#3 of The Azure Phoenix

The morning after continues, Denryk meets Zuri's crew, and things get steamy in the cockpit!

Following breakfast, I cleaned up the galley while Zuri went to get dressed, slipping on a pair of dark grey coveralls and the boots she'd worn yesterday. As I got the last plate stowed away, the docking bay alarm began to chime.

"Odd," I mused as I closed the door and made my way to the airlock. Punching up the camera feeds, I saw four people milling about the docking bay doors-two bears, a wolf, and a mouse. The mouse looked up at the camera and stuck her tongue out playfully before the male bear nudged her and shook his head, pointedly not looking at the monitoring device. As I watched them, I heard Zuri walk up behind me, peering over my shoulder at the screen. "Friends of yours?" I asked, glancing up at her.

"In a manner of speaking," she smirked, "That's my crew. C'mon," she clapped me on the shoulder, "Let's go say hi." Before I could even comment or object, she hit the button to open the airlock and headed down the boarding ramp, leaving me to catch up to her.

"If that's your crew, where's their gear?" I asked as I hurried after her.

"Dunno," she shrugged. "They've probably got it out of sight of the cameras. Ringing someone's doorbell with an arsenal in tow tends to make people skittish."

"I imagine people opening a door and finding an arsenal they weren't expecting would make them just as skittish."

"True," she chuckled, "But once the door's open, it's a lot easier to get in."

"Makes sense, given your line of work."

"Oh, we don't knock. The kinds of people we're after aren't your average bail jumpers and con men fleeing a jilted lover. The only knock they get is the sound of our boots kicking down the doors." She grins over at me, "It's fun, you should join us sometime."

I shake my head, laughing. "I'm good, thanks. I get enough excitement in the sky."

"Don't know what you're missing. You can handle a gun, yeah? Don't you pilots go through some kind of survival training?"

"Yeah," I nodded. "SERE training-Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape. We go live off the land for two weeks, trying to evade capture, then spend time in a mock prison which we have to resist interrogation and try to escape."

"And did you?"

"Nope. I don't think anyone from our training group escaped. I did manage to stay hidden until they call you in for the interrogations, though."

"You can't stay hidden the entire time?"

"It's important to go through all the training," I explained, "They encourage you to avoid being captured for as long as possible to keep the interrogation as short as possible."

"So, does that mean the people who get captured during the evasion period...?" she trailed off, leaving the question unspoken. I nodded solemnly.

"They have to spend more time in the interrogation phase."

"Rough. What was it like?" Unbidden, a thousand unwelcome memories flooded back. The lights, the pain, the screaming, all of it. I suppressed it with a shudder and shook my head.

"I don't like to talk about it," I answered curtly, quickly adding, "Sorry, didn't mean to snap at you. It's just..."

"...something you don't like to talk about," she finished. I glanced over at her and caught the empathetic look on her face. "I get it. We all have things we're not comfortable with. If you ever want to talk about it, though, I'm here for you. No teasing, no getting you all flustered, I promise."

"Thanks," I said softly and smiled up at her. "One day, when I'm ready, I'll tell you all about it. I promise. But for now, you need to introduce me to your crew."

"Oh, I do, do I?" she smirked.

"Well, we could all just stand around staring at each other in awkward silence if that's what you want..."

Her laugh filled the small alcove of the docking bay entrance and she shook her head at me. "Cheeky fucker." I couldn't help but give her a grin in return as I opened the bay doors.

With a slow rumble, the doors parted, giving me an up-close look at Zuri's team. Closest to the door was the mouse, a girl with unruly, bright blue hair that contrasted with her grey fur. Her violet eyes had a look of perpetual mischief and I noted she was immediately sizing me up. I somehow got the feeling she'd be more trouble than Zuri, with none of the benefits. The next was the wolf, a powerful woman with dark grey fur and fire-red hair, her arms crossed across her broad chest. Her gaze was steely and cold, a look I hoped wouldn't be turned my way for most of the trip. The last two were the bears. The man cut an impressive, hulking form, towering above the rest, and possibly Zuri as well, his fur all black, with a glowing blue cyber-eye where his left eye should have been, and a natural grey for his other. The woman was shorter than the man, but still taller than the rest, with warmer brown fur and a mohawk that started at the top as violet, then went to deep blue, then lighter blue, then back to what I guessed was her natural black, silky hair. Both of their expressions were detached and impassive, but I had a feeling that they were paying more attention than they were letting on.

We stood there, eyeing each other up for several long, painfully awkward seconds before Zuri cleared her throat. "Glad you found the place," she started, "This is Captain Denryk Barsuk, in charge of the charming ship behind us. Captain, this is my crew. The bunny is our electronics specialist, Myra Hanscombe."

"Hey there!" she chirped, practically bounding forward and taking my hand in an energetic handshake. I was caught slightly off-guard by her seemingly boundless energy, which she both noticed and noted. "Cat got your tongue? Or should I say...hyena?" She gave me an exaggerated wink and a playful nudge of the ribs. Smooth talker that I am, I began to stammer a bit, feeling my cheeks flush beneath my fur.

"Alright, alright, leave it out, Myra. Plenty of time for ribbing the poor, cute Captain later," Zuri admonished her teammate and tossed me a playful wink, which did nothing to alleviate the blush I felt burning across my face. "Moving on. This is Zhora Tyrell, our spotter and sniper." The wolfess stepped forward and uncrossed her arms, taking my hand in a firm, brief shake.

"A pleasure," I said. She grunted, and gave a thin smile in return.

"Likewise," she replied curtly, then moved back to her original spot.

"She's a real charmer when you get to know her," Zuri supplied, but I wasn't so sure at the time. "And last, but certainly not least, Denari and Bjorn Haraldson. My heavy hitters, so to speak. When I need the doors knocked down, rather than on."

Denari stepped forward first, with a genuinely warm smile on her face as she took my hand in a firm, but gentle handshake. "Good to meet you, Captain Barsuk."

"And you, Denari." I smiled in return. As soon as she stepped back, my view was eclipsed by her male counterpart, who took my hand, in turn, and surprised me with the same firm but gentle handshake Denari had just given me.

"Captain." He rumbled, nodding to me. "Would you happen to have cabins fit for two people? Zuri's been frustratingly tight-lipped on the subject."

A small smile spread across my face and I chuckled. "Ah, she has, has she?" I glanced over at Zuri to find her grinning impishly back at me. "Yes, I have cabins large enough for two people. It'll be a bit of a tight fit, but yes."

"Thank you, Captain," he said, turning back to take his spot with the group.

"Now that's all sorted out," Zuri said, clapping her hands together, "I want you to go and get your gear on board. Just get it up the ramp and the Captain will show you where to go from there. I want to be packed and ready in half an hour, so let's move it!"

A chorus of assents came from her crew, who promptly turned and began pushing, pulling, or carrying the large, sealed crates that had been piled up behind them, just out of camera view. I had assumed(correctly, it would turn out), that these were their weapons, armor, and equipment. As I watched them begin to proceed up the ramp, my view was suddenly obscured by Zuri's chest, her coveralls unzipped past her belly button and her breasts straining against the thin fabric of the white t-shirt she was wearing. As soon as I opened my mouth to say something, I could feel her hand on my crotch, gently squeezing and teasing my rapidly-growing erection.

I did my best to stifle a moan as she so expertly teased me, and I even managed to tear my gaze away from that perfect bosom to look her in the eye. The look in her eyes...it sent a shiver of excitement down my spine. She was back to her hungry, dominant 'yena self. She would take what she wanted, and right now, she wanted me. And in that moment, I cannot describe how good, how exciting, how thrilling it was to be wanted by a woman such as her.

"Mmmm..." she whispered, her voice low and sultry, "You like that, do you? Bet you're dying to just rip these coveralls off me and slip deep inside me. To cum with me again. Is that what you want, loverboy?" I let out a low groan and nodded eagerly, conscious of the fact that there was a group of people who could have easily turned around and seen us. She chuckled, a predatory smirk on her face as I felt a finger slowly trace my shaft through the fabric of my coveralls. "Not even wearing boxers, dear Denryk? Oh my, you are a naughty one, aren't you?" It takes everything in my power to keep my composure, my hands pushing lightly against her forearms in a barely half-hearted attempt to dissuade her from teasing me further.

"I-it's...it's a comf-ah!-a..c-comfort thing," I managed to get out.

"Sure it is," she grinned, finally removing her hand from my crotch. She stared at me for another second, her eyes searching my face. "Gaia, you are so easy to tease, and you are just the cutest when you're all flustered."

Before I could object, she pulled me close and kissed me passionately, deeply, our tongues sliding across and exploring each other. I wrapped my arms around her, and I felt her wrap me up in her strong embrace. In that moment, I wanted nothing more than find a quiet corner of the docking bay and make it a lot less quiet with her. Sadly, however, Zuri broke the kiss, leaving us both catching our breath for a moment. Then she grabbed my hand and led us back towards the Phoenix. As we made our way back, I used the time to try and remember that ice cold shower from this morning, being ejected out an airlock, that nest of Hyborean Sand Ticks on Epsilon Eridani-anything to help bring down my arousal.

Fortunately for me, it worked. I was almost completely, ah..."calmed down" by the time we made it up the ramp. All eyes were on us as the airlock doors shut, the air pressure equalizing with a quiet hiss. At first, I wondered what they were all staring at us for, but then I quickly realized we were still holding hands. Yet again, I felt the now-familiar feeling of a blush forming across my cheeks as I gave a weak smile and a wave.

"Welcome aboard the Azure Phoenix," I began, trying to inject some confidence and authority in my voice. "The armory is over there, the large doors on the starboard side, should be able to fit everything in there. The doors aft of this one lead to engineering, life support, that sort of thing, and I'd ask that nobody goes back there but me except for an absolute emergency. Galley, as you can see, is right over there, fully stocked. All I ask is that you keep it clean and don't eat absolutely everything. Down that corridor there is the crew berthing, I'll let you all sort out who gets what room. Each room has its own sonic shower and restroom facilities, by the way, so no communal showers or anything like that."

At that, the crew perked up considerably. Denari hip-bumped Bjorn with grin, which he returned, Myra clapped excitedly, and even Zhora's stone face cracked the faintest grin. Maybe. Could have been a trick of the light.

"Only other rule I have on board is that when the door leading to the cockpit and captain's quarters is closed, don't enter unless, again, it's an emergency. Any questions?"

"So, if that door's closed, does that mean you two are caught in the mad throes of passion?" Myra asked, clasping her hands together and making a melodramatic expression.

"No, it means I'm flying the ship and would like as few distractions as possible," I shot back, scowling. The mouse simply grinned back at me, unfazed. I guess I just didn't look the least bit intimidating to these people. Although, in hindsight, considering they kick down the doors of some of the galaxy's most wanted, a short chubby badger probably didn't appear that intimidating. "Any other questions?"

"So, does she top or...?" Myra smirked and I let out an annoyed sigh.

"Any questions about the ship?"

"Ohhh," she had the sheer gall to look sheepish. "Nope. Not a one." The others shook their heads as well.

"Good," Zuri said, cutting off any reply I had. "Get your gear sorted and rooms picked out. We're underway in..." She stopped, hit with the sudden realization I would be the only one who knew that. She cleared her throat, then looked over at me. I simply looked back up at her, an eyebrow cocked and just the faintest smirk on my face.

"Yes, Zuri?" I asked innocently.

"Oh, don't be dense."

"Twenty minutes if I go and get started right now."

"Best get on it, then," she said as she released my hand. "I'll get started on this lot and then meet you up in the cockpit." I nodded to her and stepped around her, leaving her to get her crew set up.

Once in the cockpit, I plopped down into my seat with a happy sigh and began running through the pre-flight checklist. By now, running through the list was relaxing, almost meditative, in how much it cleared my mind and put me at ease. No matter what was going on in my life, no matter what trouble my client or cargo was causing me, it all fell away. Because I knew in a few minutes, I would be out there, among the stars, free.

Seventeen minutes later, I had finished the last pre-flight check. The engines had been spun up and were idling quietly, all moorings and umbilicals had been released, and all sections were in the green. And just in time, too, as I heard the cockpit hatch slide open.

"Alright, crew's all settled, gear is stowed, and we're ready to get out of here whenever you are, Captain," Zuri said, sliding into her chair behind me. I leaned back and gave her a thumbs up and strapped myself in.

"Thanks, Zuri. Go ahead and strap in while I get clearance from Pendleton Control." With a few flips of the switch, I had Control on the line.

"Pendleton Control, this is the Azure Phoenix, bay 94, requesting permission to depart, six souls aboard."

"Azure Phoenix, this is Control. You are next on our departure list. Stand by for bay door opening."

"Copy control." I flipped over to the aft camera and watched as the bay doors began to slowly part, the orange metal giving way to the star-filled void of space. The sensor board began to flash with the familiar warning that a depressurization had occurred outside the hull; I quickly toggled it off. My hands gripped the yoke and throttle tightly, awaiting the green light from traffic control.

"Phoenix, this is Control, you a green to go. Engage thrusters until you've cleared one thousand meters."

"Azure Phoenix copies," I respond, slowly nudging the throttle forward. There's the barest scrape of metal as the landing skids leave the bay floor and the ship begins making her slow exit from the bay. In the rear monitor, the frame of the bay got smaller and smaller and the starfield grew larger, until at last, the rear of the Phoenix had exited. I turned off the rear camera and continued to pull away, watching as the bay exit slid past the cockpit windows, leaving me looking at the now-empty docking bay and the mass of rock that was Pendleton. A sigh of relief escaped me as we finally cleared it, those smaller bays always made me nervous any time I had to back out of them. "Control, Azure Phoenix has left the bay." As the bay doors began to shut, I turned the ship on an outbound vector and nudged the throttles forward further. On the sensor board, the numbers indicating the distance between the Phoenix and the station climbing steadily. When they displayed I was one kilometer out, I cut the thrusters, switching over to the main engines. "Control, this is the Azure Phoenix, we are one kilometer out, switching to main drives. See you next time, Pendleton."

"Pendleton Control copies. Good hunting out there, Phoenix. Control out."

I grinned and slammed the throttles forward, pushing the Phoenix to her limits. Behind me, I heard Zuri let out a surprised yelp, which she quickly stifled. "Just putting the old girl through her paces. Making sure the internal dampers are still functioning," I belatedly warned her. Checking to make sure the sensor board was clear, I rolled the ship hard to port, banked to starboard, and then pulled a complete loop before putting us back on our original heading. My grin at this point was now an ear-to-ear smile as the starfield shifted and spun and slid past. She was just as responsive as ever, and even though I almost never had to put her in a situation where I had to fly like my life depended on it, it was always nice to know she'd be there when I needed her.

"Alright, course laid in for the nearest jump point, should be smooth sailing for the next couple of hours before we get there," I announced, leaning back into my seat with a contented sigh.

"So you're all done trying to toss us around like a skipping stone?" Zuri asked.

"Yeah, we're good," I chuckled. "You wanna come up here and take a look?"

"Sure." The sound of straps being unbuckled came from behind me, then boots coming up right behind me. She leaned over my chair, looking out at the starry sky. "...I love this view. Every single time I see it. Never gets old."

"I know what you mean."

"I think that's part of the reason I didn't want to go into the family business, you know? Yeah, we build ships, but all I would ever see was the inside of the corporate office. Not saying it's a dump, it's quite nice, real posh. But it's not...this."

"Absolutely. This view never gets old, although it's nice to be able to share it with someone."

"Mhm. Really don't get this view that often when hitching a ride on other ships. Not a lot of passenger ships willing to get involved in this line of work. You get the odd porthole or two. But this? Looking out and seeing nothing but space?" She shook her head.

"Glad I could share it with you, then," I smiled up at her. She smiled back, then walked back to her station. Or, rather, I thought she did. Once she started heading back, I returned to the starry view. The next thing that caught my attention was the sound of the door lock engaging.

Wondering what was going on, I unlocked my chair and spun it around to find Zuri at the door with a playful grin on her face...and nothing else. My jaw fell open, whatever admonishments, questions, or anything else I had in my head were gone. My arousal was back, however, in full force and straining against my coveralls.

"Anything else you'd like to share with me, loverboy?" she asked, slowly striding back towards me. The overhead lighting, combined with the glow of the consoles, as she approached highlighted every curve of her perfect body. The contours of her muscular thighs, her toned abs, her beautiful breasts, the silver barbells glinting in the light. That predatory look in her eyes was back, and I knew what that meant.

"Quite a few, actually," I quipped, unbuckling from my seat, "But I get the feeling you're only after one thing."

"Not at all," she admonished, still sauntering towards me. "Don't forget those hands and that skilled tongue of yours." She stopped just shy of me and put a hand on her hip, striking a seductive pose. "Like what you see?"

"I love what I see. Every inch of you is beautiful."

"Gaia, I love it when you talk like that," she growled, practically pouncing on me. Her hands roughly pulled off my coveralls, letting them pool around my booted feet and leaving my shaft exposed and throbbing. A shudder and a gasp escaped my lips as her hand wrapped around my member, her thumb teasingly rubbing the sensitive head as she slowly stroked me. "And I love it when you make those little noises. Now back in your chair, Captain." Zuri let go of my cock and pushed me back into the captain's chair, leaving me looking up at her and wondering just what she had in mind. She leaned over, reaching past me to fiddle with the arms on the chair, her breasts dangling right in front of my face, tempting me. Without another word, I reached up and hefted each one in my hand, my fingers delicately running through the fur on the underside, my thumbs idly tracing the silver barbells. That certainly got a reaction out of her as she stopped what she was doing to moan softly, a shudder running through her this time. "I love it when you make those little noises, Zuri." She looked down at me with a sultry grin.

"Cheeky fucker," she replied and leaned down to kiss me again. Our tongues wrestled and slid across each other, played and explored as we both moaned and whimpered into one another's mouths. The kiss was broken by the sound of the arms of the chair being pushed back into the upright position, giving Zuri enough room to comfortably straddle me, if she wanted to. "There we go," she sounded quite pleased with herself, her fingers sliding down her stomach and over her mons before slipping inside her, her juices already shining in the light as they began to run down her digits.

Once she had collected enough of her nectar, she began to rub it over my shaft, coating me in her fluids. I moaned loudly in response, my hips slowly rising and falling in time with her strokes. Her moans joined mine as she lined my cock up with her folds, and she began to lower herself down. My hands grabbed onto her hips, holding onto her as I felt her walls begin to clench down around me, eagerly squeezing my member. Our hips met, and I looked up at Zuri, our eyes locked on each other as they met. She smiled and blew me a kiss, slowly grinding against me.

"Always...wanted...to...do this," she panted as she began to slide up and down my cock, her hands gripping my shoulders tightly. I let out a long groan, feeling her warm tunnel hungrily press against me, drawing out every last bit of pleasure she could. My hips rose and fell in time with her own, and my hands ran over her thighs, up her abdomen, and finally reaching those perfect breasts, cupping and squeezing them.

"I thought we did this last night?" I joked, the statement punctuated by another moan as she gripped me again. Before she could answer, I leaned over, taking a nipple into my mouth and suckling on it, my tongue running over both barbell and flesh. Her hands shifted, moving to my head as she pressed my face further into her chest. I could feel, but not see her shake her head, and I heard, but couldn't see, the smile in her voice.

"Smartass," she said slowing her pace, "I meant this. Making love with someone while out among the stars. It's...mmmm, yeah, right there, love...fffffuck..." Her voice caught as her pleasure continued to slowly build. "It's quite...ah!...romantic."

I let the 'romantic' comment slip, not wanting to spoil the moment. Instead, I nodded, released her nipple with an audible pop, and ran my tongue around her areola. Another shudder ran through her, and she spasmed on my cock, in turn, sending another shudder through me. "Nnnngh, fuck!" I cried out softly. "N-never done it b-before, myself."

"Ooooooh...guess I'm just a lucky girl, h-huh?" She grinned, her fingers running through the fur on my head as her hips began move faster. My movements matched hers, and before long, we were well past talking. We moaned and panted, the sounds of our intimacy filled the cabin, and by now, we knew each of us were getting closer and closer, the sweat matting our fur.

"Z-Zu...I'm..."

"Go on," she panted, riding me now as hard as she could, her tunnel sucking hungrily, eager for what I was about to give her. At last, my climax overtook me, and bucked into her one last time, moaning out her name as I came deep inside her. My hyena let out a long groan before my climax set off hers, her body shuddering and convulsing as waves of ecstasy washed over her. She held me tightly as I held her, basking in the afterglow. Our mixed juices ran down my shaft and over my thighs, so completely had I filled her. We nuzzled and kissed one another, our hands gently caressing and exploring each other.

"Goddess," I whispered. "And you think you're the lucky one.."

She laughed softly and kissed the top of my head. "Of course I am. I found you."

"And what does that make me?" I asked.

"Even luckier. You weren't even looking for me." Our laughter echoed through the cockpit as the ship sailed on to our first bounty....
