Haunted

By: Lapsa

"Betcha won't go in." One of her friends jabbed Alex hard in the back with his finger, causing the vixen to wince as she growled at him.

"What are you, five? Of course I won't, its someone else's house!" Alex crossed her arms, turning to her friend - the wolf chuckling as his face curled into a wide grin.

"Of course not, Matt. it's someone else's house. I'm not about to get arrested for trespassing." Alex crossed her arms as she turned to her friend - the wolf's face curling into a wide grin.

"Scared?" The wolf chuckled. "The cops are way too busy patrolling the neighborhood, they don't even come down here on normal days let alone a holiday."

"Yeah, and what if the people living there catch me? Then what?" Alex stepped back, looking to her other two friends for support.

"Actually no one lives there anymore...it's been abandoned for almost a hundred years now." Rebecca looped her armed around Matt's own as she giggled. "They say its haunted by the family that used to live there. You are supposed to be able to see them every night wandering around the halls of the house."

"What are you all, children?" The vixen rolled her eyes again. "Anthony, come on - back me up here."

"I hear that they love to scare nerds." The todd giggled as he stuck out his tongue at the vixen.

"Ugh...fine." Alex rolled her eyes as the three friends now giggled and chuckled around her. "I'll go in just to put this childish nonsense to rest for good. You all really need to grow up."

"Well, come on!" The vixen crossed her arms, waiting for a few minutes before turning with the rest of her friends as they opened the rusty iron gate - slipping through as soon as there was enough room.

They'd all stand in front of the mansion for a bit as Alex tried once more to dissuade them, the creaking front door of the house opening only making the situation worse as the teasing grew even more persistent. It was a few minutes more before a final huff of defeat would leave the vixen's lips, Alex walking with a determined pace up the long stone path to the porch.

***

Alex opened the heavy door - a burst of stale cold air hitting her as it opened to reveal the untouched living room inside. Even in the dark she could make out the furniture still as it was left so many years ago - the walls and floor eerily clean. None of the paint had peeled, none of the finish had tarnished. It gave her the same vibes as a museum, a piece of the past preserved and kept alive long after it should've been forgotten.

Slowly she walked inside, the door closing behind her as her flashlight shown through the musty interior. Her heart was already racing, the vixen unable to help but feel a little bit of fear as the words of her friends echoed through her head with every little creak and groan the house made and each little spec of dust that floated into the beam of light that was her only source of comfort.

The vixen would gradually make her way around the first floor of the house - going from room to room with her confidence growing against each time until she felt no fear at all. She even made up her mind to ditch her flashlight with a hearty laugh - mocking her earlier fear by challenging herself to put all the ghosty myths she could think of to the test.

It wasn't until she went to leave again that the fear would return, something by the stairs to the second story catching her eye. She could just barely make out the figure of a women, distorted and waving through the air like mist. Alex would've screamed then and there had it not been for a strange feeling that seemed to instantly cover her mind, thoughts silenced as she looked into the dead eyes of the ghostly figure before it ascended the stairs.

She found herself following without a second thought, flashlight dropping onto the wooden floor. Her eyes would never leave the figure until it vanished from sight at the top of the stairs, vixen staying motionless once she reached the spot it had vanished - waiting for direction.

"Come...come..." She felt fingers tease across her chin as her body continued to move forward.

She wouldn't fight any more as she fell deeper into her trance, only a few muffled protests mumbling into incoherent dull whimpers as her eyes glazed over. Her dull orbs would fix on the wooden door at the far end of the hallway, barely a single thought crossing her mind as it swung open. All fear had left her had left her by now, driven away by the icy spectral grip tugging at her mind.

Alex would shuffle into the newly opened room, barely taking note of the old antique furniture, the large queen sized bed, any of the chairs and chests - or the distant murmurs of her friends outside, their voices drifting in through the cracked window. All the vixen would focus on was the wardrobe at the far end, watching herself grow closer in its mirror until her fingers were gliding along its surface.

"Open...dress..." She found herself obeying the words once again, bending down as she went through the draws almost as if guided by an unseen presence. Her mind was blank as to what she was looking for, but her body knew.

After only a few seconds the vixen pulled out a completely fresh change of clothes, old modest bra and panties, old Nordic dress, even matching gloves and socks to go with them. She'd set them out on the top of the wardrobe before giving herself another look in the mirror - a minute passing before she watched as her arms moved to disrobe her.

"Vessa..." Another whisper pierced into her mind, its icy breath seeming to go even deeper than before as it whispered an eerily familiar name - seeming to echo along with her own in her thoughts.

She found herself smirking, the expressionless dull trance gone from her face as it was replaced with a lively smug glare. Her blue eyes now shown as a dull hazel as they reflected back at her - a detached feeling to her own gaze. The vixen quickly took off the rest of her attire as she threw it into a useless heap on the floor beside her, new clothes already in her hands by the time the old threads hit the ground.

As soon as the clothes touched her she felt her trace break - though just barely enough to let her watch on as her body continued to move on its own, leaving the vixen confused as the stranger's clothes slowly clad her body. She could feel her skin tingle under the fabric - sparks of energy coursing through her that tickled and numbed.

"W-where am I?" She spoke, the words barely coming out as a whisper as her hot breath turned to steam in the ice-cold air. "W-what am I...doing?"

She struggled to move her arms, doing little more than causing them to tremble slightly as they continued to dress her. With more clothes over her body she happened a glance at the mirror - a few scattered memories hitting her mind and sending a shock through her body. The sudden burst of thoughts confusing the vixen as voices began to echo across her mind.

"Vessa...come...back"

The ethereal voice that had whispered to her before returned now as more memories flooded her thoughts, the ghostly echo melting away into the chorus already screaming in her mind. She would feel its icy grip slowly push into her mind, deeper and deeper as it froze all in its path - locking her own old memories away before letting them shatter under the assault from the new flood of unfamiliar images and voices.

"Vessa...Vessa"

"N-no...m-my name....my name?" The vixen continued her desperate internal struggle as memories continued to scatter away like dust.

With each look at her own reflection a little bit more of her would fade away - the image of her in those old clothes sending a flood of memories of a life she had never led into her mind to wash away the old. The voice that was a whisper inside her mind would slowly grow louder and louder as well until her own thoughts were little more than a whisper echoing through a mind she no longer fully owned.

The tingling across her body would grow as well, and she would be forced to watch from the prison her body had become as she changed. Each piece of clothing seemed to fit to her body, or more so her body fitting to the clouds. She hadn't noticed the subtle changes that had already taken places, the small shifts in the shape of her face or her round ears - but now as the fur fell from her hands and her reddish coat darkened she was aware of each tiny detail.

Fear would once again consuming what little of her thoughts she had left as she was helpless to witness the changes, desperately crying out for help within her own mind as that smug smirk seemed to stare into her very soul. She could swear she could even see the faded reflection of a mouse over her own face in the mirror - every second making the two that much more indistinguishable.

"M-my...body..."

Her voice echoed in a ethereal rasp as she felt her smooth fur grow more course and thin, hair darkening to match her coat as her muzzle shifted into a more fine smooth point. She could see her swishing tail in the reflection growing thin as the fur withered away - leaving it as a hairless whip that darted about in anticipation.

"N-no..." Her eyes flickered to a blue as she tried again to fight against the stronger presence, barely breaking through as she tore her gaze from the mirror to look down over her body.

"I...have to..." Her hands would slowly move to grip at her clothes, trembling as she struggled to keep control over them. "I-I have to..."

"Change...Vessa..."

"Vessa..." She repeated the words as the smug smirk came to her face again, eyes changing to the same hazel they were before as she looked into the mirror - this time to see no vixen there at all.

The last few features from her old life had been erased from her face, memories following suit as they lost themselves in the new flood that came with each new detail she took in and recalled. Eyes darted around the room - furniture and paintings jogging pieces in a life long buried.

"Yes..." The mouse chirred after a few minutes of recollection, feeling the small voice screaming ever more desperately in her mind start to fade away. "I'm back~ Vessa lives again!"

Her voice rang out through the room, arms raising as another swirl of ethereal light flowed around her - two orbs swirling around her stomach as her gaze looked down towards them. She could recognize them as the souls of her two long dead sons - tears almost filling her eyes as she happily accepted them into her new form.

"Y-yes my children, your sleepless torment is finally over...I will mother you again, we will live again." Her eyes closed as she felt them push into her, belly swelling as new life grew inside of her - furless hands gliding down across her gravid stomach.

"So much better..." Her rounded ears would flick as she turned her attention to the cracked window, a few concerned shouts reaching her ears. "Time to deal with some more unwanted guests~"

***

"Alex? ALEX!!" Her friends shouts got louder and louder. Nearly an hour passed since the vixen disappeared into the mansion, and not a single word from her had been heard since. The three hadn't been too concerned when her flashlight had disappeared from the bottom floor, but now with the sun peaking over the horizon they felt knots form in their throats. "Alexan--!"

The shouting would suddenly come to a halt as the door to the house slowly swung open, Vessa slowly walking out into the dimly lit porch, smile still wide across her face.

"A-Alex? H-holy shit...W-who are you?" Matt pulled himself back, the wolf's ears going flat against his head as his eyes went wide.

"My name is Vessa von Sterling...and you all are trespassing on my property with your filthy canine paws." The doe lifted up her hand, one still resting on her stomach as a flurry of spectral orbs shot from the house.

"F-fuck! R-run!" Anthony shot out, turning with the others before tripping on the muddy ground - face planted into darkness to spare him from seeing the orb that shot into him.

"A-anthony, n-no!" Matt tried to run back to help his friend, the tug of his mate stopping him as she desperately tried to guide him towards the property's gate.

Both watched on in horror as their friend's body started to convulse, skin and fur burning away as his body was consumed in a bright spectral blaze that nearly blinded both of them. By the time the burning greenish embers faded their friend was no more - his foxy form completely consumed by a rat, his muscular nude form exposed as he slowly rose.

"O-oh Don..." Rebecca let go of Matt as she sprinted towards the gate, the she-wolf screaming and yelping as she shook the rusted metal bars as hard as she could. "H-help, please! Someone!"

She would be the next to fall, the shouts of warning from her boyfriend who was rushing after her falling on deaf ears as another orb hit her - knocking her to the ground as her body began to convulse just as Anthony's. She would try to put up a fight, her voice distorting as the green flames slowly engulfed her - hands desperately reaching for her boyfriend who was now paralyzed in fear.

He would be helpless to watch as the green flames faded, revealing the auburn fur of his love replaced with a tan coat - her pointy ears now rounded as her red eyes glared at him through the dim flicking street-lights. She too, was gone - replaced, consumed, changed. Slowly she would rise, naked as her hairless hand reached out towards him as a mockery of the relationship he had with who the specter had consumed.

"Join me, will you...my love?" Matt would hear chuckles from all around, a final orb swirling around as the three Rodents slowly walked towards him - cornering every route of escape.

The wolf would drop to his knees after a few desperate looks around - mind and body hardly able to cope with the events of the past few seconds. His friends and lover taken away by a force he couldn't comprehend, one he didn't even believe in. He would only manage a single sorrowful look towards his former lover before feeling the searing heat of the orb jolt through his body - mind going pure white as he accepted his fate.
