#3 of Shadows on The ICE

Chapter 4 - mysterious encounter

Feriyaki awoke to Ginatra getting to his paws and followed him out to get something to eat.

They'd eaten and began to make their way towards the copse of trees once again before the sun had even come up. Feriyaki was happy to be leaving the ridge, and the risk of falling, behind, but being so close to the spirits like he was, Feriyaki was also reluctant to go to the trees he could feel something there, something powerful but he wasn't sure whether it was a good or evil power. He watched Ginatra as they made their way down the ridge, if he sensed the darkness, he made no move to show it, either he didn't care or was oblivious. Finally, flat ground Feriyaki thought, can't fall off if there's no cliff. His dreams may be filled with a fall, but he was on solid ground in the waking world.

"So, what are journeying towards?" Feriyaki Questioned

"I'm searching for my family," Ginatra replied, "I was separated by a raven it attacked me and Broke the ice I was standing on, and I woke up on the shore of the forest we first clashed in."

"Oh, sounds heart breaking," Feriyaki teased, halfheartedly, "but honestly sounds bad."

"Its fine I'll find them," Ginatra replied, "I'm fairly confident." He padded off towards the forest in the distance once again.

"Good, hope is a good thing to hold on to you wouldn't want to lose it." Feriyaki barked.

"You talk about it as if it's a thing I could lose." Ginatra replied.

"It is." Feriyaki meowed as the trees, he noticed had grown surprisingly closer, we're almost there, he thought excitedly. "You never want to lose hope, its not a loss that you can cope with." The Ice they'd been walking on for so long slowly became land as the copse of trees in the distance grew less distant. "never mind," Feriyaki barked, "we're almost there!"

"Come on, then!" Ginatra growled, Dashing towards the trees, in full sprint. Feriyaki followed close behind, doing his best to keep up when suddenly he tripped, rolling and rolling. He finally stopped coming face to face with the long dark beak of a raven, Caark! It squawked in alarm, spreading its wings in an attempt to fly away only to be slammed back on the ground again, a tendril was tied to one of his thin spindly legs, the other end was tied to a tree root.

"Ah, company." The raven trilled in a dark voice.

"Not for you," Ginatra growled a hostile reply, "I, don't like ravens." He then moved on into the forest, not even stopping to wait for Feriyaki.

"Please, at least cut me free." The raven crowed in a very compelling voice, looking, with black beady eyes, into Feriyaki's.

"O-k." Feriyaki stammered, and lifted a paw, claws glinted, then swipe, he was free. The raven instantly lifted off, and landed on Feriyaki's shoulder. Feriyaki suddenly shook his head as if he was shaking away a thought, "hey how'd you get on my shoulder?" He Barked.

"I flew." The raven replied, as if he hadn't been tied to a tree moments before. "My name is Cawrath, And I can sense power in you fox, undoubtedly you sense it in me as well." He suddenly glanced up, then seeming satisfied that there wasn't anything there began to pace along Feriyaki's back "I need you to trust me, and fast." Then, suddenly the bird blunged his beak into the back of Feriyaki's neck.

"Ah!" Feriyaki gasped before collapsing, and falling to blackness.

Chapter - 5 Raven Dreams

Feriyaki dreamed he was flying over an expanse of ice covered in shambling shadowy figures, he suddenly realized he new what they were, Shadowalkers. Then the scene changed he was sitting on the shoulder of a women, when suddenly she was attacked, Feriyaki took to the sky landing on a branch to watch. The women didn't survive, "Witch!" The men cried "Witch" They dragged her away half dead, her last words were "find him." Although those words seemed vague as he flew away, Feriyaki knew what they meant, find the bear prophesied to save the Ice. His scene changed again, this time he was diving towards a bear cub cowering on a jutting ice floe, he used his claws to sever the connection between the floe and the rest of the ice. There was nothing the bear could do as it floated out to sea. His scenery changed once again this time Feriyaki was landing in a forest when suddenly a shadowy, cloud like hand wrapped around his beak and Feriyaki began to drown in the darkness.

Feriyaki awoke to find Cawrath asleep on his back, not sure what happened, he shook his shoulders and the raven aroused,

"I faintly remember you stabbing your beak into my neck." Feriyaki growled, showing slight hostility,

"I didn't, I stabbed it in to your pneuma." Cawrath squawked a reply

"What?" Feriyaki replied, Cawrath didn't respond, "Never mind, those dreams I had, did you cause them, were they real?"

"yes." Cawrath replied calmly. "Now we must move, catch up with the bear, its time fox."

"Feriyaki."

"What!"

"My name," Feriyaki replied, "Is Feriyaki." Then he padded into the forest once more, while Cawrath took to the sky and searched for the "Bear" by air and, Feriyaki, searched for Ginatra by land.

* * *

Feriyaki suddenly came across Ginatra, devouring a mouse, sitting below a tree.

"Hey," Feriyaki barked, "you left me behind." He padded over to Ginatra and gave him a stare.

"I don't like ravens," Ginatra grunted looking up, squinting in a way only a bear could, "anyways, we needed to get moving." Suddenly, Cawrath landed on Feriyaki's shoulder,

"Found him." Feriyaki barked at him.

"I see," Cawrath replied, glancing at Ginatra, "We need to talk bear."

"No." Ginatra Growled, before he got up and began to pad away.

"I can help you." Cawrath trilled, swiveling his head to stare after Ginatra.

"With what?" He replied, stopping to squint at the raven, "What could you possible help me with.

"I separated you from your family, I can reunite you with them as well." Cawrath Squawked, I just need a small favor.

"What!" Ginatra growled, "What favor?" He then began to pad back to the raven, who was pacing along Feriyaki's back.

"I only need you to complete your destiny." Cawrath replied, Forebodingly.

Ginatra was shocked to discover that this raven was the same raven who separated him from his family, but in order to get back to them he decided to go along with it's plan.

"Fine," He growled, "what do I need to do?" He squinted menacingly at the raven who'd stopped pacing suddenly, and was staring into the trees.

"We need to move, Now!" The Cawrath Squawked in alarm, Snapping his attention back to the bear.

"My names Ginatra." He replied before bounding into the forest, as Cawrath took to the sky's and Feriyaki Dashed after Ginatra.

Cawrath skimmed the trees above the two lumbering animals below him, Following Ginatra in the lead, he could see the dark shapes fliting in and out between the trees below. Maybe they'd get away, he thought lowering his flight to get a better look, Cawrath noticed a pendant up ahead. I know that pendant, he thought swooping low to snatch it of the ground, yes he thought. He then swooped down to Feriyaki and Ginatra who'd stopped, and where unknowingly being surrounded.

Ginatra stopped below a large oak and sat down, panting.

"We should be safe now." He grunted, when suddenly a dark shape leaped out of the bushes just as Cawrath swooped down and dropped the pendant on the ground. The pendent shattered on contact releasing a wind of light that wiped out all the Shadows surrounding them.

"Now we're safe." Cawrath trilled in annoyance, "I only have one of those so we should keep moving." He then perched on Feriyaki's shoulder once more, as they set off, in a slower pace, into the forest.

The sun was setting when they reached the edge of the forest,
