Chapter 12
Athena returned to the lair with a blank look on her face. She was back from her mission and went strait to her chamber. She hated herself and despite how much she bathed, she could still smell blood on her body. After hours of trying to get rid of the scent, she gave up and sat on her bed. She knew that Chase's house was under heavy guard. She started to sob at the very thought of Chase. She knew her father probably filled his head full of lies. "He probably told Chase that I just used and tricked him and that destroying his home and neighbors was all my idea." she thought as she sobbed. "Athena father has a new assignment for you." Venus called from the main chamber. The very mention of that dragon made Athena hiss and bare her fangs. She got up and went to get her new assignment. What do I have to do know? She said with distain in her voice. The troops will not be here for another week. Therefore, I will have to guard Chase's house. And you have to go on an assassination mission." Venus said. "How can you just standby and watch him suffer like this? He was your friend as well as mine. You should be trying to save him! How can you be so heartless?" Athena she said coldly. (SMACK) Athena held her muzzle whimpering in pain and took two steps back. "I may be a lot things Athena but heartless is not one them." she hissed. Athena noticed tears flowing from Venus eyes as she spoke. Athena realized that Venus did care and felt horrible for calling her heartless. However, before she could apologize Venus cut her off. "Your target is a human civilian name Nancy." Venus said give her a photo of the human. "Do not underestimate her. She defeated Pyro last time we met and if you are not careful, the same will happen to you. I suggest you use poison weapons. That way you can kill her quickly." Venus said as she took off for Chase's house.
Meanwhile Mira was getting the hang knew her new powers. Things between her and Jaden could not have been better even though their relationship is long distance. While she was training she noticed a small town near a beach. "This beach looks familiar." she thought as she changed back into her vixen form. She then noticed that all the houses were destroyed except for one that seems to be guarded. As she got a better look she realized that the guard was a dragon. Being a kitsune she had a natural fear of dragons. But curiosity got the best of her and she got closer to find out why the dragon was here. She learned two things. The first was that the dragon was a female. And the second was that there was a human scent coming from the house. The she remembered why the beach was so familiar. It was the same beach that was attacked a few months back. "That human must a prisoner. And if he is I should help him get escape." she thought. She snuck around and climbed in. Venus was standing in the front knew she Mira was sneaking but that is what she was hoping for. Mira followed her nose until she found what she was looking for. Chase was sitting in the corner with his knees below his chin. Mira could tell that he had been crying. He was startled when he saw her. "Don't worry I'm going to get you out of here." she said. Chase hesitated at first but he decided to follow her. "If you are going to run away you better do it now." Venus said with her back facing Chase and Mira. Mira was terrified. But Chase wasn't scared at all. "What are you going to do to us?" Chase asked. "My orders are to kill anyone I see and I never disobey orders. Athena has been worried sick about you and don't blame her for what happened she had nothing to do with it. She is in the next town ten miles from here. Now I'm going to turn around and when I do I expect you to be gone." She said. "Thank you Venus." Chase said as he and Mira ran to Mira's car. Athena and Nancy had already started fighting. Athena was using her blade whip and Nancy was using a quarter staff. Nancy knew that Athena had the advantage. Athena attacked again swinging her whip but Nancy blocked it. What she didn't know was that the tip of the blade was covered in poison. She already had several cuts from the whip. As the fight went on she started to feel weak and her reflexes started to slow down. "I see you are starting to feel the effects of my poison. It won't kill you but it will paralyze you from the neck down for three hours." Athena said. "Why are you doing this?" Nancy asked breathing heavily. "I don't have a choice. If I don't kill you someone I love will die. Please forgive me it is nothing personal. If I had a choice I would not even be here right now." She said sadly as she walked towards the weakened human. When she was close enough Nancy hit her right in the ribs with her staff. Athena swung her tail at the human but she caught it. With all her strength Nancy threw Athena across the street and into an active fire hydrant. The impact forced it to snap like a twig. Water sprayed everywhere. Athena was angry now. Her paws started to glow and all the water turned into ice. Nancy couldn't keep her balance and to her knees. Athena made spear out of the ice and started to approach Nancy again. At this point the poison had paralyzed both of her legs and her left arm. Athena was standing right in front of her now with her ice spear aimed at her heart and a cold look in her eyes. As Athena got ready to finish Nancy off she heard a voice. "Athena please stop!" it said. Athena knew that voice there was no mistaking it. When she saw where the voice came from she dropped her spear. Standing right in front of her was Chase. She was filled with joy and fear. I" know you had nothing to do with what happened to me Kira told me that you did but I never believed him. I knew that you would never betray me Athena." Chase said. After hearing this Athena ran to Chase and hugged him tightly. "Chase I was so scared. I thought I would never see you again. I thought that you would hate me." She said holding back tears. I don't hate you and I never will. Athena I love you and that will never change." Chase said. Athena couldn't take it anymore. She broke down into tears and hugged him tighter like her life depended on it. Chase held the sobbing dragoness and couldn't help but she a few tears as well. Their nightmare was finally over. Venus was watching from the clouds. "Like I said to you before Athena. I may be many things but heartless isn't one of them." she thought to herself. To be continued.........
