He wanted a short story of his character Mei getting turned into a police dog! So Mei visits the police station on a middle school field trip. He's really interested in seeing some of the German Shepherds that work with the officers and winds up getting a closer look than he ever anticipated.

The Station's New Dog

Today was the 8th grade field ship. Mei's class was visiting the police station to learn more about how they were involved in the community. Then there was some kind of presentation planned at the end for anyone who wanted to go into the police force when they grew up. Mei had to admit... He was maybe interested in that... But there was one thing that he wanted to know a lot more about.

"Alright everyone stay close as we tour the station!" A police officer addresses the class. "I'll show you everything here! Well except the evidence room." The police officer laughed as if this was a joke. The students merely gave him an unimpressed stare. "Well okay then... Be sure to raise your hand if you have any questions."

Mei raised his hand immediately at this. "Do you have any dogs at the station?" He asked.

"You're interested in our police dog program?" The officer laughed. "Sorry but we don't have any dogs here today. The one we had was assigned to another station. We're supposed to get a new one but I don't think the chief has done the paperwork yet."

"Oh..." Mei replied sadly.

"But we've got lots of other things to see!" The officer said. "Come on kids follow me and I'll show you where our phones are!" Most of the students shuffled after the cop. They were less than energetic about the trip but did as they were told. Mei hung back slightly. He drifted in the direction everyone else went but walked slowly as he was lost in his thoughts. He paused for a moment when he walked by a door that caught his interests. He examines the writing on the door.

K-9 Unit

K-9 meant dog right? Mei knew he had been told there were no dogs here... But he couldn't resist a small peak. Looking around to make sure no one was watching Mei opened the door and slipped inside.

Inside the room there were several kennels where the dogs might have been kept. Each if then was empty right now. There were also an assortment of bowls and food around the room and what looked like squeaky toys. What really caught his eyes though was an item hanging by itself on the wall. It was a single black vest with the word 'Police' written across it. It wasn't a vest for a human person. It was clearly meant for a dog.

At this point Mei couldn't explain what he was doing. He didn't know what came over him. He was in a room he probably wasn't allowed to be. He was probably in enough trouble as is... But instead of leaving he walked further into the room and slowly towards the wall the vest hung off of. He took notice of the vest... Even though it was shaped for a dog it was big enough to fit his body.

Mei took the dog vest off the wall. He didn't know why. He wasn't that interested in the canine unit at the station. It was as if there was a cloud over his mind and he couldn't think clearly. He held the vest in his arms and examined it. He could smell the scent of dog coming off of it.

Some part of his mind nagged at him. It asked him what he was doing. Told him he had to leave before he got in trouble. For some reason he couldn't hear that part of his mind. Then for a reason he would never know he put the dog vest on over his shirt. It fit perfectly.

The fog seemed to clear from Mei's mind. He suddenly realized what he was doing and looked down at himself in shock. He had just trespassed in the police station and now he was stealing something meant for their dogs!? He quickly tried to take the vest off... But he froze as he placed his hands on it. Something was wrong. He looked at the back of his hands. Dark brown and black hair was growing over his hand. Right before his eyes the hair grew in until both sides of his hands were covered in thick fur. He turned his hands around to look at his palms... There soft black pads were forming.

"W-what's going on!?" Mei forgot about the vest and stared at his hands in horror. The fur continues up from his hands reaching his wrists. From there it traveled up his arms to his shoulders. As it did he heard a clicking noise coming from inside his arms. It was his bones, as they were reshaping beneath his skin. His hands had transformed into the paws of an animal while his arms were starting to look like animalist forelegs.

The fur continued to spread over Mei's body. It reached his back and chest covering it. Then it continued to spread down to Mei's stomach and up to his head. As fur grew in over his head there were more popping noises as his face pushed out into a muzzle. His ears stretched out into long triangles and moved to the top of his head.

"S-s-top!" Mei tried to plead. "Plea- woof aaaaarf!" As his head took on the shape of a dog's his voice changed to the barks of an animal. He continued to bark and cry for help but no matter how he tried he couldn't form words.

The line of black and brown fur reached Mei's lower back. As it did the tip of his tailbone began to stretch out. His shorts were pulled down as a long fluffy brown and black tail grew out from his backside. The tail immediately came to life with a mind of its own, hiding between Mei's legs showing his fear at his current situation.

The fur reached Mei's legs and covered both them and his feet. He stumbled out of his sandals as his feet like his hands before made popping noises and changed shape. Pads formed on the bottom of his feet while his nails formed into short black claws. Soon they were normal dog paws.

Mei at this point lost his balance. His legs could no longer support him standing on two legs. He fell forward landing on all fours. The stance now felt natural to him and he couldn't understand why. He slowly stepped out of his shorts now dressed in only his shirt and the dog vest. He didn't feel very exposed though. His entire body was covered in fur. There was no trace of humanity left of him. He was now just a dog. He looked like one of the German Shepherds he had seen working with the police all the time.

Mei tried to escape. He ran for the door and jumped against it. He pawed against the door and whined trying to open it. However without hands he couldn't turn the knob and had no way to escape. He barked loudly calling for help hoping someone could find him and change him back.

The door opened.

It was the police officer who had been guiding his class mates. "What is all that racket?" The officer asked as he opened the door. He looked down at Mei and gave him a quizzical look. "Wait... We got the new dog already? The chief must have been more on the ball than I thought."

"Arf! Woof!" Mei tried to explain that he wasn't a dog. He was a boy! But the officer couldn't understand him.

"There there!" The officer bent down and began to pet Mei on the head. "Excitable fellow aren't you?" As Mei felt himself be petted he started to wag his tail. He couldn't help it. It was a pleasant sensation and he found himself calming down. "What is with all these clothes?" The officer asked looking around the room. "And how did you get tangled up in that?" In a swift motion the officer relieved Mei of his shirt. Now Mei was left wearing only the canine vest over his body.

"Arooooooo!" Mei whined and tried to bite at his shirt to claim it back.

"No bad!" The officer tugged the shirt away from Mei. "Did you steal these from the lost and found? Honestly... I see we're going to have a hard time training you." Then the officer paused as if remembering something. "Where was that boy? The one who wanted to see the dogs... I bet he'd be delighted to meet you."

"Arrrrrrrrf." Mei tilted his head and whined. He was trying to tell the officer he was right here.

"He's probably already back on the bus." The officer shrugged. "Well... Let's get you someplace where you'll make less of a mess. Come on boy. Heel!" The officer turned and walked out of the room.

"Arrrrf..." Mei replied sadly as he walked at the officer's side.

"That's a good boy!" The officer patted Mei on the side. Mei couldn't explain why... But... He found it pleasant. He wanted to be called a good boy again and get more pets. He began to wag his tail. "Awww seems like someone is in a better mood! Maybe you just needed to get out of that room. Alright, as long as you're good you can have free run of the station."

"WOOF!" Mei gave a happy bark to indicate he agreed. He could be good! He wanted to be a good dog! He didn't want to be locked back up in the room.

"If I didn't know better... I'd say you understood me." The officer laughed. "Hmmmm I think we still have some treats from the last set of dogs..." He paused and stopped at a desk and opened it. He dug through before producing a box. From within the box he produced what looked like some kind of bone shaped cookie. It smelled weird though. He tossed it on the ground at Mei's feet.

"Aroo?" Mei tilted his head. Was he expected to eat that? And right off the ground?

"Go on it's okay!" The officer said. "You're going to be a good boy right?" Those were the magic words. Mei bent over and picked up the dog treat in an instant.

The flavor... It was unlike anything he had ever tasted before. Maybe it was just because he was a dog now, but this was amazing! In two bites the treat was gone and Mei was licking his lips.

"Liked that huh?" The officer asked. "Well there's a lot more where that came from if you do well in your training."

Despite his situation Mei found himself wagging his tail. He was really starting to like the officer. He called him a good boy and gave him treats! And he promised more treats in the future! He couldn't help but feel if he was forgetting something important... But right now all he cared about was being a good boy.

And so Mei's police training began the next day.

The End
