In a basement, late at night, in a dingy accursed basement. A murder of hooded figures discussing un-utterable deeds gather materials for a daemonic ritual. The figures pray to their accursed serpent god, chanting tomes of eldritch power from books that once belonged to ancient races long forgotten. One of the hooded figures, clad in black and gold robes, started drawing ritualistic symbols in blood on the cold, concrete floor. A different figure pulled from a bag a common corn snake and placed it in the center of the blood symbols. " A corn snake really, " asked the black and gold one.

" It was the best I could do." A hooded grunt in all black answered sheepishly.

" I hope your best is good enough or you'll be the sacrifice next time. Now everyone gather around let's start the summoning." The hooded figures surrounded the blood symbol and started chanting an unholy incantation. The leader opened up a grotesque book of some kind that seemed to be made of human flesh and written in a mixture of blood and ink. He flipped through the pages finding a picture of Yig, Father of serpents. Now the leader was starting to chant, but his were different from the others, as if he spoke with two tongues.

An unearthly magic began to stir lighting the blood a blaze. The flame started to twist and turn, whipping around violently forming a fiery sphere around the corn snake. All of a sudden the horrible sphere contracted then expanded, erupting in a hellish blaze. The figures were all sent to floor and a new serpent laid in the center of the ritual. It had wings with feathers and emerald eyes the burned with fury. Anxious and confused by it's new surroundings, the serpent whipped around the small room. Unleashing a breath of flaming death, burning the cultists alive. Some screamed in agony as their flesh was scorched to black cinders. The others fled, realizing they've made a mistake to bring such a horror in to this world. This was not their god, something went wrong with the eldritch ritual.

Back in the charred basement, everything was blackened and burnt to a crisp. The serpent fed on the remains of an unfortunate soul who was caught by the flame. Human meat, the creature thought, I must be back on Earth. After being imprisoned in a tower out in the nethers, to have freedom again is a blessing that won't go to waste. Now that the serpent has regained it's strength, he decided to escape this putrid room and explore this new world.

Sam cursed to himself as he fumbled with the keys to the outside door to his apartment. As he inserted the key with the lock, droplets of rain began to fall from the sky. Looking up, Sam saw dark clouds gather above him. What started as a couple of drops became numerous bullets of water assaulting the earth. Then the key made an unlocking sound and gave way to the small apartment.

The interior of the home had a simple layout with the cheapest Ikea could offer. It was small including a living room kitchen combo, one bathroom and one bedroom. To Sam is was in his haven as he threw his backpack to the floor, strode down the hall in to the bathroom and began to strip naked to shower. He was anxious about going out with his friend tonight, it was his first time going to a club since Sam turned twenty one. His anxiety began to wash away as the cool water poured on the young man's ivory body, medium length hair soaked by water and off brand shampoo. For almost thirty minutes Sam cleaned himself and relaxed in the shower, he had to summon much of his strength to turn the soothing water off. Sam stepped out of the shower and stared at himself in the foggy mirror. As the condensation dissipated his prominent features were shown. A skinny white kid with slim cheeks with frosted tips against coffee brown hair stared back at him. Then a buzz broke his concentration. It was Sam's cell phone vibrating inside a front pocket of his dirty, faded black jeans. The young man grabbed his only towel, wrapped it around his waist, then dug out the device from his dirty jeans on the floor. It shined the name Tessa with a text message that read "OMW see you soon".

Sam pressed for time, scrambled out of the bathroom across to the bedroom, ripping open dresser drawers and the closet sliding door. Clothes flew across the room on to his bed. Nothing seemed to especially stand out to Sam. This was getting stressful, why did he have to go out and be awkward with strangers when Sam could just stay home? Then again he knew having fun wasn't the main reason for being dragged out. Tessa recently has been on a personal mission to get Sam a new boyfriend with minimal results, whether it be uncomfortable blind dates or painful surprise visits from Tessa accompanied by her pick of hot man of the week. After emptying out his closet and knowing there was no time left, Sam gave up and threw on what he usually wore, a black T-shirt with a subtle nerdy reference on it, some tight fitting black jeans and a pair of short socks.

Thump* Thump* Thump*. A rattle at the door gave Sam a fright as he exited his bedroom. He fumbled with the lock on the decrepit door attempting to unlock it in a hasty manner. With a firm grip Sam gently twisted the knob to unveil his best friend, Tessa. A young girl about the same age as Sam with hazel eyes, milk chocolate skin, and braided hair as black as the abyss. Without permission or word she stepped inside debilitating Sam with a much needed warm hug.

" How have you been recluse?"

" I'm fine Tessa, how are you?"

" I am great because I'm taking you clubbing," She exclaimed in an almost joyous cruel way. This revelation left a portrait of dread on Sam's pale face. With a tight gulp he asked,

" Do we have to, I thought we could order a pizza and watch a movie."

" Like almost every time we hang out, no, sorry hun You need to snap out of this depression. Get out of your apartment, meet people, maybe hook up with someone." That final implication sent Sam's mind reeling, the very thought of meeting someone then within an hour or so engage in any kind of intimacy set off an atom bomb of questions and worries. Tessa recognized the horror being processed in Sam's eyes and quickly followed up with " I'll be shadowing you so if anything goes wrong I'll be there to scoop you up and and evacuate us back hear. Then you have my full permission to tell me how stupid this idea was."
