#15 of Second Chances & New Beginings

Can Daren get his new family, specifically Vivian to let him take part in the operation where he is a critical part of any success that they would face.

I wasn't sure what time it was when I finally began to wake up, but I could sense that I was back in my carseat and the vehicle was moving. I gave a small yawn and looked towards the front where Jack was driving, "How long was I out?" I asked him

"Oh, you're awake, the crew left a radio in your bag for you," He chucked, "At least we don't have to worry about your pants for a while. Melinda was pretty insistent that she take care of your soggy behind while you were still asleep."

At that comment I blushed slightly and looked down at my footpaws, I'd not intended for things to happen the way.

Jack chuckled softly when he saw my reaction, "Don't worry, I think she did a good job, and I think it allowed her to focus on the matter at hand since, after she changed you, she came up with a reasonably effective looking plan that she said can be carried out tonight."

I nodded and then looked over before finding my bag and looking through it, inside I found one of the team's tactical radios, we used them whenever we were on a job, and my tablet. I took a few minutes of my time to quickly check the notes that the device had taken and nodded, "Okay this plan makes a good deal of sense, and she's even made room for the police actions. Now we have to get the police to follow the plan."

"That will be the fun part." Jack stated softly, "I will do what I can to help, though I do suspect that the police will have their own ideas about how to pull something like this off."

"Yeah, that's usually how it is Jack. After all we are talking about the police here, they don't like the idea of working with a group that's always been on the outside of the law." I replied looking over the plan, and I did have to admit that it was pretty much the only way that we could get into the facility and secure Amanda without her getting killed. It required a certain degree of bravery, precising timing, and a rather heavy reliance on my ability to keep the Nails from seeing them and activating their alarms. "I know that you don't like the idea that I am going to be so heavily involved Jack, but I think you can already understand that I am rather vital to this plan having any chance of success."

He nodded softly from where he sat as he drove towards the police station. "I am well aware of that fact Daren, it does bother me but I know that it can't be helped."

I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes as I thought about the people in my crew, even if everything went off perfectly tonight there would still be a pretty good chance that I wouldn't see Melinda, Simon, or Helen for a long time to come... they all had been heavily involved in numerous robberies and society would demand a heavy penance on them for those actions. "I just hope that we can ensure that Amanda will have a safe place to go once all is said and done." I commented quietly.

"About that kitten, how would you feel if she came to live with us?" Jack asked me, his tone of voice telling me that he was serious.

I looked at him before I nodded, "I'd feel better than if she was stuck in the child welfare system." I told him honestly, "I mean she's never seen me like this, but I think she could adapt if given the chance. She's a smart cub and I think she'll understand."

"That's good because that is one thing that Melinda had me promise to her, that we'd take Amanda into our home and give her a new chance at having a family. I also promised all of them that when the time comes I will do my best to represent them in court and try and give them as fair a hearing as I possibly can."

"Thanks daddy," I replied as he pulled the truck to a stop in the parking lot outside of the police station.

"What's she doing here?" Jack asked and I looked around to see who he was talking about, though I couldn't really see what he was worried about before he climbed out and got me free, "Viv what are you doing here? I know you really would rather we weren't here but,"

I finally was able to look past Jack and I saw Vivian standing there with her head slightly cocked. "Jack, I know that what you are doing here is needed, but I also need to spend some time with our cub especially if what I've heard from Chief Nyguen is to be believed." She replied while kneeling down to pick me up, smiling at the black felt fedora I was still wearing.

"This isn't going to be easy, simple, or risk free and you know it Jack. I can't believe that Daren is still caught up in that deadly kind of game."

I looked up into her eyes, "Momma I am trying but I hafta help my friends, I can' leave them out there an' let 'Manda die for nothing." I told her before wiggling free from her arms, "We're gonna let the police know their part of the plan an' get the ball rolling an' then I gonna hafta get some sleep... 'cause I don' wanna be a sleepy cub when we're in the middle of a delicate operation." I told both Jack and Vivian before I dodged around them and headed for the station, I had work to do, and the sooner I took care of that work the quicker I could get the rest I needed so that I could be awake and aware of what was going on around me for the mission in the evening.

I only got as far as the front desk before I was picked up again, this time by Reginald Davies, the weasel that I'd worked with earlier in the morning. "My you're in a hurry kitten, you seem to have forgotten you bag."

I looked down before growling at my own forgetfulness. "Dang, I knew I was forgetting something." I commented as Vivian and Jack came in through the front door, Jack was carrying my bag and my hat, that had fallen from my head as I'd wiggled from Vivian's arms.

"I think that you forgot something kitten," He remarked before gently settling the had back on my head. "I know that you're in a hurry to make sure the police know their part in this operation, but Vivian does have a point."

"I know she has a point Jack, but at the same time if I am not involved in this I know for a fact that Amanda, Melinda, Helen, and Simon will most likely die and the Nailheads will not have suffered any damage to their goals or ambitions." I replied evenly, though I did feel like growling it out loud. "I want to be done with this as much as she does but in order for that to happen I have to do this one more time."

"You don't need to convince me of that fact Daren, I am fully aware of that." Jack said before Vivian spoke up.

"Why can't you show somebody what to do Daren?" she asked softly and I could see the worry in her green eyes.

I indicated to Reg to pass me over to her and as soon as I was settled in her arms I finally spoke, "Vivian... momma, I need to do this because while Reg is skilled he doesn't know the ins and outs of my system the way I do, furthermore he doesn't have the team bond with my team like I do. I am intimately aware of what each member is able to do under pressure." I leaned forwards against her chest, feeling her breasts pressing against my own small chest. "We each have a part to play in the events that are fast approaching us, what we do during those events will truly show what kind of person we are." I stated calmly.

Vivian nodded slightly, "I know I just don't like the idea of my new cub being out there in a dangerous environment where people will probably get killed, that's no place for a cub who looks like he's not even half a decade old."

"Momma!" I complained since I was well aware that my body was older than what she'd claimed I looked like.

Jack laughed softly and rested a hand on my back. "You have to admit that you do appear to be fairly young and sometimes you act the way that you appear."

I nodded, conceding that in part, what he said was, for the most part, true. "I know what I look like now, but the fact also remains that I need to do this to ensure the survival of my friends and the rescue of a child who really is an innocent."

"This will be the last time, Daren, the last time till you're an adult again. I don't want you involved in stuff like this again while you're a cub." Vivian said firmly while looking down into my eyes.

I nodded, "Momma I don' wanna do this again, I am tired of it. I mean I know I have talents an' abilities that are useful to the police, but I don' ever wanna hafta be involved like I am now."

Reginald spoke up at that point. "He is speaking the truth ma'am, his talents would be invaluable to us here, however we don't want to ever risk him the way he's willing to risk himself."

"Can he not teach you how to do what he does?" Vivian asked softly.

"Ma'am that would require time that we don't have today, and some of what he does is so far ahead of what I am able to do myself that it would take less time if he were to do it himself." Reginald stated softly, before his Chief came over.

"Ma'am I am aware of how you feel about this whole matter, and if it makes you feel any better I would rather he wasn't involved. However, under current circumstances and the obviously limited amount of time that we have we must do all that we can to ensure that whatever has been planned will succeed with as few casualties as possible."

I felt Vivian nod slightly before she let me down to my paws and Jack handed my bag to me. "Okay, I am trusting you, bring my cub back to me, alive, and unharmed." She stated, though I saw a hint of steel in her green eyes.

The chief nodded before taking my hand and we headed to a large room where I began to brief all of the officers in the room as to the part that they had to play in the coming mission. I also had to outline logistical considerations such as how close the comm. van had to be to ensure that I would be able to do my job properly.

After more than two hours of briefings I was already beginning to feel more than a little worn out and hungry. Embarrassingly at the end of the last briefing, mainly to the SWAT units that would be involved I'd found that I was in need of a change... and not the kind of change that was quick, easy, or even inconspicuous.

Vivian was more than happy to accommodate that need of mine, though as soon as she finished with the nasty details and I was once more in a clean diaper she proceeded to remove her top and get me to nurse at her breast, though as soon as I started I felt myself beginning to relax and give in to the fatigue from the day so far.
