A short story which a changeling and an artist make a simple deal to help one another.

"What should we do today?" spoke a voice with reverb.

"You mean, what should 'I' do today?" replies another voice.

It was a studio apartment, where two beings simple converse with one another. However, it was noticeable that they were rather different. The voice with reverb was a changeling, an insect equine that fed on...well...love. Love is universal, and there is many different versions of it. The other being was a grey cat of sun orange eyes, and around his eyes were two big circles of differentiating shade and tint. He wore average things, but he is special with his silvery hair, and the host of this situation. How so? Well...

"You could draw today Hallow." Suggested the changeling.

The feline made a remark. "Well, I have to get food first Fairy. And clean my apartment, you could help with that you know."

The changeling went silent, knowing it was totally possible. But there was also a frown, he did not like his nickname 'Fairy', as his full name was Fairy Wasp. This little blue eyed changeling was a little flustered in realization, while the feline huffs. "For starters, just sweep the floor. I'm not sure how hooves work in your world."

"Like hands." Said the changeling.

A shrug was a response, then the feline simply went outside of the apartment. Shopping was his prime objective, and the nearest store was at least a few minutes away. It was good at times to live in an apartment, everything you need is often nearby. He would have taken a stroll to the store, but he feared of lifting excessive heavy weights. Instead, he took the car. A quick startup and the small red vehicle revs alive. The turn takes him to the road, in which he heads to the grocery store.

Fairy Wasp wasn't allowed outside of the house. His own species was very unfamiliar with the residence of the planet. Not that he minded, he was quite different for a changeling. Instead of aggression during his birth, he had...indifference. It's not that he did not feel anything, but it was beyond the normal behavior of a changeling. Fairy Wasp was not very aggressive or ruthless. He just...watched, and looked at everything. The opinions of the other changelings did not bother him, he kept thinking with indifference as his template, a but of both sides.

Then without warning he just left the hive altogether. Just, poof, and he was gone. No signs, nor behavior, nothing. But of course, a changeling does not survive easily on their own. Their strength is in numbers, and he is, after all, just one. He set out to the world, traversing to other places, and for a while he did alright. He managed to get to France, or at least the version of France in his world. So much love there to feast on. But he got kicked out as the population took notice of him.

Everything crashed after that. He was just something dying on the road, somewhere he should not be. And before he passed out from the lack of love, he saw a grey figure looking down at him.

Hallow was picking up some foods such as those ice cream sandwiches, which are his favorite dessert. There was also beef ramen, salad vegetables, and instant baking foods; the stuff you put in a cup, fill with water, and heat until it is baked. He was going to the cashier to pay for them, but someone managed to get to him before he could get in line. It was a black and white gypsy horse, though the hair is a little cut to see properly.

"You must be Six Verses!" the horse exclaims.

"Uh...yes I am. Do you need something?" questioned Hallow.

"Oh yes," he was rather enthusiastic, taking out a folded piece of paper, and unfolding it to reveal a rather amateur drawing of a winged fox. It had rainbow eyes as its greatest feature. "I would like you to draw my character. I can pay you now if you like."

"Well...I can do that. Just let me do this really quick." Taking out his phone, he turned it on to snap a picture as for reference. "You can pay me later. Just have the money ready once I am finished." The smile of the feline was soft and shy, as one who did not talk much.

"Thank you! I'll get to you once Worlds Con begins!" bowing with respect, the horse returns to his usual demeanor and takes his leave.

Fairy Wasp was cleaning the floor, sweeping up the dust and hairs shed by the feline. He could watch the television, but he wanted to save himself from future embarrassment. But all the hard work was getting to him, the changeling was craving for love. It should not be long before Hallow came back, right? That is what worried Fairy Wasp, sometimes he would just suddenly take longer than usual.

Just as he was about to put the piled dust into the trash, the doorknob was being unlocked. Fairy Wasp tensed up, hoping it was not someone he is unfamiliar with. Fortunately, seventy-five percent of the time, it is usually just Hallow. And in this case it is, the feline had taken the grocery bags from the car and set them down, placing all frozen foods in the fridge and the cans in the cupboards.

"That's a lot of food." Commented Fairy Wasp.

"You feed on love right? Well, does that mean it tastes like anything?" came a question.

There was a simple reply of "No." before he swept the dust into the garbage bin.

The cat takes to his computer, checking his mail. There was a division between his personal stuff and business. In this case, he had many commissions to fill out, a hundred at best.

"Oh wow. This is gonna be a doozy." Sighing as he had to witness each character and their unique properties.

"This was part of our deal after all." Added the changeling.

"Right." He took out some pencils from the next door cupboard, while many papers from the shelf beside his work table. "Ready?"

"Of course." And thus, the changeling began to feed.

Hallow's eyes glowed green, under the influence of the changeling. Fairy Wasp had found his source of love, and amplified it to his needs. Hallow saw everything he loved in his eyes, while relishing in this influence the changeling had commanded his body to draw and sketch. Inhuman speed sketched out these characters that many people have commissioned him to make. Regardless of maturity of the content, nor the depravity, he drew under influence. This was a gift thanks to the changeling. While he fed, there was less to worry, and more or less, his body simply went through the motions without any inhibiting thoughts. It was truly a relationship that would benefit both of them, but Fairy Wasp grew anxious.

When waking from his starved slumber, the changeling had caught the sight of the cat drawing. It wasn't that bad, in fact, he was currently improving his works of drawing. Back then, the cat was just starting out his commission business, with obscenely cheap price as from self doubt. Fairy Wasp was on the brink of starvation, quickly sensing love from the feline. It was not like of that compared to true love in relationship, but quite close. The feline loved to draw.

Without thought he quickly began draining the love from the feline. The pace of the drawing was increased, his style remained the same but was made at a quicker interval. When finished with the drawing, he just took out a paper and drew again. When the pencil ran out of lead, he sharpened it. And when the pencil was too short to draw with, he took out another pencil. So many ideas swirl in his mind yet only a trickle of them ever manage to make it into paper form. But with the changeling by his side, that trickle turned into a puddle, much more than compared to his usual pace.

Fairy Wasp continued to consume the love the feline had for his works, except he snapped out of his enthrall over nourishment and soon realized there was something wrong. The wrist and fingers of the artist was a shade of purple, a sign of bruising. His limits have been pushed, but now it was to the point where the feline wanted to draw but his twitching hand refused to respond. The changeling tried to force him to work again but it resulted in a meek carry of the pencil before it just rolled out of his deeply damaged fingertips.

But Fairy Wasp had wised up, now realizing the danger of his situation. As he exiled himself, he has nearly destroyed his source of love. He came with the idea that a deal can be made, something which both can benefit. But...is it too late for that now? Fairy Wasp has practically destroyed that chance through his feeding. But he cannot keep this up any longer, the cat was slowly released from the influence while feeding.

His scream was silent, comprehending what just happened. He saw his bruised hand and tears crawled from his eyes and dive bomb down his cheeks. Fairy Wasp didn't have to look to know how he felt. The first scream did that for him, a painful wail of despair. And Fairy Wasp blamed himself in belief that he destroyed the artist's hand, and thus can never draw again.

A week passed since then, the changeling could not even so much as go close to the feline without possibly getting harassed or threatened. And each time it reminded him of what happened and thus felt bad for it. He had to make it up somehow. With his hand in a cast, the cat seemed lethargic and lacking. Another strike to his heart, it was as if he destroyed him from the inside. That shame turned into regret, finding a way to pay back as an apology.

His new idea came to mind, he does have some minor healing magic. He transmuted his form to a unicorn, some victim that he took for camouflage when he was still part of the hive. And from there he casted his magic into a form of unicorn magic, slowly surrounding the cast in a grass green glow. The feline turned to the glow, a bit of astonishment came to his eyes. The glow fades, Fairy Wasp did all he could. He tried it before in a few of his siblings, light gashes and cuts often closed as a result. But seeing how purple the bruise was, he doubted he did any true repair.

Fairy Wasp asked with submissive tone. "Does it feel okay?"

A mere turn of his head was all the changeling got, then a test flex from the fingers. After that, the changeling forced himself out of the situation, feeling his attempt did work but if he stayed too long it would backfire.

But as he left came a new idea, just heal his hand, little by little, before the cat awakens. It was a good enough idea. And that is what he did, the changeling often stayed up late and watched as the cat grew dreary before falling asleep. He would wait for a few minutes to ensure that waking up shall prove itself difficult before casting another healing spell through his transformation. Then once said and done, leave the feline alone to sort out his emotions, clearly intervening had proven itself dangerous as he had a broom thrown at him as he stayed too close.

It has been two months since then, Hallow had sorted out his frustrations and had forgiven the changeling. And with expression, they came to agreement in which they shall have a relationship in symbiosis. Thanks to Fairy Wasp, Hallow is more productive with his commissions, and has gained quite a name for himself. And thankfully Hallow is pretty humble of a person himself, the fame does not go to his head as others might have.

What would have taken a month or so in healing had been reduced to two weeks. And Hallow was thankful as he had practicing to catch up. And as of today, he has slightly improved on his works. Now it is time to stop feeding. Slowly released the influence from the cat.

He reeled in pain. It was a series of "ow" and sharp breathing to deal with the burning sensation of overworked muscle. "I did..." counting the papers he has sketched. "...fifty. Good enough, Worlds Con is in two weeks, so we are on track."

Fairy Wasp was quenched of his famish, smiling as he had done a good service. "You're welcome Hallow. Do you want to continue with this?"

The feline shook his head. "Nah, we have some free time now. Want to watch some TV?"

Fairy Wasp cringed. "Please not My Little Pony."

"...alright. At least not when you are around." Snickered the cat.
