James paced around a pedestal staring at a little ball. Under it was a plaque that said, 'Planet Seed.' It was supposedly able to collect asteroids and form a whole new planet, and if it was in a Goldilocks zone, it could support life. It could even be programmed to form a certain type of environment with certain types of inhabitants. Naturally, such a thing would be quite expensive.

He had 2,000 credits available, just enough for one. But, he was also saving for a starship. He shrugged, went to the scientist who was managing the lab and handed over his device called a credit counter. He had decided that he could use the seed to do something nice for Tsuki, Takeo and his family.

"Two grand, right," he asked.

The Dracosith overseeing the seed looked at him and said, "For a planet seed, yeah. You won't believe all the billionaires that want their own planet."

"With how they were on earth," James replied, "I wouldn't put it past them. By the way, do you know how this counter do-hickey works?"

The device had a screen with a number, a record of his credits, and a plug reminiscent of the flash drives of his teenage years. On the side was a knob, for directing payment either to the owner or a cashier. "I'm still trying to figure it out."

The Dracosith shrugged leaving James to figure it out on his own. Eventually, he found a slot in the register and made to stick his counter in there. After he herd a click, he turned the knob towards the register, and the number on his counter started to drop. "So, that's how it works."

Once the number on the counter hit zero, James removed it from the register and took a seed. He nodded to the cashier and backed towards the door. Once out the door, he spun around and marched by the shops and training facilities of the fort. Dracosith around him wandered the area about their own business. Finally, he stopped at a certain bunk house and opened the door. "Hey, Emmy," he whispered, "I just bought something."

"What is it?"

He opened his fist to reveal the white ball. "Planet seed."

"Wow!"

"I was planning to use it for a little something for our roommates."

"Ah yes!"

While they spoke, Haru opened the door and came in. That was when James closed his fist and stuck the seed in his pocket. He turned to Haru and said, "Oh, hi."

"Konichiwa. What was that?"

"Nothing."

"I seen it already. I no sni-"

He felt something on his leg and looked down at a young human. A boy. "Where you mommy at?"

James pointed and asked, "Who is that?"

"You think I know, a boy."

"A human?"

"Hai."

"Alright, so I bought a planet seed," James said before opening his fist. "Oh!"

After speaking, Haru looked at the boy and said, "Wait, you Hiro. I met you mother."

"Hai."

James sat on one of the beds and set down the seed. "You mother brought me Mochi," said Haru. "Tell her she great at it. Haven't had it in long time. You want meet my sister Hisa?"

"Hai."

"Hey Haru," said James, "when you're done with that, can you tell me some things about Japan?"

"Oh Hai!"

After Haru left, James looked at Emily and asked, "By the way Emmy, did anyone else come around while I was gone?"

"I don't think so, just some chick that Haru was trying to do."

"Did she say anything?"

"No. She just got on the cot with Haru and I got Hisa And me out."

James took in a deep breath and, in a high pitched voice, said, "Creepayy!"

Haru tugged his collar and said, "I wasn't just getting Mochi from Hiro's mom."

"Wait, what?"

James raised his arms and said, "You know what, I don't wanna know."

"Hai, don't. It was my only time with woman, and last. She got her you know what on me."

"Okay, okay, point proven. So, follow up question, what is mochi?"

James put his hands over his hips abd raised an eyebrow. "A sweet rice cake flavored with chocolate, strawberries, red beans, matcha, or other fruits."

"Ah."

"Also, Hiro's father can't find out what I did with his wife."

"Right. So, what can you tell me about old Japan?"

"Well it's multiple islands started do to volcanic activity in the Pacific ocean. Most of the people have at least a tenth or less Chinese in them. Its been through more than a 100 dynasties, and constantly warring between clans. Its society ranking is literally messed up."

"What about the culture?"

"Well it didn't change over a thousand years, except ideals."

What followed was an hour of a speech about old Japan. Throughout his speech, James tried to stay awake. Finally, James said, "Very interesting. Say, how do you think this seed works?"

"Blows up?"

"I uh, don't honestly see that working for making planets."

"Oh! Than I do not know."

"Emmy?"

"Yes?"

"Do you know how these planet seeds work?"

"Not really."

"I hear that they collect asteroids and use them to make planets."

"Oh! Really?"

"That's what I heard. By the way, it costed two grand."

"What!?!"

"Two thousand credits."

"How? Why?"

"It just wasn't cheap."

"Hai, but didn't you need a ship?"

"We could borrow a naval one until then."

James lifted the seed and muttered, "Now, how to program this seed..."

"Why spend so much? I never seen that much money."

"You know how big planets can get, right?"

"Uh, no."

"Pretty big."

"Oh. Maybe it not that bad."

"It depends on how many asteroids it eats."

"So more, merrier?"

"Yep."

"Let's find a good belt!"

"Right. But, how could we program it?"

James looked at Emily and asked, "Emmy?"

"Yes?"

"Do you know how to program these seeds?"

"Possibly."

"Could you program this one for having a large Japan type island?"

"Yeah, we can do that. Any other Asian societies? We don't want massive inbreeding."

"China?"

"We can do that too. Huns, possibly a few other countries."

"That should do."

"Okay! What if other civilizations arise?"

"You know, I never thought of that."

"You didn't?"

"No."

"Why not?"

He shrugged only to take a strike to the cheek. He put a hand to his cheek and asked, "What was that for?"

"You should start thinking!"

He sighed, took the seed and handed it to her. "I shall go do what you want!"

With that, she left, and James turned to Haru and asked, "You think you could direct her efforts?"

"Hai I sure I can."

"Good, you remember the place, right?"

"Hai. I don't know all of it, I'm only 13."

On the way out, James looked him in the eye, pointed and stated, "This is our secret."

"Hai. If I no keep it you can cut my pinky off."

"We'll keep it as a surprise until it's ready."

"Hai! And Hisa won't remember a thing. She probably playing with toys."

"Maybe."

"Or asleep, most likely not with the boy."

"Well, I'll be at the lab."

"I see you later than!"

With that, James was left alone, so he went off to the MORPH lab. There, he approached the doctors and asked, "So, what gene is in the highest demand?"

"Awek."

"How many samples are needed?"

"About fifteen."

"And, what can fifteen blood donations at a time do to someone?"

"Make them sick. We can take five vials."

"Then, I'll give five."

The doctor pointed at the gurneys and said, "Sit right down."

James sat on a gurney and rolled up his sleeve as a needle was prepared. Another doctor cleaned his arm with rubbing alcohol and took the needle. He took deep breaths while waiting. He saw a doctor take a tray of five vials and shut his eyes.

Before being injected, he saw the other doctor take his counter and connected it with another. When he saw the amount, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Hang on, two grand?"

He looked up and did math in his head. No matter which way he came up with to reach the amount, it didn't add up. When he looked back, he saw that the number was now fifteen hundred. He did a double take, but brushed it off as a glitch. He took a deep breath and said, "Go ahead."

"Thank you."

"Uh huh."

He watched as a needle slid into his arm, and the doctor taped it on. Once there were five vials of his blood, the needle was pulled from his arm, and the doctor tapped on the tape. James stood up, took a step and stumbled towards another gurney. He saw Takeo, who looked at him and asked, "Uh, you okay?"

"Yeah, just some blood loss is all."

"How bad was it?"

"See for yourself."

"No! I like blood in me, not out! What, am I a woman?"

"Well, I gave five samples."

"Why?"

"They have a demand for fifteen Awek genes, and that'd have been dangerous."

"I can see it being so!"

"Well, we got fifteen hundred more credits now."

"Oh that good!"

"Yeah, there's that."

"I would give dna, but who want live 900 years."

"They might be able to filter."

James looked at the doctors and asked, "Can you filter a nine hundred lifetime gene?"

The doctor shrugged and said, "Possibly."

James looked at Takeo and asked, "You game, Tak?"

"Uh, I guess. I want get Hisa stuff so. Also can I sell my man juices? I make more than enough for trillion infants."

"What do you guys say?"

"Yeah, but we aren't looking for kitsune men!"

"Now if you'll excuse me," said James, "I'm gonna go get a drink."

"I see you in bit!" replied Takeo before James staggered towards the door like a drunk and went outside. He collapsed outside a bar, but before he could pass out, he could feel Takeo kicking him and barking, "Get up!"

He stood up, yet with the way he reacted, it was as if his nerves were dead. "How'd it go, Tak?"

"Great what wrong with you?"

"I think it's the blood loss."

"Hai, you should go lay down!"

"And, I'll need some water."

James stepped away from the door and said, "You know what, I'm going to the bunkhouse."

With Takeo in lead, James hobbled back to the bunkhouse and opened the door. Takeo saw Hisa kissing Hiro's cheek, as well as James* "Woah, okay. Did we interrupt anything?"

"No, Hisa is being weird. Maybe it pass."

James shook his head, weaseled out of Takeo's grip and laid on one of the cots. "My little sisters used kiss my cheek all the time," stated Takeo. "You should know kids are quite curious."

"Imagine two half Aweks and a dragon."

"I would scream!"

"Now, imagine two of them being boys."

"Eh, boys aren't to bad. Girls though...."

"And, the girl was the half durgon."

"Oh gods!"

James shut his eyes and laid on his side. "Don't wake me."

"Why," asked Hisa.

"I lost some blood today."

"Oh, Hai, sorry!"

"No need, this lightheadedness is the only bad thing about it."

"Well I got you food and water!"

"Good."

James closed his eyes and began to nod off. "Eat!" hissed Takeo. When he didn't, the kitsune shoved something in James open mouth. A corner of the sheet snapped out of place as James was pushed towards the other side.

* * * * *

The next time James awoke, he saw Emily and Haru at the bed next to his. "Oh hi."

"Konichiwa!"

"How's the seed coming?"

"Pretty darned good!"

"How much of it is done?"

"About eighty percent."

"Good."

"Yeah, we can start soon!"

"Oh yes. By the way, I think Takeo tried force feeding me."

"Why?"

To Haru's question, James shrugged, and Emily said, "Because not replenishing yourself after blood being taken can be fatal!"

"And, I gave five vials."

"You should've ate and drank!"

He turned to face the other side, where the nightstand was. When he saw the leftovers, he immediately started shoveling food in his mouth and guzzling water. He rolled on his back while eating what he had in his mouth. "Well, at least we're closer to twenty grand."

"Yeah, which is great."

"Yeah. Although, they want ten more samples from an Awek, and guess who the only Awek around is."

"You?"

"Precisely."

James saw that Emily had a vial and asked, "What's that?"

"Something I made."

"What does it consist of?"

"Wolf/awek DNA, and color genes."

"Good."

Without another word, she stuck the needle in her arm. As she did, James took a drink of water and watched as she grew larger, shaggier, and adopted canine features. "Looking good."

Then, her teeth grew to an uncomfortable length and hung over her bottom lip. "What in the-"

Her ears became much less pointed than James', and her legs were stocky and short. James sat up and asked, "What exactly are you becoming?"

"Primitive awek."

"Primitive?"

"How far back did they go?"

James just shrugged, and Emily groaned and stated, "I found the DNA at an Earth dig site, I think they were still breeding with wild wolves."

"When they looked like this?"

"Way, way far back I'm guessing. Cave man times."

"Right."

"Or before because I'm horribly hunched."

"Can you try to stand straight?"

She tried to stand up as straight as she could. He saw her gritting her teeth, raised a hand and said, "Okay, that'll do."

With that, she hunched back over and went on fours. "This must be a hybrid of sorts. Either that or my body is to heavy."

"I'd believe either way. By the way, do you know why they need Awek DNA?"

"I'm not sure. Let me go give some."

"Right, you can ask them while you're there."

"Oh I will.

"While you're there, I'll be here trying to get my blood back."

He pulled his blanket over his nose and finished, "The hard way."

Upon hearing that, Takeo sat up, looked at them and asked, "What?"

"She's going to give blood."

"Okay so? How you getting yours back?"

"Sleep and nourishment."

"Oh. Well I surely not letting people stab me for blood."

"And, you don't have to."

"Hai I know that. Unless they decide try getting me in middle of night!"

"Then, you could deck them."

"Can I slit they throat?"

"Probably not."

"Damn it!"

James shook his head and said, "It wouldn't be worth it."

"Why wouldn't it?"

"A little blood for all blood."

"Eh, yeah."

With that, James shut his eyes and Takeo stood up to leave as James nodded off. The only ones left there were himself and the kids.
