To fix my world (young dragon)

Chapter 1

Remembering memories, meeting new friends

I feel my world has been sort of falling apart lately, but I can't really say it was ever stable.

Since the fall of humanity everything's changed or at least that's what my dad used to tell me.

They say we are what we are because something was destroyed and we are what was born from it, I don't believe that...I believe we became this from our own choosing because we found how to break our own limits.

My father always used to tell me these stories of how humans had lived all over the world, even where we were standing at some point, at the time I never really knew what humans were.

For all I knew they could have been little bugs crawling on the ground but my dad knew how to say things he explained how we were once like them but we changed because of the chemicals left on the planet.

I still don't fully understand everything he told me, but I know he was very smart and liked to travel a lot and he'd always have something new to say when he had returned from his journeys...I always looked up to him...I still do...I want to be just like him someday...

Though I often hear I'm just like him, I'm not really ready for that...

I'd know when I was if I was able to find him.

My dad always used to treat me very specially, he'd always try to teach me things when I was young and showed me how our culture has changed and evolved throughout history as I started to grow older.

Maybe it had something to do with my age, I was the youngest out of 4 siblings 3 older brothers and one older sister before he disappeared, then a little while later on we found out our mother was to bare another child.

That was the day that devastated our family, with my dad gone we were already in a rut but as my mother had my little sister...she didn't pull through.

I almost broke down and cried as I sensed her presence fading, they told us it was a complication but I don't know what it was really...no one could fully explain it to me while I was distraught.

We only made it through because of a great family friend of my dad took us all in, he seemed always so caring but it wasn't the same as our parents...he was very different from us, he looked nothing like us but he still seemed to care more than anyone else.

I always asked myself why these things happened but I guess there's no real answer for that is there.

But that's most of my life always asking questions and always wanting to find answers...always needing someone to explain the rest to me.

My name is Xavier Eiron but most everyone calls me Xee.

My scales are a deep green like my fathers and my eyes are a gold amber like my mothers.

My sister always told me I was a good flyer and my brother always said I would a nice catch for a mate some day.

I have symbols on my wings that only very few dragons have, and I'm the only one in my family that I know of that has it.

As I was growing up my dad always taught me stuff until he disappeared, but soon after we were all being taught by the elders in our village that we lived in.

I'm just over 20 right now which is really young for a dragon considering many have lived for more than a thousand years my dad was in his 350's and me and the rest of my siblings are about 15 years apart between each of us, most others would consider me a child and at times I might believe them.

I wasn't all too big and I wasn't slim I was just at an average size compared to my brothers who were always showing off there strength.

I knew though that I was fine for my body I really couldn't complain, it was getting me through life so far without to much damage, I seemed to heal quickly from injury and I was careful not to hurt myself when I tried anything dangerous.

I live in a world where we've adapted little findings of technology from the human era and used them to help us develop, though most of the things we do are naturally powered since we knew that the downfall of humans was some of the technology as well as unplotted warfare.

Though now we are still living with our family friend Michael there was a recent notice that I had been called for to go into the academy my dad used to go to before he went off on his journeys.

Of course as soon as I realized it I went off and took the chance, maybe I could find more out about what happened to my dad.

So I said goodbye to my family and Michael and headed off to where I was meant to go, which turned out to be pretty far north, luckily I was still on the same continent.

I found a large structure build out of slabs of stone and crystal which reflected the light from the sun onto the ground to show numbers which I could suppose was a way to tell time.

Here I was finally getting a little farther in my life...and maybe getting to be like my dad.

I landed in front of the structure hearing my footclaws click and clatter against the solid stone walkway.

I looked up at the sign and in engraved letters it spelt:

Academy of Infinite Dragon Knowledge.

"Finally here" I said quietly to myself looking around at the environment around me.

The area seemed empty but not devoid of life there were many plants surrounding the building and small creatures that were often hunted for meat.

I noticed a shimmer from the side of the building and looked to my right where the time was being reflected onto the ground.

It was about 10 am as what I figured from the reflection, I had gotten here pretty early; I guess it would just make things easier if I got lost since I had a little more time.

I walked towards the building and grabbed the handle of the door, but as soon as I did the door swung open forcing me to move back quickly lest I be hit by the metal in the door.

"I'll see you later slow poke!" a small grey scaled dragon ran past me and down the walk way, he must have been yelling at someone inside.

I walked back closer to the door and opened it only to smack into a big and sturdy wall of muscle than made me flinch for a moment before I regained my senses.

"Oh shoot sorry about that" I felt a hand grab my shoulder "are you ok?"

I looked up to see a very big and impressively built red scaled dragon about a head taller than me holding me steady.

"yea, I'm fine" I nodded even though I was sort of terrified I had never seen any dragon who was that big not even my dad was like that.

He then looked at me strangely and took a little sniff.

"You seem familiar...but I don't think I've ever seen you before" his head jumped up for a moment as if he figured something out. "Oh wait, your uhhh...your what's the name ....uhhh...Xavier! Xavier that it, right?"

How did he know that?

I quickly nodded and started to fear for my life so I took a step back

"now I know why your familiar, your one of Mr. Eiron's sons, he used to be my mentor in this place" he smiled at me "but I don't see your dad around anymore...he was a really great dragon, but you knew that, he used to tell everyone in the groups we were in about his family especially you, he always seemed to have infinite stories about you"

I was slightly taken aback by how he knew me and my father but I no longer felt threatened, maybe I could ask him for a little help.

He stopped talking for a moment and I asked then.

"Hey uhh...do you think you could help me find my way to the assessment room? I'm supposed to be meeting there at noon."

He smiled and patted my back which almost made me stumble over.

"sure thing we can head there right now" he held out his hand and looked at me in the eyes "my name's Isaac by the way but you can call me Izzy" he slightly stuck his tongue out at me.

I wonder why he was acting sort of childish, but it wouldn't matter much there was no point in doubting his hospitality.

"Thanks...Izzy...you can call me Xee if you want..." I said quietly shaking his hand

"Xee huh? Sounds like a good nickname, I like it" he grabbed onto my arm and pulled me along through the corridors of the building which only seemed to have a few rooms in it but very spacious, maybe it was meant for Dragons like Izzy here.

Within a few moments of me being pulled around we had reached a large door with a sign that said assessment room on it.

"looks like your going to be put into your place here, but I'd better go they don't allow anyone else in during personal assessments, so hopefully I'll see you around Xee" he waved to me and walked down a passage where he quickly was out of my sight.

I sighed as I realized I was dragged here to early and I had to wait another few minutes before my appointed time.

I sat by the door and waited, I didn't think I'd talk with anyone else that I didn't know until I had gotten through what ever they had called me here for, I wasn't used to other dragons I usually just kept to myself and if I needed to talk I usually talked with my siblings or Michael the only other time I've ever really talked with others was when we had to go to the elders and learn.

It was like forced socialization, but I guess it wasn't all bad I did have fun playing with some of the other dragons.

Then I sensed something heading right for me, I quickly put up my hand and blocked it.

"Ah good reflexes, just like your father" I heard a deep voice hovering over me "you'll do pretty well here I can tell"

I looked up to see a tall and much older looking dragon with spotless turquoise scales he looked like he could be in his early 200's.

I seemed to have blocked his tail from hitting me, though it's strange how I didn't notice his form being there earlier.

"Now come on boy, your assessment starts now but I can see there isn't much of a need for it." He pulled open the door and I stood up to walk in with him.

The room was wide spread only having a large table in the center and seats placed around the room, it was dimly lit but enough to see decently just not as well as the rest of the building was lit.

"so...Xavier Eiron ... I have looked through your profile" he started speaking "and I can tell you're probably not going to be a scholar...and you don't seem to be the kind for muscle..."

Why was this guy telling me about me? ... And since when did I have a profile?

"You seem like the kind of dragon who could take on the role of exploration and diplomatic associate like your old man" the other dragon sat down on a chair at the far end of the table "so what do you say Xavier?"

I was kind of confused at this point but I just kept a level head and spoke.

"uhhh...do you mind telling me who you are and what you called me here for? I know it had something to do with my dad but what are you saying I'm here for?" I asked

he chuckled quietly "are you kidding..." he looked at me and then stopped laughing after noticing I wasn't so thrilled as he was "hmmm...so you have no idea why you're here?" he said and then I nodded.

He sighed "take a seat, I have some good news and some bad news to tell you"

I sat in a nearby seat and looked at him only assuming something had happened to my father.

"You should know this by now but I'll say this anyway I am the current second in command at this academy so for now I have to watch out for the school" he took a breath

"Although the good news is, we're pretty sure your father is still alive...but the bad news is that we think he's decided not to come back"

I already figured he was alive; he's not the one to just go dying out in the wilderness.

"Why would he not come back? Where has he been?" I asked

"we aren't sure...he's been out of contact with the academy since his last assignment, all we can assume is that he's still in the last place we sent him, but we don't have anyone else who's willing to go up there without one of his family members, and that's where you come in"

"You'd know I'd do what ever it takes to find my dad"

A smile coursed its way across his face.

"Good good, then we won't have any need to assess you, you'll begin training at the institute immediately" he grabbed a few sheets of paper from the table and walked over to hand them to me.

"I'll be pairing you with some of our best, we are determined to get your father back here" I took the pages and he stood me up "now get out of here and find your dorm and training partners they will be your group responsible for you and your travels" he practically threw me out the door.

Well that was confusing...he didn't even fully introduce himself, but he was someone in the school authority otherwise he wouldn't have told me all that and then sent me off to find my place to stay.

Though now I was a little scared, what if I didn't like my training partners? What if I wasn't very good during training? What if I can't find my dad? ...no I have to stop thinking like that, I should do what my dad would have done stay calm and take things as they come.

Maybe I'll like my training partners...and I'm going to find my dad...just keep moving.

I shuffled through the papers that I was given and I found that the dorm was only a few hallways down and all I had to do was take a staircase up, strangely simple enough instructions.

So I headed down the hallways making sure I read any directional signs and places that marked areas as not to get lost.

I turned the corner to head down the next hall when I almost tripped over someone's tail

"Watch where you're going klutz" a rather upset sounding person stomped by.

He looked like a dragon but he was a little strange he had no wings or horns he just seemed like some green scaly oddity, but I guess I wasn't one to say anything, I haven't seen many other dragons only a few and they all came in different forms to maybe he was just a little different than the rest.

As he left on his own way I continued towards the dorm I followed the path and headed up the stairs to another hallway just this one had 4 doors in it with numbers on them.

I looked back at the paper but it never really showed a number.

Did I have to really go to every door and check?

But then I felt a strong pair of arms wrapping around my torso.

"Hello again" I've heard this voice before.

"Izzy?" he let me go and I turned to look at him.

"It looks like we meet up again, are you done your assessment already?"

I nodded and showed him the papers "yea...but I'm having a little trouble finding out where to go"

He grabbed the papers and started to look at them, after a few seconds of looking he lunged at me and lifted me up over his shoulder laughing.

"Hey what are you doing?" I yelled out at him starting to panic having no idea what was going on.

He opened a door and went inside taking me with him.

"Welcome to your new home Xee" he set me down on the floor "it looks like we're in the same dorm, and I'm sure Lily will love to meet you"

I was kind of excited being put in a place with someone I had met earlier but who was Lily?

"Izzy, who is Lily?" I asked him

"She's your other training partner that lives here to" he grabbed hold of me and hugged me tightly.

I really wasn't used to such physical contact with anyone other than family, I was wondering why he was so strange...is everyone like him?

"Please put me down" I said calmly.

"So you can run away? Not a chance" he giggled.

"Come on please" I tried struggling.

"Alright fine..." he let go of his grip and let me step away.

I took a few breaths just to recover before speaking.

"Could you not do that again" I said slightly panting.

"You don't like hugs? ...or is it just me..." he made a sad face.

"It's not that..." I started "...I'm just not use to you yet..."

He made an even bigger frown that started to make me feel bad as his ears drooped to.

"Ok...I won't hug you anymore..." he put his head down a little; maybe I said something that hurt his feelings.

"Well your allowed to hug me" I saw his face start to cheer up "but just warn me first alright?" I told him

"Ok I'm going to hug you right now" he grabbed me again and lifted my whole body as he hugged me.

I guess I can make someone here a little cheerful, that's always a good thing.

"Big, affectionate and sweet, that's Izzy for you" I heard a voice as the door closed "but he's also big lunk head"

I looked over Izzy's shoulder to see a beautiful dragoness; her sapphire scales perfectly reflected the light giving her almost an aura like glow.

Her body was slim but you could tell she was toned; she had a mane of silver and black flowing along the back of her neck.

An amazing sight to see I could only suppose she was Lily.

"Now put him down big guy" she patted Izzy's back and Izzy released me back onto the ground.

I tried to put on a smile only to notice I was slightly blushing to.

"So who're you newbie" she grabbed under my muzzle making sure I was looking into her eyes and not her chest which was definably a place of interest.

"I'm...I'm" I was slightly stuttering I wasn't used to being around such a beautiful person before.

"He's Mr. Eiron's son, well one of them anyways" Izzy spoke up for me, I was grateful for that I probably would have made a fool of myself.

"oh no way" she let go of my face and started to pace around me and examine me, she felt my scales sending a slight shiver down my spine and she looked at my wing and stopped. "He's Xavier...his kid with the wing symbol, that's amazing I always wanted to see one of these up close" she felt along the pattern on my wing.

I smiled, I was getting quite a lot of the attention from her yet I hadn't even spoken to many words so far.

"Hey hey hey, don't stress the kid to much, he just got here" Izzy sounded a little agitated shooing Lily away from my wing. "You should at least tell him your name before you go poking at his wings"

Lily slightly growled at him which kind of scared me "...fine then" she stood strait and calmed herself as she extended her arm "I'm Lily, Lily Duckiez" she grabbed my hand and shook it.

Izzy started cracking up behind me before bursting out into laughter.

She growled again and jumped at him and started smacking him on the head with a folded paper that was in her hand "you lunkhead stop laughing at me"

I was just standing there watching Izzy just take the hits like he couldn't feel them and keep on laughing, though I didn't really get the joke.

As they were conflicting with each other I took the chance to look around the room, it wasn't really a big room but there were 3 doors on separate walls and in the middle was a living room with a cooking area set off into the corner, I could probably guess that one of the few doors led to my room but I couldn't be sure until I was told other wise.

I heard the noise calm down as I looked back at them with Izzy holding Lily up a little bit off the ground by holding the paper...he really is strong...and she must have a killer grip to be holding on so tightly.

"Do you guys always fight like that?" I asked looking at them

"Oh sure all the time" Izzy giggled and let go of Lily's paper. "We've been training partners for a while so this is our normal" he said rubbing his hand into Lily's mane seemingly messing it up a little.

She growled at him again and smacked his hand away "well you're just lucky you're so big or I'd be winning most of these fights" she walked away and went into one of the rooms.

"What was all that about?" I asked.

"It's her normal thing she'll be back later after she's done with her research project" Izzy explained.

"...are we going to end up fighting...?" I said quietly

"hmmm" he got closer to me and touched my shoulder "you know I'm going to also be your physical instructor, so me and you will have to fight, but I won't try and hurt you, your in training remember...but Lily is harmless she's going to be teaching you more about the places we have to go visit." Izzy told me.

So these guys were both my teachers and my roommates...so I guess this means I'll be spending a lot more time with them.

"Are you feeling ok?" he asked

"Yea...a little overwhelmed but mostly just tired now" I answered.

"I think you should get some rest, I know it's still early but your full training starts tomorrow and as soon as it does your butt belongs to me and Lily for the next 8 months" he stuck his tongue out at me and smiled before showing me towards a room.

"8 month!?" I said in shock.

"What? You expected training to be 2 weeks, it's a dangerous world out there and you're going to need to get all the training you can get."

"Crap..." I was just looking forward to finding my dad soon but it looks like it's going to be a while, hopefully he'll wait up that long so I can find him.

But what did he mean my butt belonged to them...how rigorous was this training going to be, other than home and here there wasn't much I knew about the world other than old stories my dad told me...

What was really out there?

What ever there was I'd go through all of those dangerous things to find my father again...

But as long as I'm here...I should at least get to know my new friends and instructors better.
