#11 of Whispering Twins

Thank you sooo much for the love and support you guys have been leaving in comments, shouts, faves, and watches. It really means a lot to me to have other people interested in my work.

Also, I'm super sorry I've been M.I.A for like a month now. Was in Florida, then at my bfs with poor internet. Now I'm back and will be posting a few extra parts when I upload to try and make it up to you guys.

As always, fill free to leave comments about anything you liked! I love good reviews!

(On a side note, this part is extreme because of a death. My hope is it explains Zays reaction in part 10)

Zay rolled a little, gritting his teeth as his eyes opened. It was storming, not horribly but him and Damion had been 'camping' in the tree house between their homes. They had makeshift shutters to keep the rain out, sitting with a battery powered lamp between them reading scary ghost stories out of a book.

He was about six, Damion seven, being the better reader and storyteller the book was in the wolf boys lap. Zay had his ears up, the rolling thunder adding to the chills of the story.

"And then, he slowly reached for the handle, turning it. The gears clicking slowly. Click, click click," Damions eyes were on the book.

Zay was leaning forward, inthralled in Damions added sound effects.

"AAHHHH," Damion screeched jumping at the fox.

Zay squealed like a girl and yanked his blanket over his head, "Ahh!!! Damion! Not fair!"

The wolf laughed, rolling back with laughter, "Sorry Zay, it was too good to pass up! You should have seen your face!"

Zay huffed, picking up one of the other books and tossing it at him, missing completely as it flew by the wolfs head, "Jerk!"

Damion snickered and reached into a bag of chips to eat a couple, "Next story?"

Thunder cracked and both boys yipped, fur on end.

Zay covered his more sensitive ears with a whimper, "That one was loud..."

"Sounded close too..." Damion added nervously. Then he jumped at Zay again, "Boom!"

Zay topped back on the blanket with another squeal, "Damion!" He rolled and sat up, shaking his head, combing the tiny bit of head fluff he bore, and turned to the wolf with a glare.

His crooked smirk, missing a couple teeth.

The two burst out laughing and giggling.

Another crack made them yip again, and Zay turned toward the balcony, a few leaves soaked to the wood.

"Boys!? I think it's time to come inside," Mary hollered.

Zay pushed open the shutters a little, "Awe man! Do we have to?!"

"Come on, we'll watch a movie in the living room and eat some popcorn and peanut butter sandwiches."

Damion jumped on top of Zay, poking his head out between Zays tall ears, "Coming Mrs. Reynolds!!"

They turned off the lamp and crawled down the tree, Zay taking off first with Damion bounding along just behind him.

They had crossed that same patch of grass many times, snow or shine, even in the dark. During storms just like the one above them, even worse.

Smiling Zay ran toward the known safety of the house, already knowing Zayra was safe inside. Mary was not smiling, but she seemed pleased they were obeying.

There was a rumble and a loud crack followed by a blinding flash of light. The crack at first was soft and like hiss, followed by a crashing boom.

His fur stood on end, tingling all over like he'd rolled on the carpet to shock Zayra with his nose.

Mary screamed, stumbling back as she wailed.

Zay stood in the rain, soaked, confused, standing he tried to understand. 'Did... I do something wrong?' Slowly he turned to look at Damion, figuring he was standing there just as confused. His heart started to race.

Tears mixed with the water, eyes widening as the storm carried on above him.

Damion, the wolf neighbor, his best friend. His partner in crime, and the boy he looked up to. Laying in the grass, on his side, a large mark on his right shoulder that was as dark as his fur, but circled with a large pink mark.

"D... Damion...?"

Henry ran down the steps, grabbing Mary, "Mary, Mary whats wrong? What happened?"

Zay felt a rush of fear freeze his spine, realization slamming into his head with a crack of lightning. He screamed, terror rushing through him as another bolt of lightning streaked across the rolling clouds.

Zay bolted upright, "Damion!"

Zayra threw herself up beside him, grabbing at him, "Zay? Zay hang on."

Zay was grasping at her just as much, tears pouring down his face. He rolled and pinned her to the bed, pressing his face into her chest as he sobbed. "D-damion..." He held her close, crying into her barely covered breasts.

"Shhh, it's okay Zay... It's okay..." Her lips pressed to his head, "I'm here..."

After maybe thirty minutes their phones went off, he'd calmed down but was struggling to lift his tail off the ground as he went about his morning routine. They skipped their morning showers and grabbed poptarts on their way out the door.

Zayra walked beside him, watching him as she walked along the yellow painted curb.

He walked along the edge of the road, having no form of sidewalk between the houses. His mind was distracted, pittering along beside her. His ears rose as he felt a tail shift under his, lifting it up.

"Zay, you're gonna get it dirty..."

He smiled a little and took a breath, "Sorry, I'm just so..."

She leaned over and kissed his cheek, "You'll feel better eventually, you always do."

He looked over at her, her baggy black shirt was tied up in the back, a grey undershirt pulled over the top of her pants. She was wearing skinny jeans, her paws on the concrete. He on the other hand wore his usual baggy jeans and a dark shirt. Looking at her, seeing her so carefree despite the horrors of the night before helped him relax.

'I mean... I puked on her... That's pretty bad... Pissed on her too... God I was a mess last night.' He flattened his ears, eyes on his feet for a moment before he stopped, "Zayra?"

Her ears rose and she turned to him, "Yeah?"

"Uh... I'm uh..." He dropped his ears, "Sorry I puked on you... and erm..."

She giggled, "It's fine Zay."

"Zayra you... S-stripped me down, you shouldn't have to do that, you're my sister." He bit his lip, 'Even if I half liked it... Would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't covered in puke and piss.'

"And? I just considered it payback for all the times you helped me get undressed."

"Like when," He scoffed.

"Remember that time at the park, I was wearing shorts and I had to pee but I couldn't get them unbuttoned? I couldn't find mom or dad?"

"Oh yeah, so you came running over to me, dancing and had me follow you into the bathroom to undo the button and zipper."

"And that time at easter when when were seven, and dad didn't know how to hold up my dress so I could go to the bathroom?"

"Heh, yeah that was pretty funny," He replied gently. "Dad was so clueless."

She continued walking, "It's been forever since we've taken a bus."

"Well I did get my license as soon as I was able," He said softly. "Kept me from being so tied down at home."

Zayra stuck her arms out and balanced gracefully along the edge.

Just ahead, at the stop sign corner they always passed after the pick up, stood a few other people from school.

The twins stood slightly away from the rest of them, Zay putting an arm around his sister and nosing her ear ring playfully.

Her ears twitched and flicked, looking up at him with a playful frown.

Once the bus pulled up Zay flicked his tail, dragging Zayra beside him to the front of the group.

A chocolate lab mutt growled a little.

Zay turned as the doors opened, pushing Zayra up in first, baring his teeth in a sneery growl and followed her in.

A faint uneasy ness fell onto the bus, a couple hushed whispers.

"Oh my gosh, Zays on our bus!"

"I know, I didn't know he lived around here."

The back of the bus had four upperclassmen, maybe seniors, all male. The next two rows had a pair of boys and a pair of girls.

'And this is why I hate public transports... Back of the bus has all the high horsed kids.' He grabbed Zayras arm pushing her farther into the back, and into a seat with an older girl, he took the seat behind with a gazelle girl as he took off his backpack. Setting the straps to the back of the seat in his lap.

The gazelle bit her lip and scooted a little away, texting on her phone.

Even among the scents around him he could smell her excitement his eyes turning ever so slightly to catch her phone.

'Omg, Zay Reynolds is on the bus! He's right beside me! What should I do?'

'Girl don't be an idiot! Talk to him! He hasn't ridden the bus since the last year of middle school! You won't get a chance like this again!'

'God I hope I look alright, I'm so nervous! And he smells as good as he looks.'

'Jenn don't blow it! Talk to him, you've had a crush on him all year, do it!'

Zay tilted his ears as he fought a smile, 'Well at least someone notices the cologne I use...'

The girl texted back, 'What if he doesn't like me because I'm older?'

He glanced around a little, and put an arm on the back of her seat, hand in his lap, using his thumb to text.

'Jen, it's one year! He probably won't even ask!'

'Omg he put his arm behind me, on the seat. I'm gonna faint! I must be the luckiest girl today! God I wish he just leaned over and kissed me already!!'

He leaned toward her and she squeaked, his red eyes level with hers, nose flaring slightly. She wore a soft perfume, a vanilla and almond scent. He rose a brow, smiling softly, "If you insist~"

Her pale tan fur darkened with a blush, big bluish gold eyes widening as she half stampered, probably trying to find an apology or something.

He leaned toward her and pressed his lips to hers gently before he pulled away, "So, Jenn, you're a sophomore?"

She put her hands in her lap, looking down as she blushed and smiled lightly, "Y-yeah..."

His arm shifted, hand touching her far cheek and pulling her soft golden hair back a little, feeling her scoot closer. His arm dropped to her shoulders, holding her close to his side as his nose found her hair, inhaling lightly. The same vanilla almond scent, the softest touch of apple. "Hmm..."

"What," She asked softly, a little nervous.

"Trying to place your shampoo scent... Vanilla and almond?"

She smiled, "Yeah..."

His nose shifted down, licking gently at her neck as she gasped. Under his tongue he could feel her shiver, a hand falling to his lap, "Smells devine."

She giggled nestled to his side, smiling and wiggling her tail, "Are you... Dating anyone right now?"

He smiled, "Considering what I just did, I'd be a loser if I was." He stroked over her hair gently, "But I'm not really looking to tie down right now. And we did just meet. How about you gimme your number and start from there?"

Her eyes lit up eagerly, phone still in hand, "O-okay."

They traded numbers and she nestled close to his side the rest of the bus trip.

Once the bus parked Zay took her hand and helped her to her feet, his hand firm but gentle around hers. He was walking behind Zayra, eyes dropping to see her bedazzled jean pockets wiggle as she walked. 'Now thats an ass...' His eyes locked on the sparkling fake diamond pocket swirles that moved and shifted as she walked.

Her hips swayed slightly as she walked, her tail shifting side to side with every step, her phone half hanging out her right pocket. The crotch of her jeans was tight, likely only the smallest gap between her thighs. Watching the pockets wiggle as she bounded down the steps and stopped, the hips turning to show zipper, "Zay?"

His ears shot up, eyes lifting to his sister's face, a hand still holding Jenns. "Huh? What?"

Her head tilted, eyes shifting to Jenn a little before shifting back, "Um... How are we gonna get home on the bus if you have detention?"

Jenn looked up at him, "You have detention?"

Zay flattened his ears a little, "I got into a bit of a dispute with someone, no big deal." His eyes shifted to Zayra, "You can take the bus sis, I'll wait on mom to get off work."

"But I-"

"Zayra you'll be fine," He said.

"But what if I get on the wrong bus?"

He rolled his eyes, "It's bus 48, just hurry up here and you'll be fine, they'll drop you off at the corner like we were last year, don't worry." He rubbed her tuft with a paw and lead Jenn around the building toward the main entrance.

"I didn't know you had a sister," Jenn stated. "I thought she was a guy."

"Zayra," he asked softly.

"Yeah, I've never seen her before, but I heard you had a sibling at school. She looks just like you."

He smiled a little, glancing over his shoulder, "Yeah she does..."

"So are you twins?"

"Yeah, polar twins," he stated, "A rare pair..." His eyes couldn't see Zayra.

"I've never heard of that before," she said softly, "Must be pretty rare then."

He shrugged, "It's actually more common than yah think, typically they're mistaken for basic fraternals instead of being half identical like a polar set is. Me and Zayra share... A decent amount of the same DNA, just different enough to be two different people."

"She does seem a little more booky than social," Jenn commented lightly.

"She's a bit of a nerd... Socially awkward..."

"Do you two have like... The 'twin connection' like some twins do?"

He shrugged, looking ahead, "Yeah, an unexplained emotional connection. Kinda sucks..."

Jenn squeezed his paw a little, "Why do you say that?"

He lowered his ears, "She's emotional, so when she gets all worked up I can feel it and it can distract me. I've gotten better at ignoring her."

"So can she feel your emotions?"

He shrugged again, "Probably, I don't show as much emotion as she does, it takes a lot to get me worked up, but the few times I have she's... Always done her best to calm me down. Like... she doesn't mirror my emotion, she... I dunno, fixes it."

"Neat," Jenn stated.

Zay tossed his tray of lunch food down and plopped in his seat, huffing and swishing his tail. Jason, a doberman. Kalvin, the cougar. And Mat the grey wolf were already seated.

"Sup dude," Mat said, "Saw you with that hot gazelle chick gettin' off the bus."

Kalvin put a paw over his mouth a little as he swallowed roughly, "Isn't she a junior?"

"Sophomore," Zay stated, poking his food. Mashed potatoes that were dry, salsberry steak that was overdone, and green beans that looked at least half decent. There was also some fruit salad on his tray beside his carton of milk.

"You okay, Zay," Jason asked, putting his fork in the mashed potatoes. "Yah look a little... Down."

He put an elbow on the table, head in his paw pushing up his cheek, "What gave it away?"

The doberman pointed the fork at him, "Uh... That... Whats up?"

"Not me," Zay stated coldly, spooning a bite of mashed potatoes into his mouth. His lips lifted in disgust and his tongue stuck out a little. "Not even hungry..."

Jason got up and shifted to the seat beside him, abandoning his tray, "Come on, talk to me, what's got you down?"

He lowered his ears, taking a ragged breath, "Zayras dating Gerald Faleran..."

"Wasn't he making out with a poodle chick today," Kalvin asked, looking to Mat. "Could have sworn it was Becky."

Zay rubbed his head with a groan, "I don't doubt it, Geralds been seen with Kathy, kissing her even. I know Gerald is cheating on Zayra, he admitted it to me, and it's all..." He pushed his tray away, "Zayra doesn't believe me. She trusts Gerald but doesn't know or maybe just doesn't care."

Jason crossed his arms, leaning back a little as he stared at Zay.

Zay put his hands on the table, "If I confront him, he laughs at me because I can't do anything. I can't convince Zayra she's making a huge mistake. I can't keep every girl away from him, and I know he's at least kissed Kathy, god only knows what else. I can't beat him up because then the school will be after me, and I am not about to go to his house and try it."

"Whats at his house," Jason asked.

"His twenty year old brother and three cousins just as big. They're as big as me, and kinda scary lookin'," Zay admitted.

Jasons teeth grazed his lip a little, "Huh... Zayras sure got herself stuck now..."

"And letting it happen, like my mom advices, is just... not working," he rubbed his head. "Mom knows Geralds cheating on her, but says I should let Zayra make the mistake. It's so hard though."

"Whats Zayra doing now?"

"In a bathroom crying because she saw Gerald holding hands with some dog chick. She sees this, goes and cries about it, and all Gerald has to do is tell Zayra she's special and it's like it never happened."

"It's only been a week right?"

Zay stifled a growl, running his tongue over his teeth, whiskers pricked. "Something like that."

"Give it another week or so and she'll call it quits," Kalvin said. "No girl in their right mind will sit by and let it keep happening."

"This is Zayra, as much as I love her, she's being a complete idiot," Zay flailed his paws shook a little to emphasize his point. "Geralds slowly wrapping her around his damn dirty fingers and all I can do is watch, it's killing me."

Jason lifted a hand and placed it on Zays left arm, "Dude, take a deep breath."

He huffed, frowning a little, whiskers twitching up. His eyes glanced at Jason, rolling before taking a deep breath through his nose and slowly letting it out.

"Better?"

"No..."

"Okay, your sister is going to make mistakes, I know you don't wanna hear it, but I think your mom is right. Eventually she'll dump Gerald and move on to the next guy."

Zay closed his eyes, leaning back to hang his head, arms crossing. 'They wouldn't understand. I love Zayra, seeing her with anyone hurts. Seeing her with Gerald hurts more because he's abusing her... Knowingly abusing her to get at me.'

"We could hang out tonight, help get your mind off it," Mat stated, the other two nodding.

Zay shook his head, pulling his tray back, "Can't. Detention got me grounded... My ass is pretty much on house arrest for the next month. I can't go anywhere except school, family outings, and practice unless I get dad's permission. Not moms, dads..." He snorted as he took another bite of potatoes.

"Ouch..." Kalvin said. "Could play live then at least."

"Nope, mom says he took my TV, game station, DVD player, radio. I ain't got shit," he pouted with a snort.

"Damn..."

"Happened while I was gone... Got into an argument with Zayra over Gerald, then dad was pissy about the detention and the fight. I was scaring Zayra so Ieft.... About six oclock..."

"Oh no... Tell me you got home before it stormed," Mat said softly.

"Course not," Zay shuddered. "I was so worked up from being alone in my car in the dark and storm, I puked on Zayra... When I get home I gotta clean the car... Gonna be a long day, cuz detention, and no car, means no transport home."

Jason sighed, "Your mom gets off at like six right?"

"If she gets off early, Zayra will be home by four, mom gets off at six or seven, dad gets off at like eight or nine..."

His ears rose a little as he noticed students coming into the lunchroom, Zayra was among them, holding hands with Gerald.

Gerald had an arm around her, petting her tear streaked face.

Zay shoveled food down and dumped his tray to return to class.
