#6 of The Last Dragonboy

Chapter 6 of my Christian fantasy story, The Last Dragonboy!

As Percival flew with me on his back, I looked around. I had never been so high up before. I felt like I was really flying. I felt so free. The clear blue sky was so beautiful. And I loved seeing the beautiful forests and trees pass by.

"I'm sure our little friend Fenris is around here somewhere. He is a forest dragon after all"

"Yeah...I remember he loves the forest and loves animals!" I chuckled.

Percival dove down to the forest and then landed gently in front of a young forest dragon. The dragon was looking down to the ground, with tears flowing out of his eyes. He looked really upset.

"Hey, Fen...I brought the dragonboy"

The forest dragon looked at us then gasped in fear and shivered.

"Hey it's okay little guy. I'm not going to hurt you. What's wrong?"

"It's nothing...it's just...a big mean scary bat stole my fruits and vegetables..." Fenris sniffled in sorrow.

"A bat you say? Dear Fenris, don't you want to get your food back?" Percival asked.

"No...he's too big and scary..." Fenris whimpered.

I got off Percival's back and placed my hand on Fen's snout. "That bat sounds like just a big bully to me. When I was in school, whenever a bully tried to take things from me, I stood up to them and socked them back! You're not gonna let that big mean bat just have all your food right?"

"I want my food back..but if I try to stand up to him, he'll just hurt me really badly..." Fenris cried some more.

"I won't let him hurt you. Neither will Percival. Will you be brave? We can do this together". I offered my hand and Fenris looked at my hand shyly before shaking it with his paw.

"Okay, Mr...what's your name?".

"I'm Ezekiel. I'm the dragonboy. Now where is this bat's cave?"

"Just on that mountain..." Fenris pointed to a large mountain cave.

"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go get that bat!" Percival spread his wings and took off. "Let's go, Fen. Give me a ride". Fenris nodded and lowered his head for me to climb on. Then we flew to the bat's cave.

We landed gently at the entrance of the cave. We heard heavy breathing coming from it. It sounded like something was sleeping in there. Fenris tensed up and shivered.

"I'm scared..."

"Please don't be frightened, young Fenris. You have to stand up to that bat! You have to try!" Percival tried to encourage Fenris. I took Fen's hand. "I'll be with you...every step of the way. I promise".

I slowly walked with Fenris into the cave. And there the bat was. A big brown bat, hoarding all kinds of fruits and vegetables. The bat noticed our presence and turned around to glare at us.

"You shouldn't have come here...get out..." the bat spoke in a menacing voice.

Fenris whimpered, but then looked up at the bat. "I'm not going away...you stole my food and I want it back!"

"Aww boo hoo...what's a little dragon like you going to do to stop me? It's my food now..."

"No...it's mine! I want it back because you took it from me!" He started to shake in anger. Percival and I looked at each other.

"Thinking what I'm thinking, dragonboy?"

"Yeah, totally!"

"Aww you're so cute when you're angry...go on, roar and cry!" the bat taunted. Fenris growled and dove for the food but the bat grabbed him in his wings!

"Let me go you big bully! Or else!"

"Or else what, you puny helpless lizard?!"

Fenris roared at the insult and bit hard on the bat's claws which made the bat screech and drop him.

"I may be a vegetarian but I have sharp teeth!".

"You little runt! Come here!"

The bat flew towards Fenris, but Fenris reacted quickly and cast nature magic on the bat, making tight vines appear and wrap around the bat's body and squeeze the bat tight!

"What is this?! Let me go!"

Fenris growled as he made the vines continue to squeeze the bat tight. "No...I won't let you go...not until you give me back my food and promise to be a good bat!".

The bat started to cry as the vines squeezed him. Percival and I looked at each other concerned. Percival frowned and put his paw on Fen's shoulder. "Fenris...you're better than this. There's got to be a better idea..."

Fenris growled. "He treated me badly and I want revenge..."

"No, Fenris. Do not take revenge. Don't you see the poor bat? You're hurting him. You must forgive. and love your neighbor as yourself..."

Fenris frowned and sighed as he made the vines disappear. The bat was looking down and crying after he was released. Fenris started to feel bad as he got closer to the bat.

"Mr. Bat? I'm sorry I treated you so bad in return...I want to propose something..."

The bat shivered in fear as he looked down at Fenris. Fenris could see the fear in his eyes.

"I'll tell you what...if I share my food with you, will you promise to be a good bat? I'll give you half...the rest of it is mine though..."

The bat smiled a little and hugged Fenris with his wings. "It's a deal"

Percival and I looked at each other and smiled. Then we walked up to the bat as well.

"You see Fenris? When you loved and forgave, you made a new friend"

"Yeah! He wasn't so scary after all. He was just misunderstood" I hugged the bat as well.

"I love you guys. You are all my new friends" the bat hugged us and squeezed us in his big wings. He felt so warm and comfortable. I never knew what it was like to be hugged by such a big winged creature.

"We'll come visit some other time. We've got unfinished business" Percival wiggled himself and us out of the bat's grip.

"Oh...okay! Well I'll see you good dragons later!" the bat waved goodbye. We all said goodbye as we flew out of the bat's cave together.

"You're not so scared anymore are you, Fenris" Percival asked.

"Nope! I had fun too!" Fenris laughed.

"I'm glad. Now let's go find Ignatius!"

I wondered where a big fire dragon like Ignatius would normally be hiding. I thought for a bit and then I saw a volcano.

"Let's try that volcano! If there's one thing I know it's that fire dragons love lava baths!"

"Brilliant idea dragonboy! Let us go to the fiery volcano!"

"I don't like volcanoes...they're so scary!" Fenris whined

"It'll be fine Fenris. Won't you be glad to see our leader Ignatius again?" Percival asked.

"Well, sure! He's our friend. Although he can be stubborn sometimes..."

We all laughed as he headed to the volcano, getting close to the end of our quest...could we calm this big fire dragon? I hoped so...only time would tell.
