CHAPTER 2 : CATS AND WOLVES DON'T MIX

Emuel yawned out loud. His eyes half open as he glanced at the clock. It was half past eight.

Looking at the ticking hands, Emuel's eyes opened wide, dropping on the floor as he panicked to get up... he was late for work. He quickly shook Dawn awake, unaware of the form his body took. He was in his wolf form as he dreamt of himself running through the woods with the wind weaving across his fur. Dawn and Emuel worked in the same car mechanics company and their work time was eight sharp.

"Dawn!!!! Wake up!!! We're late!!!" He shouted.

Dawn sat on his bed; hair messy, droopy eyes and not a worry in mind as he looked at his brother busy dashing around the room to get his clothes as if the world was about to end.

"Emuel.... look at the clock..." he said sleepily as he wrapped his whole body in his quilt.

"Why are you still in bed? Hurry up and get ready!" Emuel sounded, still busy dressing up and taking no notice what so ever to his being still in wolf form.

"Would you just look??"

"Would you just get up?" replied Emuel.

Dawn gave a sigh and took Emuel by the head and turned him directly towards the clock.

"It's eight forty five! Got to hurry or he will cut our salary again!" said Emuel.

"The day man!! Look at the day!!" shouted Dawn.

The clock wrote Sunday which was their off day of the week.

"...And another thing... you're furry!" chuckled Dawn as he threw a pillow at him.

Dawn stood there looking and laughing at his silly brother while Emuel, after having caught the pillow, took a look at his hands and just noticed that they were wolf paws. Emuel then started laughing himself.

"I'm going back to sleep... I worked all night and I want to have my energy back for church later. Don't wake me up unless you have something important and not panicking over nothing!!" said Dawn chuckling.

"Alright... well... I can't sleep anymore... so I guess I'll make breakfast," said Emuel.

"Alright, wake... me after you made them. Make sure you don't make a mess of things... and we do know... what happens when... you go into the kitchen," said Dawn yawning in between words as he slept back down on the bed. He raised his hands and shooed him away.

"Yeah, yeah..." said Emuel.

Emuel washed himself up and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He wasn't a very good cook. Every time he goes into the kitchen, it would be like hell's been using it as a portal to come to earth. But this time, it was rather different.

He went to the refrigerator and took out some eggs and some bacon. After that, he took some slices of bread to toast and made some coffee on the espresso machine. He cracked the eggs onto the pan when he noticed that there was no gas.

"Oh no... Out of gas... what to do... what to do..." he said, tapping his head. Ah... got an idea," he suddenly snapped.

He shifted into his werewolf form and fired up his left claw. He placed the pan on his fiery claws and cooked the eggs while using his free one to place in the bacon. After a few minutes, it was all done. He placed the steaming food for a fair share on two plates and went to fetch the toast and the coffee and placed all on the dining table. He took a whiff of the amazing job he had done as he smiled at himself, pleased of a job well done. He went into the kitchen again to wash all the used utensils before going to wake Dawn up.

He shifted back to human and went into the room where his brother lies sound asleep. He started out gently.

"Dawn... wake up... Breakfast is ready," No answer... but Emuel heard a snore.

The long haired teen tried again with a little more force, but he was awarded with the same results.

Emuel went a little rougher:

"Dawn!!! If you don't wake up this instant... I will use drastic measures," a small hint of a growl escaped him.

"Leave me alone!!!" shouted Dawn as he threw a pillow at him which he caught effortlessly.

"Alright... you asked for it," said Emuel.

He went to his computer connected to his Hi-fi set and turned on a very distorting music on the MP3 player. The song started out very gentle but soon it turned wild. This apparently drove Dawn out of the blanket eyes wide open and holding his ears tight.

"OKAY!! OKAY!!! I'M AWAKE!!! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!!" shouted Dawn despairingly.

Emuel snickered as he turned off the song, grinning triumphantly at Dawn.

"Hehe... always works," he said.

"Hardy Har Har..." said Dawn as his eyes drooped and opened like blinds on a window.

He sat upright on the bed and scratched his head as he fought to keep his eyes open, but it seems he was losing the fight as he eventually drifted off to sleep again.

"Aw... man... DAWN!!! WAKE UP!!!" Emuel chuckled a little from his comical brother.

"Hmmm??? What?? Oh okay...." he said sleepily and finally got out of his comfortable bed, and went to wash himself up.

"Man he really can sleep," said Emuel sitting down on the bed himself and rubbing the back of his neck.

He stood up again. "Dawn... better be fast... breakfast is getting cold and don't blame me if it ruins the taste," said Emuel as he journeyed to the dining hall.

The younger brother came out still a little sleepy but after getting a whiff of the sweet smelling aroma of the Belgium coffee, he gradually woke up.

"So... does it tastes good??" asked Emuel.

"Not bad... how did you know how to cook like that?" asked Dawn.

"Well... it is quite easy after you see a pro cook on television," said Emuel boasting out loud and placing a chunk of meat in his mouth.

Dawn just grinned and continued with his brother's delicious food, murring at how well tastes. It was as if the food was dancing with his tongue. It was so good in fact, it was the best cooking he ever tasted. Although not as good as his own cooking, but it was a start.

"Eat up quick. It's time to go to church. I will drive us there," said Emuel.

"Alright. It's been a long time since I've been there. Because of our work and our well you know... late night patrols, we hardly ever get out to the church last month," said Dawn.

"True... Erm... Are you done?" asked Emuel.

Dawn just nodded as he finished his last peace of bacon.

"Good. Lets clean this up and we can go," said Emuel.

They took the dirty dishes in to the kitchen sink and washed them. While they washed, Emuel started to talk about their powers. They found that their senses were much sharper and their strength and agility have increased ten folds. They finally stopped their discussion when they finished their cleaning up and went to their car in the apartment parking lot and drove off to the church.

Arriving the compound, Emuel parked his car in a parking space as the two left their car. They found themselves alone as the parking lots were empty. They stood outside for a while admiring the beauty of the structure as the sun beamed on it. It was an old building as it had been built ever since they were born, in fact, it was earlier still. It was covered in old paint and there were even some patches of white on the walls where the molds took their shelter in. The windows were dusty and when you look at it you would think it was abandoned a long time ago. Though little do they know that the church was low on funds and the brothers were one of the few people that helped it. The furniture inside were old and some looked as if it was broken and was mended back again where the cracks and scratches can never be done away.

The brothers went to the front door and were unexpectedly opened by a personfrom the inside. It was Pastor John.

"Welcome my brothers," said the pastor.

"Hello John," greeted Emuel.

"Hey John..." followed Dawn.

Pastor John is a long term worker in the old church, well, he was the one who opened it about two years before Emuel and Dawn came into the world. He was about six foot one and about age forty plus but he doesn't look his age at all. He was still young looking and was reasonably fit. He had a broad face and black hair mixed with a few whites at the sides. He has no beard or mustache though you might find someone having them at their age. Pastor John had been like a god father to them when their parents died and helped them in times of need.

"Please come in. Though it is Sunday, I have no one to preach to," said John and pointed at the empty church benches.

"I'm sorry John, is there anything we might do to bring someone here?" asked Dawn.

"Naa... don't bother... I have no mood to preach anyway, besides, I have something to show both of you," said John and walked up to the stage.

The brothers looked at each other puzzled as to what their dear old friend wanted to show them. They followed the pastor up the stage where they can see the statue of Jesus hanging on the cross and on top of the statue there was a yellow gemstone shining in all its glory when the sunlight hit it and reflected a yellow beam on one particular church bench which the brothers knew at once that it was their favorite seat during bible studies.

The pastor went on to a candle stand that looked like a trident with candles on every point. He took the middle point and bent it down, and at once the ground in which they stood shook as if an earthquake had struck it and a doorway opened with staircases leading down to a special white light that looked like a star shining in the bitter sky and revealing every corner of the room inside. They went down to the room and saw that the source of the light was coming from a ball of energy that stood floating on an altar and the room was really vast and gigantic with space filled with messy bits and pieces of scrap metal as if the pastor was working on a project.

The ball of light was really something not known or yet saw in their lives. They stood there bewildered at that great ball of energy until their legs grow tired. They sat down, and even then were still focused on it.

"It's great huh?" exclaimed John.

"You did all this?" asked Dawn, astonished with what the pastor had achieved.

"Yup... and it took almost all my life to build this place..." said John

"You did this all by yourself? No one helped?" asked Emuel even more surprised at how he achieved this feat.

"No one helped... I wanted to call you guys but it seems that you were too busy to come help me with all the work in your hands daily," said John

"We're so sorry, but still this is incredible and how did you make this light?" asked Emuel.

"Oh... that is a chemical reaction and a little mystic material that I found... don't tell anyone about this or the science community will come chasing after me and ask questions," said John in a whispering kind of way.

"You are a chemist??" asked Dawn.

"...And a computer expert too," replied John proudly.

"You?? A computer expert? Since when??" Dawn chuckled disbelievingly.

"Since the day you were born," said John.

"Why is it that I did not hear about this the dozens of times we were with you,"

"I have kept this a secret for a long time and I am sorry I did not tell you," John apologized

"But you lived in the church almost your whole life... how in gods name did you become a computer expert?" asked Dawn still not satisfied.

"I go out too you know. I don't always stay in the church," exclaimed John.

Finally satisfied, they kept silent and enjoyed the white holly rays as if from god itself which were so peaceful and so pleasurable that it made all three of them drift off to sleep as if they have seen a lullaby instead of hearing it.

They slept for a while until they woke up in the middle of the night. It was eight o'clock and the moon was shining brightly above the church with stars accompanying it. They told the pastor that they would like to make a move home. The pastor agreed and led them to the entrance of the room.

When he came out, to his surprise, he saw five anthropomorphic tigers searching around the room. The stripped cats were big and muscular. They have long tails and sharp teeth and fangs that glistened in the light. Their eyes are turquoise blue and the look in them would kill even by its stare. They were wearing nothing but briefs and some hunter's accessories that bound about them at their claws and paws. They were standing on two feet that look more like a tiger's than a man's.

They growled at the pastor wanting to attack. Just as they wanted to pounce on him, a brown furry figure dashed and grabbed the tiger's body in mid air and flung it to a wooden bench, breaking it in the process.

The pastor did not believe his eyes on what he was watching. Then, the brown furry figure in the process of wrestling the on-hand tiger shouted in his gruff voice to the pastor.

"Get out of the way! Down into the room before you get hurt," shouted the furry figure which was now clearly be seen as a werewolf - Wolff.

The pastor did not bother his commands because he was too petrified to move. Then another furry grey figure with wings appeared in front of him and pushed him in to the room and closed it behind him. Turning back to the cats, he teleported behind the remaining tigers and tapped one of their shoulders.

"It is not nice to break in to a church," said the grey figure - he is Thrall.

He lifted his fist and wounded it up to the maximum and gave the tiger a painful punch in the nose which made him fly across the church on the mat in the middle that separates the benches into two. The other three just growled as they started swinging their claws at the wolf.

Wolff on the other hand was having a Judo competition with the tiger-in-hand. They kept spinning on the ground trying to pin one another down. Wolff succeeded in the end as he then grabbed a candle stand nearby and bent it around the tiger as if it was rope.

"Don't move!" said Wolff while the tiger kept struggling to free his bonds.

Wolff then rushed over to help his brother when a body of one of the tigers came flying with his back facing him. He took the tiger in a neck hold as it struggled to get free.

"Why did give this to me? I don't want it," said Wolff playfully as he threw it back to Thrall.

He grabbed it again by it's neck. "Awww... that's mean, and I have placed in much thought too! Please take it back," said Thrall and thrown the tiger back at Wolff.

"Now you know I can't accept a gift this big and I think our house is too small to rear a tiger as big as him, now take it back," said Wolff and throw it back to Thrall again.

"Since you don't want it, and I don't want it... We'll let god decide who will take it," said Thrall and throw the tiger high up in the air as if it was a toy then with a thud it dropped back down and blacked out.

The brothers then gave a high five to their work and went down to find the pastor as the tigers on the floor turned into smoke and vanished into thin air. They got down to the dark room again and tried to find the pastor but he was nowhere to be found. Then suddenly there was a hard whack on Thrall's head and the wound began to bleed. Thrall holds the wound tightly and turned around to see who was the attacker and found the trembling pastor holding a long piece of metal in his hand. He attempted a second hit but this time Thrall caught hold of it and broke it into two before he collapsed on the floor.

When he awakened, he saw two faces. One was his wolf brother and the other was John.

"Sorry, for hitting you so hard on the head after you saved me from those tigers," said John.

"Don't mention it..." said Thrall sitting up and remembered that he is still in his wolf form and said

"I mean er... GRRRR!! I'M A BIG SCARRY WEREWOLF!! RUN!!" said Thrall when he saw his brother chuckling.

"He knows already doesn't he?" asked Thrall with his face reddening.

"Don't worry... your secret's safe with me," said Wolff.

Then they returned into their human forms by force as the necklaces glowed and turned them back.

"Pastor... you can't tell anyone of this secret... or we will be in big trouble," said Dawn.

"Hey... don't you trust your old pastor?? My mouth is zipped!" said John.

"Now the only matter is what those creatures were searching for," asked Dawn.

"I think I know," the pastor answered with a sigh as he went to a shelf to take a book. The pastor started climbing the stairs, flagging the two to follow him as they made their way up to the surface again.

They reached it and the pastor took a look on top of the statue of Jesus where the bright yellow gem shone in its glory.

"They want that??" asked Dawn teasingly

"Hey... it does more than shine okay!! Look, this is what they were after," he said and opened the book to a start of the chapter.

There is a picture of the gem stone in a bonfire and beside the fire there lay a group of people kneeling down and worshiping the stone and below the picture there were several descriptions that talk of a story. It wrote:

"Billions of years ago, when the first of humans ever to walk this earth roamed over the lands, there was a great stone that have said to their ancestral belief that it came from the gods. It came one day out of no where into the shaman of this only community. The shaman used the stone to exorcise magic and sorcery to change and manipulate the elements of the earth. She was a great healer but life can go only so long until she died. Then the Gem was past down to his son who then became the shaman of the community, but he used the Gem for his evil deeds to control all of his people. Soon, there was a rebel towards the evil shaman and they snatched the Gem away from him and used it against him, sealing him in a Gem stone. The villagers then carried the gemstone with the shaman in it and flung him down a volcano. Once the he was in, the volcano erupted and the shaman sunk in deep and it has never erupted since but the shaman too made gems of his own before he died and gave it to his most loyal subjects. The next holder of the Gem used it wisely and known that the shaman cannot be dead so easily. So he used the Gem to create four sets of accessories for the purest of hearts to wield it so that the world would be ever safe from him. He named them after nature itself, he named them Wild Bands. The Wild Bands would grant the bearer the power to manipulate himself into a powerful creature that would cure the world off evil. He gave it to his own three sons and a loyal friend. They used it to help people in danger. Several years later, the Gem mysteriously vanished along with all the other mystic gems. Until today, the Wild Bands and its position was never known again. Some say it will appear again when it is needed and find the four chosen ones to once again free this earth off the evil deeds of the shaman"

Then there was another paragraph. It wrote:

"The Gem of Vash was a very powerful stone. It can create and destroy everything it has created if it chooses to. There are twelve evil Gems and only three Gem powers had been able to be identified. One was the power of lycanthropy, another, the power to manipulate force and another the power to dispel magic. It was said that if there was ever a time these gems would be collected and used, it will bring the evil shaman back to the earth and rule it once again. Though alone, it cannot be destroyed but when more and more of them are gathered, until all twelve is collected, it will be easily shattered and the key to unlocking the shaman will be gone for ever. The Gem of Vash is the only thing that can destroy the Gems and with its power, it will grant the bearer a weapon to destroy the Gems"

"Guess you're right, but who wants it so badly?" asked Dawn

"I don't know, but I have a feeling that he works for the dark side, the side to free the evil shaman... oh this is another one of the world domination schemes of another sick evil maniac!" said the pastor.

The brothers just looked at him in a very surprised face. The pastor took notice of this and quickly covered the things he said.

"You have been watching too many Star Wars and James Bond movies haven't you?" teased Emuel.

"Hey... it's a hobby. Anyway, why don't one of you get the Gem down, and we will examine it," the pastor said as he closed the book.

"Alright," said Dawn.

He transformed into his were form and flew up to the statue where the bright yellow Gem lay. Just as he wanted to take it, the Gem shot out a burst of light and splits into two, both half identical to each other as one half stuck itself to Thrall's right wristband and the other stuck itself to Emuel's belt. It left a huge shock in their bodies as they roared in pain. The shock transformed Emuel into his were form as he collapsed to the ground on all fours. He tried to keep himself awake, but his eyes blurred heavily in front of him as he blacked out with a groan. Thrall was well out before this and dropped from the ground with a loud thud.

"It seems half my duty had been achieved Lysthia, they were indeed the bearers..." he said as he looked down at the knocked out brothers. The pastor then held the book and looked at the cover, below the title, the author of the book read J.L. John.

He smiled as he placed the book down on one of the benches and continued the grueling task of hiding the brothers in his lab.
