Chapter Eighteen

Janus was dead...

Obsidian sat on the cold, musty sofa inside the rather primitive wooden house that had once belonged to Carrus's grandfather.

He must have gone through it thousands of times in his mind.

They had dug out a grave in the garden around the back of the house, deciding that Janus's body was too mutilated to surrender to the local authorities... After all, it was a pretty unbelievable story and they were more likely to believe that the two of him had murdered him.

Obsidian had been in a panic all day. What if they believed he was responsible? Was he going to prison?

All these thoughts and more came rushing into his mind as he waited for Carrus to get back from the local store. They had both decided to lay low after what had happened to Janus.

Phoenix Grace might come for them next.

The sky was slowly growing darker as dusk settled over the small mountain town of Crysfall. Obsidian had not heard a car outside for hours and somehow that comforted him as he sat on the same sofa, still in a complete state of shock.

He was sure of what Phoenix Grace was capable of and somehow, he needed to get out.

He buried his long equine head in his hands, his black mane fluttering slightly as he looked down at the floor in despair. Maybe he could just resign or look for better employment? It was not too late to walk away from this.

The television in the corner, a rather primitive set by modern Crystal City standards came to life with the distinctive fanfare of the local Vulnira News Network. Obsidian had never really paid that much attention to it previously. He had always felt that the news was never reliable and sometimes, completely fake.

His ears pricked up when he heard something on the television set.

"Tributes were paid tonight to Janus Everson, who was tragically lost in a climbing accident during a holiday on Everonth Mountain. "This is a terrible tragedy" remarked Police Commissioner Julianna Gehmore. "He was an accomplished detective and I have ordered a complete safety review in the Everonth area."..."

The television was shattering. Phoenix Grace had planned for his death and fedthis rubbish to the press. Just like that, Janus was consigned to history!

Obsidian could feel his blood begin to boil, his outraging climbing. His large hand shooting out and grabbing the glass that once contained alcohol and with a desperate scream, he hurled it into the wall.

The glass immediately shattered into thousands of pieces as Obsidian slid back down, missing the sofa that he had been sat on and ending up on the floor. Tears streaming down his face.

He asked himself why he was crying. He had never known Janus that well and of course he naturally feared for his own life but it was more then that. It was the way that the media could take all that Janus was a just placate the masses with some fake story about his death. The noise from the lack of justice was deafening.

If Phoenix Grace could get away with that?

What more could they get away with?

He heard fast paced footsteps from the other room as the door from the kitchen opened and Carrus rushed in, thinking that Obsidian may have been in some sort of trouble but was instead greeted by the sight of the large stallion crying his eyes out on the floor.

He did not know what to say. Was there anything that he could say?

Carrus rushed over to Obsidian to comfort him, draping his arms around the large horse and leaving his shopping bags at the door.

"They... said it was a climbing accident..." remarked Obsidian, unsure whether he was crying for himself, as his plan to rescue Janus had completely failed or for Janus's lost memory. He did not completely understand all these emotions that he was feeling.

"Bastards..." muttered Carrus as he sat down beside him, his cloven hands still resting on Obsidian's much larger hands. He had no idea how such a powerful, noble, creature such as the Equus of legend could be capable of showing these kinds of emotions.

He was not exactly in the best frame of mind himself. He had watched a lover from just a few hours ago die on his kitchen table. He was beginning to like Janus, he had actually understood the struggles that he had gone through and he really had wanted to get to know him better himself.

Now he would never get that opportunity.

Obsidian felt his heart pumping, the surge of emotion was powerful and unlike anything that he had ever felt before even during his own parents death.

As a child, he had been one of the very few survivors of the Equus Village Disaster, he had only been ten years old. The Vulnira Government and Phoenix Grace wanted to suppress the flow of information about the massacre, renaming it to "disaster" to deflect the blame away from them. They had made sweeping promises to protect the children of those who had been tragically lost during the "disaster" and had enrolled Obsidian, as well as other surviving children into Phoenix Grace's illustrious privately owned boarding school.

Growing up, Obsidian had always been treated well and had been a joy for many of his instructors, academically intelligent but socially awkward, he preferred to devote himself to his exploration of history and by the age of fifteen, had essentially airbrushed the loss of his parents from his mind.

Now he was looking back and seeing the cause of all his pain in the first place. The memories of that day when the creatures came and killed his family for defending their homes was still there and refused to be silent. He had just done all he could, for all these years, to suppress it.

No longer...

Carrus looked up at Obsidian, both of them were in pain, they could see it reflected in each others eyes and there was a longing to make that pain, all that uncertainty and fear for the future go away... if only for a moment.

Obsidian looked at the buck, as his hands moved from under Carrus's and onto his slender, feminine body, holding his soft fur on his hip, where he shirt was riding slightly upwards, revealing his rather astonishing mottled pattern on his fur.

There was a moment of pure emotion, where a connection between these two had been formed within a shared pool of grief. Obsidian found himself moving closer to Carrus, remembering how aroused he had become at the sight of Janus and him together that night.

Carrus and Obsidian locked muzzles, both knowing that it was crazy but still unable to restrain themselves. Carrus felt Obsidian's long tongue work its way into his mouth while he shuddered in pleasure.

This was crazy but the surge of pleasure between the both of them was enough to keep their lips locked together, Obsidian's hands trailing down the back of the slim deer boy, feeling the same perfectly shaped and round firm butt that Janus had felt just as few days earlier.

Carrus had been totally unprepared for this as well, a few days day, he had been a bored hotel owner in a quiet town, until these two men had lambasted their way into his life with a whirlwind.

The kiss was slow and intimate, their tongues intertwining, Obsidian's huge bulge between his legs becoming ever more obvious as he could not restrain himself any longer.

They both wanted this... no... needed this.

Both of them were in shock with Janus's death and it was the crazy moment that both of them had surrendered to, almost completely and utterly.

Carrus's hand trailed down to Obsidian's bulge, feeling it through the cloth of his worn hiking trousers, giving a slight gasp. He had always known that Equus were renowned for their size but to finally feel one. A million questions of what he was going to do it quivered within him, all more exciting then the last.

This was going to be just what he needed...
