A Light Bringer Surrounded by Darkness

Lily-Chan had little memory of her parents, being only three when she last heard there words. She was too young to understand the danger they were in, too young to realize what her parents transformation from bringers of light, to wielders of darkness meant for the Draenei. Her last, and few memories of them was words of her mother, ''We will always love you, one day we will meet again, our darling''. They left her there, feeling the city of Stormwind would be the safest place for there precious child, hearts heavy as they heard the poor child sobbing. Being death knights, they couldn't stay in the city long. The Young Draenei felt so alone, and confused, among these strange pink skinned humans, many of them young like her, most who parents were killed in the wars. All she knew was evil forces had done this to her and her family, she learned to fear evil. The orphanage was ran by an old couple, who were nice enough. They struggled at first with the young Lily, trying to get her accustomed to human food, customs, and finding ways of covering her hooves as they marked up the wood floors. Poor Lily could never seem to fit in, and as she got older, she began to despise the human boys, and became apt at spotting the seeds of evil in some of them. They were cruel to her, calling her names, making fun of her horns, hooves, blue skin, and bright eyes. She began to separate herself best she could from the rest, but it was hard, with no were to really go. Especially after the old lady lost her husband, and was left to run the orphanage alone. The days went by, the next just like the last. She became more accustomed to human food, taking no notice that the diet and lack of sunlight was slowly lightening her once deep blue skin. She was quiet, it was easy the way, to avoid the boys that found pleasure in her torment. Every day, a little more complacent, a little more numb. A sad sight, hoofs covered, horns rapped, and hair knotted. Haunted by dreams of evil forces taking her parents, and coming after her. Always passed by any prospective parents, and on the verge of lost hope. This continued for almost 2 long years. One mourning, the children were called down to greet a new arrival. For Lily, this was no new event. She stayed as far in the back of the front lobby as she could, paying little attention to any of it. The old lady greeted the 2 soldiers and a young girl, about lily's age. The new arrival was a tier 3 orphan, which meant no family at all to claim her. This had been common for the last couple days as an alliance settlement had just been sacked and burned. A few orphans had arrived, there whole family's killed by the horde. Lily cringed at the thought of not only why these children were arriving, but also on how there hurt usually needed an outlet. She tended to be that easy outlet for these hurt and traumatized children. She would do her best not to make eye contact, but this new arrival, she could feel her staring at her. Lily felt panic build within her soul, and cursed to herself "this one is already fixated on me". For the remainder of that day, every were she went everything she did, she could feel this one's eyes on her. She couldn't seem to shake this little girls gaze. She longed just to find a place to hide, to avoid what ever verbal or physical harm this new human child had in store for her. Evening came, and as the children climbed into there bunks Lily could hear sobbing in the bunk next to hers. To her horror, she realized the new child was in the bunk next to hers. She laid there, silent, for at-least an hour, expecting the worst, but just sobbing, and sniffling. Against her better judgment, Lily felt an impulse, and slowly slipped out of her bunk. Kneeling down at the side of the girls bed she slowly placed her hand on the balled up, quivering human. The girl startled a bit, then rolled over and sat up, rubbing her arm across her running nose. Lily took her hand back, not knowing what to do now. The girl sitting there, eyes red from crying, still sniffling a bit. "What now" Lily thought, is she gonna lash out at me? Or are we gonna just sit here staring at each-other? The two did sit there for a bit, then the girl did the unexpected, her hands went up, and Lily instinctively cowered, clasping her eyes shut, expecting the worse. Nothing happened, she slowly opened one eye, and there sat the girl, arms up, beckoning the little Draenei to come to her. Slowly Lily picked herself up and climbed onto the girls bunk. Eagerly the girl hugged her, and cuddled up next to her, finally drifting off to sleep. Lily stayed there, not wanting to wake the poor child, until she herself fell asleep. Lily and her human friend quickly became inseparable. The human girl ,Macie, opened up, unaffected by the Draenei's odd appearance. Lily was amazed at how this human treated her as an equal, not as an animal like many others did. They were a lot alike, and became a bit of a light in there dark world. Macie Defended Lily from the boys, and Lily comforted and calmed Macie who continually struggled with memories. Lily was resilient to talk about her parents as death nights were strongly hated by the humans, but Macie often recalled memories of her parents. Macie's Parents were paladins, and Macie had some memories of them moving a lot. She was too young to really understand why, but she new it had something to do with the alliance. Her parents had hid her under some floorboards the day the horde had invaded there small community. She spent a couple days huddled there forces from the alliance arrived, what she saw haunted her for the rest of her days. A couple years past, and the 2 young girls grew, discovering there strengths, and learning from each other. Lily still struggled with her fear of evil, always trying to calm a turmoil that resided in her. She wondered if she would ever feel safe, or if the dark forces that had so effected her parents would one day come to get her. Her friend seemed to heal a little quicker, she redirected her fears to a desire to want to overpower evil, and often expressed her desire to be a paladin like her parents were. Lily couldn't so easily envision a future for herself. She still felt out of place in this human world, and felt she would never really fit in. Little did she know that there was someone passing through the city who could sense a soul in turmoil, but with unique potential. Lily was 7 when a community of Pandarens began to arrive to the city. The children of the orphanage took little notice as the facility was not on the main route to the palace. Today seemed no different then the rest, Lily and Macie sat in a corner of the loby, Macie talking of wanting to learn how to ride horses, dragons and such, while Lily half listened, while keeping an eye on a group of boys who never seemed to be up to any good. She could feel the evil of there ring leader. She feared that evil, and always kept her distance, while keeping a cautious eye on him. Macie was in mid sentence, still talking of learning to ride when the front lobby door bell jingled. As usual, the whole room paused as the old lady got up to great whoever stood on the other side of that door. "wonder if one of us is going to be taken" Macie whispered. No word of horde activity had been spoken in a while, so things had been quite at the orphanage. At times like this, it was common to see children leave to there new familys. The old lady opened the door, many of the children eagerly waiting to see who was on the other side. No one seemed ready for what they would see. There stood a Pandaren, a creature many of them had never seen. The reactions were scattered, some seemed scared, others began to laugh, or grin. A few such as Lily and her friend just sat there a bit dumbfounded. Lily looked over at Macie, "what is it" Macie shrugged, "I heard others talk of some sort of bear like people, it must be one of them". All eyes were locked on the panda as it talked with the old lady. As the two spoke the panda began to slowly walk towards Lily and her friend occasionally glancing over to them. Lily and Macie didn't move, eyes transfixed on the odd looking creature. As the panda and old lady got closer, Lily and her friend could begin to here what they were saying. The panda stated that she had come to adopt one of the children, the old lady responded that she wasn't sure if she was permitted to allow a Pandaren to take a human child. With that, the panda's eyes moved to the little Draenei, "its not a human I'm interested in". With that the two girls looked at each other in disbelief. The Panda knelt down placing a paw on the draenie's shoulder. "hello Lily, I am Heelakua". Lily felt oddly at ease with this stranger, to the point that it confused her. She couldn't speak as the old lady expressed her willingness to allow the panda to take the Draenei. The panda continued to speak, trying her best to project a calming essence on Lily, assuring her that she no longer had anything to fear. After a bit the panda stood back up, gently taking Lily's hand, and proceeded towards the door. As they walked Lily took a quick glance back, seeing her friend, still sitting in the corner of the lobby. Heelakua, took notice, and nest down, looking Lily in the eyes, "I know you two have a strong bond, but her path is different from yours, you both have greatness in your future, but this, you must achieve separately". As she spoke, tears began to form in both girls eyes, the panda gave Lily permission to give one more goodbye, and with that she ran to her human friend hugging her tight, and sobbing. "When I'm old enough, ill find you again" they promised each-other. With that began the next journey in the Draenei's life. A long one, were Heelakua a monk, felt the great potential that this sad, little Draenei who feared what evil had done to her parents, and feared that evil was seeking her out. While on there journey the panda glanced down at Lily, with great hope. For she knew through a dream that one day this child who is terrified of evil, will one day grow into something of great power, and on that day evil will be terrified of her.
