Journey to Another World 5 Ch. 5 That next day I had started the day with finally washing up my clothes and then proceeded outside with my family to get everything underway. The goal for today was to get everybody in shape for the upcoming battle with the gym leader since we really hadn't had any real decent battles since that one with that asshole Barry. So going around the town, I began to pick up bits and pieces of information on the gym leader. The gym leader was a man by the name of Wake, though I really didn't know if that was is first or last name. It was also said that he used water type Pokemon to battle his opponents, which would prove to be a little difficult than normal for me, as I refused to put Jenavee 'who was the only one of us who knew electric attacks' in harms way. The same went for Rena but she was only in that position as she too was carrying a child. That left me with only Kit, Undine, and the Mismagius. With Kit being a fire type, she was weak against water type attacks being a fire type, Undine was a water type, which would only make it an even match. Mismagius was a ghost, so that would prove to be my trump card. Thoughts came to mind of trying to find a grass type Pokemon, but I quickly put that out of my mind as I felt it would be wrong to capture a Pokemon just to have it for this battle alone. Though that was the least of my problems as I turned to the Mismagius and could see that she was still pretty upset about the news of what I needed from her, which I'd told her early in the day. * * *

(Earlier in the day in the café of the Pokemon Center)

  • * * *WHAT! I never agreed to that,* the Mismagius said as she floated over the table and shouted at me, giving me a small headache. The others had been eating their breakfasts, but stopped when the motherly ghost had been told the news of what I wanted to do today. Jenavee looked over to Rena and shook her head. 'You do not have to be psychic to know that this was coming.' Jenavee sent to Rena, which she could only nod back. "_ Though you do have to admit that she has a right to be angry ." Rena said back to Jenavee. " It is not every day that you have to give up your freedom to get something that you want ." I took a long sigh. I'd just finished telling her the news earlier of what was needed for her to battle for me in the gym battle, and she didn't like it one bit. "I've already told you this Mismagius." I said as I rubbed at my temples to try and get the headache to go away. "In order for you to go into a Pokemon battle for me against the gym leader, I need to capture you inside one of my Poke-balls. Once we've beaten the gym leader, then we'll leave here and 'RELEASE' you once we get to the Lost Tower in a few days." The Mismagius turned to Jenavee and scowled at her. *YOU! You knew that this would happen. You knew that he would put me into this kind of situation.* Jenavee just shook her head. "_NO I DID NOT!" Jenavee said back in just as threatening tone as the Mismagius. "And for your information, I can not read his future. As I know your about to ask." This got the ghost to shut up as a confused look appeared on her face. She looked down at me then quickly looked back at Jenavee, then back and forth a few more times. *That is not possible. I heard that all you Gardevoirs can read the future, as that is your special ability.* Jenavee didn't reply right away as she tried to think up a reasonable explanation without revealing anything deep about Donovin to the ghost or the others. "And that is what is so fascinating about him," She said with a smile to her face, "I kind of like the fact that I never know what is going to happen with him. It keeps things...interesting." She gave me a quick smile which got me to blush, then looked back up at the ghost that was still floating in mid air. "Besides. This really does not concern me that much, since I am only here to translate what you say to him. This is just between you two, so I would appreciate it if you would lay off the blame or you can find yourself another Pokemon who can translate for you." She finished with a bit of a snip at the ghost. When the ghost looked at the others sitting around the table, they all quickly shook their heads to say that they didn't want any part of this. Clearly lost in this small battle, she slowly floated back down but stared at her food in lament at agreeing to our deal. After a few minutes, I was finally fed up with her attitude and slapped both my hands down on the table. "Now, look Mismagius. I'm not the kind of trainer that is going to stand for this." I stopped as the ghost looked up at me with wide eyes. "I know that your last trainer has treated you very poorly, probably even like dirt, but that's not how I do things." I took in a deep breath then continued. "If you don't want to do this then don't. I am not forcing you into this kind of decision, you are. So if you want to try your luck at being caught again while looking around for your home, then there's the door." I pointed to the retracting doors as a trainer entered the Pokemon Center. "But if you want to stay with me, I can keep you outside your ball so you won't have to be cramped up inside of it and I can guarantee that I'll get you to the Lost Tower so you wont have to worry about trying to find it on your own and being captured by some random trainer that just happens to cross your path." By the time I finished my rant, my face was beat red and I was huffing and puffing. Then, just to mess with me, the dryer across the main hall from the café dinged, telling me that my clothes were now dry and needed to be collected. "I've got to go and collect my clothes. While I'm gone, I suggest that you rethink our deal and decide if you still want to go through with it. * * *

(Return to the present)

  • * * All my girls and the Mismagius formed a circle so that we all could talk together and decide on what we were going to do from here. "I think that this is far enough away from everything that we shouldn't be interrupted by anybody," I said as I looked around the area and nodded to myself then turned and looked across at the Mismagius that floated on the opposite side of the circle. "What shall it be? Do you want to try your luck out there and find the Lost Tower on your own or come with us for a few days and be safe?" The ghost looked around the circle at the other girls and tried to gaze into their eyes to see what they would tell her would be a good decision. The only problem was that each of the girls were looking at the ground and not giving her any hints as to what she should do. "This is a decision that you must make for yourself, Mismagius. We can not tell you what you should do, but it would be safer if you were to go with us." What the Mismagius failed to notice was the private conversation I had with/through Jenavee to the girls (using Jenavee's psychic powers, we all had a psychic conversation with each other) earlier. Though I hated to admit it, we really did need her help, and would probably have to put off the battle against the gym until both Rena and Jenavee have their children if the Mismagius decided not to help us. *Well then. I guess there is only one way to truly decide this.* She then floated back out of the group and stopped a little ways off. "Don't tell me. You want to have another battle." I asked rhetorically to which she nodded. *Of course.* She smirked at me, but the smirk quickly turned into a frown as she saw Kit nod to me then step forward to challenge the ghost. *Oh no. Not that one.* This confused me a bit as I looked down at Kit, who also a confused look on her muzzle. I looked around the group and gazed at each one of the girls in turn, only to look back at the ghost. "Then who do you want to fight? Surely not Rena or Jenavee." I said in a slightly fearful tone, but quickly ducked as a shadow ball shot just over my head. *What are you, insane? Of course not those two. You think, for an instant, that I would intentionally attack another mother who's carrying, when I know full well the consequences of doing so.* I was about to snap back at her but she just waved me off. *Rhetorical question. Plus, I have already battled against or have seen most of your other Pokemon fight.* Which left. "Alright then. I take it that you want to battle against Undine then." I turned to her and could see the angry look on her face and I knew the tongue lashing wasn't that far behind. But before that could happen the ghost quickly threw back her head and laughed. *That is right. I want to battle the weakest Pokemon you have. After all, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.* I don't think there could have been a better way to piss off somebody, than to be called weak. Especially a person who thinks so highly of themselves. Especially one large serpent who believed itself as a goddess. "Oh you are so going to get it." Undine said with a deep growl to her voice, as all the other girls quickly back away from the typhoon that was soon to occur. "No-one has the right to insult a goddess. Especially one as pathetic as you." The Mismagius just gave her a pathetic look, as if to say that that statement didn't hold any backbone to it. "That is right. I called you pathetic, and do you know why? It's because you...were...not...able...to...protect...your...child." 'Oh shit. Now she's done it.' I thought as I could see the look of boredom on the ghost's face quickly turn to one of rage. I turned to look over at Jenavee and she had just the same look of surprise as I probably had. 'What is she thinking Jenavee. You know that that is just going to throw her into a rage,' I thought to her. 'That is true Donovin, but was it not you who told us that we need to keep a level head in battle and not let our emotions get the better of us.' She sent back to me, but kept her eyes on the battle that was no doubt to occur in a flurry of attacks. I turned back and could see the ghost had it's head down and was now shaking with rage. 'Ya I did say that, but that was different from this.' Jenavee gave me a confused look. 'How are the two different. From what I can see, Undine's tactic is working perfectly. It has gotten Mismagius to loose her head, and now she will attack without thinking properly. Allowing Undine to easily defeat her.' I watched as the battle go underway and saw that indeed the intent had proven effective, but probably not to the end that Undine wanted. 'You fail to realize something,' I thought to her as I tried to call out to Undine to start dodging rapidly fired Shadow Balls from the ghost, but didn't need to as she was already doing just that. "There are two types of way a person can loose their heads in battle. The type before was when an opponent just charges ahead blindly." "And the second?" She asked as the battle started to intensify in strength. "The second, is when the rage is controlled and adds to the power of the attacks." And just as I finished saying that, an overly large Shadow Ball exploded not far from where we were standing. "Or is more commonly referred to as, going berserk." From that point on I had to pay attention to the battle as I watched Undine was beginning to realize the fault in her plan. At first I didn't know what to think about. I knew that this battle was supposed to be for me to capture her and thus allow her to fight in the gym, but also to tell me what types of attacks she knew. The only problem was that Mismagius was using only her Shadow Ball attack and nothing else. "UNDINE! USE TWISTER AS A SHIELD AND BACK OFF!" I shouted, in hopes of trying to get this battle under some kind of control. Undine headed my call and quickly brought her tail around to spin, which created the desired effect of a Twister. With the Twister in place, she was able to effectively create a shield the blocked the attacks from coming over to her. 'Alright. Now that I have a moment to think, I need to remember what types of attacks I've seen her use in the past.' Thinking for a moment I remembered that she knew Astonish that she used on Jenavee, and now this Shadow Ball. Which only left the other two and that could prove... Just then the ghost finally got her head on strait and went around the attack and then stared directly at Undine. "Undine! Close your eyes." And just as soon as I'd said that, the ghost's eyes flashed white for a moment, unleashing her Confuse Ray almost point blank. For a moment, I didn't know if the attack had proved effective or not, but when Undine had started to sway, I knew that the attack had worked. "Damn." I pulled out Undine's ball and prepared to recall her and switch out with Kit, but the ghost floated down and waved it's cloak at me. *No you do not. This is a one on one battle and I will not allow you to switch her out for that fire type.* She said as an evil grin quickly spread across her face. "Wait a minute. I never agreed to that." I said, scowling at the ghost. *Oh yes you did. When you sent Undine here,* She pointed over her shoulder at the still swaying serpent, *into the fight. That is a confirmation that you agreed to my terms.* She turned and looked over her shoulder at me. *Now if you will excuse me. I have a goddess to bring down.* "That is what you think sister." Undine said as several small blue orbs quickly start flying at the ghost at high velocity. The Mismagius didn't have a chance to dodge them all, and was promptly hit by several of them. When the barrage of blue balls ended (Author: Oh go ahead. Get your laughs in). It was the Mismagius that was swaying around confused. "Well, would you look at that. A nice twist of irony if I do say so myself." Undine stated as she looked down at me and gave me a smile. Giving her a smirk I reached into my side pouch and pulled out two things. The first was my Pokedex which, upon opening, informed me that the Mismagius still had a decent amount of health remaining, and the other a Pokeball for the capture later. "She still has quite a bit of health left. I think, one more Twister should do it, but don't use full force." Giving me a quick nod, Undine brought her tail around and made a Twister right under where the swaying Mismagius was still hovering. It only took a moment for the Twister to gather up the debris from the exploded earth thanks to the ghost's Shadow Ball barrage, and then start pummeling it with the stuff. Once the attack ended, I pointed the Pokedex at the ghost and confirmed that it's health was now in the red (as well as confused). So with that, I threw the ball and hit the ghost on her hat. The ghost turned into a white light that was promptly sucked into the ball which had just snapped open. When the light was fully in the ball, it closed with a snap and fell to the earth. We all stared at the ball as it continued to rock with the ghost's attempts of breaking the locking mechanism which kept it inside. Finally, the effort must have worn out the ghost to the point of exhaustion and the ball won over her attempts to free herself with its signature ping sound. Effectively ending the capture procedure and adding her to my team. With the ping came happy cheers from the girls as they shouted out several praising words to Undine for a well fought battle against the ghost. "Your right. I did do a really good job defeating that ghost." But they all went quiet as I slowly walked over and saw that I was shaking. All the girls slowly backed away from my path to her and knew that something was up. Once I got up to her, I looked up at her and tugged at her long red feelers. Undine lowered her head and looked me square in the eye. "Yes?" She asked. "I don't know whether to congratulate you on a well fought battle. Or yell at you for that stupid tactic that you used against her." This got everybody to stare at us with wide eyes. Undine raised up her big head and cocked her head to the side. "What are you talking about? I just used the same tactic that you used that other time," She said back to me. "That's right. I...used," I said up to her. "The problem was that your tactic wasn't that well thought out. Instead of having her attack you blindly, she attacked you with precise strength." This got her to cock her head to the other side in more confusion. "You remember all those Shadow Balls that she was throwing at you?" She nodded down to me. "You remember that you had to dodge a lot more often then you'd have to if somebody were throwing them around, as if they had on a blindfold." Another nod. "That's the difference. She had control over her anger and that made her attacks that much more powerful." "Well that may be true, but I still won did I not?" She asked rhetorically. "You may have won Undine, but that was a lucky win," I told her as I held out the Mismagius's ball. "That battle could have just as easily gone to her as it did to you. Just be thankful that you weren't hit with the full intensity of her Confuse Ray." Placing the Mismagius's ball on my belt, I turned and looked over my shoulder at the group that was just staring at me. "Alright everybody. Let's head back to the center and get Undine and Mismagius all healed up for our battle against that gym leader Wake." With a quick nod from everybody, the girls quickly took up positions on either side of me, and we all headed back to the center. (Author: Thanks Vicious Reader for editing this chapter.
