#File 1 - "Uncertain"

"U.S.S. Warrior... This is Earth Spacedock, you are cleared for docking in Docking Bay One" repeated the voice on the communications system. It was a sight for sore eyes.

The Warrior Class, U.S.S. Warrior had been extremely successful for its first year in space. It had successful dealt with a situation that threatened the entire Federation and made a successful first contact with an ancient race which had been thought long dead by many in the xenobiological circles.

The Warrior however had suffered heavy damage, there were various marks on the hull that glistened like bruises in the light of Sol. Some had widened to form large "holes" in the ship which were being held together by emergency forcefields as the crew worked to repair most of the damage.

There was a notable trepidation in the air as the Warrior entered the massive Ournal Class starbase, the black stars replaced by the many lights and slightly blue interior of the huge starbase. Many in the lounge watching with awe as the huge grey metal hull of the ship anchored itself to the starbase.

On the bridge of the Warrior, Captain Greyfell sat in his chair. He was a rather unusual species, his genus and evolutionary line resembling that of a more evolved form of Equine life on Earth. His species was known as Argussian, and they had been refugees from the Delta Quadrant, who were fleeing the destruction of the their homeworld by the Fen Domar.

The Argussians had relocated to the planet Veridian III with the blessing of the Federation Council and became a protectorate of the Federation. However, the fragile peace was shattered when the Fen Domar led a crusade against Veridian III and destroyed the Argussian colony there with only a handful of people surviving. Alexander was only an infant when this happened and was taken to Earth where he was raised in England by a loving foster family until he was old enough to join Starfleet.

"Captain, we have secured all moorings...." said Commander Shon Tempest, Alexander's loyal and somewhat stoic and serious First Officer. He sat down in the chair beside the Captain and looked over the armrest of the chair, tapping a few buttons on it.

"Good" sighed Captain Greyfell as he looked around the bridge. His crew looked tired and somewhat lukewarm to their homecoming. The mission the Warrior had just been on had been long and difficult and although somewhat successful, there were still many unanswered questions.

"I'll just be glad to get back to Earth." remarked Doctor Kieran Braveheart, standing behind them. Normally he would be busy with his duties in sickbay but this time he wanted to come up to the Bridge and watch the ship dock. He had said before that it felt like the end of an era. "Shore leave is looking pretty good from here."

"What makes you think you are getting shore leave?" remarked Captain Greyfell, looking back at the rather surprised expression on the Doctor's dumbfounded face. "Relax Doctor." he said finally. "I've already cleared an extended shore leave with Starfleet, I wouldn't worry..."

Doctor Braveheart's expression, for a small man with brown hair went from the edge of a tirade to a somewhat expressive sigh of relief.

"Captain..." remarked Commander Tempest, looking over at him like a schoolteacher would reprimand a pupil. "I do not believe it is healthy to play with the crew's emotions in that matter."

Greyfell sighed, it was like having a token Vulcan onboard... Scratch that.... Commander Tempest was worse than a Vulcan.

"Number One..." he said, looking over at Counselor Mewsin who was smirking and shaking her head from a direction that Commander Tempest could not see. "Just dock the ship..." he said, leaning back in his chair.

"I've never actually been to Earth before..." remarked Lieutenant Command Muraco, who was busy tapping controls on his Engineering panel. He was a large, hulking purple creature who looked like he could break the spine of a dozen Klingons with one crush.

"...Eh... Once you've seen one M Class planet... you've seen them all" remarked Doctor Nova Storm from the console on the other side of the Bridge, one that perfectly fit on the railing of the Warrior's Bridge. "I has rather unremarkable biomes and animal life."

"By your standards... yes." replied Doctor Braveheart, suddenly very aware that he was the only human actually on the bridge. "But I tend to think of Earth as a safe harbour from the chaos of the rest of the Galaxy."

"I suppose it is... nice" replied Doctor Storm, looking over his latest astrological survey reports and putting them in chronological order to give to Starfleet when they arrived.

"I'll just be glad to visit my parents..." remarked Greyfell but he gave a small internal shudder when he thought about his mother, constantly asking him if he was eating right and saying that replicated food was bad for him. She was a very overbearing woman but he was still looking forward to seeing her and being home. "Plymouth will probably be very cold at this time of year."

Commander Tempest sighed at all the casual Bridge chatter and continued to work on his command console. "Captain, all moorings have been secured and umbilicals are in place. We may begin offloading personnel."

"Very good Number One..." he said. "Commander Muraco. Begin uploading our mission logs to Starfleet Command. I will be in my Ready Room... collecting a few momentos." he said, wanting to get an early start on packing now that the ship was secure.

"Captain..?" came the soft voice of his counselor. The Warrior Class starship was small enough to not require a Counselor position but Captain Greyfell had requested Counselor Mewsin to join the crew due to her extremely useful Betazoid empathic abilities which had been extremely crucial to this mission.

"Yes Mewsin?"

"We are going to be assigned back to this vessel, arn't we?"

Captain Greyfell looked at her, giving a slight detracted glare as he was unable to answer the question at this time. He was unsure if Command would choose to keep the crew together or not.

"I don't... know" he responded honestly, turning to walking into his Ready Room, leaving the crew in a stunned silence. Everyone assumed that their assignments to the Warrior would continue, especially with the success of their mission but they had also forgotten that Captain Greyfell had broken several Starfleet directives in order to get the mission done and would probably face a general court martial due to his actions.

The casual chatter on the bridge was shattered and the realisation began to sink in slowly.

Maybe they were not coming back?
