#3 of Fan Fiction

One of three pieces written for my mate as a gift. This one is a crossover between Road Rovers and Bolt.

Bolt's hero days were over, if what he'd had in the last five years counted as heroic. He'd lived through the past five years as a superhero, foiling the plots of the nefarious Doctor Calico with his super bark, laser vision, and other powers, aided by his human, Penny. But a shipping error, a cross-country journey, and an all too real fire had both shown him how phony his former life was and forced him to be even more heroic without any powers to help. The danger had let him and Penny out of their studio contracts, so that they could live out normal lives in the countryside. Bolt was content to finally know the truth: that, except for Penny and his family, everything about his former life had been staged, and he'd never again have to worry about supervillains with dastardly schemes trying to take over the world. Or so he thought.

One afternoon, snoozing in his dog house, a bright light shone on Bolt from above, and a gentle voice called to him, "Bolt. You have been chosen." Naturally, Bolt was alarmed by this new trick, but the light calmed him and told him where to go, so he followed it. Eventually, he found himself in an underground laboratory, facing a tall, round chamber. "Enter the Transdogmafier. All will be explained." He cautiously sniffed at the device, then walked into it. The doors closed, the lights flashed, and he stepped out completely changed. His dog body was gone, replaced by a tight, muscular humanoid form in a metallic jumpsuit, with his tail sticking out of the back. Only his head the same as it has always been, still his and still a dog. A Cano-Sapien, to be more accurate, but he had no way of knowing that just yet.

"Welcome to the pack, Bolt. Sorry to interrupt your retirement, but we need your skills now more than ever."

Bolt turned in surprise at the voice, the same as the one which called him. Standing before him in shadow was a human figure with glowing white eyes and long, unkempt hair. Its outline appeared to be smiling at him, which the skeptical canid did not know how to interpret.

"Hold on a minute, here. Where am I? Who are you? What did you do to me?"

"You can call me Master, for now. And my Transdogmafier just gave you the powers you always thought you had."

"Wait... you can understand me? Humans never understood what I said before... and why do I feel taller?"

"Hehe... see for yourself."

A panel opened on the side of the Transdogmafier, and Bolt saw his new body for the first time. He gasped in alarm, then began to see that it really was him. His new form started to grow on him, and he quickly tested it out with some karate chops in the air. Even after months without practice, he hadn't lost his touch, and he felt like this new body could knock out a bad guy or two with these.

"That's isn't all. I've also added in something special, just for you. Try out your superbark on that wall over there."

Bolt would never have thought this would work, but then he never would have thought he'd have this new body either. He braced his legs, clenched his new fists, and let out a powerful bark. The shockwave from it flew through the air, transparent but still visible, and slammed into the opposing wall, shattering it like glass. On the other side, another muscular dog man with chocolate brown fur was scrubbing his back with a brush and whistling a tune. It took him a second to realize he was missing from a wall, but when he did, he gave Bolt a frightened look, shrieked like a girl, and ran to the side and out the door.

"Oops... sorry."

"It's fine. Blitz hogs the shower, anyway."

"Blitz... there are others like me?"

"Of course. Are you ready to meet them?"

"Absolutely."

"Good. They've been waiting all day. Alright, Rovers, he's ready!"

The rest of the team bounded out eagerly to greet their guest. After dogpiling onto him all at once and being scolded by the Master, they introduced themselves one at a time, starting with the Doberman from the shower.

"So, you're the new guy. I'm Blitz. That last trick of yours was free; do it again, and I'll bite you on the tushie!"

"Blitz! Don't be a weird boy!"

A blue and white Husky pushed Blitz aside and into a pile of rubble, stars now orbiting his head.

"I am Exile, and I am much excited to be meeting you. I have seen your exploits on the tubes. You are famous, yes?"

"Oh, well, yes, but the show wasn't..."

Before he could finish explaining, he was picked up in a bear hug by a giant, shaggy sheepdog, who licked his head with a slobbery tongue, and hugged him so tightly that it was hard to breathe.

"Do not mind Shag, he is just happy to see you. Never met star before."

"Shag! No! Bad boy! Go lie down!"

The gentle giant whimpered, gently put Bolt back on his feet, and scurried away as a long-haired collie sauntered forward confidently, very obviously female from the swaying of her hips and the bumps on her chest.

"Colleen. A bloomin' pleasure to meet you, love. Welcome to the team."

The last to greet him, a golden retriever mix, had a playful glint in his eye as he took Bolt by the hand and shook it vigorously.

"Finally, another Hollywood hero. My name's Hunter, and I've been a fan of yours since I was a pup. Maybe you can teach me some moves later."

He wanted to shout, tell everyone that he was a fraud, not a hero. But the hope in everyone's eyes was so heartwarming to him, and he didn't want to let them down.

"I don't know... this is all so new to me. I... I'm not used to this new body yet."

"Hmm... OK! We'll teach you some tricks then. You're not that old, right?"

Before Bolt could even register what Hunter had said, much less take offense, the Master interjected.

"That's enough introductions, Rovers. I'm sure Bolt feels more than welcome. But you have a mission to do."

The group (except Bolt) groaned in unison as the Master continued to explain. General Parvo, inspired by Doctor Calico's world domination scheme on Bolt's show -- and because his own plans had been foiled every time -- had built an underground base in the Arctic, and was planning to melt the polar ice caps with a giant laser, thereby taking over the world. Bolt was to act as their guide on the mission, since the base was an exact copy of Dr. Calico's and he had been there before, even if it was years before. Understanding their mission, and confident in their abilities and Bolt's experience, the Rovers boarded the Sonic Rover and jetted north at supersonic speed.

Bolt remembered the base well, as one of his most harrowing adventures and a two-part special episode. The bad guys had even programmed the alarms with the exact same key code, posted guards in the same locations, left the same holes in their laser grids. So, aside from some whining from Shag and Blitz, everything went according to plan and was resolved in fifteen minutes, the base destroyed by a massive explosion and Parvo escaping in a helicopter, coughing and yowling all the way. The Rovers returned to base, chatty as always, but Bolt was quiet. Introspective. The superhero life had always been deadly serious to him, a matter of life or death, but everyone else was treating it like a game, complete with trash talk and witty banter. Bolt didn't understand how they could be so lighthearted when they had just escaped certain death almost a dozen times. He joined in on the celebrations, hoping no one would notice his doubts. And his ruse worked on the entire team, he thought.

But Hunter, being super observant and super friendly, noticed a lot about Bolt. How his eyes weren't smiling with the rest of his face. How he jumped slightly whenever he was asked a question or hugged joyfully by one of the others. And that made him a little sad, though he was better than Bolt at hiding it. His hero, his idol, had been great today, but he couldn't seem to enjoy his victory, or the comradery of the Rovers. He decided, as leader, that he would have to talk with Bolt one on one, see if he could make Bolt feel like one of the team and cheer him up a little.

When they landed, after getting biscuits from the Master and being praised as good dogs, the Rovers went one by one to their Transdogmafiers to go back to their different countries. Hunter offered to escort Bolt back home, but not before taking him back to the locker rooms to debrief him. Bolt expected something like this, as the newest member, but as they stood at Hunter's locker, with Hunter fiddling with the padlock, he addressed Bolt in a hushed voice.

"You look bummed, Bolt. Is everything OK?"

"No... I just... I don't think I belong here."

"Neither did any of us when we first got picked. But we grew into it. You will too."

"But everyone expects me to be this great secret agent. They don't understand..."

"Understand what?"

"Can I tell you a secret?"

"Ooh, we're trading secrets. Fun! You go first."

"Oh... OK... nothing on the show was real. I thought it was when I did it, but it was all just special effects."

Hunter's ears drooped, and his lips pouted, looking disappointed at the news. His head was hanging low.

"Yet another unexpected twist. Bummer."

"I'm sorry if you expected more, but I had to... are you alright?"

Hunter was vibrating and making strange noises as he struggled to keep his mouth closed. He looked like he was in pain. Then, unable to hold back any longer, he flipped his muzzle up, grinned widely, and started to bellow with laughter, tears streaming down his cheeks. He was howling for a good minute or two, a reaction toward which Bolt felt both relieved and angry.

"Whoo doggie... sorry to laugh, but we already knew that. We're not stupid. Normal dogs don't have superpowers in real life."

"You're a six-foot dog man with super speed."

"Point taken. But you weren't chosen for having powers already. If we thought you had them, we wouldn't have bothered changing you like the rest of us, anyway."

"Then, if you don't mind me asking, why was I chosen?"

"Three reasons. One, you already have experience with supervillains, fake or not, and that's rare for dogs. Two, you showed a lot of bravery and a lot of heart in that warehouse fire you were in."

"How did you know..."

"It was in Variety. I like to read the papers before I shred them. And three... Master listened to my advice. I asked him to get you. Ah, got it!"

The locker finally unlocked, Hunter swung the door open and held out an arm to present it to Bolt. Peering in, Bolt saw posters and photos from the show, newspaper clippings about him from the LA Times, and even a couple of childish drawings of what looked like Hunter and Bolt, both as dogs and as dogmen. Some of Bolt's pictures hat hearts drawn on the outlines, the way Penny had with magazine covers of that pop star she liked, Justin something. Did Hunter like him that way?

"Watching your show gave me courage. It taught me that there's nothing in the world you can't handle with help from your friends and family. And it also taught me something else. Something about myself. I... I like other males. You were my first crush. There, I said it."

Bolt was stunned, not to mention flattered. This wasn't the first time a fan had confessed feelings for him, but as he looked at the grinning, wide-eyed retriever, he found that it was the first time he felt something similar in return. This Adonis of a dog had sought him out for his pack, and he wasn't about to refuse such a delicious treat. He blushed and turned away in embarrassment as he answered.

"Oh... hehe... glad I could help. I think you're pretty swell yourself. You're just so bubbly and fun to be around."

It was Hunter's turn to blush now, though his golden fur didn't show it as well.

"So... what do you want to do now?"

"Oh! Well, I'm supposed to bring you home to wait for our next mission. But there's a full moon out tonight, and I know a killer beach in L.A. Dogs only. So... do you want to go for a walk on the beach?"

Bolt smiled lightly at the suggestion.

"You bet. Let's do it."

It didn't take very long for the two to reuse the Transdogmafier to become ordinary dogs, or at least as ordinary as a dog can be after saving the world on a weekly basis. From there, it was a quick tube ride to the beach. They arrived just as the sun was setting, almost floating in the water like a tennis ball with a warm, fiery glow. As the foamy sea lapped at their feet, the scents of salt, seaweed, and sand washed over them. Hunter nipped at Bolt's ankles and started a game of chase, the two zooming along the shore and seeing how fast they could go. The two had so much stamina and enjoyed themselves so much that it was dark before they stopped, panting, to catch their breath.

After a quiet moment, Hunter approached Bolt from behind and sniffed his rear end. Bolt's tail wagged slowly, staying out of his way. He was ready. This wasn't his first time, though he did wonder why he always ended up on the bottom. The thought was fleeting, however, as he felt a warm, rough tongue licking at his pucker, then going deeper inside. In addition to being super trusting and super friendly, Hunter was apparently a super rimmer. The feeling was refreshing and enjoyable, and Bolt wanted more as he lifted his tail higher and pushed into Hunter's working muzzle, now snorting with enthusiasm as he explored Bolt's body thoroughly.

When Hunter couldn't stand waiting another second, he climbed on top of Bolt with his forepaws, gripping and pulling himself forward to take his mate. His sensitive tip, now poking from its sheath, found its target and pushed in, enjoying that first thrust as Bolt felt him hitting his mark and was overwhelmed with pleasure. The two were humping fast and ferociously, Bolt's cock now poking out of its sheath as he enjoyed the ride. Hunter began to swell up inside of his lover, whimpering as they tied together. Bolt whimpered too, quietly at first, then more enthusiastically, until he gave out what felt like the most powerful superbark of his life and fell forward, tired but satisfied. Hunter fell forward with him, his knot throbbing in time with Bolt's heartbeat, and licked Bolt's head as thanks for making a dream come true. Closer to each other than they could ever be to anyone else, they fell asleep there, under the full moon, and dreamed of the adventures they would take together.
