Rio dodged the incoming bullets and side stepped out of the way using his super speed. However... Rio was in shock when he noticed that General Andal was not aiming for him, but rather one of Rio's buttons instead. He had pressed one with a bullet and the yellow box near Rio's feet now displayed the number 2. While Rio was taking this in General Andal seized the moment to fire at Rio himself. Andal successfully landed three shots on Rio. One on his side and two on his left arm, in the shoulder area.
"ARGGHH!!!" Rio yelled and fell to the ground in pain.
RIO!!! DAD WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" May asked in fear.
"My job! Unlike you, you traitor!" General Andal replied firmly.
"........................" May remained silent.
"I...argh, I'm not...out yet!" Rio said firmly and stood back up; however, he struggled to do so.
"Hmph. Like I said before, this is the end of the road for you!" General Andal said calmly and smiled.
"D-Damn it! This game has been set up so that no one will come to my rescue. Also, this game will last for only one hour, but since I'm losing blood and fast, I won't be able to hold out that long. Additionally, My handgun can't hold as much ammo as his machine gun can... so I am at a disadvantage here. What do I do now?" Rio thought to himself.

"Impressive. I'll give that much to you Yun! You who can manipulate sound using a tuning fork as a weapon... I guess that means that in order to use your sound based attacks you have to first create some sound and sync your timing with sound manipulation. It must be easier to do when the sounds last longer. So, that's why you used the tuning fork blade. A tuning fork can hold a sound for a while, and the longer it would hold onto it, the better for you, huh? Too bad I figured you out though." Shayde explained calmly while standing in a stance as if to curl some weights. Suddenly, Shayde's Quintessence levels were rising rather quickly.
"What is going on pup!? Why is your power increasing so fast?" Yun asked in shock and took a step back.
Suddenly, enormous amounts of heat waves shimmered around Shayde's presence. His Quintessence levels were increasing and fast. Yun watched in shock and watched as the frost-covered blades of grass slowly watered away and then shimmered a deep forest green. Just then, a gust of wind flew past Yun rather quickly. All the grass blew in the flow of the wind.
"Activate... first gear!" Shayde said calmly.

CHAPTER 32: Shayde Vs. Yun, Exceeding the Limits to Attack!

At this point Shayde's quintessence levels were at a halt. Shayde faced Yun and grinned, as he knew he now held the upper hand. Yun was flabbergasted at how much stronger just got in mere seconds. Everything around Shayde seemed to just melt away, such as the treetops and the frost-covered blades of grass and the random piles of snow all around. Everything was melted in seconds singling the arrival of Shayde's new power.
"What did you just do, you pup!?" Yun said as he raised his upper lip to reveal some of his teeth.
" The eight outer gears! Brace yourself, Yun!" Shayde said calmly while quickly jabbing his hand out and sending a heat wave Yun's way.
What the! So fast!" Yun said before you was hit by the eat wave and sent skidding across the grassy plains.
Yun was now covered in first-degree burns. He staggered up in slight pain and shrugged it off. His vision was a little fuzzy, but he managed. Yun reached for two capsules on his waistline and popped them both open to reveal two short swords. He then got into his fighting stance and remained still.
"What was that attack just now? It is his heat G.O.N., but this time it was much faster than before. What are these "Outer Gears"? Does that mean there is more then one level of these Gears? Damn it! He damaged me up pretty bad with that attack just now. I am in no condition to let this battle draw out. Maybe if I hadn't just come from fighting Cross Wing... hurry up Andal... I won't be able to last much longer..." Yun thought while keeping his eyes on Shayde.
"Why are you blockading me Yun? I won't ask you again!" Shayde asked while in a fighting stance.
"Hmph. Pup... what is it that you fight for?" Yun said with a grin.
"Hm? Are you saying that there is a deeper meaning behind why you are fighting me, Yun?" Shayde implied.
"Yes. Everyone fights for a reason! Although we have a past where we have once met, I can assure you that is not why I am fighting you. After all, how much sense would it make to make the bounty hunter's job not much of a hunt to begin with?" Yun said and put on a serious expression.
"I see. So then why do you fight, Yun?" Shayde asked while lifting one ear.
" For revenge! Andal told me if I could make doubly sure no one could bypass these gates, he would tell me where I could find one of the members of BLACKFANG that killed my sister! That is why I am blockading you, pup." Yun stated.
"So... you intend to get revenge for your sister's death, huh? And it's one of the members of BLACKFANG? Which one killed your sister Yun?" Shayde asked.
"I don't know. I wasn't there to see my sister die. Otherwise I wouldn't have let it happened. So... to solve this problem, I'll just kill them all. If BLACKFANG never existed... then I wouldn't have to LIVE EVERYDAY SUFFERING!!!" Yun said while dashing out at Shayde.
"Fool! While the first gear is active, I can manipulate my heat powers even further!" Shayde said and reached his hands out and swayed them around to toss and swirl around his stronger ambient heat waves.
"You're the fool! The same trick won't work on me again! Also, Two swords are faster then one!" Yun said and dodged the heat waves, then ejected one of his short swords out from the hilt and sent it flying toward Shayde.
The flying blade flew through the air quickly and almost hit Shayde, however Shayde blocked it with his blade, but just then Yun was right in front of him and stabbed him with his second blade and pressed a small button on the hilt of his sword to electrocute Shayde. Shayde's fur puffed up in some spots and he screamed in pain. He then quickly forced Yun away with giant heat wave and sent him flying once more. However, Yun pressed the eject button on his sword which allowed the blade to stay inside of Shayde despite being tossed through the air from Shayde's attack. However, Shayde quickly took note of this and sliced the thin metal cable line and did the same with the ejected blade on the ground that Yun first hurled at him. Now there was no way to electrify him, but Shayde held his side where Yun managed to stab him.
"Huff...huff.... huff.... You idiot! Why do you have to make my job harder? All you had to do is sit here until Andal and Rio were finished! Then I could figure out which BLACKFANG member killed my sister! And finally do what I came here to do! I LOVED HER MORE THEN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!!! YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW I FEEL!!!" Yun yelled while pulling out another capsule and popping it open to reveal his electric guitar.
"Huff...huff...huff... What did you just say? YOU HAVE NO RIGHT SAYING SUCH A THING! I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LOSE SOMEONE!!" Shayde yelled back and swung his hand in rage, sending a massive ambient heat wave toward Yun.
"Hm? What's this? I can feel warmth. It's not my heat. Where is it coming from?" Shayde thought.
"Oh no you don't!!" Yun said and performed a windmill strum on his Classic Fender Electric guitar, thus sending out a rather powerful sound wave.
"It's no use! Now that my first gear is active... My heat is much stronger. Your sound will never be able to compete! Huh?" Shayde said and then watched as Yun's sound wave broke through and pushed Shayde off of his feet and slammed into a nearby tree. His vision even more fuzzy now, he quickly vomited and felt really dizzy. He got on one knee and began to breath heavy.
"I can use sound waves to enhance my own power right before blasting it all at you, pup! My music amplifies my quintessence for a decent amount of time! I'm afraid your gear is nothing, but a pup's plaything! You can't win this fight because you don't know why you're fighting! Maybe if you had a reason, but it looks to me as though you can't do anything, and someone who can't do anything is a waste of space in my book!" Yun stated while grinning evilly.
" Grrrrrrrrrr..........." Shayde growled as those hated words echoed around in his head repeatedly.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - (Flashback: Childhood past) - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Shayde was a young pup and he was still in his first week of school. Shayde still didn't have any friends and was constantly being picked on by all the other anthro kids because unlike them he didn't have a G.O.N. or a clan trait. The rest of the anthro kids had already discovered their hidden abilities and were always rubbing that in his face day in and day out. Shayde quickly became known as the school's biggest useless swordsmen. Shayde would attain this school in order to become better at swordplay. He wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps if only a little. However... Shayde soon found out the hard way that becoming a powerful swordsman was not an easy task and all the unkind classmates just made things worst.
"Come you guys, less talking and more working! Swing those swords like you have never swung them before!" Matt, their teacher for this class, said firmly.
"Hehe... stupid doggy!" Ash the fox said.
"I'm not stupid!" Shayde said back while swinging his sword ahead of him just as the rest of the class did.
" Hah! You can't ever become a swordsman!" Lance the hyena said and then laughed.
" Yes I can!" Shayde said back enraged at this point because they have all been picking on him all day.
"Hahahaha... yeah right! An anthro that can't use their own G.O.N. can't become a swordsmen." Bill the bear said in response.
"I don't need a G.O.N.! I have faith in my own skills!" Shayde barked back.
"Actually, it makes no sense why a waste of space canine like you is even in this academy when you can't use a clan trait or a powerful G.O.N. and posses below average hand-to-hand combat techniques!" Remy the female wolf said as she pushed up her glasses and swung her sword.
" Oh yeah? Well-" Shayde was quickly interrupted as his classmates disliked him and had little respect for him.
"Hey, pup! Do you know what everyone is starting to call you around here!?" Chris the female horse said.
Suddenly everyone huddle around Shadye and began to chant the same words over and over again. Shayde dropped his sword on the ground and covered his ears, but it was no use, he could still hear them loud and clear.
"Scare-d, Scare-d, Scare-d, Scare-d, Scare-d, Scare-d!!" The classmates all said together.
Just then Shayde ran out from the encirclement of anthros and ran away from school while keeping his ears covered the whole time.
"Hey, Shayde get back in line! Hey! Get back here! Shayde!!" Matt the fox and their teacher said.
However, it was no use. Shayde proceeded to run away until he was out of sight. Meanwhile, Shayde's father, Kibroy, was inside the building that was right next to the training field where they were all swinging their swords. He was watching everything that had just happened and closed his eyes.
"Do you see what I mean, Kazeron?" Kibroy asked.
"Hmmm... Indeed. So that is the rumored "Scare-d"?" Kazeron said and crossed his arms while leaning against the wall.
"He kind of reminds you of someone, doesn't he?" Kibroy asked and grinned.
"Hm?" Kazeron said.
"The species, although they are not quite the same, but nevertheless... we are all apart of the canine family one way or another." Kibroy said with a smile.
"Hey now, just a second! Just because I trained you doesn't mean I am going to train your son. Besides, I know it's close, but still, I'm a wolf and he is a dog." Kazeron said.
"That didn't stop you from training me, huh? Come on, can't you do me just this one small favor? It's for my pride and honor... it's for my son, Shayde." Kibroy stated and walked off, allowing Kazeron to think about it.
"........................." Kazeron sighed and closed his eyes.
"Shayde... a canine who can only use below average hand-to-hand techniques, eh?" Kazeron thought to himself.
However... Shayde practiced those below average hand-to-hand combat techniques allot.
======================= (Elsewhere) ============================
"396, 397, 398, 399, 400." Shayde shouted as he trained in the park.
"401, 402, 403... If I can't finish whacking this log with my sword 500 times... then I'll have to do 1,000 squats! 411, 412, 413, 414, 415, 416..." Shayde counted out load seeing as how he was the only one in this area of the park.
"Impressive so far..." Kazeron said while hiding in a nearby bush.
"420, 421, 422, 423, 424..." Shayde proceeded to swing his blade as swiftly as possible.
"I guess I'll come back later..." Kazeron said and walked off.
====================(Later that afternoon)============================
" Man, I still can't believe I messed up on the last sword swing! I was supposed to swing with out stopping 500 times! Now it's 1,000 squats with out stopping! Also, if I can't do them, then I'll just have to do 2,000 push-ups! 795, 796, 797, 798..." Shayde shouted in between breaths.
"Unbelievable... there's no way he can last much longer. I will return again later..." Kazeron said and walked off once more.
==================== (Later that evening) ============================
"Impossible! He's still at it?" Kazeron whispered from the bushes and proceeded to watch in amazement.
"2,000 Push-ups! Why do I keep messing up? No matter, I will just settle for 2,000 push-ups and if I can't do them, I'll just do 3,000 jump ropes! I will show them all that I don't need their classes and tricks! I can do it all on my own!" Shayde shouted.
Shayde frantically practiced hand-to-hand combat techniques, and finally...
"Okay, you three are now promoted to novice swordsmen today! It has been awhile since we all talked like this, but I just wanted to tell you three how honored I am to secretly train you. I want to hear what your goals are!" Kazeron said while tossing his giant mallet into the air and catching it behind him with one hand.
"Me, me, me, me, me, me!"
"Okay, Shade!"
"I want to become a really strong fighter, just like the legendary Dragon, Naraku!" Shade the wolf said and his eyes watered.
"Hehe, What about you, Shadow!" Kazeron asked in delight.
Shayde and Shade both turned their heads to listen to Shadow.
"Hmph. I don't want to answer. Why should I even talk to you? You let a canine join a wolf's training ground!" Shadow said firmly.
"Heh! Me, me!" Shayde ignored Shadow and raised his hand.
" Even if I can't use a clan trait or a G.O.N. I have always dreamed of becoming a master swordsman! I will prove it to the whole world if I have too! That means everything to me!" Shayde said with excitement.
"There's that look in his eyes again..." Kazeron thought.
"Hehe... keep dreaming Shayde!" Shadow said.
"Grrrrr..... why don't you make me!" Shayde quickly dashed at Shadow with his sword and swung, but only to find it blocked and then suddenly, Shadow side stepped and pulled Shayde's tail, when Shayde whelped, Shadow kicked Shayde in the gut and sent him flying to the ground in pain.
"Hey, be nice!" Kazeron said.
"Shayde... when are you going to learn... Shadow is too strong for you! I still don't get why you choose him to be your rival, but I do know that you will never have what it takes to beat him because he is a genius, unlike you." Shade stated.
"A genius, huh? What is a genius, really? I mean, he pulled my tail, that just makes him a cheater in my book!" Shayde said.
"Hmph. No, that's called using your head." Shadow said.
"Liar! Even if I have no talent, I will surpass a genius with hard work alone! That's everything to me!" Shayde said while getting up off the ground.
" Hmph. You will never be able to defeat me Shayde! I am a wolf while you are just a dog! Also, you don't even have a G.O.N. you might as well give up! Your fate was already decided for you the moment you were born I think." Shadow said.
"Whatever." Shayde said.
"Alright you two! I have to take you all home now so meet me in the car. Kibroy... you owe me big time, buddy." Kazeron said and walked to his car with the other three right behind him.
Kazeron was driving them all home and by the time they got into their neighborhood Shadow and Shayde were at it again.
"Argh...enough already... you two are annoying!" Shade said covering his ears.
"I am not! Your just a cheater!" Shayde said.
"Whatever! However... I know for a fact that you will never be able to get a G.O.N." Shadow said.
"Oh? Do tell! I must have forgotten to stay awake in class!" Shayde barked back.
"You have to be born with it! That is the only way to get one! If you don't have one, then you just don't have one... and you want to know something else... YOU NEVER WILL!" Shadow said.
" AHHHH!!!!! I have had enough of your trash talking!" Sahdye said and began to choke Shadow.
" Oh my Nuker! Kazeron they are fighting again!!" Shade said.
"God damn it! WHEN DID I BECOME A BABYSITTER?" Kazeron yelled and turned around to break up the fight between Shadow and Sahdye and turning away from his stirring wheel.
" Hey, he started it! Argh... can't breathe..." Shadow muttered.
Rio was in his room watching his favorite show. When all of a sudden there was a knock on the door. Rio sighed as he got up because he didn't want to miss not even a minute of his show. When he got to the door he opened it and there stood his friend from school Tia.
"Hey there what are you up to?" She asked him.
"Tia what are you doing here?" Rio asked.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come over and get your butt kicked in Melee, and then after wards eat dinner with us...you know the usual." Tia said.
Rio thought for a moment. Melee was his favorite game. However he would have to miss his favorite show, but there was free food involved. Rio finally came up with an answer.
"Is it alright if I take my little brother along too? I have to watch over him while my parents are gone. " Rio said.
"Sure, come on let's go!" Tia said happily.
Rio left the door wide open and went to his little brother's room. It was a mess but he could make his way to his brother's bed. Meanwhile Amy, Rio's first pet dog he had ever owned ran out the open door past Tia.
"Hey Amy get back here! Get out of the street!" Tia said.
(Meanwhile)
"Hey bro would you like to come with me to Tia's house to play video games?" Rio asked his little brother Ant.
"Umm...Sure...Cough, cough, cough....big bro. I'll get my stuff together." Ant said.
"Thanks Ant you're the best!" Rio said and then ran out to go tell the news to Tia.
Just as Rio reached the front door Tia screamed at the top of her lungs. Rio rushed outside to see why she was screaming. When he got to the street he was afraid. He didn't know what to do. His dog, Amy got ran over. This is the first time something this big had ever happened.
"Quick Tia go call the police!" Rio said in a panicked tone of voice.
"Ok..." Tia said and ran to the nest door neighbor's house to get help.
"I got to move you to where nobody will see that it ever happened. I don't want to get in trouble." Rio said as he pulled the dead body of his dog to his back yard.
" Hm?" What was that thud, just now?" Kazeron asked.
The three of them flustered, annoyed, and enraged, stared at him blankly.
"Jeez... talk about a lively group. Oh well, at least your done fighting now." Kazeron said while proceeding to drive them all home for the day.
However... despite what Shayde's rival, Shadow said, Shayde proceeded to work hard and never give up.
==================== (Later that evening) ============================
" Forget about what that wolf said. I will show everyone that I can become strong too! Now, to pick up where I left off. If I can't jump rope 3,000 times with out stopping then I'll cut another log, but only this time only using one hand and cutting it 4,000 times in a row! 1,116 1,117 1,118 1,119..." Shayde shouted to himself in the park again, but just then he messed up his jump rope hop and tripped himself causing him to land face first into the dirt. Shayde struggled to get back up, but it was no use, due to all the training he had already put himself through he had no stamina left and quickly fell face first into the dirt once more.
"Shayde, are you taking a break already?" Kibroy asked.
"Dad? What is it? What do you want? If it's about choking that wolf kid the other day, I said I was sorry. Also, I am sorry for coming home so late... I just want to be as strong as you! It means everything to me!" Shayde said while starting to cry.
"Shayde, is it true that you are "different" than Shadow? Kazeron has informed me that you seem to think so. You cannot use any clan traits or a G.O.N. and your hand-to-hand combat skills need work, but your swords play has improved. One thing at a time son. Also... Shayde, my son, you are a genius that has the power and potential to exceed anything or anyone!" Kibroy said.
"If you're trying to make me feel better out of pity, please stop." Shayde said while crying.
"No, I'm not saying this out of pity at all son. Because you are... A genius of hard work!" Kibroy said while smiling.
"Is that really true? I have come to this point believing that... if I train two or three times more than Shadow, I can become stronger, which in turn will help me to be more like you, dad!" Shayde explained.
"Oh? I feel honored son." Kibroy said while laughing.
" But... recently I started to think that maybe I can't match up with a real genius... wondering if hard work pays off... I wanted to find out, and I challenged Shadow to a fight many times, but the outcome has always been the same. I am so weak! I am useless! I can't go on much longer suffering like this!!" Shayde cried his heart out and began to twitch a little.
"Hm? Son, stop talking like that..." Kibroy said.
" I-I can't help it... my legs ... they still shake whenever anyone is around! I am such an introvert that no one likes me any more! I think... that no matter how much I try, I can't become any stronger! And you know what... I-I-I... am scared of that... what should I do?" Shayde cried his heart out more.
"There is no point in working hard if you do not believe in yourself!" Kibroy said and picked his son off the ground and walked him to the swing and began pushing Shayde gently while on the swing.
" Shayde, you said that no one likes you because you're an introvert... your wrong. Kazeron has told me many times how he would have regretted not training you. He really does enjoy training you and just being around you... and you know what... so does mom and me too! I know how you feel, son... and to be honest with you... I was a dropout when I was about your age too." Kibroy explained.
"Huh? You dad!?" Shayde asked in shock as he stared off into the stars shinning brightly.
"Yup. Heh, and look where I am today! I am a happy father with a nice family and I even became a sword master! It's all because I worked hard and believed in myself while doing so! Even if you can't use any fancy tracks or powers... you still want to prove that you can still become a sword master, right? I like that determination in you son! That's what your reason for fighting against all your suffering is! Hehe... you're a good boy Shayde! It's a good goal worth working hard for. Please Shayde... become a strong canine... so that I can smile proudly when I watch you!" Kibroy said while smiling.
"Dad!" Shayde jumped off the swing and leaped into his dad's arms to embrace him into a warm hug.
- - - - (Flash forward: Dragon Talon Island: Grassy waves prairie) - - - - -
"Yun!" Shayde stood up and smirked while wiping a tear away.
" What is it? Have you finally given up, pup?" Yun asked while rolling his eyes.
" Earlier you said that I couldn't win because I don't have anything to fight for. I did not know that you needed a reason to fight, but now I understand. I have a dream and I won't let anything or anyone stand in my way of obtaining that dream!" Shayde said firmly and suddenly geysers of lava shot out from the grassy ground.
" What the hell? Now what's happening? Lava?" Yun shouted in fear and took a step back.
"It's over... Yun!" Shayde said calmly and watched as one geyser after another proceeded to explode from the ground and shoot upward.
