyfriend and the mouse together, himself not excepting it and running away. The last thing he remembered was a shadowy figure over him, and then he hoped that he would never awaken again.

Joey Pushed the curtains apart revealing a very strange bedroom. Dolls lay around the room, most were the expensive dolls that were more for ornamental reasons than for actual play. The room had a feel of childhood around it though. A small vanity was in one corner and a tea table seemed to occupy the middle of the room. Sitting around the table were several stuffed animals and dolls. The most unusual of which was a haggard looking stuffed wolf. It had several stains along its fur but it was in the largest chair at the head of the table.

If he had to guess he would assume it was a child's favorite toy. It was silver-grey in color, with coal black eyes, though one was missing, it was dressed in a pair of blue jeans. The jeans had seen better days, they had numerous tears and rips all though out the material and they still seemed to match the abused doll. There was a calmness about the doll, like it had lived though and entire childhood and was the memory of how tough growing up cold be. Maybe that's how Nick is feeling, no stop that, I can't think about him right now.

Shaking his head, he slowly got to his feet and walked across the room, feeling a rumble in his belly, he felt pangs of hunger stabbing at him relentlessly. Ignoring them easily he slipped through the doorway into the bulk of the house to look around and was astonished at what he saw. He was in a huge mansion, as far as he could tell anyway. There were hallways going both ways for quite a distance and he was at the top of a set of a huge grand staircase. There was even a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling that sparkled in the light like a hundred fireflies burning brightly.

Beautiful was the only word that could come to mind from the whole place. There seemed to be something lacking though, there was an older beauty in the mansion, one that he had never seen before. Everything was old but had a story to tell. Like the faded walls that had to have stood for at least a hundred years and the old electric lights that seemed to run through the place providing minimal light, but kept everything in enough shadow, so as to not see all the flaws. Engulfed in the presence of the place, Joey was totally oblivious to the approaching footsteps from behind him. It was not until he got a tap on his shoulder that he even knew there was someone else there.

Gasping, he turned around a little too quickly, earning his rump hard contact with the floor. Surprised by being interrupted with his inspection he looked up at this new interloper, expecting some of the quality of the mansion to be within the owner. He was sadly mistaken when he looked up to see a poor excuse for a Malamute. The poor thing was definitely underweight, rib bones were quite visible in his chest and he had a very frail look about him. Deep bags sat under his eyes making him look far older than he probably was. Tufts of grayish-white hair seemed to be untamed atop his head.

The only redeemable quality about him seemed to be his eyes. One was blue while the other was brown, but they showed a kindness beyond anything Joey had ever seen before. He looked deeply into them and knew that he could trust this kind soul with anything and he would not have to worry about him hurting him. Astonished by the eyes he took quite some time to notice the paw in front of his face offering to help him up. Shaking his head in annoyance at his delayed reaction, he took the hand and was pulled up with much more strength than he thought the Malamute would have had.

"Um... Hi... I guess you helped me out back there... I really appreciate it..." stammered Joey. He was surprised as the malamute just turned around and headed down the stairway, confused, he followed. He continued to be led through the house until he reached a kitchen which had two cups of steaming hot tea sitting on the table. The tea cups looked as ornamental as the rest of the house, probably worth quite a bit of money.

"You have been asleep for forty-eight hours", the malamute calmly stated.

"Thank you for helping me...um... what is your name...?", asked Joey.

"You may call me Yesod, and it is no problem. You seemed like you needed some help, what exactly caused you to be in such a situation?" asked Yesod. Yesod's voice was very soothing; it relaxed Joey by just listening to it. It did not sound authoritative, nor weak, but somewhere in between, calming Joey instantly and making him feel warm inside. Looking around the room while he took a sip of his tea he noticed something. On every available wall there were pictures, some of various furs and some of what could have been the host in better days, but the majority were of a human woman.

"Well I was having some relationship problems and I just couldn't take it," somberly replied Joey. Intrigued by the picture of the woman he took a closer look. She had shoulder length brown hair and beautiful brown eyes that seemed to sparkle. In every picture he could find her in she was always smiling, and her visage seemed alive, she just seemed so full of life and happiness it was almost contagious. The pictures just looked so real Joey caught himself almost trying to crack a smile. Shaking his head slightly he looked away from the pictures to try to concentrate more on Yesod.

"Well... yes all relationships have problems. It is the nature for them to have problems, but it is worth it to try to find your soul mate," Yesod said stoically.

"How would you know if you found your soul mate", asked Joey. He had been wondering this himself, he never been in a relationship before so he didn't want to just think Nick was his soul mate. He knew he was desperate for love and he did not want that the interrupt his senses so that he would not be able to tell.

"Oh you will know... It is impossible not to know, that person will make you happy by just being around you. You will not even need to speak or touch and your day will be brightened by their presence. And believe me if you ever find such a one, do not let them go, no matter what", Yesod stated. He had raised his voice and his face seemed to take on a desperate look. It was strange he seemed sad for a second before he composed himself and looked back down on Joey.

"I know this because I used to have a soul mate, her name was Krystal, and she was the most beautiful woman alive. Her smile would always brighten my day no matter how bad it was. Her eyes were hypnotizing and so full of sympathy, I could tell her anything and I knew that it would be ok. She always told me just the right things to make it all right. It was just impossible not to love her, then she was taken from me after only two months of marriage. It was the worst day of my life and to this day, I have still not recovered, I rarely even go out of this house, the last place I was with her.

As Yesod, was talking he gently reached over on a cabinet and grabbed a standing picture frame of the human that was everywhere in the room. He gently rubbed a claw along the pictures cheek as a single tear glistened down his fur for a second before being absorbed into the fur. He looked back up to Joey and wiped the tear from his eye.

"She was taken from me by bigots who thought that humans and furs should not be together. They did not care that we were in love just that a human would dare try to marry a fur. She was out shopping for some groceries when some local furs grabbed her and dragged her to a nearby alley where they poured gasoline on her and set her on fire. THEY LAUGHED WHILE THEY WATCHED HER SCREAM AND BURN IN AGONY! So listen to me closely, I know what will happen to you if you leave him, and trust me, you don't want that. I brought you here to protect you from those bastards! They will kill you if given the chance, and I don't ever want to see that happen." said Yesod.

Yesod shook for a moment, then seemed to compose himself, letting loose more moisture into his fur. Joey couldn't believe what he had just heard. He knew that the furs around her did not like humans much, but to be so cruel as to kill one just because she was in love with a fur, and in such a horrible way. It was horrendous, he just could not think that way, hate was an ugly monster.

Joey drooped his head a little, thinking about what had happened to poor Krystal. It seems that prejudice is everywhere, was there no end to it? Was there even a reason to try to work things out? It would only end in pain, it seemed all good things ended in pain. And as much as he was hurting right now he would never wish the same fate on Nick as Yesod had faced.

"I have seen you with your soul mate, it does not matter what his sex is, if he is your soul mate you will know. Being away from him will tear you apart on the inside, but being together will get you torn apart on the outside. The cops, furs themselves, could never find the culprits that had committed the heinous crime. The criminals faked sympathy, but ignored anything I would say to try to help in the investigation. The case has been open for twenty years and no one has worked on it after the first week. As I said before, be careful, do not let them keep you and your mate apart, but do not let them hurt you either", somberly stated Yesod.

Joey snapped his head back up, "But he cheated on me... I caught him... I just do not know what to do... It hurts so much just to think about it."

"It will hurt if you love him, have you found out his side of the story? Have you tried to talk about it?"

"No... I ran... I just did not want to believe it."

"Well I think that you have run enough... do not let it end like mine and Krystal's love did. You still have a chance... try to work it out. Even if the pain is bad, it will pale in comparison to what it feels like if you can never see him again, let me assure you that."

Joey nods, "maybe I should go talk to him... as you said it will only get worse if I never see him again."

"Yes... now come with me I'll give you a ride there."

"I do not know what to say... You took care of me I... thank you." replied Joey.

"Forget about it... you have let me almost see my Krystal one last time and that is payment alone, now come with me to my car and I'll take you there." Before Yesod went towards his car he slowly reached over and brushed some of Joey's hair out of his face. Joey blushed and stood up and followed Yesod to the car.

Once they got to the garage Joey was aw struck at the site of such a huge car in front of him.

"Wow, that's a big Cadillac Yesod."

Yesod smiled, "it's a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado and it was my wife's birthday present, I wanted to get her something that she would never forget, the only problem was she had to move from a small Toyota to a big Cadillac, needless to say, there were problems for the first month, then she got the hang of parking it," Yesod's smile slowly fades, "until she died," Yesod starts walking over to the driver's side door of the car with his head down and a sad expression of his face.

Joey's smile fades as well, "Yesod, did you get married on her birthday?"

Yesod stopped and looked back at Joey with a halfhearted smile this time, "yes, it couldn't have been a better birthday present for her."

Joey takes his time with this, "I...I wanted to ask you something?"

Yesod cocks his head to the left, "yes, what is it?"

Joey starts twiddling his feet, "if it works out with me and Nick, could we come over for dinner some time?"

Yesod face brightens up again, "you can come over anytime you want."

Joey smiles, "thanks, it means allot to know that there are other furs who care about humans."

Yesod still holds up his smile, "indeed... now let's get you back to where ever Nick is."

They both get in the car without another word and he backs out of the driveway and onto the street. He puts it into drive and lightly steps down on the gas pedal. Joey tells Yesod to go to the school parking lot and to look for Nick's car. Once they reach the school parking lot and the Cadillac pulls up to Nick's car, Yesod looks over to Joey and says softly, "remember these 2 sayings and you will go far, assumptions are the termites of relationships and the most important saying you'll need, Sticks and stones are hard on bones, aimed with angry art, words can sting like anything, but silence breaks the heart." Yesod smiles and opens the door for me, "now go, before it's too late."

I nod, "thank you for all you have done, it may seem strange, but it's something I will never forget." Joey gets out of the car and shuts the door. Yesod takes one last look them drives off. Once Joey can't see the car anymore, he runs up to Nick's car and leans over the hood, contemplating his next move.

*************************************************************************************

Jerry was sitting on a bench in the park, though it was cold so no one was around. He was thinking about his next fun time when suddenly he found himself on the ground. Stunned, he started to stagger to his feet, wondering how he ended up on the ground. Then he noticed a set of shoes in front of him, looking up he saw Nick's face framed with an ugly scowl directed at him. Gulping, he slid to a kneeling position and submissively reached for the lupine's zipper, knowing what he would want.

A snarl stopped his paw before it got half-way to the zipper. He looked up again to see an even more terrifying, if it was possible, visage staring back at him. His eyes filled with fear, and he hoped that Nick wasn't in the mood for something to rough. He knew how to please a man, he had made it a hobby of his, sleeping with anyone available usually any way they like, though he wasn't so much into pain.

"Why?" Jerry was confused by this question. What was Nick talking about... The change in demeanor was very befuddling to the mouse boy.

"Why what? I do not understand what you are talking about. Do you not want me to make you feel better? Am I doing something wrong?" questioned the mouse quietly.

"You knew I had a boyfriend and that I had trouble resisting you, and you still messed it up. I told you that I didn't want to, but you insisted and you ruined everything. I just want to know why you felt you had to destroy my happiness?" the Nick's figure seemed to shake with emotions.

"I... I thought you didn't mind, you never have cared before, and you were always happy to see my muzzle on your cock."

"You are pathetic, I can't believe I ever even let you near me."

Jerry looked down ashamed. He hadn't realized that he had messed up someone's life. He only wanted to feel good and make others feel the same way. Jerry thought about how it would be to have a relationship, with someone who would think about him the way Nick thought about Joey. It must be nice. He looked up to try to apologize to Nick, but he noticed that he was already gone. Sighing, he got up and walked away, his head full of thoughts.

*************************************************************************************

A shadow overlapped Joey and for a split second he was worried one of the bullies had arrived to hurt him for showing up at school again. Then he felt warmth as two furry arms wrapped around him and held him tightly against a furry chest. He turned his head around to see Nick, tears streaming down his fur with a look of utter relief on his face. They said nothing, neither wanting to break the moment or relive any of the memories of pain they had felt.

Nick slowly picked up Joey and put him in his car, then he jumped in the other side and started up the car. He quickly looked over to his passenger seat to make sure he was not hallucinating and that Joey was really in the car with him. He had been worried that Joey might have gotten hurt when he had not come back to school and was relieved that he was fine. He was also worried about how Joey would react to him now... would there still be feelings... or were they going to have to separate mutually to try to dull the pain?

Nick drove to his house and immediately carried Joey up to his bedroom, Joey squirmed at being carried like a child but Nick just tightened his grip not letting go for fear of losing his soul mate again. Yes his soul mate... He knew for a fact that this was what Joey was to him, no matter what anyone else said, they were inseparable, he had been with many before, but none had made him anything like this. They had not even had sex, yet Joey already had so much power over him, there was nothing else that could explain it besides them being destined for each other.

Nick gently laid Joey on his bed and shut the door. He pulled his computer chair over to the side of the bed and just watched Joey. He would watch over Joey forever, and he did not even think that it would bother him. Just staring at Joey was making him happy, that wavy hair, those cute eyes; he could just loose himself in them. He smiled down on Joey thinking nothing except that he hoped that he would find it somewhere in his heart to forgive him.

Joey looked up to Nick confused at first as to what he was doing. Then after studying his eyes, his worry melted away. Joey's eyes were full of concern and pain; he was hurting just as Joey was... Maybe the incident was not totally his fault, he did seem remorseful. But he could not forget it that easily; it would take time for this wound to heal... But it would heal a lot faster with Nick there to comfort him. He reached out for Nick and grabbed his hand pulling him toward the bed.

Nick consented immediately laying on the bed beside Joey and wrapping his arms around him. He laid there for what seemed like hours just listening to Joey breath, until his breathing slowed. Looking down, he noticed that Joey had drifted off to sleep and the he had a smile on his face. Maybe they were not through yet after all. He did not expect Joey to forgive him yet, but at least he did not hate him, so there was still hope. He continued to hold Joey as he slept until he finally drifted off himself thinking only about how he would make it up to Joey.
