#1 of Drabbles

I think I have a problem with following through on my many fleeting ideas. So I've decided to try my hand at drabbles, in the hopes that one or a few could lead to something more.

This first one is actually a double drabble about a wolf guardsman investigating a recently abandoned slave warehouse and finding a young survivor left behind by his wolf slavers.

I know the title's a bit cliche, but there's elegance in simplicity, right?

The vendors had managed to clear out just in time. This was evidenced by how many humans they left behind in their rush, mostly young ones; the older ones could always make more.

So far, Olus and his team had stepped over five, and the building was almost fully swept. He opened the door to what was likely the main holding cell and recoiled at the sight.

It seemed that the vendors had to let go of more stock than he expected.

He counted at least ten human bodies, slumped against the wall and piled on top of each other. Every one of their throats was cut, painting the room red and letting off an overwhelming smell.

There was a rustling sound just a few feet from the door. Olus swung his crossbow at the source of the noise.

He had just enough time to register a young human boy, maybe three or four years old, hiding beneath the thin corpses of a male and female, early twenties.

Olus placed his bow against the wall and approached slowly.

"Are you okay little one? They didn't hurt you did they?"

He heard only a pitiful whimpering and sobbing as the answer.
