Chapter 2

He wasn't trying to fall asleep but soon he awoke out of a deep slumber, he looked around Archer had returned and fallen asleep as well. The cave was shadowed, Chestnut Scrambled to his paws and looked around. I wonder if what the fox said is true, he thought, what strange place have I entered? Chestnut padded over to where the fox had left some nuts for him, he wasn't hungry, but eating made things feel more normal. Chestnut watched as the fox stirred, he lifted his head and glanced at Chestnut.

"Morning." Archer barked, scrambling to his paws. "Something has been going on in the east forest, but not many know what it is, I went to a meeting last night, but no one new anything new as usual." His eyes betrayed his fear, and his ruffled pelt didn't hide anything either.

"Maybe it's nothing." Chestnut replied, as he felt fear creeping into his head, Archer's fear was infecting him.

"No it's definitely something." Archer replied, "I must go again, I have more things to attend to."

"Ok." Chestnut replied, as Archer exited the cave. Chestnut suddenly realized how tired he was, padding back to the moss nest he originally woke up in and curled up to go to sleep. It didn't take long for him to drift of.

Chestnut awoke, looking around, Archer was still missing. Chestnut scrambled to his paws and traveled wobbly towards the entrance, exiting into the strange world he'd entered. The trees were tall scratching the sky with their uppermost branches the sky itself was a marvel, a swirl of the blue sky of day and the black starry sky of night. The grass was wet probably due to the heavy mist surrounding him. Chestnut set off for the tree ahead of him, but for his lack of sight found it nearly impossible to begin climbing much less make it up the tree. His vision was made up of one clear and one blurry, and he wondered if it would stay like that forever.

Chestnut awoke once again in the cave, how did I get here? He wondered. "Oh you're awake," Archer barked, "Last night, you were passed out beneath a tree." "I forgot to tell you that having one eye will heavily disorient you, and in turn cause you to exhaust much faster," He continued, "So try to lay low till you recover."

"Ok." Chestnut replied. He could have sworn that Archer's eyes were different, redder in some way but still bluish. Chestnut took his advice to heart and tried to refrain from action. The days and nights began to blur together, sleep came whenever it came and Archer came and went continually reapplying the salve of herb to Chestnut's eye. Eventually Chestnut realized that he was getting weaker, and one day asked Archer about it, but his only reply was "It's normal, not being active will weaken your muscles but it's necessary for recovery." Chestnut knew something was wrong but what? He had also noticed that Archer's eyes were getting redder and less blue. As the days blurred past, fear began to well up in Chestnuts chest, fear that whatever was wrong was claiming his soul!
