#1 of Raseri: The Unbreakable Bond

This is the prologue for the story I have been working on for a couple of months. There will be more to come. Chapter 1 should be posted tomorrow

Prologue

I sat in a well lite room. An old wrinkly man sat across from me. He had a white lab coat on and a button up plaid shirt on underneath it. He wore a plain black tie with a clip on it to small for me to tell what it said. He had short graying hair that was parted down the middle. I knew that the building was ancient. They had tried to cover it up with nice paintings, paint and plants but i could still see the old bullet holes from when this place had been taken over by us humans during The Cleanse. He was looking at me expectantly after telling me the true purpose of this old bunker out here in the middle of nowhere.

"I have always been smart especially when it came to science. I was always at the top of my class no matter the subject. I graduated high school when I was sixteen and went straight into a prestigious college." I took a deep breath and shifted in my chair "I was able to cram a four year college degree in to two years. I did a lot of looking around for a lab I could get in to I'm my field and found this one that was researching how to augment people in a attempt to remove sickness. At least that is what they told me and the ones founding the project. When i got here i discovered the truth about what was going on. That you are considered a group of radicals that want to re populate the dead race known as the Raseri." I shook my head and scoffed "I don't think i want any part in this. Even a child knows the story about how the Raseri were a savage race" I shifted again "They would eat any human, man woman or child given the chance. We killed every single one of them off for a reason, we even gave them a chance to live in peace first but they would not give up." I sighed "You want to bring them back? I don't want to waste my talents here"

"Our ancestors were wrong in what they did. We should have never eradicated them. We were wrong in telling the story." the man before me said standing.

"What proof do you have to support this?" i asked. This was the first i had heard of anyone thinking we were in the wrong.

"There's a reason that this bunker is out in the middle of the woods. Long ago before the war, this was a lab that was run by the Raseri researching crio freezing."

"You still haven't shown any proof. I am a scientist I need proof."

"Come with me. I will show you what we have found" he said leading the way out of the small room we had been in. We walked down deep into the bowels of the bunker. Finally we reached a door, he paused for a moment to punch in a number and swipe the ID card that had been hanging around his neck.

When I walked into the room I was speechless. The room was one of the biggest in the bunker I had seen. The walls were lined with computers and instruments reading vital signs and supplying power to a pod in the middle of the room. The pod was beat up. The glass was cracked in the front and looked many years old. I got close to the pod and took a look inside through the frosty glass. To My amazement there was a Raseri appearing to be asleep. It was hard to determine anything other then the fact she was a fox.

"What do we known about it?" I asked amazed, still looking on in wonder at the creature before me.

The scientist responded "Nothing you get to know as of yet. That is unless you are going to take the job If You want to know what it is you are looking at then except the job then you can , do whatever test you want and learn."

"But wait. How do you know that this is a Raseri? This could be some kind of joke."

"There was one file that survived all the years this sat here. It was a log of what happened here and what this pod was for but nothing on what or who is in the pod."

He lead me over to the computer that was hooked up to what looked like a server. On the screen was a jumbled text file but I could still make most of it out.

Daily logs for room 1092:

Day: 623

Employee: Jenkins

Test from previous night inconclusive. I have had no luck re-creating the parameters. Maybe we were not meant to do this. We are so close but can't seem to re-animate.

Day: 628

Employee: Shalamar

I feel so bad for the little guy. Hammy the hamster was a trouper but we were unable to keep him stable during the re-animating process. Something keeps going wrong when we try to speed up the heart rate. I don't know what I'm going to tell Jenny when I get home about her hamster. I hope she will forgive me.

Day: 632

Employee: Shalamar

We are under attack! These dam human purest. We have always tried to help them. Why do they hate us? if anyone survives this tell Jenny I'm sorry. This might kill me but I'm going to do what i can to survive. Anything is better than what the humans will do to me.

End of daily logs for room 1092

This info that they provided was enough to make me want to take the job.

I turned the the old scientist "when can I start?" I asked
