Another chapter down whew! This story is chugging along better than I thought, so thanks to all you that have read, commented, faved, voted, and followed this story.

"Collars . . ." Jeeve absolutely hated collars. Green ones, blue ones, red ones, chained ones, or rope ones . . . They were the mark of a slave, and Javari absolutely despised them. Jeeve was taking a stroll through the park, discreetly observing pokemon and their humans.

Jeeve hadn't found anything interesting yet, but his search quickly became fruitful when he heard someone say "And you sit here! I'll be back in a few okay?" Javari looked over and almost screamed at the sight. Tied to a nearby bench sat an old friend of Jeeve, Carl Bernays. The two had been great friends in 9th grade, both having been avid members of the Av club. He sat forlornly on the ground absentmindedly playing with a few rocks. Jeeve's fist scrunched in anger as he saw the hot pink collar affixed to his neck.

Jeeve watched in relief as the blaziken that owned him walked away with her friends chatting away, leaving him the perfect window to slide over. The unmated human walked over and said

"Hey Carl! Buddy it's me!" Carl looked over at Jeeve and seemed to be lost in thought before he said

"J-Jeeve? Is that you?" Carl asked in slight trepidation.

"Yea man it's me, Jeeve Javari! We we're in the the AV club together!" Carl smiled brightly and stood up saying

"Wow dude, so glad to see you!" Carl opened his arms and walked over to hug him, but his short leash yanked on his neck and caused him to fall back.

"Hey Carl! You alright man!?" Jeeve asked while kneeling down with his arm outstretched.

Carl smiled and said "Don't worry man, it's all good. How have you been?"

Jeeve's eyes focused on his collar when he replied "How long ago?"

Carl turned his head saying "about a month ago . . . I-I . ." Jeeve sat down next to his friend and comforted him saying

"Hey Carl it's alright man, it's alright! Do you wanna talk about it?" Carl steadied his breathing and replied

"Sorry Jeeve, I just lost it for a sec. I thought I'd be one of the lucky ones you know? Just look at me! I'm fat, pale skinned computer nerd! I've got greasy skin and terrible acne! Why would I get mated off!?" Jeeve patted Carl on the shoulder and let him continue.

"I remember when it happened man . . . I had closed up my locker and was making my way home, when she appeared."

"Your owner?" Jeeve asked, disgusted with the fact he had even said that.

"Yea Chelsea. The way it happened was so weird too man! I was walking home minding my own business and I saw her before she saw me. She was sitting down sipping on some drink. She casually glanced my way and turned her nose up at me, like most females did, but as soon as I walked past her . . . She like changed."

Jeeve pulled out his notebook then asked "Changed? Like how?"

"Well like I said, when she saw me from a distance she gave me a look of disgust, like I was ugly or something, but the moment I walked past her, she almost pounced on me! She grabbed a hold of me and told me we were going to mate. I tried to lie and say I wasn't 18 yet, but she called me out on it saying I had just turned 18! How'd she know man?!"

"Hmm interesting . . . She could've looked you up in the HumaDex, you know it has the information of all human's with upcoming birthdays."

"Yea true, but she would've had to have known who I was and let's get real for a second . . . I wasn't exactly a popular guy in high school." Jeeve scratched his chin and looked at his scattered notes, he knew the answer was starting him in the face, but the human couldn't quite place the solution.

"Enjoy it while you can dude. Don't take being free for granted because when it's gone . . . it's gone."

"Don't worry Carl, I'm working on a little side project. I think I might be able to stop pokemon from mating humans once their 18." Carl scoffed and folded his arms saying

"Why avoid the inevitable? Your wasting your time man, just think of all the humans that have tried to do the same thing before you! What you should be focusing on is finding a good mate, someone who will take care of you when the time comes."

"Have you lost your marbles?! You can't be serious right now!"

"I can and I am dude. I was lucky to land with Chelsea, I could've been mated to . . . A collector." Both humans shivered at the thought, for there was nothing more worse than being added to a pokemon's collection. Harems among the creatures were a common thing, but most humans that got added to one didn't live past 25.

"Look Carl, I think you're brain's been fried! How can you tell me to just suck it up!? I'm offering the world a solution!"

"The world doesn't need a solution Jeeve . . . Look man every human knows what's coming on their big day so why fight it? You're going to suffer more trying to fight the pokemon race than you are just going with the flow, besides . . . There's plants everywhere!"

"You talking about spies?"

"Oh yea man! They place humans in other human groups to see who's gonna disobey. The plants then feed the humans false information and purposely get them caught! It happened to my cousin, so forget about this whole fighting back business. Life's not so bad once you get used to it. Chelsea and I have a surprisingly great relationship, she feeds me, we hang out all the time, and the sex is pretty good too!"

"Carl you poor naive fool! So she gives you food, water, and sex! Is that all you're good for!? Listen to yourself man, you sound brainwashed!" Carl sighed and buried his face in his hands saying

"This is my only way to cope . . . I try to look at the situation like this because if I don't . . . Uh oh She's back!" The boys looked to their left and sighed as Chelsea walked up to them, her friends in tow. Jeeve shuffled off to the side and watched as Chelsea said

"Oh how's my little Carly?"

"Uh I've been fine Master." Chelsea and her friend looked at Jeeve and asked

"Whoa! Who's human is that?! I've never seen one with skin this color before!" Jeeve slowly back up saying

"Heh . . . I'm no one's human."

Chelsea giggled saying "Well not yet anyway! Say he's a cutie huh Mandy?" The zoroark by her side quickly growled and said

"My name is not Mandy!"

"Sorry Mindy! You know how I get when I'm excited!" Mindy and Jeeve locked gazes for a second, before the human coughed saying

"Well this has been fun, but I've really got to be going. Take care Carl!" The human walked away and cringed at the chills he felt going up his spine. Something about the zoroark didn't settle well with him, but he didn't have the time to worry about it.

JEEVE'S APARTMENT

Jeeve slammed his fist against his desk screaming "C22H23 . . . C22H23!? Mom what the hell is this?!" The human had been stressing all afternoon, working on cracking his mother's extremely confusing formula. When Jeeve first started working on the repelent he had been happy knowing his mother had donw most of the hard work for him. The only thing he had to figure out was the other half of the equation, and that was easier said than done.

It seemed his mother had really wanted to make this difficult for him. Jeeve had tried calling his mother but she hadn't been answering her phone. The human had made a note to go visit her but he knew it would be awhile before he could go. Jeeve looked over his notes and scrunched his face up at the problem

"Couldn't just tell me what to do could you? Had to make me work for it huh!?" Jeeve sighed and took his glasses off, the human's eyes were practically burning with how long he'd been staring at the screen. He stood and began stretching, but stopped at the sound of his phones ringing. Jeeve groaned as he realized he hadn't set his phone to do not disturb.

The human looked down and didn't recognize the number, so he plugged his phone into his computer and blocked his location. Once he was done he answered asking.

"Hello? Who's there?"

"Jeeve? Hey Jeeve you there? It's me Amanda!" The scholar sighed in relief, remembering he had given her his number and said.

"Oh hey Amanda. How's it going?"

"Pretty good, I've been knocking out my late work for government, so I might graduate!"

Jeeve wondered what the point of her calling was and said "Well don't let me slow you down. You don't have to humor me if you're busy."

"Oh no! I-I just wanted to know if you wanted to go out for dinner tonight!" Peculiar . . . Very peculiar thought Jeeve. He's never been asked out by a human before and it was a very surreal feeling. Jeeve looked over at the notes on his desk and said

"Well I'd love too, trust me I would, but given the circumstances . . . I-I just don't think it's worth it you know?"

"I-I'm sorry Javari. I just wanted to hang out with you before you tomorrow you know? Apologies for wasting your time . . ." Jeeve ran his hand through his hair and sighed. He'd forgotten all about tomorrow, which was Kalos' high annual Mateship day. Every few months the school would gather all the humans with birthdays coming up, and throw an assembly in their honor.

On paper it sounded innocent, but in actuality is was just a large pre-auction. Every Mateship day ended practically the same way, with several pokemon in hospital, beaten and bruised for trying to make a move on someone's potential mate. Jeeve hummed to himself and began thinking about it. The human had never been on a date before, and this would probably be the last time he'd get to spend time with his own species, so he said.

"Wait! I would love to go out with you tonight!" Jeeve cringed and held the phone away from his ear as Amanda squeled saying

"Oh my Arceus yes! Where should we meet!? What should we eat!? What should I even wear?!"

"Amanda calm down . . . We'll meet at the Grease Trap around . . . Say 5ish?"

"5 sounds good! Thanks so much Jeeve! You won't regret taking me out!" The excited human hung up, leaving Jeeve alone once more. He shrugged and began tidying up his work place, he didn't know what to expect from Amanda, but she seemed nice enough and Arceus knows he needed to have a little fun.

Jeeve checked his watch and saw it read 3:37. "Well just enough time to try and figure this out." The human replayed his conversation with Carlos and dwelled on a certain part. Carlos had mentioned that Chelsea originally had no attraction to him whatsoever, but for some reason latched onto him when he had gotten close enough to her.

"Maybe it's in their DNA?" Thought Jeeve as he scoured his notes for a supporting part. It made sense to him, pokemon getting all worked up for humans on their 18th birthdays and what not, but there was one thing that still bothered him. "Why would pokemon just want random humans? What drives them to latch on like that?"

Jeeve sat back in his chair practically beating the answer out of his head. "W-Wait! That's it! Pheromones . . ." Javari scrolled through his mother's research and clicked on a paragraph that talked about pokemon's reaction to certain seasons.

"Data Entry Log #452- Pidgies and the Beedrills. Pokemon have a very acute sense of smell, but it's not the smell that gets them worked up during their cycles. Pheromones mates release are very much catalysts for their behavior but this is typical of pokemon-pokemon relationships. The issue however comes when human are taken as mates. Human pheromones _ are much stronger than that of a pokemon's. Just the sheer molecule count alone is something to behold! But where my team and I become lost is why it's released on someone's 18th birthday. I have theories but they're just that theories . . . Bur I digress . . . We're still no closer to stopping the Pokemon Flu! The best we've been able to come up with is a suppressant that blocks the human_ pheromone_ from triggering Pokemon. It's an interesting discovery, but I doubt a_ pheromone_ suppressant is what my superiors would want me working right now._

Jeeve scribbled down some more notes and exhaled in relief. He finally had another lead to go off of, but not enough time it seemed. The human checked his watch and stopped his work where it was. He resolved to get back to it after his date with Amanda. _ _

GREASE TRAP

"I'm telling you D. You have to try the fried tentacool guts! I know it sounds nasty, but once you taste the succulent juices of-"

"Stop! Just Stop!" Dahlia said while gagging. The two had been waiting for Jeeve so they could have dinner, but he hadn't shown up yet. Dahlia had grown impatient waiting for her friend, but Ricardo seemed alright with his absence, passing the time with bad jokes and even worse food suggestions.

"So D? You hear about Jennifer?"

"Yea sad isn't it?"

"You're telling me! She was on my list of potential mates, now I'm down to a few stragglers . . . Say do you think Jeeve is mad at me?" Dahlia tilted her head in confusion asking.

"Why would he be mad at you?"

"He didn't pick me up after school, in fact he's been avoiding us all day. Maybe I said something that offended him?" Dahlia sighed and placed her paw on Rick's saying.

"It's not you. Jeeve and I had a fight earlier, he's probably still sore about what I said."

"Wow you and J had a fight? Guess you must've hurt him real bad."

"Yea I guess . . ." Ricardo nodded and stopped talking, resolving to the two friends sitting in awkward silence. Dahlia folded her arms and sighed as her thoughts again floated to her love Jeeve. The delphox had been struggling with containing her urges around the male, and it was definitively showing in her aloof attitude.

Dahlia sighed and tried to clear her thoughts of the human, but failed miserably. Jeeve was so ingrained in her mind that she swore she could here the human now.

"Thanks again for taking me out Jeeve."

"Aw don't mention it. Truth be told, I've never been on a date with a human before. Weird isn't it?" Amanda laughed warmly and just clung to Jeeve's arm as he led her to a nearby seat. Dahlia leaned around her booth and almost screamed at the sight.

Eating dinner a few tables down was Jeeve and some girl Dahlia didn't recognize. The two were laughing and joking, as if they'd been friends for years. Though Dahlia's seething attitude came from the possessive hold that Amanda had on Jeeve's arm. The smaller human clung dreamily to him, occasionally rubbing her head against him. A tell tale sign of an infatuated female.

Ricardo gently tapped Dahlia and said "Hey uh . . . Dahlia?" The delphox turned and barred her fangs saying

"What!?"

"Well you uh see . . . Your claws are breaking the table." Dahlia looked down and indeed saw her canine claws, tearing sizable holes into the diner's table. She relented saying

"How could that jerk stand us up for her?! What's she got that I don't have?!" Ricardo stared dreamily and replied

"Soft peachy skin, sparkling blue eyes, a bright smile, and gorgeous blonde hair . . . What a fox . ." Dahlia smacked Ricardo with her menu saying

"Shut up Rick! I'm going to go over there and give him a piece of my mind!" The delphox stood, but was quickly pulled down by Ricardo who said

"Whoa whoa whoa! You can't just go and blast him like that! You don't want to drive an even larger wedge between you two!" The delphox looked at her love then Ricardo and sighed saying.

"You're right . . . But what am I supposed to do!?"

"Nothing really."

"What?!"

"I mean it doesn't matter what you do really. Let Jeeve date all the humans in the world it doesn't matter because once he's 18, he'll be in the hands of some waiting pokemon."

"I know that! But I still don't like this! Jeeve has never shown interest in a human before . . . What's so special about her? Hey let's listen in." Ricardo nodded and cupped his paws to his ears saying.

"Roger that Captain!"

"So Jeeve, how's the formula going?" The scholar smiled saying

"It's going I guess? I've run into a little technical snag and I don't know if I can finish it before Amy's birthday." Amanda smiled faltered a little before she said

"You mean Jason's birthday."

"No? I mean Amy's. Jason said Amy's birthday was in 3 days . . . Well two now I guess."

"No it's Jason's birthday in two days. He's really prideful and didn't want you to know he had the first birthday." Jeeve got a weird feeling after her response but shrugged it off and said

"Well whomever's birthday it is, I don't think I'll be done by then . . ." Amanda nodded solemnly then perked up saying.

"Let's not talk about depressing stuff tonight, what I want to know is how you became so successful!"

"HA! Successful? Now I know you're smitten, I am like the least successful person I know."

"Aw don't be so modest! You're the only human to have their own car, you live by yourself, and you have a pretty good job! You're basically independent and you're not even 18 yet! How'd you do it!?" Jeeve chuckled at her enthusiasm saying.

"Well if I'm being honest I had some help from my friends . . . Dahlia especially. She's the reason I even work here! She helped me pay for my car too, can you believe it?! She pitched in and buy something that she doesn't even use!"

Amanda looked off to the side saying "Sounds like you really like her . . ."

"Of course I do! We're really close friends."

"Are you going to pick her as your mate next week?" Jeeve raised his eyebrow quizzically at the question, for why would she ask something like that if she knew what they were working on?

"Well you know humans don't choose their mates, but even if I had a choice I don't think Dahlia would choose me."

Dahlia heart tightened at his words. She thought she had made her feelings plain as day for the human.

"Why not Jeeve? You two are like the perfect couple, both species on the exotic end of the spectrum. I'm sure she's planning on mating you as we speak!"

"You have no idea . . ." Dahlia thought as she continued listening.

"Yea but we had a bit of a falling out earlier . . . I know I should go and apologize, but I'm too chicken." Amanda laughed and playfully smacked Jeeve's arm saying

"Don't leave her waiting! She's a good pokemon and I know you'd two be perfect together!" Jeeve held a warm smile on the outside, but he was fighting the urge to blow Amanda out the water. The scholar didn't know what was wrong with her, but she was seriously creeping him out. Just yesterday she had been talking about building the repellent and now she was encouraging him to get with Dahlia.

The human's mind went back to his earlier conversation with Carl and immediately remembered what he had said about spies. Could Amanda be a spy working for Dahlia? The thought was enough to make the human shudder in her grip, but the more he thought the more he realized he was probably just over reacting. Amanda was most likely trying to save face in public, and talking about a bio weapon was a surefire way to get in trouble.

The human relaxed in her grip and even leaned into her touch, though the moment didn't last. Jeeve and Amanda looked up and scowled as they saw the pokemon that walked in. Cedric the Destroyer as he was affectionately called was Kalos High's resident bully. The charizard had been the one taunting Jeeve during his presentation and a serious frequenter of Arc's Hideout. Jeeve's worry increased tenfold as Cedric smiled saying.

"Well if it isn't my good friend Jeeve!"

"The hell do you want?!"

"Whoa why the hostility? I just came by to pick up some food, the stuff's been declining in quality at Arc's. So . . . How's your mother?" Jeeve instantly stood and got in Cedric's face asking

"What's you do to her!?"

"Me!? Hurt the savior of the pokemon race? I would never!"

Jeeve reached for his phone and dialed his mother's number. The human paced around impatiently, but was instantly met with his mother's voicemail.

"I'm not going to ask again . . . What did you do to my mom?!" Cedric chuckled and said.

"And I'm not going to tell you again . . . I did nothing to your slutty mom. I went to pick up some dinner and saw she wasn't there. Being the good patron I am, I asked about her and Arc said he hadn't seen her all day. The lady never came in . . ."

"N-Never c-came i-in!?" Jeeve racked his brain then clutched his heart as he realized where she could be.

"Oh Arceus . . . Amanda I have to go!" Jeeve pushed past Cedric and dashed for the door, leaving Amanda by herself. Dahlia looked to Ricardo saying

"I'm going after him! You cover the bill!" Ricardo reached for her calling out, but the delphox had already dashed off.

"Cover the bill she says . . . With what money!?" Ricardo asked.

Jeeve hopped in his car and started his car worried. He had a feeling something was wrong when she hadn't answered the first time, but he had ignored it like an idiot. Jeeve car purred to live and he almost took off, if it wasn't for a certain delphox standing in front of his car. The two shared exchanged apologetic looks before Jeeve yelled

"Get in!" Dahlia quickly hopped in saying.

"Thanks."

"No thank you . . ." He threw the car in drive and barreled down the road, narrowly missing the other drivers. The two rode in silence before Jeeve piped up saying.

"Sorry Dahlia."

"For what?"

"Ditching you guys for dinner and being a jerk earlier . . ." The delphox smiled and replied.

"Don't mention it, I guess I'm sorry for what I said too." Jeeve smirked saying.

"You guess? Well no matter, I guess you were eavesdropping the whole time huh?"

"You know it. Where do you think your mom is?"

"I'm going to try her apartment first, but I have this nagging feeling she's not there."

"Hey don't worry, I'm sure she's fine J." He nodded and returned his focus on the road saying.

"Do you think I'm wasting my time too? Should I even be building repellent?!"

"Pull over . . ." Jeeve wanted to protest, but sighed and obeyed, pulling off to the side of the road. The human looked over to Dahlia for an explanation, but instead of words he was met with the warm sensation of her lips. Jeeve moaned in delight and opened his mouth, basking in the sensation of her warm tongue gliding through his cavern. The two continued their dance of tongues but stopped at the need of air.

The two panted in each other's embrace, neither of them wanting to ruin the moment with needless words. Dahlia smiled and cupped his cheek saying.

"I'm here for you. I'll stand by you in whatever you do, you know that right?" Jeeve nodded and buried his face in her neck sobbing softly, leaving her to rub soothing circles in his back.

"I-I love you Dahlia . . . I'm just afraid." She stopped massaging him and asked.

"Of what?"

"How things will be from now on . . . What happens between us now?"

"We'll cross that bridge when we get there Love . . ."
