#2 of One-shots

Also something that came from the Furry Amino app. A geokinetic student that has trouble with their gift.

The wind felt amazing, flowing across my fur like my mother's touch. The sounds were relaxing, a complete other world away from my home, where the screams, shouts and other noises only seemed to stress me out. Where the relaxing sounds come from, I do not know.

But one thing kept nagging me.

The vibrations of the Earth beneath me.

There have been many times that I've wished that they would stop, only for me to remember that they would only stop when the Earth's no longer here.

I will always feel the vibrations of the Earth, as a geokinetic. Same with hydrokinetics feeling the ebb and flow of the sea, aerokinetics feeling the single way flow of the winds, and pyrokinetics feeling the erratic movements of fire. We all have our gifts, but we have to accept the pros and weather the cons that come with them in our strides.

I breathed in, slowly, counting to three, and released it in the same time frame and speed as before. I tried to block out the vibrations from the Earth beneath my seated form. It worked somewhat. I could feel less and less vibrations the more I meditated.

But that wasn't all, I realized.

The vibrations weren't just that. It was like a beat, coming from the centre of the Earth. I finally realized what the vibrations were. They were just the results of the beat, and I was too senseless to know exactly what they were, like a drop of water landing in a pond.

Thump..... Thump........ Thump....

I calmed my beating heart, as it would drown out the beat I've worked so hard to finally know. Keeping my eyes closed, I slowly stood up from my meditation, the muscles in my legs tense and sore. I kept my slow breathing, keeping my heart rate down so I could feel the beating of the Earth's heart and not my own.

I opened my eyes, spotting a small stone between my feet. Closing my eyes once again, breathing once again, I got into a solid stance, as solid as the Earth itself. Feeling the beat beneath my feet, I focused on finding the rhythm of the beat beyond the vibrations.

After a minute, I found it. Slowly moving my arms, my paws were slightly clenched.

Thump...

I sharply sent my paw up, concentrating on making the stone rise. Since I had my eyes closed, I didn't know if the stone was rising or staying on the ground.

Thump...

I sharply raised the other paw, sending the other towards the centre of my chest. I still didn't know if it was rising or not.

Thump....

I repeated the same actions, all in time to the beat. When I felt that I was getting in time with the beat, I opened my eyes.

The stone was still on the ground.

I lowered my paws in defeat. The rapid vibrations came back, getting on my nerves once again.

But I have to try.

I closed my eyes once again, breathing...... focusing.....

The many vibrations ceased, the beat finally coming back to me.

Thump.... Thump.... Thump...

I opened my eyes, staring at the stone between my feet. I repeated the same movements as before with practiced ease. The stone shuffled on the ground. Emboldened by the movement, I kept at it, breathing slowly and focusing on the beat.

After a few minutes of listening and going through the movements, I finally achieved success. The stone lifted up off of the ground, and only went higher with each movement I did. When it came up to my eye level, I held it there, no longer moving my paws.

I wanted to try something, something that my mentor said that I will only do when I'm ready.

Thump.... Thump.... Thump...

I sent an open paw strike towards the stone, also in time with the beat, sending the stone flying across the open plain. I only stayed there, breathing. The beat slowly faded away, the cacophony of vibrations taking its place.

I heard clapping behind me, so I turned, seeing my mentor standing there.

Did I do all of this in front of them without me even knowing?

"Well done, my pupil," my mentor said.

I bowed slightly at the waist, my tail swishing in small movements in nervousness. My mentor motioned their paw towards the small town in the distance, which both of us walked towards.

That's when I realised that the beat was how other geokinetics were able to do what they could do, which my mentor told me that I would only get stronger in time, able to lift boulders with only three movements rather than the many that I used to lift a small stone.

I would only need to train, for that is the only way to really improve.
