What followed next was an epic battle as Sonic was forced to fight his former friends as Mogul began to corrupt them one by one, finding the Pandemonium Rubies. In the end, Mogul had won and left Sonic comatose for three weeks, ruling Mobius as the god-like being Sin Mogul. Sonic had awakened and with the help of Nicole, the holographic lynx, had found seven new gemstones, the Freedom Sapphires. The Sapphires turned Sonic into a new form, dubbed Hyper Sonic, and he had battled Sin Mogul one last time and triumphed. Mogul had fled, and Sonic had destroyed both the Pandemonium Rubies and the Freedom Sapphires, freeing all of Mobius in the process.
However, almost a month of slavery under Mogul's control had taken its toll on the citizens of Mobius, both good and evil. Many were traumatized by the actions they had taken under Mogul's control. So a time of recovery and healing had begun. Even Dr. Ivo Robotnik seemed to be willing to put his plans for world domination on hold as the planet slowly recovered from the damage Mogul had caused.
