#1 of Step Up to the Light

I have no idea. This just started on Saturday night. A bit at a time.

So, what happened... It's a little hard to explain. In my mind's eye I could see ponies, flying around, and I had this weird feeling of falling, as though my wings wouldn't work: they felt numb from the muscles to the ends of my fingers. I fell through the clouds, which were fortunately low, and hit the ground with a thump. The next thing I know, I'm surrounded by angry, worried-looking equines, and I can't move: from reading your stories I figured that I was being held in place somehow, but then I realised it was more than that: not only could I not move, I couldn't feel half of my body either.

Somepony - I don't know names - who seemed to be in charge asked me what I was doing in Equestria, where I had come from, and so forth. I didn't have any good answers: all I knew was that somehow I'd felt 'pulled' into that space, that something was 'calling' to me across the ether. It was clear I wasn't giving satisfactory answers, and it was also clear they didn't like having a dragon in the middle of Equestria, because after a while they got into a huddle and started conferring. Shortly afterwards, they turned back to me and said that this was outside of their scope, and I should follow them to a secure location... which was when I discovered I couldn't move. I could talk, I could breathe, but I just couldn't move.

So you were immobilized.

Yes and no. They held me until they wanted me to move, but at that point it was discovered that I couldn't move. When I'd come through into wherever it was, my wings had lost strength and I'd fallen, and I'd landed badly, on my shoulders. My back was broken.

So there I am, a large quaddy dragon - still my own form, slinky and shiny, rather than the heavily horned dragons of that land - all twisted up and unable to move. My sack of gems is burst open and scattered across the land nearby. --- Why was I carrying gems?... and who is asking?... --- I look up and I have the shock of my life: Celestia has turned up and is staring into my eyes. Not angry, as in that picture you drew of her, but... firm. Stern. Concerned. Protective. Mother mare of her queendom, she's doing her job. So I answer her questions: I don't entirely know why I'm there, I just know that I am. And why... something was calling. I had a dream, inside a dream, and I dreamed there was a dragon, and I... I had to try to find him.(edited)

Interesting.

She wanted to know what the gems were for. I didn't know; I just knew that I needed them, to offer to the dragon. "To buy his assistance?" "No," I said, "I think... to buy time." That puzzled her a little, I think, so I added, "Time... to mention the possibility of exploring the feasibility of affection." That did throw her, but she definitely seemed to relax. We talked for a little time about things, about the ways of dragons and ponies and their disagreements. I told her I thought she was beautiful, especially when she was angry, and she grinned. "You have a silver tongue, silver dragon, even while your words are honest," she said. (I really do think Celestia is beautiful; if I were more brave, I might have suggested a date with her.)

By this time, someone has looked my back over. "It will take a while to heal," said somepony, evidently a doctor. "It's not ruined, just obviously the result of a bad fall." "We cannot leave him here," said Celestia. "There is a cave in the mountains: it will be out of sight of other dragons, who might see him and come exploring, and also away from prying eyes of ponies. Do not worry, dragon: you may be out of general sight, but you will not be out of mind." The next thing I knew, I'm in a cave, someponies are fetching bales of grass for me to lie on, and another is starting to try to encourage my back to heal.
