#24 of Wayward Scale

James has a plan...

Yinglets by ValSalia

Thanks to Sergal Queen Arts 58 for her role as Emilia Scale

James watched as the number on his counter dropped. While doing so, he occasionally looked up at the pure white planet seed in the scientist's hand. Once the number on the counter stopped dropping, the scientist handed over both the device and the seed and stated, "Do be careful with the seed."

"I will," stated James before turning and leaving the quite small facility. Upon reaching the void of stars, he walked straight across a plane of glass towards the Red Comet. Upon reaching the airlock, he went through it and climbed the stairs up to the storage area. He sat next to Takeo, along with another historical Japanese figure. He pointed at them and said, "Watch what you dig into, okay?"

"Why?"

"God knows how long our trip's going to take."

"Oh great, better not be years!"

"Depends on what you mean by years."

"You know, earth years, I do not feel like being dead!"

"I'll try to save as much time as I can."

"Please do!"

With that, James proceeded all the way up to the bridge of the ship. He sat at the captain's chair and pushed on a lever. "Well guys, we've got another planet seed."

He tossed the seed up, caught it and held it towards Takeo. He looked down at it, then up at him and asked, "What you make this time?"

"I don't know, a place to mine?"

"What all you going mine?"

"I don't know, Iron, money metal. First, we'd better find a spot for the accretion. How close to an asteroid belt?"

"Pretty close."

James turned around to see Emily in the doorway. "How long were you over there?"

"A few minutes."

"Okay, so I take it you know what's up. Red Comet, how far are we from an asteroid belt?"

"Two hundred lightyears."

"Damn it!"

James sighed and continued, "Well, either we'll have to sit tight or buckle up. What say y'all?"

"Hyperspeed."

"And, Tak?"

Takeo shrugged and said, "Might as well."

"In that case, hang on!"

As Takeo braced himself in the doorway, James sat and pressed a button. Then, he pushed a lever up and fastened his seat belt. "If you're going to hit the wall, make sure the impact's not too hard!"

Then, extreme pressure swept over them as the ship went into hyperspace. James sunk into his chair, and before they knew it, they were thrown forward, and the screen went back to normal. James tilted his head to the side as Takeo flopped over his chair into his arms. "Well, guess I you wife."

James shook his head and pushed him off. Takeo jumped to his feet and barked, "Rude!"

"Let's just get this seed ready."

"Hai, and not mine!"

"Did you think I meant yours?"

"Hell if I know!"

James stood up and left the bridge, with Takeo and Emily in tow. "We're going to be planting a planet seed, and it needs programming."

"I guess I'll do it!"

"Alright."

He handed over the seed and, as they entered the lab, Emily sat down and got to work. James went back to the bridge and went back to the captain's chair. "So, how are things on Kuron?"

"Hell. My kids are morons!"

"Really?"

"Hai. My one is getting wrapped up with Li-Ming."

"Li-what?"

"They like Earth's chinese."

James nodded and said, "Ohh, okay."

"I swear gods, if I go home and my grand kids are mix bred..."

James shrugged and watched the asteroids floating by.

* * * * *

Two days passed before the seed was ready. James went to the lab, where Emily stood over the seed. "It," she gasped, "it's finally done!"

James pumped his fist and grunted in satisfaction before asking, "So, what do we have for it?"

"What ever you want."

"Well, what has been assigned to it?"

"Well a new planet which I believe is a tundra."

"Ah well, let's launch it."

"Of course!"

As she got up to go down to the cannon, James said, "I'll go man the controls, you can load it in the gun."

Once he arrived at the bridge, he turned to Takeo and said, "You know, I might try to recreate a nineteenth century society with this."

After a minute, he asked, "Red Comet, is the cannon loaded?"

"Yes, captain James Scale."

With that, he sat down and pressed a button in the center of the wheel. He watched as the seed floated off and attached itself to an asteroid. "Question is whether I should try Victorian England or early America."

"Either one."

"Also, would it be worth it to let there be war on this planet, or would it cost too much?"

"sure, why not."

"I can add a law that they can use cheaper metal for warfare, and I think I'll start with a Victorian town. Maybe, an American town will show up sooner or later."

"Well, of course. Got a whole planet to fill."

"And, you can't mine an entire planet with one shanty. I mean, it might be possible, but it would take ages."

Once Emily came, he asked, "So, did you assign it to develop intelligent life, or are we going to have to hire workers?"

"Hire workers."

"Alright."

"People will eventually come, though. Just not humans."

"I'm aware of that. So, what all do you think would be the best choices?"

"Up to you."

"Sergals and Aweks?"

"That can work out, and possibly birds."

"Any ideas, Tak?"

"Eh, just keep damn bugs away!"

"Bugs? You mean those wasps?"

"Hai, I just hate bugs. So, no bug species!"

"None whatsoever? What would the bats eat?"

"I don't know, and don't care!"

"Well, we could sit here and watch, or we could mark this accretion on the map and go do something else."

"Well, let us do that."

"Red Comet, can you record the location of the new accretion?"

"Yes, captain."

"Good. After that, we're out."

Once the AI made a loud ringing noise, James said, "Everyone, buckle up."

He pounded a button, and he looked at the screen to see stars stretching. Then, they felt a great pressure, and the ship vanished to the horizon.
