The sound of water crashing against the supports beneath the pier echoed, the water bouncing from column to column, emerging on either side in a thick froth that rushed along the white sands of Westport's famous beaches. The pier led back to a long boardwalk that hugged the backside of the colorful shops that lined Main Street, but the boardwalk had been such a part of the community for so long that most of the shops had serving windows or access doors on the backsides as well.

The sun was warm and the surfers were out in full force, though most were a bit further south, away from the piers and the bay. It was a beautiful spring day, the siren song of summer was calling, and it was no different even in Westport High School's pool. The bright sun filtered in through the windows on either side, glittering off of the pristine, clean water.

After School practice was underway inside the large enclosed swimming pool. The high school was known state-wide for their talented swim team and state of the art building. Year after year, for the last decade, the Westport High School's swim team had won first place at the state competitions, and the team was certain this year would be no different. The team had started practicing months in advance, training and working out together to be at their peak performance for every qualifying meet.

Over the last couple of months, the team had swept through the district, regional, and area swim meets claiming the first place trophy at each competition. Their victories were well-earned, in part due to the whole team, but most notably thanks to the captain of the swim team. Blake Taggart was the senior varsity captain, an all american athlete that was the pride of the school. The wall showed off trophies and ribbons in his name, and newspaper clippings showed off his appearance.

Blake was five foot eleven with wavy auburn brown hair. His body was strong, an epitome of swimmer's build with well developed shoulders and muscles that peeked out from his shirts even in everyday wear. A small gold earring hung from his left ear any time he wasn't swimming, and he had a blue tattoo of a hieroglyph for water on his bicep. He was a perfect poster boy and had a picture prominently displayed on the athletics section of the yearbook, his smile winning everyone over. Well, almost everyone.

"Dude, why don't you cut your hair? You could really cut down those times by a few more tenths of a second." came the sinewy voice of one of Blake's teammates. Jace Connor was the same height as Blake, but his shoulders weren't nearly so broad. His black hair was shorn short, barely more than stubble and his skin was well tanned, showing faint hints of olive and cinnamon tones.

"Jace, when you're as good as I am, you have to look good both in and out of the water," Blake said confidently. He ran a hand through is wavy locks a few times just to help make his point. "Did you see those pics of me in the yearbook? They wouldn't have been as stunning if my hair was shorter!" He gestured toward Jace, "Though, I think you pull off the shaved head look really well. Somehow you make it work."

Jace didn't say much, looking uncomfortable at first, and then oddly reassured. He had been jealous of Blake's abilities, his looks, but he was such a damn good swim captain that it was hard to hold any ill feelings. His disgruntled face slowly melted into a respectful smile and he nodded.

"You gonna catch any more laps, or are you done for the day?" Jace asked, stretching a bit more.

"I think I might stick around for a few more minutes, make sure everyone's doing alright before practice ends. I gotta keep up my duties as captain!" Blake smiled. "What about you? Are you headed out?"

"I'm here as long as you are, captain." Jace chuckled, stretching a bit more before he moved up to the edge of the pool, brought his hands together and executed a perfect dive. His form disappeared beneath the water, surging and wriggling, propelling himself a good length before surfacing and breaking into normal strokes. The splash carried even more of the smell of fluorine into the air, evoking all of Blake's good memories.

Blake smiled at Jace's eagerness and watched him as he reached the other side of the pool. He looked around at his other teammates in the pool, doing laps and getting better, not only for themselves, but for the sake of the team. A strong sense of pride welled up inside him as he walked along the edge of the pool, knowing he had a responsibility as captain to help each of this teammates be the best swimmer they could be. He also knew that at the end of the school year all of this would be gone, and he'd be graduating, leaving behind the team, hopefully in the good hands of the next captain who took over. Until then, he planned to make the most of his time as captain.

The magic of the west coast... The sun had slowly sunk into the ocean, lingering on the horizon, half obscured by the vast surf. Stars had started to emerge, poking through the veil of violet and salmon the sunset painted. Gentle lights snapped on along the boardwalk in a vast line, and the colorful shops had turned on their colorful lights, only enhancing their aesthetic charm.

The streets had grown quiet as the tourists returned to their cities, vacating the ocean town and leaving it to its residents. It was this time of night that Westport really came alive, living as its true self. There was the smell of cotton candy on the air, the sound of teenagers skating along the boardwalk, and couples standing in the sand with hands embraced. Out on the waters fishing boats bobbed and bounced, turning on heavy flood lights as they worked, looking like stars that had gotten lost in the sea instead of the sky.

Blake stood on the boardwalk, his blue and black letterman jacket fending off the cool night air, giving him a chance to truly appreciate the majesty of his hometown. It was incredibly romantic, though perhaps less so if there was no one to share it with. For as long as he could remember, he'd been drawn to the water, be it the ocean or the school swimming pool.

It had been a lifelong love affair, but something was different about tonight, something on the wind, beneath the crashing of the waves... It was subtle, imperceptible, almost as if it was barely there... but it was like the ocean was calling to him, audibly... or at least part of the ocean was, north of the board walk, off the beaten path.

Blake made his way down the stairs from the boardwalk onto the beach. The waves were lapping gently against the sand as he walked along the shoreline, far away from anyone who was around. He had been to this beach countless times before and knew the area by heart, but for some reason it felt like he was being pulled towards this specific section.

The bay was a small inlet that had become too treacherous for boats over the years and now acted more as a bit of a natural refuge, a little out of the way but still accessible from the hiking trail. The further Blake went, the less people he saw. The colorful shops were behind him and the roar of the highway had faded beneath the ever present call of the ocean... but somewhere, beneath it all was that pervasive draw, that call to the young athlete.

Blake sat down on the sand and started to untie his shoes. He placed his shoes beside him, stuffing his socks into them. He stood up again and gazed out into the dark water, looking at the reflection of the moon in the ocean waves. He loved coming to the beach alone at night. It was peaceful and quiet, and it gave him a chance to mull through the thoughts on his mind, though tonight his thoughts were being drawn more and more to the bay.

Each step only seemed to enhance the feeling that Blake was following something more than just an urge, that he heard something beneath the waves of the ocean, something reaching out from the bay itself. As Blake approached the upper edge of the bay, he could tell something wasn't quite right. There was more light than there should have been on such a dark night, and it wasn't coming from above... It was coming from below. An azure light was gleaming down below, casting shadows upwards off the rock outcroppings, but the source couldn't be seen from so far away.

Blake stepped closer to the rocky edge, craning his head forward to try to see what was shining in the water. The light was unlike anything Blake had ever seen before and was curious about what could be making it. Down below in the gully like opening, something drastic had happened. It looked like the site of a man made disaster. Black goo was dripping down the rocks, a rainbow oily sheen covered the water, and a deep blue phosphorescent glow was coming up through it all, casting light up above. The natural variety of colors on the barnacles and anemones were gone. They were glistening black, leaking goo, looking like nature itself had been devastated in the most surreal and strange way.

Blake leaned forward to get a closer look at the oily water. He wondered if this was some sort of leak from a pipe in the water. He reached a hand forward to touch the black goo to see if he could figure out what exactly it was. The smell was strange, earthy and musky, putrid and sweet, and very potent. It almost made Blake dizzy to smell it, but as he was trying to recover from the fumes, he saw something move beneath the water, sending ripples through the rainbow sheen on the surface.

Blake picked up a small stone next to him and tossed it into the black water, hoping to grab the creature's attention. He knew nothing could survive in the black goo for long and started to think about how he could get whatever was beneath the surface back into the clean ocean. After a few seconds without a response, Blake threw a larger stone into the water and leaned closer to try and catch another glimpse of the creature.

There was more movement, a quick angry swirl before a rock came out of the water and hit the cliff a few feet below Blake's feet before something broke the surface. At first it looked like another swimmer, but the figure was too lithe, almost inhumanly so, and hard to make out against the goo covering the rocks. At first it looked like some sort of head to toe wetsuit, but as Blake's eyes adjusted he realized the swimmer had skin that was perfectly and completely jet black. Purple hair cascaded down the back of the swimmer's shoulders, and a pale glowing blue dot pulsed on his forehead.

Even from a distance, more features were jumping out at Blake, warning his senses that something dangerous was going on. The figure had pointed ears, curved spiky fins on his forearms, and as his lips parted there was a glimpse of dangerous, sharp teeth... But then a rising vibrato filled the bay, a pulsing, a singing, a siren song that wrapped and coiled around Blake like the tentacles of an octopus, holding him in place.

Blake was paralyzed as he stared down at the dark creature below him. Something about the creature's voice kept him staring, almost pulling him forward off the rocky edge. His toes curled around the edge of the cliff, conscious enough to stop himself from falling forward. The creature down below opened his sharp tooth mouth wider, the song growing in intensity, but the pulsing glowing jewel on his forehead grew brighter as well.

The oily sheen on the water started to dance and swirl in rainbow prisms, the phosphorescent glow of the water pulsing in time with Blake's heartbeat. The human could hear whispers in the back of his mind, speaking deep into his soul.

'Come to me... Be with me... Feel the warm water wash around you... ' The whispers echoed between his ears, reverberating around his brain itself.

Blake could only focus on the voice as it swirled around him, the light from the jewel burning into his retinas as he stared directly into it. The creature was calling to him, pleading for him to join it in the water, and Blake could only accept. He dropped the shoes he was carrying on the rocks beside him and quickly shrugged off his letterman jacket, tossing it behind him. He pulled off his shirt and tossed it behind him as he started to unbutton his jeans.

The song changed, becoming more hopeful, more yearning, the light spreading out from the toxic bay. Some of it washed over Blake and a streak of purple started to form in his wavy brown hair, his ears tingling, his forearms tingling. Freckles started to appear across the bridge of his nose and his cheeks. The creature in the bay leaned back against the rocks, revealing a long, undulating merman like tail covered in glistening scales of black and purple.

Blake's eyes widened at the creature beneath him in the water as its purple tail flipped out of the water. However, the sight below was just a quick side thought as the intense singing continued to call him forward. He pushed his jeans down his legs and hopped around a bit as he pulled one leg off at a time, balling them up and discarding them behind him. He was left in nothing but his underwear as he stared down into the water, debating whether or not to jump in.

The rocky cliffs were treacherous, the rock sharp and prone to fragmenting, one of the reasons that the bay no longer welcomed any boats. The creature looked up at the nearly naked human with longing, his lips parting, his sharp teeth glinting in the glow of the water. Blake could feel the heat rising from it, some sort of chemical reaction. It was so wrong and yet so inviting at the same time.

"Come to me... I've been waiting so very long for you... I need you... I want you..." The creature called out to Blake, the song somehow hanging in the air despite the words.

"I'm here. I'm willing." Blake replied, reaching out an arm towards the merman. They had to be with each other, he had to hold the creature in his arms. A lithe, long, midnight black hand with purple webbing emerged from the water, touching Blake's, palm to palm. The creature met eyes with Blake, its orbs nearly solid black. The touch was tender and gentle, but suddenly Blake was pulled in.

The thick, gooey water came up around Blake. It was as warm as bath water, glowing blue, and it slipped over his skin like liquid silk. He felt his underwear get warmer than his skin, warmer still until the fabric started to dissolve into the water, leaving him naked. With the water all around him glowing, it was hard to tell what was down, what was up, and the spell of the song was broken. There was panic, no air, but then Blake felt something strange, a pressure on his lips, the feel... of other lips pressing on his underwater.

Blake looked ahead and saw the dark merman in front of him, staring into the creature's deep blue eyes as it kissed him. He tried to move away, tried to swim to the surface for a breath of air, but his body didn't respond. Instead, he stopped thrashing in the water and floated there with the creature, lips locked in a lingering kiss.

The merman forced Blake's lips open with his tongue, but instead of liquid, air spilled in, filling Blake's lungs. Webbed fingers reached up and started to comb through his hair, feeling it get straighter, smoother, longer, softer. Blake's ears throbbed and ached, but they felt oddly firm, almost like arousal as they stretched into points with tiny ribbed spines along the back edge. Another webbed hand slipped up and down his back, massaging the flesh, pulling him close.

In the warm water Blake felt something start to bump against his manly flesh, something firm and angular, but he felt something else at the base of the shaft, something squishy and soft and warm. The creature pushed more air into the human's lungs before breaking the kiss. A bit of the liquid made it into Blake's mouth, tasting tangy and tingly, but he was able to push it out before choking or gagging, though the pressure was mounting on his lungs, that inescapable feeling of being trapped underwater.

A slick, strong, powerful tail slid along Blake's legs, feeling powerful and thick. The blue light was everywhere, but it grew brighter as the dark merman brought his lanternfish jeweled forehead closer, pressing it to Blake's head, and in an instant they could feel each other's presence. It was a rush of thought, emotion, memory transcending time and the reality around them. The first feeling was a love of water, that it was home, that it was life - that was something that they both shared, but there was more between them.

Flashes of Blake's life, of walking the boardwalk alone, of sitting on the pier alone, of looking at the school pool after his team had gone home... and of floating beneath the pier, of sitting on the rocky shoals outside the building housing the school pool, of drifting in the surf aimlessly alone. That, too, was something they shared. Blake came to realize the dark merman's song was something only he could hear, because he shared the same connections to the sea and the same longing in his heart.

The merman broke their connection long enough to nuzzle his lips. Blake exhaled, bubbles emerging from his lips as his lungs emptied. Once more the creature kissed him, his powerful tongue slipping in, dancing with the human's, filling his lungs back up before pressing their foreheads together again. Blake's shaft grew hard at the connection, realizing that when it broke he had felt so... alone, again, and the connection was the most wonderful, embracing feeling that he'd ever felt in his life.

The flashes continued to mix together, their lives connecting. Blake saw moments of darker impulses that he never acted on, when he appreciated the handsome bodies of his team mates, lusted after students in the halls, considered skipping classes, of being rebellious, of dying his hair, of getting more piercings or tattoos. The thoughts were intoxicating as they took over the thoughts of responsibility and duty he had as captain of the swim team, eroding away as pleasure and rebellion took hold. What would it have been like to barely be on the swim team, beholden to no one, a stand out?

The merman squirmed against him, fidgeting, loving to get to know the human that was so like him. He reached down, wrapping his webbed fingers around Blake's shaft. He gave the meat a few strokes before he brought it up, probing the spongy, squishy flesh around his mer-member and then pushed forward. Blake's hard shaft plunged into the slick slit that housed the merman's cock when not in use, enveloping it in the hot body of the male that had sung to him and drawn him down into the sea.

Blake grunted as his member was pushed into the merman's warm body. He could feel the muscles around his shaft throb and pulse, sending even more thoughts of pleasure and lust into his mind. He grabbed the merman around the waist and thrust forward, burying his shaft further into the slick slit. It felt so animal, so primal.

Slowly the merman started to thrust back and forth, letting their bodies come together, his long, slick shaft pressed along Blake's stomach as they rammed together. Again the merman broke the link to give Blake air, but Blake started to feel as if he'd rather be without air, suffocating, than be without the link. As they came back together, he shuddered, reaching up to grab the merman's head, fingers tangling in his silky hair, holding them tight.

This time Blake learned more about the merman, of his kind... How most merfolk stayed far away from humans, finding shelter in the last bastions of the deep where nature was still robust... But a few had found an ecological niche in the changing ecosystem, thriving in deadly algae blooms and oil spills, of bleached coral reefs and toxic dumps. They were thriving in the world the humans were creating, but it was an isolating existence from both the merfolk and the humans.

Strangely, slowly, Blake could see the beauty in the toxic bay... The colors, the light, the warmth. What harmed others only emboldened them. It was merman taboo, and he was deep in it, bathing in it, saturating in it... and changing in it. He could feel a tingling sensation all across his body as he floated in the polluted water, the black ooze starting to stick to his skin. Blake's shaft was starting to stretch and grow inside of the merman, stretching longer and longer, the mushroom shaped tip tapering to a point as the edges beneath the head sunk down, making one long, slick shaft.

Pleasure radiated from his changing member, causing him to thrust into the merman a few times. His growing shaft filled the merman further, burrowing deeper into the merman's slit. He could feel the muscles inside massage his length as it grew to fill the space.

The change that had started in Blake's ears continued as they grew elfin like, the rubbery spines on the back side growing longer. His neck stung on both sides, the flesh irritated and swelled, turning red and then purple before it split. Tender flesh appeared beneath the cuts, the gills suddenly drawing in water. A rush of oxygen hit his body, but it carried with it a profoundly exhilarating tang of the strange oily film that covered the water. It smelled like sex and rebellion, of fun times without restraint.

Blake was helpless to stop his mind from indulging in those feelings. He wanted to be free, to be rid of school and the swim team and just leave to find his own path. One that was fun and adventurous, and maybe even a bit dangerous. He wanted to really live, letting the ocean waves take him where they wanted him to go. He knew that this was his fate, now, and he accepted it fully.

The fingers gripping the merman's head began to stretch longer, Blake's nails turning black, stretching out into claws. The flesh between the fingers became dewey, sticky, and stiff before the flesh began pushing out, connecting the fingers, forming new webs between them. With each passing moment the connection between them grew stronger and stronger until they could hear each other's thoughts directly and a glow began to emanate from Blake's own forehead, his own jewel firming and taking root.

The formation of the jewel imbued Blake with knowledge and understanding that he had not been privy to before. He could feel the ocean around him, almost as if it were a living entity. He could sense the fish and other aquatic creatures that were swimming nearby. It was like a door in his mind had been unlocked, and he was able to experience the ocean in a brand new way.

The thrashing of the two bodies began to fall more into step, becoming rhythmic and harmonious. Blake's legs began to move together, swishing back and forth until they, too, became sticky and dewey. Bubbles began to form on his flesh, rising off, leaving patterns of blue and purple circles that began to harden and stiffen, forming scales. Soon Blake found it hard not to move his legs together, and he felt a strange warm tingling as the flesh began to fuse. Cells divided and divided again, bathed in the syrupy pollution of the bay.

The meat of his legs thickened, the bones became soft and migrated through his limb. As they pressed together they began to re-harden, segmenting, reforming. His leg had become a trunk, then a tail. The scales swept outward around his ass and his groin, slipping down as his tail grew longer and longer. His feet flattened, becoming pliable, stretching and curving out into spined fins. Suddenly Blake had a far easier time holding his place in the water, finding the mere flick of his fins got him where he wanted to be.

There was a new ease to his movements as he moved his tail in the water. His body began to relax as the powerful muscles in his tail did all the work to keep him in place. He ran his clawed hands down the other merman's shoulders and arms, sliding them over the slick, jet black skin that covered his upper body. This creature had given him a new life, and Blake wanted to favor in any way he could.

The purple streak in Blake's hair remained, but the rest of the brown started to darken to a deep, dark blue color as the hair grew out to his shoulders. His nipples turned from rose to brown to purple, and swirls of color swept up his stomach and back, covering his perfect swimmer's muscles, coating his shoulders and arms. The color looked marbled in shades of midnight blue, purple and black before it darkened completely like an oil stain, turning his skin a dark, pitch black. It swept up across his throat, matching his gills, covering his face and closing around his eyes.

His vision throbbed as his eyes filled with inky blackness, the pupils and irises reshaping, reforming, a film covering them to give him underwater vision. The changes sunk in through every pore, filling his body, changing his physiology. He was part of the sea, he was a dark merman that fed on pollution and toxin, that embraced it... and suddenly felt a firm, hard cock plunge into his own cock slit, filling his body deep, finding his depths as they mated properly. The two males fucked each other, cock by cock, slipping together and hotter.

A sudden hot, silky, milky bloom began to release inside of Blake, filling him with precum as the merman clinging to him shuddered. Even underwater, Blake could hear a thrilling song of pleasure and relief, and as a smile formed on the former human's lips he could feel his teeth stretching, sharpening into fangs ready to tear through any fish that crossed his path.

'You are so fucking handsome, Blake... The most amazing man I've ever seen in my life.' The voice was comforting, sinewy in Blake's mind with the faint traces of an accent. No doubt their mental link was translating for them. The merman pulled back, their jewels no longer touching, but their link did not sever. They could still feel the embrace of each other's minds.

'Thank you for changing me, for making me one of your own.' Blake thought, looking into the merman's deep blue eyes as he grabbed one of his webbed hands. 'I felt your loneliness... the loneliness that we both share. I know how you feel and I want to help.' He moved in closer and kissed the merman, touching both their forehead jewels together.

'You have already helped more than I could ever hope. Only someone who, deep down, shared the feelings of my song could hear it. You heard it, you found me, you came to me and now... we are together. I will spend the rest of my days making you a very happy man.' the dark creature murmured, floating against Blake with love and lust welling up in him.

'And I hope to return the favor for as long as we both shall live.' Blake replied, pushing their bodies together. 'Is there a name I may call you?'

'You may call me... Deo.' The dark merman replied, 'Or whatever you like.' he smiled, baring his fangs.

'I like Deo.' Blake said, baring his own fangs in a toothy grin. He placed a hand on his chest. 'My name is... or was Blake. I don't know if I should change it now. But, you may also call me whatever you like.'

'You do not hate me for snaring you from your old life?' Deo asked, reaching up to caress Blake's spiked ear playfully.

'On the contrary,' Blake started, 'I feel more awake and alive than I ever was before as a human. My old life was boring and plain before I met you. I can't wait to spend my life by your side.'

'Then let's see what fun we can get to.' Deo murmured, giving Blake one quick kiss before he spun around, his long merman tail whipping through the water before he sped off, angling between the rocks and the surf, heading toward the sea. He stopped at the mouth of the inlet and turned, reaching out a webbed hand for his lover.

Blake smiled and kicked his muscular tail, propelling him forward. He did a small flip in the water, which brought a large smile to his face. He caught up to Deo and grabbed his outstretched hand, swimming up next to him.

'I'm ready.' Blake said, 'I want to find out all that the ocean has to offer!' Deo grinned at that and took Blake's hand, the two mermen swimming out to sea together, leaving the toxic bay and all shreds of Blake's humanity behind.
