-Prologue-

Flametail awoke with a start, to a paw prodding in his side. Leafpelt, his younger sibling was stooping over him.

"You awake bro?" she meowed quietly.

"I am now!" he replied, irritably, and got to his paws," what do you want?"

"Well, I was just bored." She meowed, looking down, "so I-"

"So you woke me up!" Flametail growled, obviously upset.

"No!" She meowed, Quickly, "I just wanted to see if you were awake."

"Ugh," Flametail groaned and fell back into his nest," I'm going back to sleep."

Chapter 1 - Midnight Chaos

* * *

Flametail awoke again to the smell of fresh-kill. Leafpelt was digging into a mouse she found, as he got to his paws.

"Grab any for me?" he meowed, hungrily

"Yeah!" she replied tossing him a mouse. It smells great, he thought, taking a bite, the sun was halfway up the sky when he finished his mouse

"We should get going," Flametail meowed, "If we want to make good time, he gathered his paws beneath him and glanced out

"Fine." Leafpelt replied, getting to her paws.

"Oh, well you could stay here." He meowed, teasingly, glancing back.

"Like you'd last a day without your little healer." She replied mockingly, I'm one of a kind.

"I was just kidding," He meowed, leaping away from her slashing claws, "I'd never leave my sis behind!" Flametail padded out from under the bush they had used for a shelter.

"Come on." He called over his shoulder, "We're losing daylight." He took the lead as she pushed out after him, then snatching a glance at the sun.

The sun sets in the Ring of Fire so we're going the right way!" He meowed enthusiastically as they padded into the forest.

The breeze flowing through the trees felt amazing in his fur and the sun speckled through the leaves casting the forest in a beautiful glow.

"Its so pretty," Leafpelt meowed, half to herself, "isn't it?"

"What?" Flametail meowed, stopping to glance at her quizzically.

"Everything," She replied, impatiently, stopping to direct his attention to a patch of colorful flowers, "Like that, no one put it there it just grew!" "Sure," Flametail meowed, his reply full of amusement, as he padded off into the trees, "We should get moving, we don't have time to stand around looking at pretty flowers."

"Ugh, She replied, "your such a tom!" before dashing after him.

"Doesn't this, like, happen every generation," She meowed, impatiently, "What's the rush?"

"The rush is," Flametail meowed, glancing back at her, "It's to soon, Somethings wrong." He spun around and padding away.

"Yea," Leafpelt replied, bounding after him, "but what?" So stubborn she thought as she followed him back under the tree cover.

Flametail couldn't stop thinking about the "what."

Why have they called us so soon he wondered silently. He was so lost in thought that he didn't see the rock until he was tumbling forward from tripping on it. "Oof," he meowed in pain as he slammed into a tree, "that really hurt!"

"Ha Ha, that was so funny." Leafpelt meowed in amusement.

"Yea, sure," He meowed as he stumbled to his paws, "for you it was."

"Exactly," she replied, playfully, "its half way to sundown. Can we please do something besides walk." She looked up and said, "at the very least we need to hunt and dress that wound."

"Fine!" Flametail meowed in defeat, "you go hunt and I'll find some moss for bedding."

"Sure." She replied enthusiastically before leaping away into the forest. Flametail padded off opposite the direction she took, keeping an eye out for moss.

Flametail laid down the last strip of moss as Leafpelt emerged from the forest with some mice, a vole, and a rabbit. She grabbed a mouse and sat down to eat as Flametail grabbed the vole and settled down beside her. "Hmm," he thought as he dug in, "delicious." He finished a little bit after Leafpelt and settled down to groom his wound, just as Leafpelt finished making a mixture of herbs for his wound.

"Here," she meowed, putting the solution on Flametail's paw, and he soon fell asleep to the cool burning sensation on his paw.
