Now that he knows about his enemy can he convince the chief to let the Shadows do what they do best.

I wasn't sure how much longer it took me, but eventually I got into the Nailheads system and I was surprised that their security system was network attached. I had full access to all of their security cameras and a full map of their base of operations.

"Damned they may be paranoid, but they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed," I remarked as I perused the layout of their base of operations. I spent a goodly amount of time going over the layout of the facility before finally backed out of their system, but not before leaving behind one of my own custom backdoors so that I wouldn't have to hack my way back in.

Davies was watching me as I looked up and flashed him my toothiest grin, "Learn anything new?"

He blinked softly and the sighed. "You are something else Daren." He said softly, "I've been doing this for more than two decades and yet here you are making me look like an amateur."

I shrugged my shoulders, "I've always been good with computers and if anything, it was one of the few things that my father encouraged me to do, and it kept me out of his hair." I said softly

"I take it that Jack isn't related to you at all?" Davies asked me.

"Yeah, but he cares about me a lot more than the drunken lout that got my mother pregnant ever did." I stated before checking the battery and finding that in the time that I'd been using it plugged in that it had fully charged. "Do you mind if it?"

"By all means, after all it was originally yours, though I would remind you to refrain from using those applications that you were just using now."

I gave a small laugh and nodded, "Yeah I don't really think that I will have much use for most of them after we get this matter all cleared up." I told him with a smile, "Now where's the case? I never used this thing without a case." I told him looking around before he handed both the case and the shoulder bag for it to me.

I'd just left the office when the chief came up to me and cocked his head. "How are we doing?"

I looked up at him a flashed a grin, "Well I have all the intel that we need, but I will need to get the rest of the Shadows on board and a basic plan worked out, and to do that I need to meet with Mel."

He shook his head, "Give me the information and I will pass it on to SWAT and they will take it from there."

"Listen, this isn't going to be a simple op." I told him, "I've read every piece of information that the Nailheads have and one of them is that they will kill Amanda if they so much as see a cop, and your SWAT teams aren't what I'd call stealthy. They are more along the lines of a blunt instrument like sledgehammer where this is a situation that calls for something more akin to a scalpel. You need something a bit more covert to at lease secure Amanda, before going in, and even then, it is very likely that somebody that isn't a Nailhead will die." I stated bluntly, my white and black striped tail twitching behind me.

"So, you think that I would trust your crew to be able to affect that child's release? You must have smoked way too much before you thought up that plan."

"Listen," I caught myself growling, "Just because we aren't a legal group doesn't mean that we don't possess skills which when applied properly, can be just as effective as those that you possess here. There is also the fact that we have a rather more personal connection to Amanda O'Shea than you could ever possibly achieve and that gives us motivation." I told him. "Let us do our part, and afterwards we will turn ourselves over to your care... but Amanda needs a safe place to go."

He looked at me and I could see the light of respect in his eyes, I knew that he didn't agree with our methodology and our previous goals, but under the circumstances he knew that he needed the help of the Shadows. "Can you assure us of that?"

"I can't be one hundred percent sure of anything, but under current circumstances it is the best that I can promise sir." I told him as I spotted Jack and dashed over to him, "Hiya Daddy!" I shouted before hugging him around the waist tightly.

"Hello kitten, I managed to swing that reduction that you and the police want." He said tiredly. "You ready for lunch?"

"Yeah, an I need ta make some calls... police station not really best place ta make those calls." I said looking up into his eyes.

Jack nodded and then looked at the chief before nodding. "It is a bit late for lunch and after that I think it would be best for Daren to get some rest, he's been going at it for hours."

"He's really driven, and I would warn you that when he gets a plan in his head, he doesn't stop." The old wolf said.

"Yes, my experience with him says that even though he always seemed a bit lost, he also did have some elements of his personality that knew what he was doing."

The wolf chuckled, "What time do you think that you will be back? We need to get this all sorted out and get everybody involved briefed."

I smiled as Jack had picked me up and was holding me gently. "Uh how about at five this afternoon? Gives me time ta get the Shadows on board an' a plan working. We don' take so much time ta get things going cause right now there are only four of us, if ya count me." I answered him, "That should get you enough time ta get everybody briefed. If we do this right we should be able ta pull this off tonight, though it will need ta be late... or rather early tomorrow morning."

"Tonight?" Was his surprised answer, "I was thinking in a couple of days once we get approval and..."

I laughed a little and then looked into his eyes, "I told you, we move fast when we have to, I'll provide the intel and overwatch for my team," I sighed softly, "I want this part of my life to be over an' done with so that I can go home ta my new family and forget all of this." I said resting my head against Jack's shoulder.

Jack softly patted my back. "Chief regardless of what he was before I know what he is on the inside, and I can tell that he's tired of trying to keep going on as he has before."

I was slightly surprised when I felt another hand on my back and the Chief's voice said softly. "We'll get this all sorted out so you can go home and enjoy your life Daren without worrying about it coming back to haunt you."

"Thank you," I answered and I actually chuckled a bit because my stomach took that moment to announce that it was feeling more than a little empty.

"I think it's time we find something to fill this little cub's stomach, as much as he sometimes shows that there's more to him than most cubs we still have to remember that at the end of the day he's still a child." Jack stated before accepting the backpack that contained my diaper supplies from Davies.

"He's quite unique." Davies commented, "Though in more than one way he reminds me of my own kit at home when he isn't demonstrating his talent with computer codes."

"Thanks, sir, I hope that you enjoy working with him."

"Let's just say that working with him has been educational and more than a little humbling."

Jack nodded and then turned and headed out of the station. "I see that you managed to impress them kitten."

I mumbled the affirmative as I rested my head against his shoulder. "If my life hadn't been so mixed up I think I'd like working in that kind of environment." I stated softly. "I mean I know that I could do so much more, but at the same time helping keep situations like mine would be good for the soul."

"I know kitten, we have to keep that kind of thing in mind when we make decisions on what we do as adults." "Jack said softly, "What really hurts is the knowledge that for every child that survives to adulthood with your issues there are a hundred more that die and are never remembered even by those who brought them into this cruel world."
