CHAPTER 3 : THE POWER OF VASH

"Damn... talk about being shocked by lightning," Wolff sat up as he pressed his hands against his head. He felt the soft pads against his temples, dismissing the thought of his still being in wolf form.

"Good morning sleepy head... or should I say good night?" Thrall teased, signs of him just awaken himself apparent in his breath.

"What happened?" asked Wolff looking around while still keeping a paw on his head to soothe the ache.

He noticed the great ball of light illuminating the room, confirming where he was.

'Must've pulled us down here somehow, though I don't want to know how he did that,' he thought.

"You fainted when the gem stuck to you... it must be one hack of a shock!" said Thrall.

"Yea... you felt it too didn't you?" asked Wolff.

He merely smiled. Wolff then noticed a green pole with blades at either end lay at his brother's side. He felt strong winds coming from it.

"What is that?" asked Wolff.

"Oh... this?" he said as he picked it up, showing it to him. "You have one as well... I'm surprised you didn't feel the burn from it," the grey wolf pointed towards the flaming object lying right next to his brother.

He took a look down at his right arm and saw a blazing blade handle under his hand. The blade had a wolf's head at the hilt and the whole blade was like a blazing hot iron. Wolff quickly withdrew and took a look at his palm, expecting a scar. He found no wound, not only that, he did not feel heat on his palm either when he pressed his paw briefly across it. Then he took the hilt into his hands, and just as expected, he felt no pain what so ever.

"Strange... I don't feel a hint of heat in my hand but I'm holding fire!" said Wolff amazed. Swinging the sword around as a trail of fire followed every stroke.

"You have the element of fire in your blood... like with the element of wind in me... so it doesn't hurt you. These are gifts from the Gem of Vash," said Thrall.

"So... these are the weapons the book was talking about??" asked Wolff.

"Yea... and it is the only thing that the Gem can create to destroy the twelve evil gems," replied Thrall as his ears perked.

Just then, the pastor came in with some medicine in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. He gave it to them to calm the storm in their heads.

"That must be some shock huh?" said the pastor, feigning amazement of the brother's survival.

"Yea..." said Wolff as he gulped down the pill and drank the water.

"Anyway..." said Thrall, "I was wondering... if there were three sets of accessories that could destroy the shaman... where is the third?? And why has the Gem stick only to us both and not the third wielder?"

The pastor went dead frozen at that question. He caught his expressions just in the nick of time before he allowed any hint of him keeping a secret from them to show. "Well... the two of you have been long chosen by the Gem...even before you were born," he allowed that bit of detail slip. "The Gem has a mind of its own and it found that both of you will be the ones ever special to hold it... It is your destiny..." said John.

"In that cave... Lysthia said we were chosen by the Gem to hold the Wild Bands, but there were only two sets of it there... where is the third?" asked Wolff.

The pastor dismissed their questions with a short wave of his hands. "These questions are not easy to answer... You'll have to answer them yourself through time," said John.

"That's what Lysthia said," Emuel pointed.

"Who's Lysthia?" asked the pastor, sighing internally as he brilliantly avoided that point.

"She was the one who gave me the powers and created this Gem," said Emuel.

"Right..." said John, putting on a skeptical look and reinforcing his secret.

"Alright John... It's getting late... and we have work tomorrow. We'd better make a move" said Wolff.

They transformed back into their human self and went to the parking lot where their car awaited them to be driven back home.

They arrived at their old apartment in a flash. Emuel parked his car in a spot in the basement. He shuts off the car engine and gave a sigh of relief when he was home. No more fighting, no more late night patrols... just the perfect thing. The night was old, moonlit and comfortable. He turned his head towards the front seat and saw his younger brother sleeping soundly, snoring a little as he smiled.

"Dawn... Wake up... We're home," he said as he shook him gently.

"Hmmm?!" Dawn took a look round and saw that it was his home basement parking lot. He lazily got out of the car and made his way to the elevator. He pressed the up button and the door instantly opened. Going in with Dawn half sleeping, Emuel gladly allowed his younger brother to lean on him. Dawn on the other hand barely knew what was going on... the only thing on his mind was bed, bed and bed. Arriving at the front door, Emuel opened it with his brother supporting on his shoulder. Emuel quickly went into the bed room and flung him on the squeaking mattress and covered him in his quilt. Taking a few more minutes to wash up, he climbed into his bed as he set the alarm for eight o'clock before going to sleep.

************************************************************************

"Your blood and power is mine!!"

_ Emuel saw himself being caught by the chest fur in his wolf form and lifted up. He saw the face of the creature gripping him. It was an anthro tiger with a blade in his free hand getting ready to thrust through his gut. With a growl, the tiger slipped the sharp blade into him, feeling a stabbing pain going through his being as blood spilled to the floor..._

"NOO..." he shouted and jolted up.

He was covered in cold sweat as he shivered at the thought. He buried his head in his hands as he gradually calmed his nerves.

"Emuel? You alright?" Dawn was startled awake by his own dream as his condition now mirrored his brother's; covered in cold sweat and shivering from the dream.

"Yeah... It's okay... It's just a nightmare," said Emuel.

"Are you sure... I had one too," said Dawn.

Emuel looked over to his brother. "What was yours about??"

"I was in some old warehouse and I saw a creature... I think it was a tiger.... gripping you and lifting you up. He had a blade in his hand and he thrusts it into your stomach. I cried to you and wanted to reach you but somehow some force was holding me down and I can't get to you. The tiger then absorbed your powers and drank your blood I can't do anything but call out to you, I felt so petrified," he said, burying his head in his hands.

"I think we were having the same dream... I saw myself in his hands as he gripped me. I tried to pull myself away, but I was too worn out to get loose. That was a terrible nightmare," said Emuel.

"Do you think it will come true??" asked Dawn.

"I don't know," Emuel said yawning. "But I'm sleepy. We'll worry 'bout it if it comes. We have work later, so get some rest," said Emuel, lying back down on his bed.

Despite what he said, Dawn was worried about this dream, but for now, he placed it at the very depth of his mind and slept.

************************************************************************

"RRRIIINNNGGG......." went the alarm.

A hand emerged from the depths of the blanket as Emuel work his sleepy hand to switch the annoying alarm clock off. He slept under the blanket for a while sleepily and then tossed the blanket aside. Getting off the bed, he went to the bed next to him to wake his brother before entering to the bathroom to wash up.

"Hey sleepy head... It's morning... time to work," he said as he shook Dawn up and pulled the comfortable blankets away from his brother. This way he had to get up.

Dawn sat up on the bed side edge to regain his consciousness. Then he too went to the bathroom with his brother to wash up. They dressed up in their jump suits and had a light breakfast of toast and coffee. After that they quickly drove to the workshop where they worked as mechanics. They got this job because they had experience in mechanics and their friend, Dan was in need of decent mechanics for his newly brought up workshop. To top it off, the job pays fairly well.

They got there just in time as they saw their friend slid from below the B.M.W. six series to meet them.

"You're late!!" said Dan, shooting right away towards the two.

The brothers just looked up at the clock hanging on the far wall behind a desk belonging to their friend and boss. Dan too looked at the clock and it read eight sharp.

"Ermm... just kidding??" said Dan as he slapped himself internally.

The brothers just cocked their eye brows at Dan as he chuckled embarrassingly. He stood up again to meet them face to face.

Emuel placed his hands on his shoulder and said "It's alright... Apology accepted."

Dan just smiled and said "alright you two... we have a lot of work today... and I was tied up. This Honda can't start, that Mazda needs to be repainted and that B.M.W needs oil and tire change," Dan said as he pointed to the cars and their problems.

"Alright... we will get started on them," said Emuel.

"I will take that Mazda," said Dawn.

"I'll be working on the B.M." said Dan.

"Oh fine... Give me the hard one!!" Emuel complained as he sulked towards the Honda.

"Only because you are our top mechanic here," said Dan.

"Yeah, yeah..."

Both of them just giggled as Emuel pulled the Honda with a tow car to the specific port to be repaired.

They worked all day till the evening about six sharp. They were worn out as they sat on a dirty couch. "Good work guys, you can leave after we close the shop," said Dan.

"Sure..." the brothers said simultaneously, albeit tiredly. They got up lazily as they helped their friend with one last chore before leaving for home.

On the way, they heard the news on the radio about a break in by monsters in an antique warehouse near their home. Emuel and Dawn smiled at each other as Emuel put the car into gear as they rushed to the warehouse. They parked their car in an unknown area and shifted into their wolf forms.

Running into a dark street and hiding out of sight, they found a few police officers standing by in front of the warehouse, guns at the ready to fire at anything that came out of the place. Having seen enough, Thrall teleported them into the warehouse, concealing themselves behind the many crates scattered around the compound.

They saw very familiar faces... The tigers that attacked them at the church that day were here searching and breaking crates. There was one specific tiger in the middle of all the fuss. He was somehow different from the others... but he looks extremely familiar.

His body wore a furry sleeveless jacket with a thick furry collar. The jacket can't cover his whole muscular body and exposed his muscular chest and stomach. There a Gem stone embedded snugly on his chest and each of his hand paws and leg paws were bound by shackles with chains dangling from it. He wore brown thick jeans for pants and his tail lashed actively behind him. There was a broadsword sheathed in a scabbard hanging on his side as he overlooked the operations going around.

"Move it!! We have to find that artifact or I'll have your heads on a platter!" the tiger growled as his minions picked up the pace in fear.

"I think I know who he is... He is that tiger from our dreams," said Thrall. Wolff stayed silent as he already knew what Thrall was leading to.

"I may Die..." Wolff said grimly as he kept his eyes on the scene before him.

Thrall followed suit, but deep down... he was fearful, because tonight may be the night that he may lose his brother... again. They kept silent, all they can do now was to stop those tigers from getting what they want. Suddenly, the warehouse went silent. They took a look around again and there weren't a soul to be seen, not even a tiger in sight.

They teleported to the middle of the room and took a look around, being weary of every corner for an ambush. Out of nowhere, a red cloud shrouded over them, surrounding them much like how a wolf pack surrounds its prey. From the clouds came many other tigers, much like the ones they fought back at the church advancing towards them and sizing them up. Wolff released an audible growl.

"Is it me or does this look like a trap to you?" asked Thrall.

"Gee... ya think??" replied Wolff.

They summoned their weapons, appearing from burning flames and lashing winds into their hands. Pulling into their stance as wave after wave of the tigers crashed into them.

"At least we get our first chances to use these bad things," said Thrall as he deals with the oncoming enemies swiftly.

"That's looking on the po!! sitive side!" said Wolff as he evaded the enemy's attack and countered back with a splitter as the tiger vanished into a puff of smoke.

Wolff's sword glowed as he charged energy into his sword. Sensing the danger, the tigers tried to slash him with their deadly claws. Luckily the charge was complete in time as he spun and jumped up. Trails of fire lashed out from his slashes, singeing the advancing tigers in flames. They roared in agony and thrashed on the floor before vanishing in a puff of smoke.

The waves were getting heavier and faster as the time bore on. It wasn't long before Thrall met himself with a pack of tigers surrounding him in a circle, ready to pounce. He eyed the tigers as he smirked, jumping up and smashing his weapon down to create a powerful wave of wind, swiping and disintegrating every tiger around him.

Like a river those tigers appeared from the crimson smoke and the more they fought, the more they lost stamina. It wasn't long before they felt strong powerful claws pressing them down to the ground and binding them until they can't even move a single limb.

Sensing the danger fading away, the leader walked out of the red smoke towards them. His ember eyes glaring at them with his arms folded.

"Hello... what do we have here... Saviors of the world?? HAHAHAHAHA... looks like you can't even save yourselves," the leader laughed manically.

"Same to you... little coward... hiding behind your masters powers!! You're nothing but the Shamans chess piece," said Wolff.

"MY NAME IS NOT COWARD!!!! It is Omen... and I am more than a chess piece to him."

"I think he is delusional," said Thrall.

The tiger then threw a punch to Thrall. A hint of a crack rang in Wolff's ears as he noticed a trickle of blood dribble down the side of his muzzle. Thrall groaned in pain before he glared back deathly at their captor.

"Big... chicken..." said Thrall in a whisper that only Wolff can hear.

"What are you here for anyway??" asked Wolff, ignoring Thrall's words.

The huge tiger went to a crate and slashed down his powerful hand into it. He removed an object from the crate after having a good grip on it, pulling it out to reveal a crystal shaped like a human skull with horns on the sides of the skulls head.

"This would release the ancient evil buried in the volcano, the only alternative to releasing him, is this devil's skull," said Omen.

After hearing what he said, Wolff gave one mighty blast and all the tigers fell back. Quickly, he summoned a ball of flames into his hand and shot a ray of fire towards the skull. The skull burnt heavily and Omen immediately dropped it to the floor as he felt hot fire licking his hands. Taking the opportunity, the brown wolf ran to the skull and broke it with a mighty swing of his sword. There was a bright flash, before the skull vanished into thin air like a ghost.

"NO!!!" Omen flung a blast of energy to Wolff's stomach as he fell back down on the floor groaning in pain.

Omen slowly walked towards Wolff and stood before him.

"You have spoiled my plans, for that... you will die today. YOUR BLOOD AND POWER IS MINE!!!!"

Omen lifted Wolff up by pulling his chest fur. He unsheathes his sword and thrusts it into his body. Wolff gritted his teeth as he felt the pain searing into him, blood spewing out of the wound and dripping down on the floor. Omen then bit Wolff's shoulder and drank his blood while his gem absorbs the wolf's powers. Screams and howls of pain can be heard coming out of Wolff as he struggles to endure the agony.

"NO!!! Don't hurt him!!!" shouted Thrall and he saw that the nightmare was coming true. Thrall tried to break free but he was bound down by too many claws holding him in place... just like how the dream was.

"NO!!!!" he shouted out again but the tiger did not stop.

What Thrall was experiencing was so intense that all his muscles in his body tightened up. He exploded from all the tigers' hands and ran towards Omen. He gave one slash on Omen's hand. He missed but it made him let go of Wolff with the sword still stuck in his body.

Thrall broke the blade of the sword behind his back to avoid any more cuts going into his wound while he grabbed the hilt of the sword and pulled making the brown wolf howl out more. Throwing the hilt away, he held his dear brother's head in his hands.

"Looks...... like my time...... is coming," said Wolff forcing a smile as best as he could, masking his pain to ease his brother's feelings... even in death he was worried about him.

"Don't you say that Emuel..... I have lost my younger brother.... I am not ready to lose you yet," said Thrall, his voice quaking in his throat.

"You will... never lose me. I will always be with you.... Right... in here," said Wolff and raised his hand to Thrall's heart.

"Emuel... I will not allow you to die," said Thrall gripping his brother's hand.

"Dawn... listen... If I am fated.... to die, I will let.... fate take it's..... place... and I do not ... want you to... take revenge... I do not want hatred in you... But I do want you to.... Fight... for what is... right...." Wolff's vision blurred as he found the darkness slowly engulfing him into its embrace.

"Emuel! Please... don't.... no.... open your eyes... stay with me," Thrall quivered as tears weaved through his cheeks.

"Don't.... cry.... I will..... always be....by... your..." his words slurred as he slowly drowned into the reaper's hands.

"Emuel... don't.... please... No... Emuel..." Thrall whimpered heavily as he witnessed his brother dying in his hands.

"...side..." with that last word, the brown wolf began his eternal sleep.

"NO!!!!!!!" Thrall howled as he hugged his brother's luke-warm body, tears washing the fur on his chest, not stopping even if much effort was given to try.

"Don't cry..... You will be joining him soon..." the heartless Omen chuckled as he stared into the pile of fur before him, wiping his muzzle with his claws from the blood.

Void of emotions, the winged wolf placed Wolff's body back down on the floor as he gave a deathly stare to Omen.

"That is a good stare... but it is useless if you can't defeat me," said Omen, boasting at his given power.

Turbulences of wind appeared towards Thralls hand as he stood. Then, in a blink of an eye, he disappeared from the tiger's vision.

"You will pay for what you have done to my brother," said Thrall. His voice echoed in the warehouse.

"No use saying that if you can't come... ARGH!!!" grunted Omen as his face was suddenly assaulted by a wind piercing punch from Thrall.

"Not Bad... not bad at all," said Omen wiping the blood off his mouth. "Now... try mine!"

As he said this, his hand formed a flame in a shape of a tiger's head and launched an uppercut towards Thrall, but Thrall countered by back sliding and ducking down before delivering him another punch towards his stomach. The punch was so powerful; it literally squeezed the air out of Omen as he flew across the warehouse, denting the solid walls.

Teleporting again in front of Omen in a flash, he aimed his blade towards his nose.

"Please... don't kill me... I'm sorry... I'll give you anything you want..." said Omen.

"Can you return my brother's soul? Or return him to me? Huh!? Can you?!! I am alone now because of you...." shouted Thrall as tears streamed down his cheeks, the temptation of killing him growing within his heart as his hands trembled, vibrating the sword.

"I'm sorry I killed your brother... I'll do anything!!" said Omen.

"You're lucky Omen... you should thank my brother for sparing your life.... Coward," said Thrall and lowered his blade, the temptation of killing him still coursed through his blood, but the words of his brother conquered the enticement.

He turned his back towards Omen and began walking towards Wolff's cold body.

"No one calls me a coward...." Omen growled and rushed towards Thrall with his blade ready to stab him on the back when the two halves of the Gem of Vash glowed and disconnected from the brothers. It then swirled around the room leaving a trail of light and connected high up in the ceiling. The Gem shot an eye piercing beam towards Omen slowly disintegrating him as his moans of pain echoed through the warehouse. What's left of him was only a pile of dust with the Gem of Lycanthropy on top.

Rays of light spread wider and wider around the Gem, forming the shape of a holy angel. The angel flew down towards Wolff and carried his arms as she flew back to the ceiling. The Angel's wings enveloped Wolff's body as she turned around; the light dissipated into Wolff and closed all his wounds like a zipper. He floated down with his body illuminating brightly as he was gently placed onto the floor. The Gem split and returned to their rightful places on Wolff's belt and Thrall's bracer.

Thrall stood there dumbfounded, looking at his glowing brother but know not what to do. He took cautious steps towards his brother when he saw the light slowly fading away. Thrall carefully lifted the brown wolf's head as he felt his brother's warmth coursing through his palms again.

"Emuel...." He whispered.

Wolff slowly opened his eyes as he saw his crying wolf brother happy to see him alive again. Both of them immediately locked themselves in an embrace.

"It's okay... I'm back now..." said Wolff stroking the grey wolf's back as he sobbed tears of joy into his fur.

"Don't you ever.... Do that again... I'd hate to cry for another week.... for you..." said Thrall, heaving a bit from crying so hard.

"You are awfully emotional... you know that?" said Wolff breaking their embrace as his brother gave him a playful punch, wiping off a tear from him eye.

Wolff got up and walked towards the dust pile that was once Omen and picked up the greenish stone on the pile.

"What did you do when I was temporarily dead?" asked Wolff.

"Hm... lets just say that I almost lost myself. I was too angry with him but in the end... I kept to your word," said Thrall.

"Good for you..." Wolff smirked as he looked at the reflection of himself on the stone. "This thing is too powerful... we need a place to keep it... until we can destroy it," said Wolff.

************************************************************************

"Create a safe for the Gems? You must be kidding me," pastor John exclaimed.

"We're not joking pastor... these are dangerous objects and cannot fall in the wrong hands," said Emuel.

"But..." John said, feigning his reluctance when Dawn cut in.

"Come on pastor.... What can go wrong?? We can place it in your lab... so no one can get to it,"

"Well... for one thing... the safe will not be easy to build.... Secondly... it is nasty down there.... I have not organized it for ages," said John.

"We will take care of your lab pastor... and you will get the safe ready... Deal?" said Emuel.

With a sigh, John gave up, but he was about to do it anyway, so when to do it wasn't really an issue. "Alright, have it your way..." the pastor nodded.

Wolff smiled. "Awesome... we'll help you clean up first thing tomorrow,"
