Trashy Toons

By Feder and Toonvasion

The whole mess had started for Trevor and Annette when they moved into their new house. Annette had always been kind of reserved, but ever since they had moved she was more cold and distant than he had ever remembered. He looked up from his laptop over to her, watching as she idly gazed out the window at the birds in the yard. It was like they weren't even dating, lately Annette's idea of affection was a hug and they didn't really have all that much to talk about barring their jobs and work that needed to be done around the house. She was indeed consistent in reminding him of the boxes left behind in the attic by the previous owner. She glanced over at him, smiling ever so slightly. That was yet another hint, he had said he'd clean it out yesterday but he had put it off, they had just unpacked last week and the idea of moving more boxes full of miscellaneous crap around was not appealing to him.

Trevor checked the digital clock on the wall, if he went up and was quick about it, he'd be done just in time to take her out for lunch. Maybe then, she would warm back up at least for a moment or two. He closed his laptop and set it aside, rising to his feet with a slight yawn as he stretched his arms out. Annette glanced over to him again, and he shuffled in his sock feet out of the den and over to the bottom of the stairwell leading up to the attic

"I'll be clearing the attic out," He said. " Maybe tomorrow we can put your exercise bicycle up there."

"Thanks." Annette said, her voice barely above a murmur. Trevor gripped the handrail of the stairs and climbed up slowly. He had been warned by the realtor beforehand that the stairs creaked, which Trevor suspected he was able to get the house for so cheap, especially on his salary as a programmer.

The attic was a depressing room, large and cluttered with unlabeled cardboard boxes. Trevor flicked the switch and the hanging lightbulb buzzed to life, painting the dusty blue walls in meek yellow light. Trevor had his hands in the pockets of his jeans as he circled around the room, stepping over the massed litter of containers. He then noticed that one box had writing on it, simply the words: 'ANIMATION COLLECTION' in black magic marker.

He fully expected everything to be junk, but this was enough to pique his curiosity. Trevor dug his pocket knife out and carefully sliced through the yellowed packing tape holding the box shut. "Let's see, what are you hiding from me?"Trevor whispered, pulling the top flaps open. At that moment, some part of him fantasized about discovering animation cels from a forgotten film, and the hefty sum they would fetch him on online auctions.

And inside the box was... a bunch of tapes. Old VHS tapes, packed neatly with their labels pointing up for easy recognition. Eve though he knew he wasn't seriously expecting much else, he couldn't help but feel disappointed, the only interesting looking box of the whole bunch and nothing inside but obsolete media.

"Welp, looks like you're going out with the rest of..." Trevor saw something out of the corner of his eye, an old color television set with a built-in VHS player like the one he used to have growing up . "Hang on now..." He said to himself.

He took one of the tapes and walked over to the TV set, making sure it was plugged in before sliding it into the slot. With the familiar whirring of the player turning on, Trevor was overcome with a sense of nostalgia. The video began on a still shot of a long-defunct production company logo, accompanied by roaring 80's synthesizer fanfare. Trevor remembered how such music would never fail to startle him as a kid, the memories bringing a smile to his face.

"Just like old times." He said, leaning forward to wipe a bit of cobweb off the screen with the sleeve of his green jumper. The screen cut to an old fashioned title card with a unfamiliar cartoon rabbit standing off to the side. He was an old rubber hose design: Chubby body with thin limbs and neck, a white face with a toothy grin, long ears with rounded points. He even wore the white gloves, with his only other article of clothing being a gray bow tie. The title card identified him as 'Inky Bunny'.

The cartoon progressed like usual for the period: Minimal dialogue, a loose plot based around Inky acting as a matchmaker for other cartoon animals, lots of subtly subversive physical comedy. The animation quality, however, was far past what he expected. It was fluid, lifelike, imminently believable in every motion and frame. Trevor sat down on the floor, paying full attention to the screen. At that moment, he was sure he really had stumbled upon something worth keeping. He even found himself laughing out loud at the gags.

Eventually, the tape wound to a close and Trevor got up to resume his chores. He had managed to get the first stack of boxes to the door when he heard from behind him a voice, and a familiar one at that.

"Hiya!" The voice said, and Trevor turned to face the interloper. What he saw made him question his sanity. Sitting atop the TV set was a cartoon rabbit. The exact same cartoon rabbit that he had spent the past half-hour watching on-screen. He blinked once, twice... then took a step back, putting a hand to his forehead to make sure he wasn't having a fever dream... or a stroke.

"Who are you... Actually, what are you?!" Trevor said, backing away from the rabbit and towards the door. He didn't know how many drinks he needed to deal with a cartoon rabbit talking to him, but he did know there wasn't enough liquor in the house to reach that point.

"Ya don't recognize me? I'm Inky the Rabbit." The cartoon said, hopping down off the TV. The creature quickly closed the distance between himself and Trevor, his body moving with an odd fluid grace and a rubbery bounciness to each step. He smiled up at Trevor, adjusting his gray bow tie which appeared to just connect directly to the rabbit's body at the neck.

"What do you want?" Trevor said, reaching around beside him to find something that'd make a good bludgeon, just in case.

"I'm a lucky bunny..." the thing calling itself Inky said. He lifted his foot up so the sole was facing Trevor, wiggling his three toes. "You look like you're not quite happy with somethin', maybe I can help."

Trevor hesitated, but felt himself opening his mouth to speak. He was already speaking to a cartoon rabbit so how much crazier could things get?

"It's my girlfriend..." He said with a sigh, clasping his hands in front of him. "She's grown distant, I don't bring it up around her but.."

"Ya want yer dame to stop being cold, eh?" Inky said, his ears perking up. "I can do that."

What Trevor wanted to say was "This is crazy," but what came out of his mouth was "I'd like that." And in that moment, Trevor felt a curious sort of relief, even a flicker of excitement. Inky rolled up the shiny black of his arm like it was a sleeve, then produced a VHS tape from behind him; then he handed the thing to Trevor who took it in shaking hands. The tape bore a white label reading 'For Wifey' in plain black marker, and Trevor could feel something in it, almost a sort of warm energy within its plastic shell.

Trevor looked back up at the rabbit, silently hoping Inky would further elaborate on what the tape was for or what he was supposed to do, if anything. He turned to leave, and his hand was squeezing the doorknob when Inky called after him.

"If you need anything else, I'll be hanging around up here lover boy."

Trevor felt a chill run down his neck. There was something in the rabbit's tone of voice that didn't sit right, it was too playful still. When he descended back into the den, Annette had made herself a tuna sandwich and was eating it in front of the TV. So much for taking her out to lunch, Trevor though. He waited until Annette wasn't looking, then he slipped inside their shared room and left the tape on her desk, it was sneaky but Trevor couldn't help but smile as he left it there with it's 'For Wifey' message plainly visible.Perhaps some of the rabbit's mischievous nature had rubbed off on him, or perhaps it was the promise of a revitalized relationship with Annette. Either way Trevor knew this was the crucial stage, there'd be no going back from this point no matter what the tape did... if it indeed did anything.

Trevor slept on the couch that night, after watching over the old cartoons with Annette and having a few badly-needed moments of shared laughter. Then, Annette went to bed, and before Trevor knew what was going on, he had dozed off. He woke up and looked around the room in confusion, his bleary eyes settling on the BCR displaying the time: 12:45 PM. Trevor sat up and stretched, his back aching from sleeping with his upper body on the arm of the couch, his shaggy black hair an unruly mess. He stood up and brushed his clothes off, then he realized something was off. It was noon, but Annette wasn't up and about like she was. There wasn't even any sign that she'd been up.

"Annette?" Trevor said, shuffling down the hall to their room in his sock feet, "Is something the matter?"

No reply, he called again and received silence once more. Something was wrong, Trevor's heart tensed as he gripped the doorknob. If Annette was in trouble, he'd never forgive himself, it'd be the end of him. He swung the door open, and before he stepped inside he could hear Annette shifting around on her bed... as if she was struggling against something. "Annette!" Trevor cried out as he charged inside, and even his panicked imagination couldn't prepare him for what he saw.

Annette was wriggling around on the bad, tangled up in many-colored tape that seemed to be crawling over her body like a snake, shifting from gray to shiny black to blonde and even fleshtones. The tape was pulling itself tighter around her body, and beside her was the source. The tape the rabbit gave Trevor, the tape Trevor left for Annette, was lying beside her, with more and more of the strange color-shifting tape emerging from it as the tape unspooled itself. And what Trevor found most baffling, Annette wasn't screaming, nor did she even look terribly uncomfortable, even as Trevor could see her body's proportions shifting beneath the tape.

Her body thickened at the hips, putting on exaggerated curves as a large rat-like tail pulled itself out from the mass of magnetic tape. Her face stretched out, making a sound uncomfortably like rubber being stretched as it pulled into a muzzle resembling an opossum's. As more and more of her body changed, the tighter and thinner the tape got, the shape beneath it becoming more visible as the rubbery tape grew more transparent.

He could make out a pair of big, round ears, Annette's mouth opening and showing off a mouthful of sharp, bright white teeth, and shiny gray and white 'fur' that looked just as painted on and untextured as Inky's black body. Trevor took a slow step forward, reaching out to the writhing cocoon of VHS tape. He could barely react when the cocoon popped, bursting apart in a confetti-like shower of tape fragments. Trevor clinched his eyes shut and held his arms up to shield himself, then slowly lowered his arms, opening his eyes again to take stock of what had happened.

Laying before him on the bed was a toony opossum girl, still with Annette's blond hair though it had reformed itself into messy, slept-in curls. Her body was an exaggerated pear shape, with her massive new hips accentuated by a pair of jean shorts with frilly pink panties peeking naughtily out the top. The opossum girl's chest was covered, very slightly, by a red flannel shirt with rolled up sleeves and tied off just beneath her chest.

The thing smiled and hopped up off the bed, coiling her tail around Trevor's waist affectionately. She put her four-fingered hands on his shoulders and pulled him into a tight hug.At first shocked beyond reasoned thought, Trevor then put his arms around her, basking in the warmth of her changed body. It hadn't happened the way he hoped, but Annette was showing affection. At least he was pretty sure it was still her, as insane as the circumstances were, Trevor was perfectly willing to go along with it; what choice did he have now, after what had happened?

The opossum girl planted a wet kiss on Trevor's cheek, her toony lips lingering on his cheek for just an instant longer than necessary.

"Annete?! Is that you?!" Trevor said, embracing her in return, his hands running down her thick hips, prompting a shrill squeeeaaaak from whatever she was made of. "What happened to you?!"

The opossum girl giggled, in what Trevor knew for certain was Annette's voice, " 'Course ah am, sugah," she said in her new southern accent "Don't tell me yah didn't know it was me."

"Oh... I didn't... I mean... I'm so happy to see you," Trevor stammered, his face was lit up with blush. "Are you okay? I mean, like that..."

She chuckled. "Oh I feel great~! And please, call me Annie."Her flexible tail coiled around one of his legs as she ran her four frisky fingers up and down his arms, Trevor could smell the funk of ink and rubber and alcohol on her.

"I'm so glad to have you," Trevor said, letting Annie rub herself over him, after all he got his wish, even if it came with extras.

"Yer so sweet," she cooed. "I feel like a new girl, how 'bout we just spend the day in bed?" Her voice carried with it a lewd aggressiveness to it, and the opossum thrusted her hips forward to further make her intentions clear, and Trevor wondered if such an act was even legal in this state.

"Okay, we can cuddle..." Trevor said, feeling the uneasy thrill of being the one having to walk back his lover's advances. And honestly, cuddling was all he really wanted right now. "... How about I get us something to drink?"

Trevor made a step in the direction of the door, only to be nearly tripped by Annie's tail hooking itself around his ankle. Annie gazed into his eyes with a sort of 'sad puppy' look about her. He eased her hands off of his arms, only for her to take his hands in her own, tightening her grip.

"What's wrong?" Trevor said, trying once more to put distance between her and him.

She gave him a teasing little pout. "Won'tcha take me with you? I sure did miss us bein' together... close-like."

"Okay..." He said, breathing a resigned sigh, "We can do it together, if you want."

And upon hearing this, the opossum girl giggled and planted another very enthusiastic kiss on Trevor's cheek. "Yer such a darlin', thanks."

Then, Trevor was allowed to lead his formerly-frigid girlfriend out into the kitchen by the hand. It was a slow walk, considering that Annie was constantly nuzzling and getting touchy with him. He swung the door open and grabbed a couple beers, handing one over to the opossum who thanked him with another kiss, this one on the neck.

"You're so sweet, thanks~" Annie said, popping the can's tab with one of her painted claws.

"Yeah..." Trevor said, watching as she guzzled half of her beer already, her throat bulging cartoonishly with every swallow. Trevor didn't exactly know what he picture himself and Annette doing a week ago, but it wasn't this. The whole affair was surreal, not unpleasant but he did catch himself wondering idly when he was going to wake up.

"Trev, honey..." Annie said, her beer-scented voice taking on a needy tone, "Let's go back to your room, been a while since we slept togetha'."

"Yeah..." Trevor said, forcing himself to sound more enthusiastic than he was. Then, she took off towards the bedroom suddenly, almost pulling his arm off with how strong her grip was and how quickly she moved. Stumbling on the first attempt to keep up with her,Trevor realized that he should have noticed something had gone seriously wrong a long, long time ago. When they reached the room, Annie let go and quite literally jumped onto the bed landing in what her changed backwoods mind thought was a seductive pose. One hand on her hips, the other supporting her head as she looked up at him, her mouth open in a toothy grin that expressed a mixture of predatory hunger and lust. Trevor stood there gazing dumbly at her, which prompted the opossum to reach over to him, her arm stretching out at blinding speed, and yanking him onto the bed with the force of a giant rubber band snapping back into shape.

Annie rolled over, positioning herself on top of him, her paw-like hands feeling up and down Trevor's body as she stripped his pyjamas off. The outfit was a stretched, tattered mess by the times she stripped him down to his boxers. The opossum pressed her muzzle against his neck, licking and nibbling at his soft skin. She giggled in that bubbly ditz way, then pushed forward into a wet kiss, her lips pressing almost painfully tight against Trevor's.

The kiss went on until Trevor was almost suffocated; finally ending when Annie pulled back, breaking the kiss with a sound like a cork popping out of a bottle. Trevor arched his back, taking deep, panicked breaths. The opossum cooed nonsensical pet names into his ear as she wrapped her tail around his legs, with her hands stroking and caressing his bare chest. She grinded her crotch against his, and Trevor was more than a little alarmed that he was getting hard.

"You... I think we're going a little too fast" Trevor whined, leaning back into the mattress to put as much distance from her as possible from his position beneath her.

Annie just laughed. "Naw we ain't. You wished, remember?"

He squirmed beneath her, eyes widening as what she said dawned on him.

"How did you..."

Annie sat up, teasingly undoing her top and throwing it aside as she swayed her hips in some kind of attempt at seductive dance. "Just figured it out, honey pie?" Trevor then recognized the flowy, amorphous grace in which her body moved. It was exactly the same as the rabbit in the attic, like a living cartoon. He noticed it before but now... now the connection was impossible to not see.

"What's wrong?" The opossum said, putting on that mock pout again. "If you have trouble gettin' it up, I got somthin' for that."

Trevor was still, feeling like he was in the beginning moments of a migraine. This was his fault;one moment of selfishness and his life had become a Roger Rabbit fever dream. He thrashed around beneath Annie, trying desperately to get out from under her to no avail. She was too strong, too flexible for him to do anything but wriggle around in bed like a worm speared on the end of a fishing hook.

"Annie...I'm sorry for what I did to you." Trevor said, his voice quivering. "I shouldn't have taken that tape, I shouldn't have..." Annie the opossum just laughed, mockingly but Trevor could also sense some pity in there. "Aw, yer just nervous 'cus it's yer first time! " She said, reaching into the pocket of her denim shorts. His eyes widened when he saw a black VHS tape in her hand, bearing only a white label with "For hubbie" written in half-literate scrawl.

"I got just the thing for this," the opossum's smile was like that of a shark about to feed, "Yer gonna love this, hun." And as she spoke, Trevor could see the tape snaking its way out of the cassette casing.
