RANDOM ANIMALS: Chipmunk & Squirrel

Marcus threw his notebook down and sighed, running a hand through the short fur on his head. The chipmunk glanced around his dingy one room apartment, the hole in the wall he had to rent after the debacle last weekend. Vanessa, his beautiful, tempermental, squirrel fiance, had panicked and run at the last minute. She left him at the church, standing like an idiot in front of all of their friends and family. Well, more her friends and family than his.

The only place he'd found that he could afford on such short notice after he found all of his things, including the expensive setups he used for his job, out on the lawn of their quaint little home, was in a fishing village about an hour out from the city. The building he lived in was run down, and his neighbors questionable. The studio apartment he rented had an outdated bathroom and kitchen, and the living/sleeping area had a futon shoved in the corner. What dominated the room was his computer setup. Marcus was a video game tester for a company that built a variety of games. He loved that it wasn't repetative, that he didn't have to keep playing different skinned shooters all day. The pay was decent, but it was nothing compared to the doctor that Vanessa was apparently seeing now, so soon. That fact left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Marcus slouched in his chair and turned back to his work. He was testing some little RPG-like game, which he normally enjoyed. Choices the character made would alter the storyline, and this was obviously being heavily influenced by his runaway bride. The main character had the option here to confront his cheating wife or to slip poison in her food. With a scowl, he selected the option for poison. He watched the animation of the character sprinkling something into his wife's coffee and bring it to her, then watched her take a sip. His heart fell a little as the wife began to choke, and then another option popped up; watch her choke, or relent and give her the antidote. He watched the screen for a few seconds before hanging his head. Who was he kidding. Marcus moved the computer mouse and selected the button that would give the wife the antidote.
