Well, this is my first time uploading to SoFurry.

And this is also my first Dinosaur Train story. So I hope you all enjoy it.

All feedback is appreciated, even negative feedback, as long as it's constructive criticism. Anything that isn't constructive criticism I'll most likely ignore, as it won't help me in any way.

Special thanks to Daneasaur for helping me out a little with this chapter. :)

Anyways, I'm done talking, without further ado, here is "Lost Into The Past!"

Chapter 1: A strange new world

It was a lovely day in Houston Texas, 70 degree weather, mid-day, everything seemed perfect. Keyword, "seemed".

In the middle of town was a small run-down house, the white paint on it chipping, and some of the shingles were falling, at first glance, it would seem abandoned, if not for the car parked out front, and porch light being on.

Nathan, a 20 year old man wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans, was laying in his bed, staring up at the ceiling. He soon sat up and looked around his room.

The beautiful flower wallpaper was falling apart, the nice gray carpet was filthy, and his bed, a total mess.

The house was already in the shape it was when Nathan bought it, He had gotten a pretty good deal on it, and he didn't care, seeing as he had moved out of his parents house and badly needed somewhere to live. Along with that, the stress of moving for the first time got to him, and working with a boss that didn't like him, didn't help in the slightest. However, he didn't let it discourage him, in fact, he seemed happy with what he had. Smiling, he got out of his bed and streched, letting out a tired yawn as he did so.

"Man... Living out on your own is tougher than I thought..." He said to himself as he grabbed his glasses on the bedside table and put them on, then he gave one more stretch before walking to his living room. And like his bedroom, the area was just as out of shape, with the carpet being dirty, and the wallpaper falling apart, although it wasn't as bad. But he didn't care, he was just happy to simply have a roof over his head.

"One of these days, I gotta fix this house up..." He muttered. sighing a little as he sat on a recliner in the corner, switched on the TV, and began to channel-surf out of sheer boredom.

He slowly moved his eyes over to the stack of boxes sitting in one of the other corners, He still had to unpack...

"Well... I guess being productive is better than doing this..." He said to himself as he stood up once again and walked over to the stack of boxes. He grabbed one of the boxes and lifted it, letting out a brief grunt he did so.

Nathan then walked back to the recliner and sat down before looking at the box.

He smiled when he saw what it was labeled.

"Prehistoric stuff." He read. Nathan had always had a fondness of dinosaurs and prehistoric things. Heck, he's always wanted to study fossils, so he made it a goal of his to become a Paleontologist.

He slowly opened the box and took out some old fossils he found, they were just fossilized leaves, but they meant the world to him. However, Nathan snapped out of his thoughts as he looked at a clock, his eyes widening a little.

"Crud! I'm gonna be late for work!" He yelled as he quickly closed the box and set it down, before jumping up and rushing to get ready for the day.

As Nathan parked his car, he looked up at the building he worked at, It was an office building for tech support, not the job he wanted, but a job that he needed. Nathan quickly snapped out of his thoughts and practically tumbled out of his car, he made sure it was locked before running in, managing to make it just in time. Nathan slowed down and panted heavily, when he looked up he was face to face with his boss. An older looking man with a stubble on his face, he straightened his tie and glared a little at Nathan.

"You were almost late.." He said coldly, his glare intensifying.

"I-I know sir... I was... caught up with something..." Nathan said, looking down at his feet. His boss scoffed a little and said.

"You're lucky you made it, cause if you were at least one minute late, you know what I'd have to do..." Nathans' Boss leaned in closer "I'm sure you don't want that... Do you...?"

"N-No sir..." Nathan stuttered a little.

"Good... Now get to work!" Nathans' Boss raised his voice, causing Nathan to jump a little and walk quickly to his cubicle. He slowly sat down at his desk, sighing a little.

The work day was pretty uneventful, someone called with a problem, and sometimes they were directed to Nathan. Everything went by pretty slowly.

Now it was break time, Nathan would usually keep to himself, He was never good with conversation, and was always insecure and shy about himself, He would not even engage in conversation unless prompted. He would usually sit by himself, lost in thought. Sometimes someone would come and say hi, and ask how his day has been. Nathan would usually respond with, "Hey." and "Same as always." And that was the end of it.

Soon, the day ended and he was finally able to leave... Or so he thought.

He was called into his bosses office out of nowhere. Nathan, not wanting to upset his boss, went to his office, as he entered he could feel his bosses cold gaze. Making him shiver a little.

"Nathan, sit down please." His boss gestured to a seat in front of his desk. Nathan slowly nodded and obeyed, sitting down and looking down at the ground. He slowly looked up at his boss and muttered.

"y-you wanted to see me sir...?" Nathans' Boss rolled his eyes.

"Speak up kid! We talked about this your first day!" He yelled. Nathan yelped and repeated what he said.

"Y-You wanted to see me sir?!" He said a little too loudly.

"Yes, to put it simply, you're fired." His boss said in a very blunt and harsh tone. This news caused Nathans eyes to go wide.

"F-F-Fired?! But why?!" He asked, very shocked by this news "W-What did I do?!" He added.

"You haven't been meeting your job quota lately, which means you aren't competent enough for this job!" Nathans' former boss yelled. "Now, clean up your desk and leave!"

Nathan was gonna argue, but he couldn't find his voice, he instead nodded and stood up, before walking off and getting ready to clean his desk off.

Nathan didn't know what to do now, without job, how could he pay his bills?! He didn't know!

Instead of going home, He decided to go to his favorite dig-site from when he was about 15. That's where he dug up and found a lot of the small fossils he had.

As he parked near it and left his car, he slowly walked over to a deep trench. The place had since become an actual fossil dig-site, so he was able to watch the excavators working. I'm sure they wouldn't mind him going down there, considering there was no one around to see him intrude either.

Nathan carefully slid down the slope that lead to the dig-site, he looked around, a small smile on his face as he scanned the area.

He slowly began to walk around the site, smiling a little as he looking at a lot of the areas that were being dug up. Nathan stopped in his tracks though, seeing an area that was closed off with caution tape, as he stepped closer he realized that there was a giant hole in the ground, it seemed like it led to a cave, maybe they were gonna seal the hole?

Nathans curiosity got the better of him and he decided to look down the hole. He slowly and carefully made his way to it. He crawled under the caution tape and looked into the hole. it was very dark in there, he couldn't even see the bottom.

He was about to get up and walk away, but his hand suddenly slipped and he began to tumble into the hole.

"G-Gaaaaaaaaahhh!" Nathan yelled as he continued to tumble, then the next thing he knew, he blacked out.

Nathan slowly opened his eyes, groaning a little, he looked around and found himself in an almost pitch black tunnel, it would've been pitch black if it wasn't for the several multi-colored lights passing by him.

W-What the...? He thought to himself as he stood up and brushed the dirt off of him. However, something was instantly wrong the moment he saw his arms.

His once human arm was now orange and scaly! And he had 3 fingers with sharp claws. He tried to look at the rest of his body, but it was too dark to make out. For now Nathan decided to push forward.

As he walked, he noticed a bright light at the end of the tunnel, he started to panic a little. Was this the afterlife? Was he dead? He couldn't wrap his mind around the situation!

As he entered the light, his vision cleared and what he saw was breathtaking. He was now in an area filled with lush green plants, the trees seemed awfully familiar looking to him, He looked back at where he came from and saw that it was a normal cave, and it looked like he couldn't go back.

Nathan took a brief moment to look at himself, now that he was in the light. The first thing he realized was his clothes were gone, on top of that, his feet were now three toed, with a giant toe-claw on both feet. W-What am I?! He thought to himself, feeling another wave of panic. He was trying to think rationally now.

He scratched his head a little as he thought, but his eyes widened yet again when he realized that he had feathers on his head too, they didn't feel very big, but they were there.

What creature do I know that has three toed feet, feathers on their head, three fingered hands with claws, and giant toe-claws...? Then it hit Nathan like a ton of bricks.

"A-Am I a troodon?!" He asked himself, before quickly covering his mouth, His voice was higher pitched! Now that he thought about it, the area he was in seemed pretty big. especially for a person of his size.

His mind went back to the current situation however... That he was a 20 year old man, turned into a prehistoric creature from the late Cretaceous time period, and from the sound of his voice, he sounded like a child. The question is, HOW?! Was it a dream? Maybe his image of the afterlife? Who knows?

"Maybe I can find out WHEN I am." He said to himself, though he didn't really think he could ask anyone, cause if his hunch was correct, he was in the Mesozoic era, which probably means that if he talked to a creature, they most likely wouldn't talk back. He soon began to walk down a random path, unsure as to where he might be going.

Nathan had been walking for ages it seemed, not only was he tired, but hungry. He mentally slapped himself for not eating anything for dinner.

He was so tired he didn't realize he was walking onto train tracks. He felt his eyes drooping and his body felt weak. He stopped in his tracks and fell down, passing out on the tracks.

Meanwhile, The Dinosaur Train was chugging along, following it's usual schedule, The Conductor; whom everyone just refers to as Mr. Conductor, was walking around the passenger carts and punching tickets, as well as making sure everything was in tip-top shape. Laura the Giganotosaurus was doing her job too, keeping a close eye on the train tracks in case anything had fallen onto them, and much to her surprise, she did see something on the tracks. Upon closer inspection, it didn't look like something, but someONE.

"Oh my...!" She said in slight panic before letting out a loud roar, signaling the train to stop. Upon hearing her roar, Mr. Conductor immediately yelled out "Stop the train!" And the train began screeching to a halt.

Once the train had stopped, some of the workers, Laura, and Mr. Conductor, had gotten off the train to see what was on the tracks, and like Laura, they were surprised to see a little troodon boy; probably around the age of 6, passed out on the tracks.

"Well bless my scales and feathers! It's certainly a good thing you noticed him Laura!" He exclaimed before looking back at the workers "Let's get him on the train and make sure he's alright." They nodded before one of them picked the young troodon up and carried him to the train. "Now what was a child of his age doing passed out on the tracks like that...?" Mr. Conductor asked himself. Pondering on the question a little. That's definitely something he would have to ask the little troodon about when he woke up.

Eventually, both him and Laura got back on the train, and it once again started chugging along.
