Chapter 14

Infinity blinked her eyes as the morning sun began to filter into the room. With a few of these and a slight shake of her head the grogginess of morning was cast off from her snout. She lowered her head to the human still within her paws as she felt him squirm.

"Infinity? What's going on?" The human mumbled, pressing himself closer to her chest.

"Hey nothing...You're fine." She nosed the top of his head with her snout. Letting a small puff of air ruffle his hair. She looked to see that his eyes were still very much closed.

"Help!" He suddenly yelled out, causing her ears to twitch. He thrashed inside her tight embrace but she did not let him go. His eyes bolted open as his entire body relaxed.

"Just a dream..." He sighed, looking up to her with a smile as he let his body relax once again. "Good morning."

"Well good morning to you too." She nuzzled the human with her cheek, his ensuing laughter bringing warmth to her heart. She felt him lean into her touch, running a warm and soft hand along her scaled head.

"It...was horrible." She felt him stretch, as he gave out a large yawn. She opened her forelimb to allow the human to escape as he went to wiggle free again. He grumbled something about spells, tossing on his brown robes rather quickly. He stood up, back straight as she looked to him with amusement.

"So today I handle Mr.Nigel the wizard." He smirked, putting a hand to his chest, and swelling it. "And you keep your head with the dragoness." He winked at her and touched her nose when she lowered her snout towards him. "Play nice...I don't want to hear that she got you all bloodied....Than I will have to beat her up."

"OOhh. Yes sir." she laughed, rolling her eyes. She gave a pleased croon when he wrapped his arms around her head, pressing his face against her.

"Have a good day okay?"

"I'll try." she promised.

Axton grabbed his bag and trotted over towards the door waving. "Don't forget to eat!" He laughed, opening the door and vanishing out of sight.

Infinity rose up, stretching her limbs. She let out a yawn, and arching her back like a cat as she flared her wings. With a final shake of her scales, and twist of her tail she followed the human out of the room. She padded her way towards the illusion room that she knew the Emerald Lady was waiting for her. Afterall that was the one place she could have free reign to train her in anything she wished. Infinity swished her tail as she actually looked forward to the upcoming knowledge the pompous dragoness was going to grant her. She could not wait for the spells she might learn. She imagined that she would even teach her more about dragons. There was so much she did not know after all.

She made her way through the door and was met with a morning lecture on dragon kind, how she could improve herself, and then they began learning how to read. The day passed as it was filled with these things plus learning of more magic, the Emerald Lady showed her how to better fight as well. How to use every bit of herself to the fullest that she could.

The four weeks that she would was there passed rather quickly enough, with the Emerald Lady acting as teacher and mentor to Infinity. Thankfully she picked up the reading and writing rather quickly, although she bet in her bones the dragoness was using some sort of charm to get her to commit it to memory so fast. Or she was really good at grasping things. Over the month the Emerald Lady would summon great beasts from the illusion room with a mere thought. Each one was to test Infinity to her greatest potential. She was always left breathing heavily, and covered with slashes from the supposedly not real beasts. She would spend every tiring day with Axton, cuddled around her adopted son as he read to her various spellbooks. His eyes would be heavy, apparently Nigel was training him just as hard. Each night before they drifted off to slumber was accompanied by an "I love you." She would than nuzzle him and say it right back. This continued until the last day the Emerald Lady was supposed to be there. Infinity even caught Axton accidentally saying Mom with his nightly words. She had felt warm that he was thinking of her as such, but she did not push him. He would say it on his on terms, when he was ready.

"What do you think she wants?" Axton asked as Infinity led him down the corridor. She held her head up towards the door to the illusion room. The Emerald Lady had made a strange request. She had insisted that Axton accompany them today in the room, which she had never done the entire month that she had been here. She turned her gaze to the human, who had his head tilted to the side and was giving her big eyes of curiosity.

"Could be anything really." She shrugged, wrapping a wing around him as she a look of nervousness appear on his face. "Don't worry, she has been most nice to me." She grinned to show off her teeth. "Besides...if she is not nice to you..We can always have a nice chat about it."

"Thanks." He smiled, turning his attention to the door.

With a quick utterance of the word "open" in draconic, the door swung open. However instead of the rolling fields, the vast sky, or the mountains like she had gotten use to, the room was dark instead. She took a step forward, holding Axton back cautiously for a moment as she jerked her head side to side. She could make out the dark stone floor, it had a slight mist drifting along it's surface. It coiled and spun like thick tendrils in the air. Infinity watched them with warry eyes.

"Hello there." The Emerald Lady spoke, seemingly to leap right out of the floor to land before them, spreading her wings wide.

Infinity heard Axton gasp and grab her scaly forelimb for comfort. She however held her ground, narrowed her eyes, and gave the dragoness a giant sarcastic grin like usual. Infinity spread out her wings, and pulled Axton closer towards her.

"Hmmph." Emerald Lady snorted, taking a seat onto her haunches, and curling her tail around her. "There is nothing else I wish for you to know...now." She said, the last bit with a soft growl. "You have performed well for one.....such as yourself."

Infinity raised a brow.

"As you know..this is the last day that I will be granting you my attention. So I offer a parting gift." She turned her head towards Axton with a smile. "The spell will not last forever mind you." She flared her wings again, as her eyes suddenly exploded in light. "Polymorph." She shouted in draconic in a loud booming voice, that radiated around them both.

Infinity held Axton close as the mist around them lit up with the same purple that was flowing from her eyes. The mist suddenly rose up to form tendrils, that reached out and grabbed Axton within their embrace.

"Uh..." Axton held out his arm, letting the mist swirl around it. "It doesn't hurt...so that's a plus....AHHH!" Suddenly Infinity heard his back crack as he spasmed from her embrace and fell onto all fours.

She looked to Axton, worry spreading through her as she felt her entire body shiver. Despite her worry she some how managed to keep an aura of smugness, if only to keep up appearances for the Emerald Lady. She quickly cast her a glare, to find the dragoness just watching with a look of amusement on her snout.

"Graahh.." Axton groaned, "It's not entirely painful...just uncomfortable."

Infinity kept switching her view from Emerald Lady to Axton, back and forth as the worry continued to grow. She watched as Axton's skin suddenly began to change color, from its usual color, to one of black. With his next gasp, she could see that his teeth had sharpened into white points. Then as he clenched his eyes and opened them, she saw his icy blue eyes had changed to be more dragon like in nature. She shifted her weight from paw to paw nervously.

From Axton's hands sprout white talons, star speckled membraned wings shoot out from his back, with a loud rip, the robes tear free from his body and fell to the ground. His neck elongated, and a tail grew from his bottom, with spikes lining his spine. Then when everything had settled, Axton was left a black scaled wyrmling gasping for air. "Why does everything feel so weird." Axton flopped to the ground onto his dull grey scaled belly, his wings draped around him.

"There." The Emerald Lady chuckled.

Despite the nervousness she had felt moments ago Infinity was grinning. She padded over to the wyrmling and nosed him with her snout. "It feels weird, because you're a dragon!"

"Enjoy my gift for the rest of the day, I have other matters to attend to."

Infinity turned her attention from her now dragon son, and nodded to the dragoness who was already disappearing into the black void of the room. Her tail swishing back and forth behind her.

"I'm a what now?" Axton said, not lifting his head. He moved his forelimbs to look at his paws, wiggling his talons. "I got claws!" He exclaimed clacking them together, his voice nearly cracking in amusement. He thumped his tail on the ground behind him, causing him to arch his neck to look at it. "I got a tail!" He smiled, eyes shutting. He sat up, opening his eyes and started inspecting the rest of his scaled body. "And...Everything else!"

Infinity just watched him laughing. He really now looks my son.. She smiled at the thought as Axton tried to stand on all four limbs. She saw that he wobbled for a moment, as he stared at them, as if his gaze could keep them from collapsing.

"Four limbs...weird."

"Normal." She scooched closer and nuzzled him with her snout. "Most creatures have four."

"Well....dragons have six if you count the wings." Axton nuzzled her back, his tail thumping the ground happily as if it had a mind of it's own. When they backed away from the warm embrace he tilted his head to the side. "Why did she do this?"

Infinity shrugged. She honestly did not mind that the Emerald Lady had done this. It may have been a tad weird, and they did not ask for it.But it was a gift in it's own way.

"Well what do you think?" Axton puffed out his scaled chest, and held his head trying to look regal.

"I think you look adorable oh son of mine. I think you will have all the girl dragons fawning over you now." She lowered her head until their eyes were even. She smiled as he nuzzled her again with a quick "thank you".

"Love you mom." Axton said softly, causing Infinity's mood to brighten. She however backed away as she saw his eyes go wide for a moment in realization of what he had just said. "I...I just called you mom.." He stammered, his voice full of disbelief.

Infinity just stood there in silence, not knowing how he was going to react.

Axton closed his eyes and took a deep breath through his snout, refolded his wings against his back and looked to her. "I'm okay with it." He nuzzled her again with a pleased sound. "I love you mom."

Infinity almost lept for joy, but she maintained her composure as she nuzzled the wyrmling more. "Do you know what mothers do with their wyrmlings?" She asked, excitement building in her chest.

"What do mother dragons do to their wyrmlings?" Axton chuckled.

"They teach them to fly!" She flared out her wings, as she announced it loudly with a grin.

"Oh yea!" Axton cheered, jumping around her. Little other phrases of joy passing beyond his lips.

"Come on." She laughed as Axton bounded around her. She could not help but smile and feel happy at his infectious joy. She held out her paws, the darkness around her started to fade away. She closed her eyes and focused on the plains like she had trained on. How the breeze had felt good on her cheeks, the sun shining on her scales, and the vast rolling hills.

"Wow!"She heard Axton gasp, causing her to open her own eyes. "It just appeared.."

"So come on." She nudged him playfully, as she trotted across the green vibrant grass. She brought him a short distance before she held out her wings as wide as they could go. "Alright...ready?" She arched her serpentine neck back to look at the little wyrmling, that was now inspecting his own unfolded wing. He practically had his snout pushed against the membranes.

"I think so...I have never done this before."

She let out a quick snort and began to instruct him on what was required to get into the air. How he had to feel the air, the movements that were going to be required, and the right moments to time his flaps. She watched in amusement as he failed his first few times with a wrinkled look on his adorable snout. She had just nuzzled him, and reassured him he was doing better and better each time. This continued until he was flying in the air, wobbling a bit, but he was flying above her head. She grinned as he glided away from her.

"How is it Axton?"

"It's amazing!" the little wyrmling belted out, loud as his lungs could. Axton dipped his wings and performed a turn, heading back towards her. "I did a turn!" he shouted, flying once again over her head. "It..makes me not want to go back!"

Now wouldn't that be something. She imagine flying along the skies of the world with him. Her once human son, flapping his wings and cheering. "Well when I learn the spell one day..You can be a dragon as often as you wish!" She snapped at him playfully as he swooped close to her, sticking his pink tongue out at her.

"Oh you think you're so clever!" She laughed, taking into the air after him. With a few wingbeats she overtook him, and grabbed Axton as he let out a gasp of surprise. She pounded her wings against the air, with each beat pulling them higher and higher into the illusionary sky.

"Whooooooaaah!" he shouted out, with each beating of her wings.

Infinity looked down at him she saw that his smile had not faded from his snout, and it brought her a warmth like she had never thought. We were always meant for this...you and me. She let out a roar of happiness as she continued to bring them ever higher.

"Now..let's see if you don't fall to your death!" She shouted out, finally releasing the wyrmling from her tight grasp."Although I will be here to catch you!" She added reassuringly. She started to plummet as he began to fall, just in case he could not recover.

Axton battered against gravity for a bit, trying to figure out how to reorient himself as he spiraled through the air. He looked over, panic on his snout. However when his eyes met Infinities he calmed down with a breath.

Infinity watched him with pride as he tried to catch himself several times, despite his failures he was undeterred and continued to struggle. The thought to catch him now, and fly away popped into her mind, but with a quick glance down she saw the ground was still far off. Still long enough for him to succeed. Sure enough with his next attempt, and spreading of his wings. The wyrmling caught himself and entered a glide.

"Good!" Infinity exclaimed, shooting down past him. She tilted her wings, and changed direction until she was heading back up towards him. Her tail flailing behind her. "Keep going!" She shouted, as she saw him continue his glide. She smiled as she saw him do a small spin, and let out small roar of happiness. It may not have been as loud as hers, but it was adorable to watch.

With a few more beats of her wings, she was flying right beside her son. She flipped herself onto her back and passed over him with a grin.

"Woah!' He shouted out, smile still on his snout. "Your awesome!"

Infinity tilted membranes, and did a loop around the hatchling. "I know." She laughed, finally returning to be by his side. She guided him closer and closer to the ground as she followed him the entire way. Their flight filled with laugher and joy with every beat of their wings. She finally swooped ahead towards the earth, and landed gracefully. She folded her wings against her back, and arched her head back to look at him. "Okay. Now lets see how you land!"

"Uh...Okay!" He stammered, flying past her head. She laughed as it looked like he had possibly forgotten this part.

Axton attempted to backwing to slow his descent as he neared the earth. He extended his hind legs, and when they touched the ground he tumbled. He rolled head over tail, until he came to a stop. He lifted his snout, and shook away the thin layer of dirt with a great bout of laughter.

Infinity strode over, trying to fight off a snicker. "Good job." She smiled, nuzzling him.

"Well...that could have been better." He rose up, shaking his scales and laughing once again. "How did you do on your first time flying?"

"Worse...I did not have a teacher."

"Well you're a great teacher than!" He exclaimed, before looking up into the vast blue sky. "I wonder if the real sky feels the same way."

"It feels slightly different. You have to compensate for currents for instance."

"You're still a great teacher." Axton stretched out his neck, kneading the earth with his claws. "Even if I did crash." He wrinkled his snout as if he were to about to sneeze.

Infinity just laughed. He was just so adorable that she could not help it.

"Hey! I thought I did good on my first time!"

"You did." She licked him across the face. "You're just funny is all."

"Oh!" he perked up, resetting the wings against his back. "Thanks!" He thumped his tail with a smile. "You...uh...won't tell anyone I crashed right? That's just between you and me."

"Sure." she snickered.

"And I won't tell anyone you snore." He snickered back.

"Like I care if anyone knows I snore." She rolled her eyes, giving him an amused look. She internally laughed as he tilted his head to the side, almost unsure of what to say next to counter her response.

"Well.." Axton tapped a talon against his chin, "How would you like them to know you drool!" He sat down and swept his forelimb across. "The great and majestic Infinity....Who drools!" He swatted her snout when she moved it in for another nuzzle.

'Hey!" She laughed. "It's not my fault I drool!"

"So we agree then?" Axton grinned. "You don't tell anyone I crashed, and I don't tell people that you drool."

Like we have anyone to tell.. She nodded. "I guess if you're going to blackmail me." She tilted her snout to the side with a smile.

"Well...when we get out of here I suppose." Axton spread his wings wide. "We can go anywhere! And we can have adventures! We could be pirates...Or we could also be heroes rescuing damsels."

Infinity laughed, "Daring."

"Or I guess we could save the occasional dragon. They must need help from time to time." Axton lept onto his hind legs, placing a forelimb to his scaled chest. "Oh Infinity please save me." He lowered his voice to make it sound older than it was. "I am a handsome and pretty boy dragon, and I need you to save me!" He fell over backwards with laughter, thumping his tail onto the grass.

"Well...I would be the one saving them." She laughed, nosing the happy wyrmling with her snout.

"So...What is your dream dragon like?" Axton laughed, grabbing her snout and looking her right in the eyes.

She shrugged once again. She had never thought much about that after all. "I guess I will find out when I see them." She laughed.

"Awwwww. Come on." He pushed her snout with one of his paws. "You have to have an idea."

She rolled her eyes and just snorted at him. However Axton just pushed her again, and whispered.

"Come on..." Axton through his head back and cackled. "You have to answer me!"

"Do I?" she asked, nosing him again.

"Yes!"

"I'm sorry your expectations have not been met then." She rose her snout and just glared down at the still amused wyrmling. Who was now wiggling on the ground, giving her big puppy dog eyes. She looked away, trying to not be swayed by their cuteness.

"It's because I am a handful isn't it?"

"No..." She replied slowly with a grin, still not looking down at him. "I just have not thought about it, considering I have only met two other dragons in my entire life."

"Ooooooo..what if it's one of the Emerald Ladies sons?" Axton continued to laugh, looking up to her. "Can you imagine having to deal with her all the time?"

"Uuuugggghhhh." She let out an overly loud groan of pain, covering her eyes with her wings and falling back to the ground with a theatrical display of dread. She waited on the ground, holding in her laughter until she felt Axton's small snout push against her face.

"I think she gave us a gift...I mean I know she said that..but...by the way you describe her..this seems...odd."

"Y'know." Infinity opened her eyes and looking up into the cloud filled sky. "I don't think she was that bad. Kind of fierce in a few places, but she seemed alright."

"Course..." Axton laughed, "I think I got my answer now."

"What answer is that Axton." She laughed, sitting up and looking down to him.

"I look waay better in black scales." He strutted to be beside her, taking a seat. His tail pressing against her. Causing her to giggle."You..would still be this happy if I could not be a dragon right?" He looked up to her his voice lowered. "Like ever again?"

She just nuzzled him again, wrapping a wing around him. "Oh course." she promised. "Afterall I liked you even before you were not as resplendent as me." she teased.

"Wait." Axton smiled, placing a paw softly on her head. "You were resplendent?" he gasped. "When did this happen?"

She just laughed in response, smacking him playfully on the shoulder with her paw.

"Infinity?" Axton asked.

"Yes?"

"I think coming to this tower was the best thing that ever happened to me..Because I got to meet you."

She stilled, wondering after all he had seen how he could say that. However she could feel what he was trying to get at. "I think it was for me too." She sighed, looking back to the sky. "I just wish we did not have to go through all the pain and suffering to get to this moment." She whispered.

"Well...it was worth the demons."

"Come here you." She dragged him closer into a hug, embracing the little wyrmling with her paws. She sighed as he snuggled her scales, and she ran a paw along his spine. Tracing his scales with a gentle stroke.

"Fate works in strange ways."

Infinity continued to give little sighs of content as she pulled Axton closer. She tapped her tail as she and Axton collapsed onto the ground together. She snuggled him like she had wished her mother had done long ago, as they basked in the warm rays of the sun. "That is does Axton." She nodded, than squeezing him tightly once again.

"Infinity...you're going to push all the air from...my lungs!" Axton gasped out, squirming.

"Sorry." She laughed, lessening the strength of her hug. "I just...you're just.." She stumbled through the words. "I love you Axton."

"Love you too mom." He nuzzled her cheek giggling. "We should play some games or something."

"Agreed!" She grabbed him, flopping onto her back, and pulling him against her frame as she began to roll in the grass. She cackled out in joy at the feeling of the grass running along her scales and the same laughter from Axton as he wiggled in her grasp. With each tumble she felt as complete, satisfied with everything that had happened up until now. It had all been worth it to have Axton in her paws, laughing the way he was. She let out a roar of happiness once more as they came to a stop in the grass.

From there they moved onto tag. Axton had been the one to start it, before tripping over himself, rolling, and collapsing onto the grass with another spray of dirt. She humored him the entire time, letting herself go slower than she had gone before. Despite this she was able to catch him each time, as he stumbled along laughing. They did this several times, each time she caught the wyrmling she curled around him with a pleased sigh. Moved her snout close to his and gave him a small loving kiss on the cheek, and told him how adorable he was. He would wiggle away from the kisses like they were poison. Gasping and gently clawing at her tight embrace, even trying to halfheartedly push her snout away with his little gentle paws.

"Noooo!" He cackled in laughter as she pecked his cheek for the last time. "Not dragon kisses! Noooo!" He flapped his wings against the air as she held him firm, planting several more laughter inducing pecks onto the wyrmling.

Infinity was so caught up with the joyous sounds her son was making, and the warmth of her heart she did not hear the sound of Emerald Lady approaching towards her, her tail swishing back and forth as she watched the two with an amused look on her snout.

"I can see that you two are enjoying yourselves." She chuckled deep in her throat.

Infinity stopped to look back at her, She saw Axton jerk his snout towards her as well."

"Reminds me of my younger days with my sons." She smiled, looking to Axton with those motherly eyes.

"Thank you Emerald Lady." The black wyrmling said with sincerity. "From the bottom of my heart...thank you."

"You are most welcome mortal. You should feel honored you got to experience what it was like to be a dragon. Most do not get that privilege in life."

"I will." He bowed his head.

"Thank you as well." Infinity said softly, looking to Axton. "You have given me much..this...was.." She looked back to smile to the towering green dragoness. "Wonderful."

"I must however tell you I am leaving, so your time having this enjoyment is done." The dragoness sighed. "I do detest breaking up this heartfelt moment between mother and son.....However I must depart." She held her head up and looked out towards the blue horizon, where the sun was starting to begin it's descent into the mountains. "I have to meet a red dragon and his...." Emerald Lady wrinkled her snout. "Friends."

Emerald Lady turned around, flicking her tail in an L motion, and speaking the word door in draconic. From the very ground seemed to open a vast rippling cascade of multicolor magic, that exploded in the air around her. Small cracks of the same colors ripped open a hole in the illusion to reveal mountains outside that Infinity recognized from her trip with Nigel. She could see that the sun was already beginning to set outside, peaking above the mountaintops that painted the sky a warm red orange, that eventually gave way to the blackness of night.

"Do tell Nigel farewell for me." Emerald Lady smiled, and gesturing to the door with her neck. "And be observant Infinity. You never know when the answer to your escape will present itself." She strutted out the door, with it closing behind her just as she spread her massive wings wide.

"I will." Infinity muttered, just as the doors shut. She felt Axton suddenly squirm in her grasp. She looked down to her paws to find the human naked within her grasp.

"Well damn." he said, looking over his skin. "I ruined my robes didn't I." He moaned as Infinity released him

She stood onto all fours, shaking her scales and test flapping her wings against the air before refolding them onto her back. She started stretching her limbs one by one when she heard Axton laugh. She turned her neck towards him, her ears twitching as he collapsed onto the ground holding his stomach tightly.

"She could have at least left me some extra clothes!"

"Well. you do have more of those." She giggled, padding over to him, and giving him another affectionate nuzzle.

"Yes. but not here!" He pushed her snout away gently. "They are back in our room!"

"Than why do you not carry extra wherever you go?" She smirked at him, "Than this little problem would never happen."

"Oh yea." Axton put his hands on his waist. "Like I expected to be changed into a dragon. I can fix little holes in my robes..but whole tears into a tattered mess." He threw his hands up with another laugh. "That is beyond me!...Er...do you think can hide me as we make our way back to the room? Or make me invisible? I did not prepare that spell this morning." He added with a mumble.

"You humans are so nervous about your bodies." She giggled, rolling her eyes and covering him with a wing.

"Thanks."

They made it back to their room without incident or prying eyes to take in the naked form of Axton that was strolling around beside her. She thought back to the last day with a smile as she committed his joyous smiles and laughter to memory. With a snort she vowed to learn that spell the dragoness had used. If anyone deserved it, Axton deserved to be a dragon, even if it were for only short bursts everyday. Only the best for my son. She nuzzled him as they passed through the door into their room, causing him to push her away as he bolted for his dresser.

"So...there is a backdoor." Axton muttered, throwing on a simple black shirt with ties on the chest.

"Yes there is." She sat down, tail curling around them both as she still was a tad bemused by his bout of self consciousness.

"Think that's our way out?" He asked, shoving his legs into a pair of black pants with grey stitchings along the side.

"That would certainly be what I think she was implying with that stay observant line." Infinity snorted, remembering the way she twitched her tail as well. Perhaps that was also part of what was required to get that door. Infinity arched her head to look at her tail as she practiced flicking it the way Emerald Lady had done. With a quick few flicks it looked like she had it down just like the dragoness had done. Or close enough anyway. Hopefully the door allows for some leeway in that area.

"I'm kinda scared." Axton said, pushing his feet into clothing called socks.

"Don't worry Axton." She pulled him close against her warm body, caressing his head within her paw. "We can escape together. I know we can."

"So when do we do it?" He asked weakly, looking up to her with eyes of worry.

"Tonight." She said without skipping a beat and nuzzling him. "We do it tonight...and never look back.
