Chapter 2

About twenty minutes had passed before M'Taile finally regained conciseness. She rose off the floor, slowly rubbing her head. "What the Goddess?!' She quickly surveyed the turbo lift , for any clues as to what had happened. "Computer, resume lift" *Bzzt Bzzt* "Damn!" She started to pace the lift back and forth, looking for a way out. Her Tail lashed furiously from side to side as she examined the lifts door.

"Can't get out this way..." She looked up at the ceiling and saw the emergency hatch. She smiled and purred contentedly to herself. "Purrrfect." She placed her paws firmly on the lift door and pushed with all her might. Once she had pushed the hatch open, she grabbed the side of the opening and hoisted herself up. After she climbed on top of the lift she stared climbing the rungs on the side of the shaft. She thought she better alert the Captain to the turbolift's current status. "Great now only seven more decks to the bridge.."

Captains log Stardate 49248.1

Repairs on the ship are coming along slowly and tediously. Relays on decks seven through ten have ruptured making those decks uninhabitable. Main power is offline and all systems are running on backup power. The replicators are all but offline and I've gotten a total of four hours sleep in the past week. I've lost communication and transporters are completely shot. What this ship needs now is a miracle. END LOG

Captain T'Lar Sorrat walked over to his replicator, one of the last working ones, he thought to himself. "Computer, Raktijino , hot. " He watched the cup materialize in the slot. But instead of his hot Klingon coffee, some bizarre plant from Rigel 7, sprouted from the cup. "I guess my quarters could use some color." T'Lar set the cupped plant down on an end table. Captain T'Lar Sorrat was probably one of the more unusual Caitians you could meet.

He stood about 6'4 , with a long golden mane of hair , and fur to match. His blue-yellow eyes could melt a person's heart, or instill a cold feeling of dread. His handsome features had been known to distract many an enemy during a fight. But T'Lar was the humblest Caitian this side of the quadrant. The captain went out of his way to help others, with no regards for his own safety, and often jumped to take rescue missions other Captains would find to tedious or a waste of their valuable time.

T'Lar walked out of his room and on to the bridge. He eyed the young new lieutenant Stevens, and watched the human tap away at his consol. "Lieutenant Stevens." Yes sir?" Stevens momentarily tore his gaze from the consol. "Would you be so kind as to add my replicator to repair list " " Yes sir." T'Lar turned away from the busy lieutenant and walked over to his Security chief. "Aussie, what's the status on the creatures we picked up on Valios 3 ?"

Aussie looked up , and cracked a smile. "We've all but eliminated them sir" "Good, last thing we need is those things attacking our crew." "One of the creatures attacked Ensign Ryan outside of airponics bay. It took five phaser shots to take it down." "I want you to increase your security patrols and eliminate the remaining creatures. " Aye aye Cap'n" Aussie said mockingly. The Captain gave her a smile and playfully shoved her.

Before Aussie got a chance to return the favor, a loud rapping noise came from within the turboshaft. "What the hell?" T'Lar slowly walked over to the door of the turbolift. As The Captain retrieved the manual door release, Aussie trained her phaser at the lift. T'Lar used all of his strength to pry the door open. To his surprise, a bedraggled tired M'Taile climbed out of the shaft. Aussie lowered her phaser and helped M'Taile out of the shaft.

"Doctor what a pleasant surprise.'" Aussie holstered her phaser and peered down the turboshaft. "What the hell happened M'Taile?" The doctor straightened her clothing before speaking. "I was on my way back to my quarters when the turbolift system decided to go off-line." T'Lar looked over his shoulder "Stevens ......." "Put the turbolifts on the list, aye sir."

T'Lar was taken aback for a moment. "If you'll excuse me. 'M'Taile walked over to the Jefferies tube.' I'll be in my quarters." She climbed into the tube and closed the hatched behind her. " Sir communications is back online." "Thank you Lt. " He tapped his communications badge lightly. "Ensign Gompez." The transporter chief's voice came over the comm.. "What can I do for you sir?" "Are transporters operational yet?" "No sir, I'll need about two more hours." "Have them done in one." "Yes sir."

The young Caitian said in a half grumble. Lieutenant Sharon Lee was sitting at tactical when the perimeter alarm went off. Sharon Lee was a young female human with long black hair. Lee's life had been full of hardship and death. When she was a little girl , her mother was killed in the Cardassian wars. After their deaths , she went to live with her Father and sister on earth. But during the battle of Wolf 359, her sister was killed.

Ever since then, she had been wandering aimlessly from one place to the next. When she was assigned to the Garrack she was a bit hesitant at first. The idea of living on a ship where humans were a minority was very uncomfortable to her. But as the years passed she became more at home , and started to develop relationships with the crew. The Captain even came to consider her as a friend. T'Lar had once said that she looked like an ancient earth singer named Amy Lee. Frankly, she couldn't the resemblance.

"Captain, I'm picking up an unusual amount of EM emissions off the port bow!" T'Lar hurried into his chair and leaned forwards. He turned his chair towards Lee. "Lee, scan the area of the port bow, I want to make sure this is not a cloaked ship. " As Lee continued to scan the port bow, a ship de-cloaked. "Shields up! Charge phasers!"
