Greed for power will always destroy those who fall to its influence. They seek more of that power they have tasted, But for seeking that power they care not for others. They seek that power to stifle the hunger they have created. But those that fight that hunger, That fight Greed rise to be far more powerful than any that existed before.

The Power Within

A young student walked silently through the halls of the Elder consul. His eyes locked onto the large doors before him, His fur covered tail sways back and forth as he approaches the one chamber few entered while at his age. His metallic fur reflecting the light around him, Leaving a light blue tint among the walls.

The click of claws on the stone floor broke the silence, As a pair of dragons entered the corridor behind the young man. The young man looked back, His silver eyes looking to the eyes of his mother. The platinum fur covered dragon remained silent as his mother stopped by his side, She had been called forth alongside her son.

After a moment they continued through the hall towards the consul chamber. None of them spoke a word, For they knew none of the others knew the answer for why the Consul had summoned them. They knew it dealt with Dra-Kun, But for what reason none could answer.

He had never broken the laws, Never once acted in a way as to disgrace himself or his family. Though some thought him being alive was a disgrace enough. He was a furred dragon in a village of scaled dragons. Never once had there been one like him, much about him went against the vary thought of normal.

His fur was different yes, But he had other traits that differed from the others. He was shorter than any other, Not growing over two meters tall. Others his age where well over three meters. His silver eyes held within them a strange look as well. Around his silver iris was a color as black as the darkest cavern.

Much of his look was that of the Wolfen Tribes, But there where also enhanced Dragonic features. Like many of the dragons around him he had three horns. One single horn rose from the top of his head several inches, Curving back along his skull, Ending out the back in a point. Ether side of his central horn was a pair that rose up at an angle, Similar in position to the other Dragonics But slightly lower leaving room for his Wolfen ears. The horns ending only a short ways above his head, But not as high and along the back side of his ears. His jaw line is sharp, A small frill hidden under his long cheek fur, Ending at the center line under his ears.

His body was strong, His mind was stronger than any around him. He was built like that of a powerful fighter, Yet was physical smaller, With the same level of strength that came with the body build. His mind was sharper, Almost seeming to have been tuned with magic. Though such magic did not exist. To attempt changing ones mind would destroy both the recipient as well as the caster. Having such a sharp mind enhanced other aspects of him as well. His senses had been extremely sharp, Hearing whispers from across a noisy room. His agility was beyond that of his piers, Even when they where the same size. Most of all his endurance was unmatched.

His wings where as close to a normal dragon as any part of him, Though completely covered in fur. The membrane itself was covered in an almost undetectable layer of fur, So thin none could see it was there. His fur itself too was different, Somehow able to stop anything that would cut his many tiny scales that covered his body. Nothing short of an Elder dragon could pierce his layer of protective fur and scales.

They reached the doors to the consul chamber. There they stood waiting for the guards to open the door, As with the clans customs. The door slowly opened as the inner guards released the locks. Looking to each other with a slight nod before taking the first steps into the 'Hall of Elders'. None would say a word until the consul spoke, Respect was above all the greatest rule to follow. More than one has met their demise in these halls for disrespect.

A large circular chamber around a central fire pit. Five large elder dragons sat along the far side of the pit. Seated on a soft cushion where the chosen elders of the five clans. Each dragon garbed in their clans colors. Tameric of the forest, Talos of the seas, Cormun out of the skies, Dorsonis of the fire mountains, And Cal-durst of the central plains.

A deep voice spoke up as the trio now standing at the edge of the fire pit seating row, "Dra-Kun Lupus Animarum" He started as the young dragon stepped forward. "You and your mother have come before me and my fellow elders" The young dragon knowing the customs of the clan spoke next. The Ivory elder sat in the center, The eldest of those still living.

"Yes my lord, We have arrived as you have requested" He said while bowing his head, Shortly followed by his mother. His mother remained silent, Glad this day has come.

With the main formalities clear the red elder spoke next "Please take a seat, You have not been called forth for anything you have done... But merely being what you are has brought about this meeting" His voice deep and strong. He leaned forward, His face coming into the light, A deep scar across his snout "You are different that the rest of our species... You have elements of another race in your veins... Do you know what race Dra-Kun?" The red alder asked.

At first when the elder spoke he felt as though he was on trial for being different. He fought the fear and answered "The elements of the Wolfen Tribes" He spoke, Fear flowing through him. He did not know the true elements of his birth. This was known to the Consul, His father by blood was Wolfen, While his mother was dragon.

The Azure elder spoke next "We have known about your differences since your hatching... And we have watched you grow. We also know your keen abilities with magic... especially your affinity to more than one element of Mana." Her voice soft yet powerful, The only female of the current consul. Dra-kun lightly shook his head up and down a bit, Signifying he understood her before she continued. "Your progress in the elemental control has not gone unnoticed by our allies... They also know of the Wolfen Dragon, As they have begone to refer to you as." Her face remained hidden as she spoke, though her eyes could be seen.

His mind wondered around a bit to the words she spoke. Wolfen Dragon, Something he had not known, But it made sense. He wanted to ask her something but before he could speak another voice rose up. Lighter than the elders, But it held much wisdom on its own "Yes, The young dragon with the traits of a wolf... And an affinity for the use of Mana" The voice rose up from behind the family. "A true Mana user from both Father Fenrir and Bahamut" the male said as he walked around the side, To the side of the fire pit before taking a seat.

The Wolfen elder was but a few inches taller than Dra-Kun, Pure grey except for silver eyes, With the black outer rim the same as Dra-Kun. This was the first Wolfen he had ever spoken to, Let alone saw. "This is Reese of the Wolfen elders" The Emerald dragon said with a hand raised towards the Wolfen.

Dra-Kun looked at the elder Wolfen, "It is an honor to meet you Elder" He said with a bow of the head. even his father did not know of the Elder Wolfen in the village, And he was the captan of the guard. His gaze returned to the elder dragons as another one spoke.

A Black tail twitched in the light "The Wolfen tribes have long been at war, Same as we have with the so called Immortals and their Human race. Though our war has been raging with them since long before we came to this planet, As you well know from your personal studies in the libraries" His voice was dark, Much the same as his scales. It was said Cal-durst of the plains was hatched in the deepest of the swamps, Being the only elder who could use only the dark Mana, The Shadow.

Dra-Kun sat still, Yes he had been searching through the archives of the ancient libraries. Nothing was wrong with that, As he had a few friends, but they did the same, They sought to be future scribes, Writing the next tomes to fill the library. Though at first he was searching for information about another like himself, He soon turned his attention the history of the Dragons, As well as that of the worlds they where living on. He had learned much, But nothing spoke about a Dragon with some traits of a Wolfen.

It took him a moment to say something, "Yes, I have studied the history, Up until the imprisonment of Fenrir, The father of the Wolfen tribes" Though it was not needed, He still felt it was prudent to the meeting. He did not know he had assisted the elders in what they where leading to, Even the elders where a bit surprised he brought up Fenrir without knowing the full reason for the meeting.

The Wolfen elder leaned in and spoke then "Then you know Fenrir is quite powerful, It took much for the Immortals to imprison him... He is sealed in a way none of us can release him..." though at first Dra-Kun was a bit confused why Fenrir was so important to this meeting, It was for what he thought about him.

Then just as the Wolfen elder was about to speak he was stopped as Cormun the Ivory elder spoke. "Dra-Kun... You where born of dragon, And yet you are similar to the Wolfen tribes... This is the vary reason for you coming here..." His voice was strong and powerful. "You are more than you seem, One who is able to wield several elements, Possibly something far stronger than our enemies, There are legends of dragons capable of using a certain kind of Mana source... The Lunar Mana... Those Dragons where said to have a scale color similar to Bahamut..." All this was familiar to Dra-Kun, He had read of the dragons of the old home world.

Though it never once gave a definition to the color, Not even a name. As he thought about this under the vision of the elders. Though the room remained silent as few truly understood what the Ivory elder spoke about, Until Dra-Kun spoke up. "These ancients... The books i have read never spoke about the color of their scales, But it said they where always different than those around them..." As he spoke this it came together in his mind, "With the differences in me am i correct in believing that you think i have a chance of being related to one of the ancients..." His mother looked to him. Though she knew of these ancient dragons, She never once thought of his differences being related to them.

The elder leaned in to the light, allowing his huge face be seen. He was the eldest, and largest of there kind. "Something like that..." To this the Wolfen elder spoke.

Turning to face Dra-Kun "The ancient dragons you speak about where rare if my memory serves me right... And the Immortals feared them most of all, Seeking to destroy them..." His voice smooth, Clear with a hint of there being much more to this.

The Emerald elder spoke again "These ancients where all but whipped out... Lord Bahamut is said to be the last of the ancients... As he is now but a spirit dragon and is unable to fight, Having fallen to the tricks of the Immortal Odin..." His words where known to them all, This Odin was the so called king of the gods. But was nothing more than a destroyer of worlds.

He looked down a bit in thought, Trying to piece things together, As the Consul was planing all along. They never spoke out what they thought, They let those they spoke to put the pieces together. In doing so they proved to be of great minds. Then the Wolfen elder continued "At this time Odin has Father Fenrir bound in a way we can do nothing... We believe only the Lunar Mana can break the bonds that hold our Father." His voice was still smooth, But held more power as he spoke about Fenrir.

Dra-Kun thought about it silently as he looked to the elders. Something in the back of his mind kept trying to free itself, The answer the elders had known, But would let the youth realize it. He then spoke, His voice a bit stronger "Can it be... That i... I am more than just dragon b...by the powers of Father Fenrir and Lord Bahamut..." The thoughts stuck in his mind found release. As he spoke a certain word the Ivory elder smiled.

His mother looked to him, No dragon ever spoke about Fenrir as the Wolfen did. He had pieced together much, But this confused her. She knew who his true father was, Same as the consul and her mate.

They all remained silent as the young dragon looked up into the eyes of elder Cormun, Remembering something from his past, something he read about the time a dragon was in their egg. They would remember nothing, As if it never happened, But her remembered everything. A dream he had, Both of which Fenrir and Bahamut where part of. "I... I was conscious while i grew in my egg... More than a dragon... As i was contacted by both Lord Bahamut and Father Fenrir... They knew what i was going to be... Ancients where not a breed per say... They where a rare type of dragon... One hatched among the others, But with scales that where of pure platinum... Not looked like it... But truly made of the metal..." He stopped for a moment as he continued to remember the vision he had.

During that time the Wolfen elder spoke "Scales harder than stone..." Cormun nodded his head, Just as Dra-Kun spoke again.

His eyes wide as the last part came back to him, The words of both Dragon and Wolfen, "Scales of Stone... Fur of Diamonds... Dragon and Wolfen... By the grace of Bahamut and Fenrir... I am the combined Ancients of both races..." His words came out as if he did not speak them, As if another being had spoken from within him. His mother looked at him, Feeling that her son had become something else.

Both Cormun and Reese stood and walked to the back fire pit. No one had noticed a single stone container that lay within. They stood now on ether side of the fire pit, One to the right and the other to the left of Dra-Kun. "Dra-Kun, Please step up to the fire pit" Cormun said while directing him with his hand to the symbol on the floor in front of Dra-Kun. the young dragon stood, Walking froward to the stand of the symbol. "You are the body of a dragon... The spirit of the Wolfen... We have known of your coming for generations... But knew not when or where..." The dragons voice reverberated through the young dragon, Yet the elder did not speak.

Another voice entered his mind "Fenrir and Bahamut knew to save there people there would have to be a compromise... You see there are greater beings in the universe than even our deities... These beings existence are kept a secret to protect them..." His words confused Dra-Kun, Yet they felt right. "You are an adult... A wielder of the five elements, This i know... But you are more..." As he finished speaking Dra-Kun saw the container in the fires.

He felt an urge to reach in, But could not follow that urge for the fear of the eternal fire of the Pit. He kept his hands to his sides, His eyes looking over the object within. He almost jumped when he heard a new voice "Take the book Dra-Kun" This voice was strange, Coming from behind him, But he did not turn around to see who spoke it. the voice was ancient, Commanding, He felt more power come from that voice than that of the entire consul.

He slowly reached in to the fire, Being watched now by everyone in the the hall. As his hands entered the fire he shook, Expecting it to burn. But instead nothing happened, The fire waved around his fur covered hand. After a few moments his hands touched it. The energy held within was intense, Like nothing he had ever felt before.

His sharp senses confused him, He could have sworn there was someone behind him, The aura he felt came from behind, Until he touched the stone. The energy within, Like the Aura of an ancient and powerful tome, It was powerful beyond belief. It grew stronger as he pulled it from the fire to his chest.

As he held it to his chest he took a step back, He felt he had to, Something urged him to do so, No it was the Aura that did so. He took a breath, Everyone was silent, Looking at the Dra-Kun, Except him. It was cool to the touch, Where it should have been burning his hands.

Placing the stone on the edge of the edges of the fire pit. Subconsciously searching for the latch to open it and see the contents. Lifting the lid after releasing the latch, Releasing the energy that lay within.

After a moment he looked within, Looking down at a tome. Unlike other ancient tomes this one was made of dragon scale. He looked to the words on it, Written in blood that still remained ever fresh.

The runes on the cover where beyond his understanding. He then felt that presents behind him again. This time he turned to face it. He stepped back at what he saw.

Before him was a large form. Scales of the same as his fur, Platinum. "Lord Bahamut" He said as he dropped to his knees. The others in the chamber had already lowered their gazes to the Spirit in front of them. He remained on his knees as he bowed his head. Keeping his eyes low until he was spoken to.

That powerful voice returned "Rise young one... From this time forward you bow to none" He said as he placed a claw on his shoulder, Letting him rise to his feet again. "You are more that any living being could know... All the answers you seek are in that book" Dra-Kun looked at the book, The aura around it felt different, almost as if it now surrounded him.

He looked to the runes again, This time he understood what they said. "Among dimensions of the universe will I forevermore remain behind wandering among" He spoke, Not understanding the words. He opened the cover, Letting the energy within flow out over his body. This energy did not feel strange, It felt familiar.

It took him a moment to pinpoint the last time he felt this energy. "This energy... It belongs to my spirit... It is my energy" He spoke as it fully engulfed him within itself. The last time he felt this energy was the dream he had while in his egg. As it closed in around him he looked down at the book seeing a single phrase "The Tome of the Plainswalker" His words filled him with energy. Something about this old tome brought him peace, a relaxed feeling washing over him.

He looked up to Bahamut, "Why me?" he asked, Knowing a full answer was not to come. The spirit before him reached forward with a clawed hand.

"You where chose as a spirit to be a Plainswalker... A Dimensional being... One who is destined to protect this world, To destroy the invaders of our dimension" He looked at the book, some how he knew there was something about him all his life, and it was not just the way he looked. He looked further on the page as it explained what her was. He started to read it aloud.

"Plainswalkers are above all the oldest beings to live in the universe. They are born as a normal being. A Plainswalker wields the five basic elements of the universe. But are not limited to these five as there are numerous energies that flow through the universe." His words echoed through the cavern as they all listened, Knowing they have witnessed the birth of a true Deity.

Bahamut broke the silence "As a Plainswalker your power comes from the Mana around you... And the spirits that join with you" Dra-Kun looked to the Spirit dragon. "I have no body to protect my people... And you need my strength to save our world... For i am pure spirit..." Dra-Kun looked at the spirit before walking up to him, Knowing what his ancestor wanted.

Reaching his hand forward to touch the snout of the ancient spirit. The spirit of Bahamut closed his eyes "I give you my spirit... My power... Protect our people" Bahamut said as he started to glow, His energy flowing into Dra-Kun. As his energy flowed into Dra-Kun he spoke "I will all ways be with you... My last descendent..." His last words before the last of his energy flowed into Dra-Kun.

Dra-Kuns eyes watered up "You will always be with us all... Grandfather" He stood for a minuet not even lowering his hand. He knew since his dream in the egg who his grandfather was. Before lowering his hand Energy spread out to the sides, Along the line of his knuckles. The energy forming into a solid object. A staff appeared in his clawed hands. Starting as a single piece at the base splitting into 5 pieces that curled around each other until at the top 5 colored crystals burst forth and came together to a single Crystal at its peak.

Holding his new staff given to him by his Grandfather and last Ancient dragon. He turned to face the rest "Bahamut of the Ancients has passed into the Spirit realm..." He looked to his family, Love in his eyes, But also the knowledge of what he must do to save this world, And the dimension...

Reese the elder wolfen stepped forward again. "This we have known since you where born... You were of great power as the ancient bloodlines of two great species had combined. you are not the only Dragonic Wolf, As we have come to call your kind. Your mother is a dragon... But your true father is of the Wolfen tribes..." Stepping up to Dra-Kun placing a hand on his shoulder. "Dra-Kun... I am your father by bloodlines".

To these words Dra-Kun was unsure of what to think. He had known that his dragon father could not have sired him, But he had always known him as his father. He turned to face Reese to speak, But his question was answered before he could ask. "It is true, He is your father by blood..." His mother spoke.

Reese placed another hand on Dra-Kun "All i want is for you to know the truth... I do love your mother and you... A true father is the one who raises their son... And the one who has been your father will always be. He knew of this as well, and chose to raise you as his own for the love he had for your mother... Never forget the love he has given you, And never forget that all of us support you". Dra-Kun turned to his mother as she took him into her arms.

Sometime later Dra-Kun at last steps out of the consul chamber alone, Leaving the consul and his family behind. His journey to find the source of the Lunar Mana has begun. To save his people and truly understand what he is he leaves his old life behind. His staff striking the ground making the only noise in the entire entryway of the Consul chamber.

Plainswalkers are guardians of the universe, Never dieing, Merely being born again and starting anew. This is the will of the greatest being in the universe, That gave its own life for everything we know to be created. His Guardians are his vary Children, The Plainswalker.

"Here is where i will die... But i will return as one of your children... Of Wolfen and Dragon i shall return... And bring about a new era... For that is what i am... Farewell Fenrir... Farewell young Bahamut"

The last words of 'Wolf in the Night' Palinswalker of the Torention dimension.
